Le Creuset Oblong Skillet Grill

I bought this pan in red a few years ago at great sale somewhere; perhaps Williams-Sonoma or le Creuset Outlet. When I saw it today as a Gold Box lightning deal, I had to speak up. It is perfect for broiling greasier meats with its ridges. I use it often for combination baking/broiling: heat it from the bottom and then broil the top without flipping. Sometimes I start recipe on the stovetop and move to the oven to bake or broil. It comes in a square dimension also. While the cooking surface is enamel, it has a matte finish and cleans fairly easily; just don't confuse with synthetic surfaces, it is still enamel not Teflon.

a lot.

This is a great grill pan because it leaves perfect thin grill marks and the shape accomodates almost any slice of meat desired. The pan works well to start with grilling, then transfers to the oven for finishing, and straight to the table for a sizzling presentation. Since it is oval shaped, it looks more like a platter than a pan so it is really well suited to serve from.

Burgers and chicken tastes great after cooking it on this pan. Can't use the round grill press though too big. If you cook meat on the pan until its well-done, you will have to put a bit of water in it to soak before washing. It can be difficult to wash; but, I still like this pan.

This is the second grill pan in my cooking arsenal. I picked it up during a deal-of-the-day promotion at Amazon, and was anxious to try it out. I was impressed with the way it performed during our first cooking session together, but when it came time to clean the pan egads. It's a nightmare! Food sticks, bakes right on and refuses to let go. I did some research on cleaning options, read reviews, tried different cooking, seasoning, and cleaning methods, hoping to come up with a method that would allow me to cook chicken or a burger without having charred remains in the pan, but frankly, it just isn't worth the effort. Nothing makes much difference. I've greased the pan with Pam, brushed it with oil, used it dry, seared hot, started up cold I've soaked in hot water, cold water, baking soda and water I've soaked for hours, overnight, 24 hours! I am sorry I spent 39.00 on this pan knowing what I know now, I wouldn't spend 3.90 on it. I won't even donate it to our local thrift shop why punish thrift shoppers with this albatross? It'll make a lovely doorstop, and for that I give it one star!

This is an excellent product even if the shipping is expensive. It is very corrosive if not handled properly so therefore it is more costly to ship. It does its job extremely well.

This is a good product for removing heavy baked-on residue, but the aerosol package is the wrong delivery method. Because it is very corrosive you have to be careful not to get it on anything other than what you are cleaning and this is difficult with the spray can. Generally that means putting it on newspaper outside in order to spray it. Next time I will purchase the brush-on version which will make it much easier to use.

It would be helpful if the product information indicated, as the can does, that this is not to be used on Calphalon cookware. I'm sure I'll find some use for it, but I did buy it to remove build up on my primary cookware, which is Calphalon.

Like the "Grease Bullet" that Billy Mayes sold, the claims for this are highly overblown. I tried this out on three cleaning jobs and found it to be NO better than the spray oven cleaner from CostPlus/ I gave this a try with a French steel fry pan, a commercial aluminium saute pan and our barrel type BBQ/Smoker.

First, the can of Carbon Off I got sprayed VERy eratically and would frequently plug up, which made for a really slow process. But on the thte cleaning

The steel pan had a modest amount of carbon built up on the inside rim and a fair amount on the outside. Starting with a warm pan, I sprayed the interior and exterior, leaving the pan to sit for 8 hours before going after the crud. The result was a pretty good loosening of the stuff on the interior, even around the rivits, but it had a hard time with the material around the lip. LOTS of hand scrubbing to lift it off.

The aluminium pan was much dirtier, but came clean faster. However the botrtom, where the stuff had been baked especially hard barely moved. A real waste of time and materials.

The smoker worked the best and the Carbon off took off a lot of acumulated smoke, grease, oil, soot, and other crud.

Overall, I got 5 pans cleaned and the BBG (it is a small one) for about $13. Not a really good deal.

