once it is properly seasoned I use it all the time. As it is cast iron it holds the heat, great for frying with a small amount of oil. scrambled eggs , stir fries. chicken wings etc. With its flat bottom it is stable and safe on a gas range. I am single I can easily make a small amount of food with just a little hot oil, or a feast for 4-5 people. The magic is in the cast iron and how it holds the heat and the round bottom that is ideal for stir frying, Seasoned cast iron and blue steel pans are indestructible, wonderfully non stick and cheap . I find other so called non stick pans worthless for browning, frying, they don't keep their non stick properties for very long and are grossly over priced. Hope this helps, Steve in Cleveland

I've wanted a cast iron wok that would work without a ring on an electric stove for years. After I managed to permanently damage the last non-stick one I had in less than 3 uses, I decided to get online and after much searching decided on this one. One concern that I had was size, most woks I was looking at were too large for my stove. Turns out this one has a larger profile than I thought it would, due to the handle. It also takes several minutes to warm up in part due to the heavy base. It also must been seasoned first. But once I got it seasoned, figured out that letting it heat up while I chopped the veggies and meat was the most efficient way to go, and that while it was something of a space hog on my small stove it really didn't matter after all, I was a happy wok user. Best part? Being heavy duty cast iron means it will never get heat damaged! I am only sorry I didn't get this sooner, it would have saved me the 40+ bucks I wasted on the one I got from the fancy cookware store that lasted less than a week before the non-stick coating started to peel off.

I bought this a couple of months ago, and I have used it extensively. If taken care of properly, it should last quite a while. I have found that it works best if you heat it on the stove for 10-15 minutes before adding anything to it. Once it is hot, it stays hot. I have made several servings of stir-fry in one long cooking session, and the last one cooked just as well as the first.

This wok is a nice size, very solid but not too heavy for cast iron. I find that the two handles make the wok quite manageable. The edges are somewhat rough, if not even sharp in certain areas. It did not arrive pre-seasoned as did some other cast iron pieces (of a different brand) that I have recently purchased.

For some reason, the big-box hardware stores recently stopped carrying replacement grills for my gas BBQ. I had a suspicion that I would still find replacement parts on Amazon. The grill rack I ordered is the upper level rack that swivels as the lid goes up and down. The replacement fit perfectly. No need to buy a new grill while parts for the old one remain available. Sounds like a big-box plot against old grills. I would suggest, though, that you carefully measure your old grill before ordering a replacement. There a many sizes available. Don't go by the picture.....go by the measurements that mirror the ones on your grill.

Nordic Ware Zoo Friends Pancake Pan

What can I say, my grandson loves these pancakes! They are hard to flip though, so I use 2 pans at a time. Once they are ready to flip over from the animal shape, I flip them onto a flat square griddle to cook the other side. Much easier, and after all you really only need to see one side of the pancake to see the animal face.

My daughter and I love to make fun shaped pancakes and this makes it so easy. A small spatula would be a good addition to this item.

I used this pan for the first time this morning and it made really cute little pancakes. Even my two year-old liked them! My advice for flipping them is to use two wooden skewers. Use one to get under and lift up the bottom of the pancake and the other to stabilize the pancake as you flip it. Worked great for me!

Our 3 youngest grandchildren loved eating pancakes make on this pan. They made the animal sounds and asked for them by animal name. Too cute. The pancakes are a little tricky to turn over but worth the effort. I make these by lightly spraying the pan, putting it on the stove top burner and letting it heat up a little before putting the batter in the circles. It does not take much batter. We have made the pancakes ahead of time and simple put a batch in a zip lock bag and froze them.

It has all the functions a modern Microwave should have. It needs to be mounted very carefully, otherwise the vibrations of the metal housing create the most frightening noise your kitchen ever has experienced. My problem was the automatic fan which should prevent the oven from overheating: it run from the first second and never shut down. Ordered through Amazon, delivered by AJ Madison and manufactured by GE I first had to find out who is actually responsible for warranty and service. I got this brush over the one with the longer metal handle because I wanted to be able to scrub as hard as I needed to without the metal part bending. I spent a good deal of money on what I thought would be the last fry pan I would ever own. It's backed by a lifetime warranty, so how can you loose? Well, let me tell you. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects like bubbles and chips. But, there are more ways for the fry pan to fail than are covered by the lifetime warranty.

I've owned this for about a year. I've never used metal utensils, never put it into the dishwasher, and never cleaned it with steel wool. Over the time I've owned it, the pan developed a sheen to it. Without warning, one day the pan just stopped being non-stick. Now everything sticks, even with liberal amounts of butter or oil. I wrote to Scanpan to ask them about their lifetime warranty. They sent me two pages of photographs of situations which aren't covered. What seems like normal use to me might look like over-heating to them, which voids the warranty.

