Calphalon Kitchen Electrics 5 in 1 Removable Plate Grill

I've had the Calphalon 5 in 1 for two weeks now and I've used it three times and I was very happy with the setup, cooking and cleanup each time. We've made panini sandwiches, grilled steaks and grilled burgers on it. The panini sandwiches were excellent. The steaks and burgers were much better than pan fried and the clean up was much easier. We cooked a pound and a quarter of 85% burgers so you can imagine that there was quite a bit of runoff but the little catch tray held the grease and didn't spill. We like our burgers medium well done and that took about 8 minutes.

I would recommend the Calphon 5 in 1 to a friend.

I was in the market for a George Foreman grill but did research on different options and came across the Calphalon and Cusineart. I saw that the Cuisineart had a lot more reviews, so I went to my local Bed Bath and Beyond to actually see the products. After looking at both in detail, I opted for the Calphalon as it seems much more solid and sturdy. The cooking plates seem a lot more quality and my past experiences are of Calphalon cookware being more superior.

Both are VERY similar in construction and my opinion is that the components are what differentiates each but it will also make the difference. This what made me go for the Calphalon simply that the cooking plates are a little bit heavier and appear to be made of what the cookware is as well as the grill is more solid. I also attribute the many reviews for the Cuisineart as it is much cheaper and I won't doubt that it would worth that price but the Calphalon offers a better warranty out of the box (I couldn't find the one for Cuisineart).

I am pretty happy with the Calphalon, I tried it once so far and cooked some steaks and grilled Brussels sprouts and they came out great. The steak cooked medium rare in about 3 minutes, the Brussels sprouts I grilled for about 10 minutes. The clean up was very simple, the non stick is excellent. I think if you don't mind to spend the extra to get a more higher end grill like the Calphalon, I would do it. I think in the long wrong I will fair better.

We like this well enough to keep it. Great for a quick steak grilling, grilled cheese, etc. Only complaint so far is back legs are shorter than front so the cooking surfaces are not flat in either the closed or open position. Perhaps it was engineered this way to facilitate draining of fats, etc.

First try at cooking eggs failed as they all immediately slid off the grill, some into the drip pan, most onto the counter top. I suspect the same would happen with any liquid/semi-liquid, IE pancake batter.

I used George Forman grills for years and loved them. The last couple of them have not worked very well. Didn't really get hot enough. This gets hot enough to sear the meat and is easy to clean up. Makes tender boneless, skinless chicken breasts in bout 8 minutes. Love it so far!

Polder Grill Surface Thermometer, Silver

I use this on BBQ grills and other stove top cookware so I can see when the surface temperature is high enough to start searing food. You can get an IR surface temperature gun for a lot more money, but this thing is simple, small, no batteries, and does the job.

It discolored the very first use and is now used rarely. I was disappointed as I hoped this would help me identify hot spots on my Weber.

This seemed to be a good product the first time I used it. It provided a nice guide to my grill surface temperature, although it was a little slow to respond to temperature changes when I moved it around the grill to areas of different heat don't expect it to adjust in seconds, because it won't. It did, however, tell me the general temperature of the different surfaces after it had sat there awhile.

Unfortunately, this thermometer just cannot take the heat of a charcoal grill. Obviously I don't expect it to display temperatures out of its boundaries, but it should at least survive them. According to the thermometer, my grill surface is off the scale the scale goes to 750, and the needle moved past that all the way back almost to its starting position, which could mean anything above 800ºF. But that temperature seems to have cooked the thermometer! The casing now looks more like bronze than stainless steel, and all of the color on the dial has turned black. The surface of the dial has also darkened, and the glass bezel turned a bit cloudy and brown. And it's definitely not a matter of cleaning it; I gave it a very thorough scrub. It's probably still usable I'll try again tonight but it's going to be a lot harder to read the temperature.

Bottom line if your "high" grill temperature is weak (in the 600 to 750 range), this might be a four-star product. If your grill gets hotter than that, it becomes a two-star product after the first use.

