Polder Grill Surface Thermometer, Silver

Polder Grill Surface Thermometer, SilverI use this on BBQ grills and other stove top cookware so I can see when the surface temperature is high enough to start searing food. You can get an IR surface temperature gun for a lot more money, but this thing is simple, small, no batteries, and does the job.

It discolored the very first use and is now used rarely. I was disappointed as I hoped this would help me identify hot spots on my Weber.

Buy Polder Grill Surface Thermometer, Silver Now

This seemed to be a good product the first time I used it. It provided a nice guide to my grill surface temperature, although it was a little slow to respond to temperature changes when I moved it around the grill to areas of different heat don't expect it to adjust in seconds, because it won't. It did, however, tell me the general temperature of the different surfaces after it had sat there awhile.

Unfortunately, this thermometer just cannot take the heat of a charcoal grill. Obviously I don't expect it to display temperatures out of its boundaries, but it should at least survive them. According to the thermometer, my grill surface is off the scale the scale goes to 750, and the needle moved past that all the way back almost to its starting position, which could mean anything above 800ºF. But that temperature seems to have cooked the thermometer! The casing now looks more like bronze than stainless steel, and all of the color on the dial has turned black. The surface of the dial has also darkened, and the glass bezel turned a bit cloudy and brown. And it's definitely not a matter of cleaning it; I gave it a very thorough scrub. It's probably still usable I'll try again tonight but it's going to be a lot harder to read the temperature.

Bottom line if your "high" grill temperature is weak (in the 600 to 750 range), this might be a four-star product. If your grill gets hotter than that, it becomes a two-star product after the first use.

Note that I'm not promising it won't cook at 600-750ºF, but it certainly cooks above that.

Used a couple of times. No way to check accuracy, but seem O.K.

Externally, appears well constructed. Responds to temperature satisfactorily.

Wipes clean easily. Kind of neat. I like it!

Works for me though I have only used it about 4 grills so far. I have a Weber Performer and prefer having another thermometer (Grill surface) to compare for cooking temps. Happy grilling!

OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer

OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read ThermometerI've purchased and enjoyed many OXO products in the past, and will purchase and enjoy OXO products in the future. This digital thermometer was definitely not one of their finer efforts.

I got to use the thermometer a grand total of 3 whole times before it quit working, and I absolutely could not turn it off. The little on/off button on the top had quit responding, as had the button that switched the display between F and C.

On top of that, I couldn't open the battery compartment to try to see if there was a reset switch. No amount of effort would turn the coin-sized slot enough to get the cover off. All that was accomplished was shredding the plastic.

There are other thermometers out there. Pick one of them.

We got the OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer for our wedding shower. The screen is too heavy for the thermometer, especially for a digital one. Instant read is a joke; it takes far too long to give you a reading. And then there is the issue of accuracy. Sometimes it gives us an accurate reading, sometimes it doesn't. We have to double check with another thermometer. Save your money, there are better products out there.

Buy OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer Now

I tend to like most OXO stuff, but this thermometer is an exception. It takes a very long time to read temperatures, and maybe worse than that, the display is angled in such a way that makes it difficult to read.

Read Best Reviews of OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer Here

Pros:

Easy to Use

Large easy-to-read digital display

Accurate temperature reading

Fahrenheit and Celsius options

Thermometer sleeve has convenient doneness chart built in

Cons:

Top-heavy design

Failed after 9 months of regular use

Battery case extremely difficult to open (stripped plastic with coin trying to open battery case)

After replacing battery, I discovered that the battery wasn't the problem, but that the unit failed

Bottom Line:

I'd probably buy this product again with the knowledge that I'll be replacing it again in the future. After 25 years, I still have not found the ideal meat thermometer.

Want OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer Discount?

I love these thermometers. They work quickly and well and the numbers are big enough to actually see. I had one of these before that had a better storage sleeve, in that it gave temperatures for rare, medium, well, etc. Now they just give a degree figure that is basicly meaningless to me. We have melted them on the barbecue which is why we bought 2 this time. MOVE THE FOOD away from the heat.

Mr. Heater Propane Gas Quick Connect Coupling Adapter Kit #F276330

Mr. Heater Propane Gas Quick Connect Coupling Adapter Kit #F276330Two years ago I purchased this Mr. Heater quick connect coupling F276330. Last week I discovered that the quick connect was leaking. I removed the quick connect from the propane tank and discovered that the rubber O ring was broken. I called Mr. Heater's customer service and was advised that I had to replace the entire quick connect coupling adapter for $29.99 (the warranty on this coupling is one year). According to Mr. Heater, the F276330 coupling is supposed to be a permanent installation, so no separate parts, not even an O ring, are available. For the want of a ten cent O ring, the entire quick connect coupling adapter was lost!!!