I got this brush over the one with the longer metal handle because I wanted to be able to scrub as hard as I needed to without the metal part bending. This brush works great for getting in the small grating of the q100. Bristles seems sturdy so I don't have to worry about them breaking off on the grill. Never buying cheap brushes again for that reason.

Minden Anytime Grill

I live in an apartment and like everyone else, its very frustrating if you love Charbroiled foods like you would make outdoors. I was soo happy when i came across the Minden Anytime grill. I couldn't wait to try it. They obviously only tested this grill in studio kitchens with above excellent ventilation systems instead of real life homes. I made Burgers the first time, opened the oven exhaust vents, turned on the ceiling fan and maxed out my AC hoping to not set off the smoke detector. Unfortunately there was soo much smoke i had to place the whole pot outside on the patio, and the burgers were more steamed then charbroiled, no grill marks at all. I gave it another chance with a steak, it took forever to cook and was tough as nails, more like a steamed steak. For this thing to really make good charbroiled burgers and steaks with actual grill marks, you would have to cook it completely on high burner settings instead of turning down the burner to med-low, and your unable to do that cause your whole house will be filled with smoke. I wanted it to work soo much and now back to looking at more grills.

Love the Anytime Grill. Got it last November, been using it frequently since. Great tasting meat and fish, well worth it if you live in an apartment with "no grills allowed" like we do. It does need a little extra scrubbing when cooking fattier meats, but I still clean with dishwasher often. Oddly enough the thing I use it most for is pizza and reheating food. It gets hot much faster than an oven and revives food so much better than a microwave. Flare-ups do sometimes occur, but so it is with any "real" grill not a problem for me. I don't find it any smokier than a fry pan, as long as I keep the heat low.

I really love is grill. I use to set my fire alarm off every time I used it. Then I cooked on 3 instead of 5 and it was very little smoke or not that much. I just made chicken ,it was not as good as it would have been if the fire was set higher ,but it still had a very good tastes.

Ok folks, it's a spatula, turner, whatever. It is definitely a very high quality product that feels good in your hand. You will never need to replace it.

I bought this because the last time I grilled trout it broke up on me when I was trying to flip it with a much smaller spatula. Well mission accomplished with this bad boy. I had ruby red trout a couple of nights ago and had no problems getting the job done.

This is a high quality turner and I was happy to find that it has a grippy surface on the back of the handle. However, we are returning it because it's MONSTROUS. Pay attention to the dimensions listed and make sure that is what you want. Just seems a little big for the purpose! Wish they made a smaller one.

Citrushine Stainless Steel Polish (12 oz)

My wife wanting a stainless steel fridge, we just purchased a Kenmore model. Stainless steel is not stainless when you got 2 preteen boys. One of them left two forensic-quality handprints with an unknown smear on the door. Reading the manual, recommended a light cleaning solution so I tried vinegar and water with decent results except for the prints. Didn't do squat to them. Tried eyeglasses cleaner, no luck. Bought another product from Amazon and while it reduced the handprint smear even after 3 applications, these handprints were still highly visible. Well, I bought Citrushine.

The stainless doors are now immaculate and with an enhanced shine, with very little rubbing. This is amazing stuff after struggling with 3 other solutions. If you got stainless steel appliances, save yourself a lot of hassle. It is quite expensive for just a 12oz container but it does the trick. Two cautions: 1) Read the application instructions, use "only" a light spray on paper towels, I mean light, rubbing in the direction of the metal which is usually vertical;2) do the entire exposed surface of the door or doors; if not, when the partially done part dries, you'll detect a difference between the cleaned part and untouched portion. Actually when you think about the minimal amount of Citrushine you use, the bottle should last quite a while unless you got a couple of indifferent slobberinos living with you.