Note that I'm not promising it won't cook at 600-750ºF, but it certainly cooks above that.

this fryer is easy to put togeter, easy to use, and makes the best french fries ever. i previously had a fry daddy and this fryer shamnes the fry daddy. everything comes out so clean and crisp. i love it, also you can filter out the oil which i think is way cool. the temp goes up to 370f, which i thought would be a problem because french fries call for somehting like 375f, but it works great. i don't even like going out for french fries anymore because the ones i make at home are way better. i have one of these and so does my sister and we both love them.

A costly product for less than a year's seldom useage and it was not abused. It was easy to clean. What stuck me as odd was the magnetic electrical connection. I sincerely think mine went bad at the electrical point. It never seemed to make a solid contact, therefore wouldn't work.

There is NO dial to turn to filter the oil and there is NO slide out container for the oil to filter itself into.

You CANNOT raise and lower the basket with the lid on as the basket hooks to drain the food only attaches over the top of the oil container and this would allow the oil to drip off the hooks onto the counter top.

Trudeau Multi 12-Piece Stainless-Steel Fondue Set

Got this because it's a small 3 in 1 & it works wonderfully! Not too big that it steals the spotlight & intimidates guests, but not too small that its contents run out quickly. Heats quickly & keeps heat evenly spread. Cleans wonderfully without problems. Stores great.

This is a good product, but the metal pot that keeps the boiling water under the ceramic bowl has already started to rust and I have only used it twice. It isn't that big of a deal since the food never even touches the pot, but it is still a disappointment. If you buy it, just make sure to dry the pot right away after use. Also, be sure to open it up and find out what kind of fuel you need for the flame. I had a fondue party and didn't open the box until the day of. It didn't come with anything to light the flame, so I had to run to the store the day of the party to get it.

This fondue set is awesome! However, it requires special fuel (gel fuel sold in a bottle) that you can also purchase from this site. I bought four of these pots for an annual Fondue party that my husband and I host and by the time we got the pots, it was too late to order the fuel. Thankfully, we went to a party supply store and bought some fuel canisters for catering and used those in place of the fuel pod thing it comes with. It turned out okay, though my cheese fondues burned. Other than that, I'm satisfied!

I didn't want to spend a lot on a fondue set because I wasn't sure how often we'd use it. This set fit the bill perfectly. It does come with a ceramic pan so it is good for chocolate or cheese fondue in addition to the hot oil fondues. It is light, but well balanced.

It takes gel fuel and the fuel pod has a way to adjust the heat. That's handy! It heats evenly and the fuel lasts long enough for a meal, although I don't think it would last long enough for this to be used for much longer than that.

I purchased a full Scanpan cook set, along with several additional pieces, including the 10.5" square grill pan. Luckily, these have a lifetime warranty, as I've sent 3 pieces back due to the non-stick coating failing, and recently this grill pan also started flaking off the non-stick coating on the top of several of the grill ridges. I'll be sending back for a replacement, then packing up for use later as they are nice heavy pans. Scanpan may have changed the coating process recently, as my pans are 4 years old now. With so many pans out for replacement, I purchased an All-Clad set, however, I just say the replacement process went smoothly.

I am now looking for a good grill pan and will probably try a Calaphon square grill pan, as my friend swears by hers which is over a year old, uses it several days a week, and still holding up. I rated it a 3, but would rate other Scanpans a 4.

I've gone through many gas grills over the years, & this is the best way to grill indoors. Been using it to make turkey burgers every weekend for over 2 months, & I really like this pan. Food doesn't stick to it, it's solid, easy to clean, & the price was very reasonable. Definitely would recommend it to others.

UPDATE: after 1 year, the coating started rubbing off. I replaced this with a Lodge cast iron grill pan. Only thing that could flake off now is olive oil. I doubt that'll negatively affect me.

I use it primarily as a "Mongolian hot pot". It heats evenly and fast with light off to indicate the set temperature has reached. It then maintains at the temperature you set. The capacity of this pot is well suited for four to six people. I also did some grill on it. It works as well. At beginning, I was a little concerned about the "Nonstick cooking surface". Since it is very easy to clean, you do not need to apply too much force on the surface. After eight months use, "Nonstick cooking surface" holds well. I do not see any sigh of scratch or wore out.