I would recommend this if you have a very old grill with a quick release regulator: this adapter will allow you to hook your old grill up to a new standard tank. That said, I would not recommend this to someone who goes trough propane tanks on a weekly basis as this adapter is not made to be mounted and dismounted easily or efficiently.

Buy Mr. Heater Propane Gas Quick Connect Coupling Adapter Kit #F276330 Now

Excellent quality. Easily releases with one hand like it supposed to not like the others. Great customer service that cares about your specific needs. I bought these for my emergency generator and Mr. Heater set me up with the hoses as well for the propane. Works like a charm. No more wrenches, this quick connect is perfect.

Cheers!

Camp Chef Dutch Oven Stand

Camp Chef Cast Iron Dutch Oven StandThis table works well for what it is. It gets your Dutch Oven out of the dirt and gives you a nice surface to have coals/briquettes on.

The top surface has some sort of coating on it that makes for very easy clean up. Almost a non-stick coating like on pots and pans, but thicker, more heavy duty.

The legs are 3/8" bolts that screw and unscrew from nuts that are welded onto the bottom of the table itself.

I think for the price that this is a great item to have for use with your Dutch Oven. And I'm sure other uses for too..

When a larger table isn't available, this little stand works great. The design is simple and the funtion is useful. I've stacked 3 12" ovens on this thing without any problem.

Buy Camp Chef Dutch Oven Stand Now

This is a sturdy little table, I have two and use them often. They are perfect for supporting your dutch oven next to the campfire. It is also a great addition for those folks who have a bigger cook table, it will hold hot pots, charcoal starters and more.

Read Best Reviews of Camp Chef Dutch Oven Stand Here

This is simple to set up, ultra convenient, and sturdy. We have several Dutch ovens, two 6 quarts and 12 quart. These can be stacked on this table one on top of the other with the use of the Dutch ovens. The table is a good idea when you want to use more than one Dutch oven and you are at a campground that you are perhaps unfamiliar with. Our first time out with this one we went to a campground we had never been to before, and typically, we create our own pit for our Dutch ovens, at this campground that was not an option and the fire pits and strange grates on them and coals would easily fall through and the grate didn't lift. It was a terrible idea for a camping fire pit.

The Dutch oven table was the perfect accessory so we could make lasagna, bread and brownies stacked on top of one another on the Dutch oven table.

The table cleans up easily. There are four screws that make up the legs and take seconds to put on. It is stable and handled the weight of three full Dutch ovens. For the price, it exceeded my expectations.

I chose this dutch oven stand so that I could get up off the ground. I can use it with the legs provided or in my grill without the legs.

Our Name Is Mud by Lorrie Veasey Grilled By Dad Large Oval Platter, 1-Inch

Our Name Is Mud by Lorrie Veasey Grilled By Dad Large Oval Platter, 1-InchThis plate is a perfect gift for dads that like to grill. My husband loves it. Great for a fathers day gift.

I thought this platter was so funny had to get it for my brother. It says "the man, the meat, the legend" [a little play on words for 'the man, the myth, the legend'] and "grilled by dad, best chef in the back yard". The platter seemed pretty heavy-weight and well made, from what I could tell.

Sanyo HPS-MC3 3-in-1 Nonstick Electric Multi-Cooker

Sanyo HPS-MC3 3-in-1 Nonstick Electric Multi-CookerI am cheap (Asian), and was not keen on plopping down $100 on this cooker. Totally worth it. I got it after I saw some little old ladies at 99 Ranch buying one!

Cooks hot pot like a CHAMP. I was using a single burner with a divided hot pot pot (lol) on top and I had to boil a separate pot the stove to keep up with demand (feeding 4 adults). No more! This thing is sooo convenient. Super easy to adjust the temperature and it heats up quickly.

Nice safety feature that it has a magnetic power cord, in case someone trips over it or you have kids. It stays on just fine.

Also works great as a steamer.

The finish is conducive to easy cleanup.

The grill part...well, I mean...it's essentially a one-sided George Foreman grill. Nothing too special there--but it is very easy to clean.

Buy it! You know if the old Chinese ladies at 99 Ranch were buying, it HAS to be good.

**Update**

Owned it now for almost a year. Still going strong, still highly recommended. It even saved me through a stove issue (2 weeks for the new part to arrive). There are a lot of things you can make with this cooker, I have to say.