The problem is Scanpan puts a large metal disc on the bottom, which appears to be designed to provide even heating. What it does in practice is a) requires a long time to heat up and b) burns the corners since this is a square pan with a heavy round disc.

So, I'm buying another brand today, much cheaper. Why spend a fortune on a pan which only lasts a year when a cheaper pan will do the same job at a fraction of the price? I cannot recommend Scanpan products.

edit: I just received the Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Griddle, purchased here from Amazon and I'm much happier. It takes a lot less time to heat up, looks better, and has a better non-stick finish than this more expensive one. It doesn't have the heavy metal disc on the bottom so I don't have to wait as long for it to warm up and the corners are in less of a danger of being burnt. Save your money. Don't buy from a company who will not honor their so-called lifetime warranty. I didn't get any more use out of this pan than far less expensive models. Use the money you save to buy yourself a nice steak.

The pan does everything we wanted and cleaning is a snap. We checked out every pan there is this size and this is the best. Great for Pancakes, bacon, eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches, and burgers. Never burns or smokes like teflon pans and surface doesn't peel.

As you can tell we love it.

Yes, the griddle is wonderful for pancakes. The problem I have is that the surface material bubbled up over the very center of the griddle. It is cracking and I see that eventually the material will flake off.

The double skewer design is great. The tines are nice and long, the pointy bits are good and sharp and go through everything I tried them on. The problem is the slippery round handle. You have to grip the food itself to turn the skewer over. If you're doing tomatoes, you're going to wreck one, and if you're doing chicken you just touched raw meat with the tongs and have to go clean them. It would be better if the handle had a flattened end so you could grip that for turning. My other single metal skewers have a ring-shaped end which you can grab easily for turning.

The main problem I have when making kabobs is when i go to turn them, half ot the stuff on the skewer spins and half doesn't so part of the food burns and part doesn't cook evenly. This solves that problem quite nicely. I wish the handles were a little longer but otherwise I am very happy. They are well made too and worth the extra money.

These had mostly everything I sought after in a set of BBQ skewers--the double-prongs, the slider bar to remove food, the longer length, stainless steel construction. The wooden handles on other skewers look great and are easier to handle, but I felt I'd burn them to a crisp long before I had gotten my use out of them; so these were more practical and long lasting. I bought 2 sets and used them already for chunks of Vidalia onions grilled on the BBQ. The onions threaded easily and stayed put. I am looking forward to using these all summer long. George Foreman GR0059P 120 Square Inch Healthy Cook Variable Temperature Grill

I got this grill for Christmas, and as of today, it has already been used 3 times. I love it, it is the best George Foreman grill I have ever seen. I always liked the grills, but I haven't bought one for years, and the one thing I didn't like has apparently been fixed. Before, they didn't have variable temp controls, and that limited them a bit one what and how you could cook with them. No longer, and it works awesome.

It has even heating, a HUGE surface to cook on, and a very large drain to put in front. I don't know the specific temps it uses for L-M-H, but it works great on low for mushrooms and other things like that, medium for chops to get them just right and fully cooked, and high makes a perfect m/r steak or burger.

Looking forward to a lot of use with this thing, makes dinnertime easier, and warms the house less than the stove/oven, much like my crockpots!

I have been in need of a new George Foreman Grill for a long, long time... my 1st generation grill stopped working months ago, and I have been putting off getting a new one because I wasn't sure that I wanted to shell out the money for the top of the line model. I knew I wanted a variable temp model, and chose this one because of the price point and the temp control. I use my grill mainly for making panini sandwiches and, unfortunately, this grill does not get hot enough to sear, and the top lid and plate are not as heavy as the they are on the older model. It took 15 minutes to grill one panini, when my old model got the job done in five, with a perfect sear on the bread and enough weight from the lid to press the sandwich. I will be returning this model in favor of a different one... hopefully, one that works properly.

Wow---I don't know why I waited this long to jump on the George bandwagon, but I'm sorry I did. I realize that an outdoor grill makes almost all the difference in grilled foods, but who has the time during the week to wait for coals to heat up? And why would I want to stand outside with the humidity and mosquitoes biting to grill foods on a gas grill that will take twice as long to cook my food?

For entire meals (meat and vegetables)this is a perfect product for a two person family, for just meat or sandwiches this will really be great for a four person family. I've tried this with all sorts of goods now and I haven't found one that didn't cook to perfection.

I have two complaints and one is that although it is easy to clean, it is a bit awkward to clean the top grill plate. The other is that it did not come with a more detailed instruction/usage manual, but then most of the instructions and recipes can be found easily on line.

I use this product on top of my stove so I can use the fan to take away some of the smoke. Mind you there is NOT a lot of smoke, actually no more than pan frying your foods, but with a glass topped stove it is so much easier this way.