I am single and like a good T-bone or strip steak once and a while, but firing up the outside barbecue has become a real pain when all I want is one steak.

This is the answer; cooked two strip steaks and one boneless pork chop on it after I seasoned the grill (per instructions) with Pam, and they were great. Both the dog and I enjoyed them.

When I fist test started it, I turned it on high and gave it a few seconds and Wow!

this baby heats up fast and cooks as fast as a gas barbecue.

I cleaned the pan up as I do any non stick appliance (soak, brush and dish rag clean) as any rough pads or metal objects will do the surface in, even setting it in a metal wire dry rack.

Addendum:

I have purchased another pot as backup just in case the one I am using wears out; this is something I do with most small appliances I really like.

A note: because this is a pot grill, you can add water or beer, or whatever to moisten up the meat you are cooking,

something you cannot do to an outside grill. After you have seared and mostly cooked the meat, bring down the heat to just inside the 'WARMING' (about at the 'I')and let it steam for a while on both sides with your liquid added.

I grilled two chicken cutlets in the Super Pot last night and they came out perfect (375 degrees for 7 minutes, flipping once). Clean-up was painless; the pot pops out of the plastic housing for cleaning, although the manual says the whole thing is immersible. The two cutlets pretty much filled the grill, so it might be too small for more than two people. Now that it's too hot to grill outdoors, I'll be using the Super Pot more often.

Update: Burgers (80 percent lean) turned out great on the grill, too. Seasoned with McCormick's Montreal steak seasoning mix. Grilled at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes.

i've had this pan for two years and use it whenever i need to char tomatoes or anaheim chiles or cook a burger. after using it for so long, the top still looks new and still cleans up like a dream. even if i cook on the surface twice without wiping, the clean up is never a hassle. another thing i love is that there is no smoking when using the pan for a good while. sometimes the pans i have used in the past would smoke a bit, but with this one, i have never had that problem even after using it on a lower flame for over 2 hours. the handle stays cool to the touch and i could not ask for a better grill pan. with the addition of the spatula, it is a great convenience for any use whether it be for bacon, pancakes, veggies, fruit, or whatever your grilling need may be. only thing is that the packaging is so tight on the top of the pan that it leaves a weird mark where the cardboard once rested once you remove it. HOWEVER, after cooking on it a couple times and washing it, it is no longer noticeable. great griddle.

I've had this skillet for awhile now and the nonstick surface still looks great. I use it for lots of things, even though it has a shallow lip. I don't put it in the dishwasher. Would definitely buy it again.

I really like this little getup. I think it would be good for people with children. Very easy to use. I'm not a fan of huge hamburgers. Cut 2 or 3 little buns out of one big bun. Quartered a piece of cheese, put ketchup, mustard and a pickle on each. Very easy and yummy.

Used this item at the weekend and it was a great success! So easy to make the mini-burgers up beforehand in the plastic mold. The sliders cooked quite quickly (I guess because of their smaller size) on the grill and it was very easy to turn them over with just a flip. Everyone loved them and it meant everyone could taste the beef patty, turkey patty and chicken patty without having to choose just one. This slider griller works pretty good, but you have to be careful when turning it over as it does not stay attached very well. Also make sure that you spray it with cooking spray before using it. The patty making mold is a little small and somewhat difficult to get the meat out of, but other than that I am pretty satisfied with it and use it pretty often.

I could not wait to make mini burgers with this set. They turned out better than I expected. I only had hot dog buns, so I cut them in thirds and the burgers fit perfectly. George Foreman GR0038W Champ 36-Square-Inch Nonstick Grill

I loved my old Foreman grills, the original models from the 90's. The smallest ones lasted for a few years at least. I had stopped using Foreman grills for several years but recently decided to pick up a new one for its convenience.

This product is garbage. Within a week of use the teflon started to come off while it cooked. Steam stained the sides of the white cover a nauseating cigarette-burn brown in a few days. The tiniest of circle pins keeps the hinge barely secured, that fell off and disappeared. A month and a half after buying it, this Foreman grill is cooking my chicken a shade of teflon grey.

The Foreman grills are super convenient and excellent for those with little time to cook & clean. But maybe the other models have a little more effort put into their construction. Do some research, don't just jump on the least expensive model. This basic grill is worthless compared to how they used to be made.