I just moved into a tiny place with no kitchen to speak of and this product is perfect for me. With interchangeable grill plate and cooking pot, the one base takes up less overall space in my cabinet. I've used it for eggs, pancakes, stir-fry, steaming vegetables, macaroni and cheese, grilled steak and chicken. I'll make some mean chili this fall I'm sure. The whole thing is nonstick and cleans up easily with a paper towel. I recommend this for a dorm room or as an efficient alternative to a full size cooktop. I first discovered SANYO a few years ago when I bought my first toaster oven. I debated buying an indoor grill but went all out for this "multi-cooker".

I bought this for my wife so we could do Nabe / Hot Pot/ Shabu Shabu / etc. It's significantly more expensive than buying a pot and a gas burner (which you can get at an Asian grocery for ~$40), but it is very high quality.

We've done Japanese Nabe and Sichuan Hot Pot in this pot and they were both great. The pot cooks very evenly and is more than enough for 4 people (I would think it could serve up to 8, definitely could do 6). The whole apparatus feels very solid like it was built to last.

Included also is a metal rack that that can be used to steam food (we used it for shumai and gyoza / jiaozi / potstickers.) We had been using our rice cooker for this, but the HPS-MC3 is a lot larger allowing you to steam a whole meal's worth and the design is such that it's easy to put it on your table and eat your food fresh from the steam.

The HPS-MC3 also includes a grilling plate which we might use some day but we haven't used it for that purpose.

I would highly recommend the HPS-MC3 for your home hotpot needs. Also, you can find it for less than $100 on other websites, but just make sure to do your math because shipping is free over $25 on Amazon but other websites have different policies.

I was hoping this would live up to all the reviews I read, and it does! I made beef sukiyaki and ginger pork all under 2 hours, it is the best hot pot and I really love it, great for making Japanese dishes, and I was really surprised how easy it was to clean up afterwards, just so people get this beforehand, Wash out each peice very throughly(not the base peice obviously), just run each through the dishwasher to get rid of the coating, don't try burning it off because it has that new nonstick smell lol But all in all this was the easiest easiest!!

UPDATE 7-2012

I had this for a year and then the pan warped and the oil always spread the wrong way, it didn't heat right and I donated it and bought a zojirushi instead, it was great for about 5 mos and then I just put up with it until I could get something better.

This multi-cooker is perfect for small kitchens that have limited storage. I can grill, steam, stew, makes great home fries. I wouldn't be surprised if I could bake things like cornbread. With the flat bottom it makes nice looking omelets. Enough said, it's well worth the $85.00 (with free shipping). I try to buy locally, but the neighborhood store didn't want to go lower than their $110.00. Sorry, I need to watch my dollars as much as possible these days. Thank you Amazon.

Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven and Grill Cleaner, 24-Ounce Cans, 2-Count

Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven and Grill Cleaner, 24-Ounce Cans, 2-CountThey came out with a Fume Free but I always forget to get it unless I see it. Anyways this product works really well, but as I stated before watch the fumes.

Cheers!

Okay ... so last weekend was the first time we used our new stove for some heavy cooking ... deep frying to be precise. We fried several loads of french fries, chicken strips, and cooked hamburger patties on the griddle ... simultaneously. With 17 impatient and hungry teenagers walking into the kitchen every 90 seconds to see if the food was ready, with the woks filled to the rim (my mistake ... I filled em too much), with all available BTUs firing at full force, with sizzling (and splattering) oil all over, by the time party ended at 2:30 a.m., the sight of the stove was worse than filthy. Oil was all over the stove and was cooked brown and black. I did not have the energy to clean. Honestly, I didn't think cleaning would do any good, I thought the damage was permanent. Few days went by while the cooking (and nagging from the wife) continued. Last night I tried to clean with multi-purpose household cleaner. Not even the mildest stain budge. So this morning I went to the Home Depot and bought 3 different and well known oven and grill cleaners. Easy-Off Heavy Duty Oven and Grill Cleaner was one of em. Came home, sprayed little bit of each of the product on three different areas and waited. 15 minutes later I went back to see if any of it worked. I was not expecting much (you should've seen my stove to understand why). I wiped the treated areas with clean paper towel and my jaw dropped. While the other 2 products did their job ... sorta, Easy-Off worked like magic. It removed some 1/16" thick layer of grease from the treated area in one swipe. Despite the fact that I had to treat the stove 3 times to bring it back to never-before-used condition, I am giving this product 5 fully justified stars and will try more of their cleaning products in future.