The cord is nice and long and the size of the product itself makes storage in a cabinet or pantry fairly easy. The drip tray allows your foods to not cook in excess fat (just like an outdoor gas grill) The temperature controls allows you to cook things to just the way you want them.

My one regret is that it did not come with a more detailed instruction manual, but then most of the instructions and recipes can be found easily on line.

We bought this GF grill for our family with hopes of saving time and keeping the kitchen cool and it did but a a price.

While it can cook a large steak, 4 burgers, or 6 chicken breasts in under 10 minutes, everything that comes out of it is dry dry dry. It might give some "grill marks", but you might as well paint them on cause there's no grilled flavor at all. We haven't enjoyed eating anything coming off this grill. Our wonderful no-stick heavy fry pan does a MUCH better job.

Then there is the MESS.

The thin, shallow, and completely unsecured plastic "grease tray" has to be perfectly positioned to catch all the drippings. It has no weight itself, or even rubberized feet to keep it in place and the grill itself has slippery plastic feet too. Keeping both perfectly aligned while opening and closing it to cook is like trying to stack ice cubes and this is before the counter is greasy from all the "misses". But if you do happen to catch some grease, make sure you don't have far to go with it because trying to keep a shallow foot long grease boat from spilling as you desperately attempt to dump it in the sink is a labor of pure frustration as globs of hot grease splatter onto the floor.

But after the messy cooking job, cleaning is a cinch, right? You'd think that who ever designed this monstrosity of an appliance would have some cleaning method that made sense well, you'd be wrong. Not only don't the non-stick plates come out, but the clam-shell doesn't come apart. So you have to take this greasy grimy mess and somehow finagle it in different directions to clean it out and it needs to be cleaned every time. I spent 15 minutes de-greasing the beast last night a far cry from the 45 seconds it takes to clean out my good fry pan.

I've boxed it up and will be returning it this afternoon!

Stansport Magnesium Fire Starting Tool

This is one of the essential survival tools to have with you when camping. This block of magnesium and the built in striker rod to throw the spark is easy to use and can be a life saver. You shave off a small pile of magnesium shavings with your knife and then strike a spark with the back of your knife blade to ignite the shavings that are placed into your tender to start the fire. Burner connected perfectly in my Char-Broil 463811903. The venturi pipes were an exact fit including the drilled holes to clip in. Having received the grill with a rusted burner, I don't know what the original flame looked like but this burner creates a blue flame at nearly all levels. The only critique I have of it is that it doesn't have a fitting for the lighter spark unit to attach to that was on the factory part.

12" Cast Iron Skillet

Researched and found Cook's review stating that this was the heaviest cast iron skillet around, great for heat retention etc. It is listed at 9 lbs. When I received mine it felt light so I weighed it, 6.8 lbs which is lighter that any of my other 12 inch skillets. I called camp chef and they said they had changed them because people said they were too heavy. I told her that it said 9 lbs on their web site and she said "oh, I guess we need to change that" I asked her why they would change the only feature that gave their skillet a "best buy" rating, she said that it was an engineers decision. All in all, don't buy if you are looking for a heavy duty skillet.

After giving away all my mother's cast iron skillets, and using the "new improved" non-stick ones (and finding them unsatisfactory in the long run), I turned to my beloved Cook's magazine reviews of equipment for help. They recommended this skillet, which I ordered. Cheap, works well, no hassle with the non-stick surface scratching or delaminating! Old technology sometimes IS better, and cheaper.

This skillet would survive a nuclear war. Heavy, thick and indestructible. It's actually difficult to wash this thing by holding it by the handle with one hand and scrubbing with the other due to its heft. Purchased this item because of a high rating from America's Test Kitchen. It does come pre-tempered from the factory (in China). Nice skillet, but my only problem is the logos cast into the bottom of the pan. I use an electric stove and (with the cast logos) it does not sit stable on the burner. You have to "hunt" for a position that it will not rock. I am actually looking to get the logo milled off the bottom at a machine shop. Other than that, it is a heavy skillet that should last generations with proper care.

I am an avid cast iron user and have many different types/brands. I have a 10 inch Camp Chef skillet that I have had an extremely hard time layering the seasoning on. However, this 12 inch seems to be coming along very nicely. I bought it at a local camping store. I wanted a Lodge 12 inch but they were sold out, so I reluctantly took this one. Because of the seasoning issue with the 10 inch, I was hesitant to buy this one. However, it is a heavy, even cooking, excellent piece of cast iron and is seasoning well. Black & Decker CTO4300 Perfect Broil Countertop Oven

This is my first countertop oven. I've owned it for about 3 months and love it. So far I've used it to bake or broil muffins, potatoes, chicken legs, garlic bread, Totino's frozen pizza, enchilada casserole, pasta casserole.... not to mention toasted bread, bagels, and English muffins . This oven delivers.

