Buy Bayou Classics Cast Iron Wok Now
I've wanted a cast iron wok that would work without a ring on an electric stove for years. After I managed to permanently damage the last non-stick one I had in less than 3 uses, I decided to get online and after much searching decided on this one. One concern that I had was size, most woks I was looking at were too large for my stove. Turns out this one has a larger profile than I thought it would, due to the handle. It also takes several minutes to warm up in part due to the heavy base. It also must been seasoned first. But once I got it seasoned, figured out that letting it heat up while I chopped the veggies and meat was the most efficient way to go, and that while it was something of a space hog on my small stove it really didn't matter after all, I was a happy wok user. Best part? Being heavy duty cast iron means it will never get heat damaged! I am only sorry I didn't get this sooner, it would have saved me the 40+ bucks I wasted on the one I got from the fancy cookware store that lasted less than a week before the non-stick coating started to peel off.I bought this a couple of months ago, and I have used it extensively. If taken care of properly, it should last quite a while. I have found that it works best if you heat it on the stove for 10-15 minutes before adding anything to it. Once it is hot, it stays hot. I have made several servings of stir-fry in one long cooking session, and the last one cooked just as well as the first. This wok is a nice size, very solid but not too heavy for cast iron. I find that the two handles make the wok quite manageable. The edges are somewhat rough, if not even sharp in certain areas. It did not arrive pre-seasoned as did some other cast iron pieces (of a different brand) that I have recently purchased.Thursday, July 24, 2014

Oregon Scientific AW129 Wireless BBQ Thermometer with Probe Thermometer and Remote
I compared to my Maverick thermometer, bought also on Amazon. It registered the correct 52 degrees.
I covet my meats done to perfection, and so far OS has not done the job. The Maverick dual senor thermometer has performed very well in my Weber grill and my Charbroil fryer. And yes, I know how to use digital, remote thermometers....lol.
For my money, try the Maverick.....good performer and does not give you wacko temp readings like BOTH of my OS did.

I purchased this product because we have a four-story house and I did not want to be stuck near the kitchen to hear the temperature gauge sound. The range on this product is exceptional. Being three floors away from the base unit was not too far for the receiving sensor; it still functioned as it was designed. I have also been outside the house in the yard and the sensor still worked appropriately.I use this product mostly in the oven. If takes the guess work out of large cuts of meat. The beef temperature that is preset is too high for my taste. But, I know this and just monitor the temperature and know that the alarm will not sound until the meat is overcooked, in my opinion.
As one of the other viewers indicated you do have to "synchronize" the base and receiving until by pressing the reset button on both items after installing the batteries and turning both products on. Check the directions, they spell out the process.
The belt clip and/or table stand is a nice feature of the product.
Another highly recommend product.after setting it up and reading the manual, i put it in some boiling water to check the calibration. it showed 188F, not a good sign. then i waited for it to cool off before plunging it into a glass of ice-cold water (water with lots of ice cubes, well-stirred and rested). the temperature came out to be 67F. my room temperature is at 70F, and this thermometer showed 92F. i was hoping at least that if it's off, it's off consistently so that i could still use it with some simple arithmetic, but the readings are almost completely erratic. what a piece of junk.

I used this once or twice, and the next time I went to use it, it didn't work (I believe the part without the screen stopped turning on). Hoping that it was a lone defective model, I exchanged it for a new one, which worked for perhaps a year.My house has thick plaster walls, so the reception wasn't the greatest from one floor up, but when it lost signal, I'd move it and it would eventually start working again. I used it inside, not outside, and treated it carefully. Leaving it on the 135 degree setting causes it to beep at 130, which is when I'll take a pork roast out of the oven. For beef, I'd prefer about 120, so I try to keep an eye on the display.
A week or two ago, I realized that the temperature of a roast seemed low, so I went to check with a second thermometer. It read 130, but the wireless said it was 75... and as I watched over the course of a few seconds, 75 changed to 78, then 71, then 89, then 65... I tried changing the batteries, resetting both units, etc., but nothing helped.
I cannot recommend a product with such a short life span. While this is the only wireless model I've tried, we've also had Polder models with a wired probe and digital readout, and they, too, have failed quickly. It is obvious that most of these thermometers are manufactured by the same place and rebranded -this Oregon Scientific model looks identical to a Weber, for example -so I'll now be shopping for ones made by different companies, with different displays and form factors.