Buy Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven and Grill Cleaner, 24-Ounce Cans, 2-Count Now

I am disappointed in this oven cleaner. The odor is overwhelming, and the cleaning ability is underwhelming. I went through three cleaning cycles with this product on an oven that was far from filthy. Even with three consecutive cleanings, the bottom of the oven still had baked-on dirt. I am not sure what is 'heavy duty' about this, but it is most assuredly NOT its cleaning power. I won't be buying this again.

I was looking for a product to clean the top of my gas stove and the two large grate plates that sit on the surface--have had the stove 2-3 years and even though I clean it often, it was getting a build up of hard to remove stuff. I put each grate in a plastic bag, sprayed the grates, then sprayed the surface of the stove and covered with plastic bag as well; left overnight. In the morning just wiped the gunk away--the stove and grates look like new! So glad I tried this product.

Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini Grill

Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini GrillI had lusted after this little baby for some time and finally bought it when I found a great deal on it. It makes the most amazing sandwiches, which you can custom-tailor to your tastes. I also used it for a rolled flank steak, stuffed with mushrooms and cut into thick slices. Each slice cooked perfectly at medium heat, although like all steaks, it requires a watchful eye to prevent overcooking.

My experience with vegetables was similarly good. Peppers, onions, eggplant slices all cook in minutes with good result. I have not tried chicken breasts, but from reading the other reviews, imagine that the results will be similar.

One negative: fish can be a tricky business on this grill. I cooked an ahi steak for only a few minutes and it was overdone. I bought a stovetop grill pan specifically for fish after that (well, I confess I do throw a little bacon on it too from time to time).

I am quite satisfied with this panini grill, and love my homemade paninis. I found that a sliced kaiser or hoagie roll works well, as well as thickly sliced Italian or sourdough bread. My favorite sandwich?: thickly sliced bread, olive tapenade, roasted red pepper slices and sliced fontina. Who said heaven isn't right here?

I've had this panini press for 6 months now, and use it at least twice a week. Works extremely well, as advertised. Easy to clean, and stores well, too. It gets verry hot unlike some countertop grills on the market steam the meat. Crispy well marked dinner and lunch entree's. Non-stick coating still shows no indication of wear. This grill looks snazzy too! Makes super panini; the recipes enclosed, (of which I've used 2) are a great guide to the world of hot pressed sandwiches. Next purchase, is a panini and bruschetta cookbook. Overall, very happy with this purchase

Buy Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini Grill Now

Pros:

So Pretty!

Cooks evenly!

Non-stick surface works great!

Especially great for sandwiches because of the flexible hinge.

High quality product!

Cons:

Grooves are deep making it a pain to clean, especially after cooking meats.

Doesn't have a digital tempature gage.

No timer.

Doesn't have removable plates, which would be especially nice.

If I were to do it again, well, I'd probably still be tempted by this grills beauty and quality. But there's a new George Foreman grill that I think I'd rather have now. It has it all, removable plates, digital tempature gage and timer, it just doesn't have the beauty of the Villaware. Although review aren't in on that one yet.

Read Best Reviews of Villaware V2160 UNO ProPress Panini Grill Here

I was a big George Forman fan, but after all the non-stick surface eventually peeled off, I deceided to see if there was another brand on the market with similiar purpose. First the negative, there is NO ON / OFF switch. I guess this isn't the worst because it's probably unsafe to leave a 1400 watt grill plugged in all the time.

I knew this could create great panini sandwiches, but how could it do with meats. I had previously cooked for over a year on the George Forman grill and the hamilton beach steam grill, but would the Villaware compare? I was familiar with Villaware from my Waffle Maker, so I was willing to try the brand again. I cooked two pork chops. I marinated them on the grill with sauce.

I wasn't sure what heat level to use, so I figured about 3/4, but this was to much. I lowered it slightly, cut into them to check the progress. They seemed to cook very fast and even, but also browned with thin lines throughout. They looked picture perfect when completed. Wow, restaurant quality at home from a bachelor. The taste was excellent, it seemed to trap the flavor, unlike the watery results with the competition. What a great grill.

I will say the clean up was very easy with the "plastic tool" that is provided (just don't ever loose it). The plastic cleaning tool with "teeth" seems to be of high quality plastic, unlike the flimsey george forman cheap plastic. Also, the drip tray is stainless steel type metal, what a difference from the cheap plastic tray from GF. In fact my GF cheap plastic trey once melted from touching it with a hot object, no worries with the Villaware.

I might actually buy a cook book for the first time. I feel like I'll be able to impress friends with this grill. Did I also mention that it opens up to 3" when cooking and automatically forms a parallel cooking surface of the top and bottom.

I would have given it a higher rating if they had an on/off switch and a timer. Maybe they'll put these features on a future version.