After using an older model Foreman Grill (GR8) at the office, I recently picked up a GR0038W at my local department store. The price at the store was almost the same as what it is currently listed for on Amazon. So far, I have been pleased with it. I only wish the cooking surfaces were somehow removable to make cleanup easier... I know some of the more expensive models have this option (GRP4, GRP90WGR, GRP99, etc). It does take some effort to clean up, but I don't think it takes any more time than brushing the grate on my gas grill, removing the gas tank, and rolling the grill back into the garage. The cooking surface is approximately 7-3/8" x 6", minus the corner radius in the back. The power cord is approximately 2' long. My grill came with a small plastic tray to catch the juices that run off of the meat, a grooved plastic scraper for scraping the cooking surface, and a black/blue grooved sponge for clean up. I've made hot-dogs & hamburgers in it so far and have found the recommended cook times provided in the manual to be accurate. The box my grill came in indicates that the product was made in China. So far, I've found it a very nice little grill that's a great alternative to firing up my gas grill in the back yard for small grilling jobs. Because I just got the grill, I can't speak to its long-term durability but, if starts to fall apart, I'll be sure to provide an update. So far, I've been happy for the price.

Edit (07/28/2012): I've had this grill for a little over a year and am still pleased with it. Because the top is white, it does yellow from use; however, I have had no problems with the Teflon coating coming off. It still works just as well today as the day I bought it. (Cleanup gets easier with practice.)

I use this everyday. I'm a college student thats always on the go. It cooks full meals for me in 10 mins with a dry rub on something. Sick. You NEED to use aluminum foil on it though. If you don't use the foil, you'll get the stains and its an extreme hassle to clean. Basically lay the foil over it completely, bend it to the form the grille, USE PAM OR BUTTER, AND ALOT OF IT. Done cooking? Throw the foil out... No mess, healthy food, cooked fast. WIN.

I bought this about a month ago since I'm starting a new diet and generally want to enjoy my meats without it sitting in it's fat.

This cooks all sorts of meat nicely, but the cleanup is a bit of a pain. I didn't know that there were some models with removable plates etc. Next time I will get that one because scrubbing the grill is time consuming and I never feel like doing it. lol I agree with the other poster, cleaning a pan is probably easier, but I will continue to cook with my GF Grill because it cooks the meat FAST and it's healthier (I also don't need to babysit my food when on the GFG like I would with a pan etc).

Will keep my eye open for a better one on sale soon.

we used it in the last days 2 times. The size is very convenient for 2 persons. It's a small footprint. I love making raclette a lot, but because I had before only a 8 pans size we didn't used it very often. The cleanup is also very easy.

Did not keep either of these units myself, but rather gave as gifts owing to the price point. Recipients both liked the units particularly the hot stone. Good for small families.

Bought this Apron for my Uncle as a Christmas present a few weeks back. He only grills from time to time but I received a tip from another family member he just purchased a new grill and was hassled by having to travel back and forth from the kitchen to the deck to grab his grilling equipment. When he opened the present I could really tell he thought it was a good idea. His wife has already informed me of the apron's use. Genius idea for grilling and a great gift idea all around!

There is nothing wrong with the hose itself. Just be absolutely sure it is exactly what you want. Because returning it is no easy task. It turned out the hose was not compatible with what I needed it for, so I attempted to return it. Returning the product was painstaking. The company, ANTOnline makes you jump through a dozen different hoops before you can return it and then ultimately rips you off, by charging you a restocking fee. You'll have to contact the company providing your reasoning for the return, wait a few days and they will send you an RMA# which you need to return it, then after they receive the item they determine without previously informing you, how much of a refund you will actually get (its not a full refund, they keep a little for themselves). The original cost of the item for me with taxes and shipping turned out to be around 18 dollars. I then had to pay an additional 7 dollars in shipping fees to return it. My refund was only 10 dollars!!! So I basically pissed about 15 dollars away because of ANTOnline. I will never do business with ANTOnline again!!!

The hose arrived early and was exactly what I ordered but I ordered the wrong item. this hose is not the correct hose to hook up 1lb propane tanks to appliances.