Paderno World Cuisine 18.5 Inch Polished Carbon Steel Paella Pan
I said yes, except for one thing, the list of guests between friends and family went up to about 24 people, and I only have a paella pan which only serves 10. One paella pan was not going to do the job for this birthday dinner. So I scramble online in search of an additional pan to be able to make enough paella for everyone. This new paella pan I bought is much better that the one I've had for years, and it did the job wonderfully. The paella cooked well and displayed beautifully. The pan size is just perfect to serve 12 people or more, you can cook about 4 to 5 cups of rice easily, along with all your vegetables, party size chicken drumsticks, pork, shrimp and mussels. It all fits great! Everyone enjoyed dinner and I was a happy camper. :-)
I highly recommend this product.
Have fun making your paella and enjoy your new paella pan if you decide to buy it.This pan cuts the mustard test. It's been used on weber bbq grills and my home range. The paella that I make consists of 25+ ingredients and is intended to feed a voracious audience.
I bought this knowing well that my friends may have high standards. That's fine with me. Paella should be celebrated amongst friends and strangers.
I've used this pan sparingly, since the size is so darn big. But, I recommend it if your entertaining a lot of guests and expect a few others to bring some extra dishes for others to munch on while this is being prepared.
One thing to note when feeding an army. Cut your protein in smaller 'bite' size pieces and let all your fatty goodness/meats do their thing.
Here's a list of standard paella ingredients.
Oil/Butter, onion, peppers, garlic, roasted Peppers, tomatoes (use cheese graters), roasted peppers, string beans, pimenton, paprika, chorizo (thinner is better), chicken, fish, clams, muscles, shrimp, scallops, (if fancy, lobster, prawns, jumbo shrimp) parsley, salt, pepper, clam juice, broth (cheaper to use the stuff in cubes/base vs. cartons), saffron (use pestel and mortar), lemon and alioli.
Expect longer cook times if using medley of seafood from frozen.
Expect hungry guests if the expectation is known that paella is on the menu. Watch Alton Brown and youtube clips of how traditional paella is made and as Chef John (food wishes) closes each video, 'ENJOY".
Made with love and prepped primarily the day before saves a lot of energy when the dish comes together.
P.s. Pass on 'seasoning' the pan. I wash and store when not used because I'm making this dish twice a year at most.

I love this paella pan. It's got plenty of room and handles heat evenly. Very sturdy on the stove top and even fits in the oven. Keep in mind it's 18.5 inches. My first thought was that I could fit a hippo in it! If you would like a smaller pan, they are out there, but since I am cooking for a crowd or for the week, I love the larger size.Want Paderno World Cuisine 18.5 Inch Polished Carbon Steel Paella Pan Discount?
This is a beautiful pan. Be aware that the pan will rust if you don't season it with oil. It works beautifully on top of an electric stove, conducting the heat very well. This is a very large pan and may not fit in smaller ovens. For sure it does not fit in a 30inch oven.Wednesday, April 9, 2014
Paderno World Cuisine 14-Inch Steel Tawa Pan
The adhesive tags on my tawa pan show both numbers; one 14" and one 11". But the measurement is 11", the handle doesn't enter into the measurement as it is quite long.
I forgot to add that although the description for this pan says, "flat," though that may be no fault of the seller for their description, the pan is a CONCAVE tawa-tava griddle, and the pictured product is fitting.I bought this to make 14 inch Dahl Puri roti. I was very disappointed because this is just slightly bigger than my 10 inch griddle cast iron pan. If I could return this product I would. I don't even like the way it cooks. If you are desperate and don't have an alternative then, by all means, buy this product and see for yourself. You my have to go to Guyana or Trinidad and bring one back in your suit case, or buy it for $125 on a caribbean site on-line.

