Takoyaki Pan #H5180

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)Beggars can't be choosers, and that seems to be true for takoyaki in the US. The delightful Osaka treat is rare enough even at Japanese restaurants, and the necessary implements for making it at home are even more so.

The absolute best set up is a round takoyaki pan, either on a gas or electric portable grill. Much of the fun of takoyaki comes from everyone sitting around the table and cooking together, putting in your favorite ingredients and popping the little balls out then eating them hot and fresh. That is how it is done in Japan, and home-cooking takoyaki isn't meant to be the province of a lone cook standing over a stove while everyone waits patiently for the food. It is a communal experience.

However, true takoyaki cookers are not readily available, and this pan is better than nothing. It doesn't take much, just a pan with round indents in it heavy enough to rest on the range while the balls are flipped over using long toothpicks. It isn't really designed to work with electric ranges, as they are pretty rare in Japan, but it does the trick. I don't recommend using the included steel pick, as it will scratch your pan and conduct heat while doing the flipping.

this is a pretty good item. comes in nice box, kinda heavy though, but one of the old fashion iron pans that make food taste great!

I always wanted to try takoyaki, make it myself you know. With this Takoyaki Pan I could. As the first reviewer said, it is heavy, but it's not bad. The Pan itself is big enouf to fit on a small burner on the stove. When I first opened it I was surprise how big the semi-spheres where, just good enouf to make the perfect size octopuss ball. Plus it comes with a pick, and a brush to oil the pan, cause it's not stick proof.

So anyway, it's a good product and all.

Product shipped fast! A little smaller than I was expecting but it's nice not to have to store a big, heavy pan. The pan is approximately 8X8" with a handle that unscrews for compact storage. I am using a gas stove and I find the heat distribution is uneven...The middle sections cook much faster than the holes in the periphery. So it is a bit of a balancing act to get them all cooked right (but it is do-able). I am sure if you had a different heat source you may have better luck heating the pan evenly. I would recommend "seasoning" the pan before use. It is relatively nonstick but I use mine to make Ebelskivers and I always spray butter into each hole before pouring the batter. LOVE the turning stick it comes with. Works like a charm. All in all I'd say it was a decent purchase.

One would think that a dough scraper is not all that exciting. Well they're not really, I've lived without one all these years. I purchased this on a whim and I am SO glad that I did. It is worth much more than I paid for it, in my opinion. The scraper is very nice to look at, sturdy, well-made, and very helpful for scraping sticky dough off the counter without scratching it. I use the scraper mostly for bread preparation and cleanup. It works like a jewel dividing dough and scraping dough off the board afterward. Probably won't do pizza dough for a week or two, but look forward to using the scraper and the peel I bought at same time.

Nordic Ware Compact Ovenware Baking Sheet

The coating does not last extremely poor durability. I've been very careful with this pan, using only wood or plastic utensils and washing by hand only. Didn't matter within just a few uses, the coating flaked off and the edges on the underside are rusting. Waste of money!

I've had this product for about two months, and despite being hand-washed the coating has already begun flaking off.

I received two of these baking sheets for Christmas last year; by March, 1/3 of the teflon was gone in spots. By July, it was coming off in sheets when washed. These Never went through the dishwasher; always hand washed. I threw them away and purchased Baker's Secret which seems to be satisfactory so far.

Like other reviewers, I have this product and it began flaking fairly soon. I do not wash it in the dishwasher, it is handwashed only. Once it begins flaking, it continues flaking pretty rapidly. Try another brand.

UPDATE: April, 2008. I've been using the Duncan Hines branded nonstick toaster oven pan for about a year now and it has performed flawlessly. A much better choice.

The cooker works great. I purchased for use primarily as a tabletop boiling pot for sate', but with the adjustable heating it works great as a warming pot, simmer pot, steamer, and a variety of other dishes. The power cord is a little short for the table top cooking, but is perfect lenght if the cooker is on the countertop. The plastic bottom is a little flimsy, but as long as it isn't dropped, works well. Good cooker at a good price.

I purchased this a year ago and I love it!!!

So far I haven't used the grill yet but the pot is amazing and easy to clean.

I wanted a cooker that could do everything; stir-fry, slow cook, grill, steam etc. I planned to use it instead of my range. This almost fits the bill. It is a bit pricey but you would have to purchase 3-4 appliances to do all these types of cooking and then have a lot of clutter on your counter. There is a large deep cooking pot and a grill that fit the heating element base(also a steamer rack) . The fact that you can remove these and wash them is great. If you just want to fill the pot and cook it is wonderful. You can adjust the temperature for a wide range of cooking. The only issue is that the bottom of the cooking pot is slightly domed in the center (I have no idea why.). A small amount of water or oil drains to the edges. That means you can't cook an omelet, egg, pancakes, and other items that you want to cook in the center of the pan.