Enjoy...

This has got to be the best grill out! I just about bought a Foreman grill, until I happened across this grill in a store. I quickly rushed home to see how it was reviewed on Amazon, and to check Amazon's price.

I used to work at a store that had a deli that made Paninis, and ate them all the time. Love em, love em, love em!

I've had it for 2 months, and still use it 3-4 times a week.

Once you buy this, you will never eat another "regular" sandwhich again!

It's easy! All you do is make your favorite sandwhich while the maker is heating up, spray with a little bit of olive oil (or whatever oil you like), and put your sandwhich in the grill, pushing down on the sandwhich every once in a while to create that melding of the flavors I love so..... mmmmm...

Oh, and what sandwhich isn't made better by bacon!?! It literally takes less than a minute for bacon to cook (just make sure you've got your drip tray in place), and it comes out perfectly flat and ready to put on your sandwhich.

Plus! Look how much cheaper it is to eat sandwhiches made at home, rather than those you buy at McRonald's or BurgerStink. Now, not only is it cheaper, but it tastes soooo much better!!!

Words of advise:

*Make sure temperature selector is at highest setting for the best paninis.

*Wait until after you've grilled your sandwhich before adding stuff like tomatoes, lettuce, or other stuff you don't want to get soggythey will be heated, too (although, I happen to like the way the lettuce tastes after it's been cooked with the sandwhich).

*Oh-my-gosh, these sandwhiches taste sooo much better with thinly sliced RED onions, red wine vinegar, deli style mustard, and the new fancy smancy mayonases (such as the chipolte or sun dried tomato).

*Use a good bread. I like to get a nice loaf of Italian and slice it on a bias, so as to get a longer sandwhich. The bread will smush down, so I like to cut the slices a little thicker, also. Plus, if you use a crusty bread, it just adds that "little extra" to it.

Well, what are you waiting for!?! You'd be a fool not to get a panini maker! LOL! I almost slapped down a wad of cash (20-30 more than this one, bought at Amazon) on one of the Foremans, but this does all they can do, plus makes THE BEST sandwhiches! We used to eat at the fast food places all the time, but we haven't been to one since we bought this! Even scrubway!! 6 grams of fat?? I can do better than that with tons more flavor!

I haven't seen a better price than on Amazon, either.

King Kooker 14103 Stainless Steel Slotted Spoon

King Kooker 14103 Stainless Steel Slotted SpoonThis is a great spoon for brewing beer! I would recommend it because it's stainless steel and of pretty good quality. It was made in China but isn't everything these days.

I've tried lots of slotted spoons in plastic and cheap stainless, and all of them were lousy. This one is a huge improvementit wont bend, it's long enough to reach comfortably to the bottom of my stock pot, and it's well-proportioned. The only issue I have is the handle end, which being flat digs into my palm when I lift large things, like a chicken, out of the pot. That's not much of a complaint, and the price is excellent. Recommended.

Nordic Ware Grand Reversible Griddle

Nordic Ware Grand Reversible GriddleI purchased this griddle to cook meat and vegetables with score marks, similar to an outdoor grill.

First use: I had the heat on medium high and preheated the griddle. My raw meat was marinated in Italian dressing ahead of time. With cooking underway, the meat stuck to the griddle. I waited some time to give the meat a chance to release itself, just like I do outside on the grill. No luck I had to pry it off. Plus, the Italian dressing and meat juices scorched onto the recessed griddle areas between the grill ribs.

I spent ten minutes cleaning it with a sponge, scratch pad, and lots of elbow grease. Nearly impossible to clean in between the grill ribs. The griddle itself does not fit in the dishwasher, so forget that idea...

Returned it for a refund.

This was a shot in the dark. Make sure not to cook more than 4 slices of bacon at a time, the grease will collect and get almost over filling with 6 slices. Be very careful when it gets full of hot grease. Eggs cook ok. There are better units out there.

Camp Chef Campsite Popcorn PopperThe handle that screws in to the lid fell off in about ten minutes, the wooden handle having been stripped inside by the metal of the screw. This was followed by the paint being stripped off after I cleaned it up a bit. I regret this purchase.

The product has been completely redesigned over a year ago and I got a chance to test this product.

The handle is longer and better quality wood and the box is great quality.

Positives: Long handle

Big Capacity

fun for big groups

Cons: just like roasting marshmallows if you get it too hot it will burn on the bottom. After testing it a few times, we found a tip is to let it pop until you the popping slows down, shake it a bit and pull it off until it stops popping.

We sprinkled salt and lime on the popcorn and it was a great late night snack.