I can't believe I am writing a review for a cleaning fluid, but anyone with stainless steel appliances HAS to try this. Stainless tends to show fingerprints, water marks, etc. but this takes it right off without polishing and scrubbing. Leaves the surfaces looking fabulous and new. I promise I am not a shill for the manufacturer, but it isn't often I find something that works exactly the way the label says it does. I have Frigidaire stainless steel appliances and have used numerous products to keep the hand prints and grime off of the steel. The stainless steel on that brand has been hard to keep clean/polished. I am like the lady above who can not believe writing a review., but I am doing it for all mothers of the world who thought stainless steel was the way to go. For the purpose of cleaning stainless steel appliances, this works OK. My only issue is with the bottle itself, as sprayer the mist goes everywhere and will leave your hardwood floors slippery. All Clad Electric Griddle

We bought this for Christmas for our daughter and her family. She loves it. The size lets her make enough for the whole family (husband and 3 children). I can attest that pancakes came out perfectly. She has since made several things like french toast and grilled cheese sandwiches. The griddle works great. We are now ordering one for ourselves. She does not like the scraper that comes with it; it seemed to make "marks" on the surface. She uses a plastic spatula instead to scrape stuff off.

I love to cook pancakes and eggs at the same time. This one allows you to do that and add more if you want, because it has separate settings for the left and right sides. You can cook something on one side at one temperature and something else on the other side at a higher or lower temperature, which saves time and effort. This griddle is handy to cook on and easy to clean. I've had it for more than a year and if it ever breaks, I'll get another one just like it. I'm not the best cook in the world, but this grill makes it a lot harder to make mistakes.

There is a compartment at the bottom with a little pull handle. You just use their tool, so you don't ruin the surface, and move any left over food, grease, etc., toward the front, where it drops into a little trough, which you then pull out and empty and/or throw in the dishwasher. The splash-guards that surround the grill are also detachable and can be thrown in the dishwasher. They are easy to take off and put back on.

The griddle helps me to be a better cook and it's easy to clean. The what I would call 'spatter guard' just comes right off and goes in the dish washer or you can just wash it off with a cloth. This thing is so easy to clean!

It makes great hamburgers, even though it isn't a grill!

EDITED later to say that I still use it every day and still love it!

I thought this time it would be different. I was wrong. What was I thinking, to spend such a fortune on an electric griddle? Well, I was thinking I'd get a top of the line product, that's what. Unfortunately, what I got was a griddle that looked great and worked perfectly...for about six weeks. Then the knob to turn on the burner simply broke one day and I no longer had a griddle that functioned. Imagine my dismay when I called Amazon and they said the 30-day return policy had expired a mere two weeks earlier. When I was able to chat online with someone and explain my situation they were kind enough to allow me to return it for a refund. However, what that really meant was: 1. I no longer had a griddle, 2. because it was so large and I'd thrown out the box it came in I had to pay $22 for shipping materials(!), and 3. when I recieved confirmation on the refund I'd been charged $48 for a "restocking" fee. So I spent $70 to find out the All Clad griddles are certainly not worth the enormous price tag. Ouch!

This grill is a dream to use and clean. If you are an experieced cook you will love this! Just wipe it clean while it is still warm with a paper towel. Then damp cloth off when cool. It cooks to perfection. It heats up fast. It is a beauty to look at in the kitchen. You can feel the quality in the product! I got mine from Goldas Kitchen. It arrived in perfect condition. I am still cooking on this beauty. It is like having an outdoor BBQ inside. I use BBQ recipes on it. It works great. Jus tent the marinaded meat on the grill with foil..bast with extra sauce on each side and it is cooking. Comes out like off the outdoor BBQ. You won't go wrong with this...I live in a apartment so I can BBQ indoors on it! Every bit as good...if not better. BBQ afterall is about the marinade and sauces you put on the meat to creat the end result.

I enjoy All-Clad's quality cookware and I have their handsome slow-cooker but I have a passion for griddles and this one doesn't cut it. Non-stick is a non-durable finish. I have All-Clad non-stick and it's worthless after the first year. Non-stick Aluminum is a flimsy deal for $300. I can get a Presto grill like that for $30 which I won't mind tossing in a year or two. For $300, I would expect a griddle to be durable for many years. This one indicates it has "thermostats" but it's not clear whether it has thermostatic control. Most likely it cycles the heat on and off based on a timing switch just like the cheap ones -but if it doesn't, All-Clad isn't saying because they don't document this griddle on their website at all as of December 2009. Their electrics don't impress me as my slow-cooker boils everything on the low setting (We're at 5000 feet where water boils at about 200F). I have a feeling All-Clad's headed the way of Kitchen-Aide -once renowned for their mixers and now known for every piece of imported junk you can think of.