The included drip pan/broil trays are only slightly thicker than disposable aluminum pans but are still useful for broiling. Good news is the size of this oven easily accommodates some of my smaller conventional bake ware such as an 8 X 8 inch Pyrex dish and a 6 cup muffin tin. I like the fact it has 4 heating elements, 2 top, 2 bottom which seems to promote more even heat distribution than the 2 element toaster I've used at the office. I like the 3 mechanical controls. One for temp, one to control the heating coils, and a countdown timer that actually turns the oven off when it dings. The control knobs have a solid feel. There is also a "stay warm" feature that works great for warming dinner plates. Yes, this oven will hold a stack of at least 4 dinner plates and will keep them warm while your regular oven cooks. I also like that the wire grill is offset to provide 4 different elevation levels by simply flipping it over and using either of the 2 side slides. The all glass door is easy to clean. So is the slide out crumb tray. The case gets hot so be sure to check the outside dimensions and give it at least an inch of side clearance. This unit is a little larger than most toaster ovens.

Does this countertop oven replace a conventional oven? Not exactly but it comes close. In a pinch, like a kitchen remodel, a small dorm room or other cramped quarters this oven is a great choice. You could bake, roast, broil, and toast for months using no other appliance. It most certainly replaces a regular oven for small oven jobs like baking two pot pies or 2 baked potatoes or a quick batch of 6 muffins from a mix. I have only used my regular oven twice since this oven arrived. I like having a second oven capacity in my small apartment kitchen. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I have owned B & D toaster ovens for over 10 year I brought this one as a replacement and it works fine for what I mainly use it for, toasting bread. First time I used this appliance, I had a difficult time using the "round" control knobs especially the timer function knob. The round knobs are hard to grip and slippery if your fingers have a some oil on them. To toast, you have to turn the timer knob clockwise past the "toaster" icon on the face and then turn counterclockwise to a point how dark you want your toast. Sounds easy, but this round timer knob mechanism was very stiff/resistant in turning clockwise and then counterclockwise. So the round knob made it hard to do this clockwise/counterclockwise action. The knob was slipping as I did this even with dry fingers. I like the knobs with a raised center grip. I am hoping this stiffness will loosen up as I use it more. Otherwise, the toaster oven is working fine.

I am pretty happy with the toaster oven. It bakes perfectly. I haven't cooked a pizza in it, but I have reheated one and it heated through as if it just cam from the pizzeria. Toasting is a little less than perfect, it takes a VERY long time. There are a couple of things that could have been done better.

*The knobs are hard to turn, unless you have a strong grip with your fingertips, you have to use your whole hand to turn the knobs. They could have made that a little easier.

*When it's time to toast or bake, you have to set all three knobs, kinda tedious.

*To toast, you have to turn the knob to 20, then turn it back to 10 for toasting, it seems like they could have figured out something better.

Overall, decent toaster for the price. If this toaster was any more expensive, I would have rated it much worse.

I just bought this toaster oven. My waffles and bread are toasted pretty evenly. A small drawback is that the timer knob is supposed to be turned to twenty and then to the desired time. It's attractive and I do love that four slices of bread or waffles fit easily. It makes feeding kids quicker in the morning. So far, I would recommend this product.

Many "just purchased and love it" reviews tend to show up on Amazon (I've posted several myself), but it's always helpful to see a review where the reviewer has used the product for awhile and can truly speak to the pros and cons from experience. I've used this B&D toaster oven for several years and here's my review:

1. 3 stars solely because, for the cheap price, this toaster oven continued working for several years. That's really not bad for such a cheap oven.

2. I never use this B&D oven for toast you have to fiddle with several knobs just to toast, and the toasting takes too long and is uneven.

3. My unit has a hot spot in the left rear corner and had it from Day One. When baking any kind of bread product (such as biscuits), I have to remember to turn the tray around partway thru baking to get everything to bake evenly.

4. After several years the white housing now looks pretty bad, especially in the center front where the top has a distinct "burned" look from high heat.

5. The hooks on the door (designed to grab the rack and pull it out for you as you open the door) seemed nifty at first glance, but buyer beware. The hooks do pull out the rack, but they then push the rack back unevenly when you attempt to close the door and the rack often dislodges from the track inside. You then have to manually jimmy the rack back into its track. All the while the heat from the oven is escaping into the room and you're trying your darnedest to not get burned. SO FRUSTRATING.

Today I've reached my last nerve with this unit. For the money I was willing to spend several years ago, this little toaster oven was not a bad purchase. You have to endure a few frustrations. This time around I'm spending a bit more with the hope of getting better performance. You can be sure I'll be looking for a door design that does not have those infuriating hooks!