Outset F240 Leather Grill Apron

Good quality leather and stitching. I have never had a hot coal land on my chest; but if it were to happen, I would feel protected in this leather apron. Also protects my clothing from spills and has 2 nice deep pockets. It's not as heavy as it appears, so it's not a burden to wear it for a while.

I did not have an issue with the lower strap. I tie it in a loose square knot, which holds well and is not too difficult to untie to take off.

The top strap took a few minutes to figure out, but it has held ever since I got it tight. I just leave that one tied, and slip it on and off over my head.

I actually like the look and feel of the straps, but the loops for the top do leave something to be desired. Still, I was able to get it tied within just a few minutes and everything else about this apron more than makes up for that.

I own this device and I have a charcoal grill on my patio. Now I can put my "beer can chicken" on the grill for "about an hour" and know when the temperature gets within 20 degrees, then 10 degrees, the exactly at the target temperature of 165 in the breast meat. Love it. However, it is $16 cheaper at Target.com

The interface of the main unit is nice and intuitive. I had no problems figuring out how to use the features. The remote is somewhat irritating with the warning beeps at 20 degrees and 10 degrees from target. Especially when slow cooking where the temp may fluctuate a bit resulting in repeated warnings every time the temp crosses one of these thresholds.

My main complaint is the probe. At least I'm assuming it's the probe. I've used similar probe thermometers for years, so I am aware how careful you have to be with the probes. I treated this one with kid gloves, never letting the cord crimp or get any moisture anywhere near where the wire enters the metal probe. Yet after only one use, the temp now reads 275F in the air. The thermometer is now of no use to me other than as a clock.

This seems to do a decent job. In fact, it's entertaining. I already own a Taylor, unit sans the pager, for our indoor oven. It's provided years of service. I look for Taylor products after a pleasant experience with their customer service a few years ago. As for this unit, it's a real hoot when the pager goes off to let you know the food is done. Do not limit it's use to meat. You can cook potatoes, soup, a loaf of bread and even a cake in a barbecue so long as it is properly covered and the heat evenly distributed. 350 degrees of heat is the same whether it comes from a home oven or a barbecue.

Perhaps it is simply that seven dollars seems excessive for fifty matches, even if the package is nicely printed (the box itself is sorta cheap -the tray is utterly insubstantial). But 50 is what you get. That's 14¢ per match. You're better off getting a box of Diamond strike-anywhere kitchen matches. You get 250 of those for much less money.

This is a sweet looking match box, but I would say it is a bit over priced. Consider what you are getting: a box of matches.

Stansport Outdoor 267 Non-Stick Aluminum Camp Stove Griddle

I bought this to use with the Stansport Outfitter Series 50,000 BTU Output Propane Stove. For that purpose, it was not the best choice, because it is too narrow to fit over both burners simultaneously. The burners on the stove are very widely placed as well, which means that the middle of the griddle (aluminum, so it doesn't get hot everywhere, mostly just right under the flames,) cannot fry pancakes. I found the website confusing when I was looking for the right griddle to buy, so I feel like that was mostly Stansport's fault. Also, it came to me with one of the side handles bent, like someone had twisted it somehow. That just screamed SHODDY. At this point, this thing would have gotten 3 stars.

BUT, I mainly got this griddle because it's nonstick and we cook entirely without oil in our house. I was able to grill pancakes on this with ZERO sticking, just like on my expensive French non-stick crepe pan at home. I was even able to flip them with a serving spoon that's slightly shovel-shaped, since I forgot my spatula on our last camping trip. So for that, this bad boy gets one of its stars back. If it were just a little bigger, I'd give it 5, but for someone with a smaller stove than mine, this thing is a great choice for oil-free frying!

Great light weight sturdy stand for your Cuisinart grill. We are traveling in an RV full-time, and this is just what I needed. This fits the grill perfectly, it is sturdy and easy to assemble. I do need to use a pair of pliers to squeeze locking tabs, and a small screw driver to push locking balls in when disassembling the stand for moving. The tabs are too stiff to depress with your fingers, other than that, it's a very convenient stand for grilling and traveling.

This is no fault of the product, it just does not hold my grill. I am sure it does a great job for those who have a grill it can accomodate.