A quick look at shows that real thermostatic electric griddles with polished steel plates are a little pricier than All-Clad's mini griddle here. Why would they make world-class pans that nobody in the world would be ashamed to use but down-class their electrics to fit among the junk at the all-import stores?

Air King 20-Inch 2,140 CFM 3-Speed Box Fan #9723

I have just recently bought this fan, based on my experience with my old fan that had propeller blades identical to depicted on all published images associated with this fan model. This shape of the propeller (with blades similar to elephant ears) is contributing to higher airflow, at the same RPM, vs. shape of propeller with blade looking like rabbit ears, and which is lately used on majority of inexpensive box fans sold under brand names Lasko or others.

To my surprise, the fan that arrived per my order, while having on the box a correct model number and image as on this web page, has propeller identical to less expensive Lasko brand box fans.

In fact, Air King is subsidiary of Lasko, as I discovered while contacting the Air King.

In short, this fan went through a typical to current times "cost reduction reengineering" by someone who has no clue about air dynamics of propellers. As a result, the fan is noisier than before because it has to rotate faster, due to the new shape of its propeller blades, to produce a similar airflow, and is no different from all other box fans on the market, but is a twice as much expensive.

Do not waste your money. Note that I was told by customer service of the company that, from now on, this fan model will have the same propeller as supplied with Lasko brand fans. The company "didn't have a time" to replace this fan's marketing images. In addition, I found that warranty period on the fan has been reduced from 3 years to just 1 year.

I ordered this fan because the blades looked a little more like the old box fans that you used to be able to get 20 years ago. Back then the blades were wider and had a steeper pitch. When they said 20" they meant the diameter of the blade, not the size of the box.

Well I was partially right. Compared to the Lasko 3733 that I own and some unknown model of a Lakewood box fan with nearly identical blades as the Lasko, it moves a little more air and is a little quieter. Noise is hard to characterize. To me the Air King is quieter because the noise it makes is at lower frequencies and is easier to ignore -It's more of a "rumble" than the "buzz" you get from the Lasko and Lakewood.

Much of Air King's slight performance advantage is because it is a bigger fan. The Box is 21" and the blades are 20". The Lasko and Lakewood have 20" boxes and the blades are 19" Is it worth twice the price as the Lasko and Lakewood? Probably not, but there isn't much choice anymore. It looks like all these fans come from the same factory.

This fan had only worked for one season then it sparked and I can smell smoke the next summer. I was very disappointed that it broke and almost started a fire. I bought it because it looked like the old fans. I have the Haier box fan that also looks like the old ones. This fan used to work really well but it wasn't worth it.

This item is a real disappointment, at least for my application. I expected much better from the name. It simply does not move any large volume of air with its wimpy plastic blades, although it makes a lot of noise at medium and high speeds. Mine is mounted tightly in a window and is used as a whole-house exhaust fan (a standard window fan will not fit my tall, narrow, crank-open windows). This replaced a 47 year old 20" Toastmaster box fan (which finally died) which would pull the curtains well away from any open windows and created a very definite strong draft throughout my home, and was relatively quiet while doing it. Of course, it had a large-bladed metal fan. This Air King can barely rustle the curtains, creates a minor breeze, and sounds like a turboprop aircraft on a takeoff roll. I live where summers are very brief and uncomfortable heat only lasts two or three weeks so a more elaborate ventilation or cooling system is not justified. I had hoped this fan would be a good replacement for my old one but it has fallen far short and before next summer I will definitely have replaced it with something with metal blades instead of plastic. Perhaps this would be fine for just blowing air around a room but it is a real flop at being a true air mover. I contacted Air King about replacing the plastic fan with a metal one but they stated it definitely was not at all possible. Incidentally, free shipping from Amazon was very timely and I had the item via USPS in a matter of only a few days after ordering. Excellent service from Amazon.