Haier MWM12001SCGSS 1-1/5-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt Grill and Convection Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel

Bought this when my 1100 watt Sharp died after 10 years. Have been intrigued by the concept of convection microwaves. Now understand that this is, essentially, a countertop oven that also happens to microwave.

Dimensions of the product, out of the box, are 12.25 high x 20.25 long x 14.5 deep BUT it just barely fits on our 17 inch deep microwave shelf. Why? Because behind the microwave "case" there are about 2 more inches of metal for the oven AND our outlet is directly behind the microwave, which means the plug takes up depth. On our 17" deep shelf there is about a 1/4" inch between where the feet of the microwave are and the edge of the shelf. Microwave door is just over the shelf. Plan for a real-life depth of 20 or 21 inches because:

Another surprise we received were Haier's recommendations for clearance around the microwave. They advise:

. 3" clearance behind

. 3" inch clearance on one side

. completely open on the other side

. 12" clearance above the microwave so they want you to have a total of about 25" from countertop to bottom of cabinet (or anything else) above the microwave. In our kitchen, actual distance from countertop to cabinet bottom is about 19".

Why do they recommend this much clearance? While the microwave and grill portions of the oven work just fine without getting the unit too hot, if you plan to use the convection portion, watch out. The unit becomes EXTREMELY hot on the top and rear. For this reason, we're not using much of this feature, which kind of defeats the idea of getting a convection microwave. But for the price, looks, and other functions, overall we're pleased.

Some other cons:

. Cooking plates get H*O*T, even when you just use the microwave function. Definitely need potholders to handle when removing from microwave, even after as little as 2-3 minutes.

. Clock on the unit has a nice blue backlight, but this turns itself off and one cannot read the microwave clock without pushing a button to get the light to go back on. Don't plan on using your microwave as your visible clock in the kitchen.

. Must set the cook time using the dial or +30s button. If you want to put something on for, say 20 minutes, there are no number buttons to push. One just spins the dial until the time desired, or push the +30s second button 10 times. It's possible we'll eventually view this as a pro.

Pros:

. Cooks well. I find that the cooking speed is about the same with the 1000 watt Haier as it was with our 1100 watt Sharp maybe just a hair slower.

. Rotates food for even cooking, and changes rotation direction when you open the door to stir and then re-start.

. Defrost function works well for us. Even, without cooking the edges.

. Looks good.

. Like the combination feature can set microwave and grill with one setting.

. Could replace or be used instead of a regular oven.

. Good size for family. Easily fits 9x9 pan.

Given that we have a toaster oven and wall ovens, now that I really understand that a convection microwave is essentially a countertop oven, I might buy a regular microwave next time. But this is a good little oven that also looks great, and was a great price.

I bought this microwave after spending an entire day at retail stores trying to make sure of exactly what I wanted. I knew I wanted a handle and not a "push" to open the door. I wanted a stainless interior and exterior. And I definitely wanted convection. I love all the features I described above and am very pleased with the overall functionality and design of it. The price was better than any I had found in the big retail chains. The only negative for me personally is when the door is left open, the light stays on. I like to air out my microwave after use so it doesn't have a smell on the next use. By the time I clean my kitchen after a meal, however, the light reminds me to close the door anyway. This microwave is exactly what I wanted/needed!

For a combo, micro/convection, oven, the price was very reasonable. The design is modern and, quite attractive, but it is way under-powered(1000W)compared to my previous microwave, which was Sharp Carousel (1500W). Which means, it will take more time to cook or re-heat things, e.g. a cold cup of water takes about 3 minutes to boil compared to 2 minutes in the Sharp. Also, the metal (very light weight) grate that came with for the convection cooking was broken (poor welding job) from the factory.

I just took this unit out of the box and set it up for a shakedown of the features.

First, the unit is light for its size and functionality, but feels well constructed. The door opens and closes easily and with a good feel. The blue backlit LCD display is easy to read when lit (the backlight turns off after 3 minutes of the unit sitting idle) but it would have been nice if the backlight was extended to the labels for the keypad and temperature setting.