Weber 6405 All-Purpose Kabob Set
My son used wooden skewers, which burnt, shriveled, hard to remove, etc.
Found this product...very good, mainly because of the metal skewers and stand, which keeps the food off the grill. Also, the skewers are not round, but retangular, which keeps food from rotating when you turn them over. The skewers have a nice round circle at the end, easy for rotating.
Also, when you bring them in, they cool quickly, so we were able to pick them up without gloves, napkins, etc. Good product, good price, go for it!
Buy Weber 6405 All-Purpose Kabob Set Now
I really like making vegetable kabobs on the grill to accompany my summer meals, but I really don't like trying to pinch hold of and rotate round skewers to grill foods evenly, especially when the maneuver makes some of the more tender ones (cherry tomatoes, for example) fall right off. Although wooden skewers are relatively inexpensive, it also feels wasteful to throw away charred skewers after every use. The Weber Kabob Set made it onto my wish list pretty quickly, and made it onto my grill not long after that. The skewers are rectangular instead of round, so any combination of foods stays on easily and can be turned readily. The big, round ends are easy to grasp with a grill mitt or tongs. The skewers are thicker than typical wooden ones, so you have to give some thought to how small you cut your vegetables, but their size and sturdiness makes them ideal for meats. The rack is handy not only for grilling (although the skewers can be laid directly on the grate, if you like), but also for holding the kabobs when they come off the grill.
I have several of the Weber grill accessories, but the kabob set is the one that stays in heaviest rotation all summer long. Well...on second thought, maybe the char baskets Weber-Stephen 7403 Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders, but when it comes to the food, itself, the kabob set is definitely the front runner!

Good quality, nice weight but be sure to clean the skewers thoroughly with soap and water and also a scouring pad before using. There was some grease on them perhaps from being "machined". It fits perfectly on my Weber Q100 grill.Want Weber 6405 All-Purpose Kabob Set Discount?
Based on the reviews I had hoped this would work well on my Weber gas grill. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Although well made, when loaded with meat and vegetables, the rack isn't wide or high enough to prevent contact with adjacent skewers or the grill surface.Unless you load very small pieces of food the lack of clearance is a big problem. The solution of course is to jettison the rack and lay the skewers directly on the grill. Works much better but I could have accomplished this more cheaply.

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Signature Stainless Steel Grilling Kabob Skewers, Set of 2 (17 x .
;)The line of Raichlen skewers are all very well built using all stainless steel and somehow the handles stay reasonably cool when you are using them on the grill. One potential problem with this size is that they are HUGE, I'm often searching for things to skewer with them due to their size, some of the smaller widths are much better for most applications.I searched for the flat style Skewer for the Kofta style (ground meat) Middle Eastern Kababs. To say I am extremely satisfied with these would be an understatement. The meat does not roll or fall off of the skewer. The skewer for perfect Chele Kababs. The broad area of the skewer transfers heat to the inside of the meat for an evenly cooked Kabab. This is a great product. Steel is good quality. The ends are well formed to avoid getting hot while on grill. Very happy with Price Vs Quality. Couldn't be better. Would recommend it.

Cuisinart CBO-1000 Oven Central Countertop Oven, Brushed Stainless
However, I have one complaint and it's significant. The knob on the right that turns the unit on and also serves as a timer seems to have melted so that it no longer engages the stem. I can do all the same functions by sticking a screwdriver into a slot in the stem and twisting, but I definitely have a product that failed on the third round of cooking.
I hope Cuisinart will consider this problem and provide purchasers with knobs that don't succumb to the heat. I am in no way recommending that consumers substitute a screwdriver for the knob. IT MIGHT BE DANGEROUS. Consumers shouldn't have to jury-rig a device that costs $129 and fails in three rounds of cooking.
I'd give this four or maybe five stars if the knob hadn't failed.
I purchased this through Amazon.
---
I called Cuisinart'ss telephone support line and the customer service representative abruptly hung up on me. The serial number on the product is very difficult to read. I was trying to give her the serial number when cut me off. I hope this is not a reflection on the company's products and customer care.my wife prefers this oven above all of her other cooking devices.