Even though I purchased two of these fans a while ago, they are still working great! Much better than the Lasko's. They are more money, but sometimes itmes that cost more for one reason or another are the better bargain. The motor on this fan I find to be better because it is stronger than the Lasko's I had before. So of course I recommend this fan to others.

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Forged Stainless and Packwood Fish Spatula

This was bought for a gift and it exceeded our expectations! It is really big and will be great for more than just fish! It is very sturdy and well made.

Spatula arrived today, and it is certainly heavy duty. No doubt that it will do a great job turning fish, or other grill items such as two burgers at once, or pork tenderloins etc.

Finish leaves a bit to be desired, hence the three star review. Metal edges are a little rough, including through the handle. I'd be careful handling this tool in the wash (hand wash only). Made in China. No markings as to the grade of stainless steel.

Nordic Ware Microwave 10.5 Inch Spatter Cover

These covers are great! No more using plastic wrap, paper, or anything else to cover the food we microwave. Works on any size plate, and our dinner plates are large. There is plenty of room above the plate which is good, because we sometimes heat 2 plates of food on one plate, then split, so having the higher cover is much better. So far there are no negatives except for this, and it isn't really a negative it is a question:

I've been trying to find some documentation online relating to possible toxins in this type of plastic/polymer. So far I've been only able to find good things about polypropylene, but have not been able to find anything relating to microwaving it.

The previous 37 mostly positive reviews point out the advantages of this product (Nordic Microwave Splatter Cover #65000). However, none of these reviews mention whether the cover is free of BPA (bisphenol A) and melamine, which are compounds in plastics shown to have neurological toxicity and other potential negative effects on health (see Wikipedia). The labelling on the cover itself as well as on the paper sticker are silent in this regard. However, Nordic's website specifics that the cover (#65000) is indeed "BPA and melamine free."

Two other points: (1) The cover should be hand washed with hot soapy water. It may not be dishwasher safe. (2) The cover may be purchasable in your local hardware store (Ace) or department store (Target) for about half the Amazon price.

This large diameter cover works well on dinner plates and is easy to grasp for removal via the indented handle on top. The cover is vented, but not so much that all moisture escapes. This helps food remain moist during reheating, which I find enhances the quality of most things.

At approximately 3" high, it covers most things you'd be heating on a plate, and although it does cover a standard soup bowl, there is little or no room above the bowl, which is fine for soup, but not if the bowl is heaped with something.

When I purchased this cover, I also purchased the dome shaped cover, and actually like and use both. The dome cover is better for taller things, for example steaming vegetables in a serving bowl, but I can't remove it from the oven by the handle because it's so tall. It's not a big deal; I just have to use both hands to grasp it by the sides, but for standard plated fare, I find this cover easier.

Both covers are large and may not fit in a small oven, but certainly have improved the quality of my microwaved food now that I have a larger oven. They also reduce oven cleanup and are easy to rinse clean if they get splattered. I recommend them both, but I use this one the most.

Interestingly, the covers look like something that you'd normally find atop a fruit arrangement at your grocery store-and would throw away after eating the fruit. I know plastic is all The Big Scare these days with BPA just waiting to leach out and cause us all horrible, painful diseases. Relax, as a chemist, I can assure you that anything leached out of these containers will drip down the sides and all over your hands when you take the plate and cover out of the microwave. I'm serious about that-condensation does form and it is often very hot, so pot holders are in order. Anyone who has ever cleaned a microwave after a potato detonated, despite the potato being poked in several places, will appreciate these covers. The covers sit nicely on standard dinner plates. Good product.

I looked locally for some long fireplace and candle matches, without any luck. ( I remember finding these easily years ago). I was delighted when I found them on amazon.com and am very pleased with these matches. To me, they work much better than the extended bendable lighters.

These matches are great! The only thing that I don't like is that when the fire spreads along the stick, the part that's burned falls off onto the floor or wherever.