The first thing I did was set the convection function to 250°F to burn off any "new unit" smells and then ran it for about 10 minutes. Surprisingly the instructions advise leaving the turntable in place all the time, even for oven functions. The oven hit 250 pretty quickly and did indeed let out some nasty smells.

I then microwaved a few cups of water and it boiled fairly quickly, even though the microwave is only 1000w.

My last test is where the unit failed. I set the convection function to 425°F (the highest setting) and waited. And waited. The oven was not able to get to an internal temperature of over 360°F according to my oven thermometer; the LCD screen indicated a temperature of 350°F. I waited about an hour and then the oven shut itself off and declared the end of cooking.

Given that most baking I would do would be at 350° and I should lower that to 325° for convection, this may not be a problem in daily use, but it is the reason I dinged the unit a star. it is advertised and marked to achieve 425° so it should, that it doesn't is a failure.

I've yet to try the sensor cook function, but did re-heat my lunch in the oven after the high-temperature test. With the oven still hot (>300°) I put in my food and set the microwave at 3 minutes of 30% power. My chicken came out hot and juicy and the potato was warm with the skin not mushy.

I've emailed Haier about the maximum temperature issue and will revise here when they reply.

If you like the idea of a small oven with microwave functionality, this is a nice unit... even if mine doesn't get as hot as it should.

I've email Haier two times and never gotten a response from them regarding the temperature issue. I've twice tried to use the unit for baking and the results were disastrous. almost two hours to bake brownies to doneness is not acceptable.

The combo cook feature that heats the oven to a temperature and uses the microwave at 30% power is a nice way to re-heat leftovers but I would not recommend using this thing as an oven or a grill. Making toast in this unit is near impossible, you just get warm and dried out bread. I strongly suspect they designed this thing for the regions of the world with 220-240 volts where it happily gets to the indicated 400+ degrees and can actually get the heating element to glow red. In the US this thing is a poor oven and an okay microwave. The two features combined are occasionally usefully but in the end for what I use this thing for day-to-day, I should have just gotten a plain microwave and a stand-alone toaster oven.

This is a great convection/microwave. If you used it just for the microwave ability you would have a great deal! The convection works well and cooks things like regular convection oven or add microwave to your cooking and it is faster. Simple to use and understand. Seems to be well constructed and is very fashionable. Bought it to keep from heating large oven in summer time. Hope this helps as I rely on your reviews all the time when contemplating a purchase. I love these. They wipe your grill off and your hands are clean when you are done. I don't know how it can clean your messy grill so easy but they do. Maybe its some kind of magic. I just went camping with a friend and had to clean her grill without these. I will not go camping with out these wipes again. Buy them! You will not regret it!!!

Taylor Classic Line Grill Guide Thermometer, Measures to 700-Degree

I would give this grill thermometer no stars if I could. I didn't purchase

it from Amazon because I found the identical one for several dollars less

at Williams-Sonoma. We have a gas grill and the first time my husband

used it he set it on the grill rack NOT directly over the flames but off

to the side. By the time he was done grilling steaks, the clear dial cover

had darkened so much and the interior dial markings which were red had

faded to a dull gray and it was impossible to read. It's a real piece of crap

and I'm surprised because Taylor thermometers are usually of good quality.

For the price, it wasn't worth sending it back and we tossed it in the

garbage can. I notice that Williams-Sonoma is no longer carrying this

item online as they must have received a lot of complaints on it.

Save your money and skip this hunk o' junk.

There are a LOT of thermometers I could have purchased that are a lot less expensive but I chose to spend over $15 for this one because the seller advertised the thermometer as "magnetic". In their product description, they state, "Magnetic back holds thermometer in place". When I got the thermometer and stuck it to the side of my grill, it promptly fell to the floor. I tested it on my stainless steel refrigerator and a few other places same results. I had it shipped next day because I wanted to use it for an important function and I ended up very disappointed. My smoker doesn't have a pre-drilled hole for a thermometer and I didn't want to drill one myself for fear of not insulating it well so the heat doesn't escape. I was really hoping this thermometer was going to work for me. I haven't used it yet so I hope it will at least gauge the temperature right. I hope this seller will take out the verbiage about it being magnetic because it's misleading and deceptive.
