Babycakes DN-6 Mini Doughnut Maker, Yellow, 6 Donut

Babycakes DN-6 Mini Doughnut Maker, Yellow, 6 DonutJust purchased my donut maker a couple of days ago and love it. Definitely use a ziploc bag and notch one of the corners out to fill each donut holder (like a pastry bag). Do not try to measure the 2 T. they recommend. Fill each up but do not overfill (just below the edge about 1/4 or so from the top works). I sprayed the unit with cooking spray like "Pam" after each batch and used a wooden chopstick to remove the donut after cooking. The metal fork that comes with it could scratch the unit. The recipes that came with the instructions are okay. The spice one is the best. If using a box mix the donuts are too light and fluffy but they come out looking great with some icing and sprinkles. A simple recipe I use for plain donuts is: 1c. flour, 1t. baking powder, 1/2t. salt, 2 eggs, 2/3c. sugar, 1/4c. milk. Combine ingredients and beat 1 minute with electric mixer. Put in ziploc bag and you're ready to make donuts. I used the Vanilla Frosting recipe in the instruction booklet and added 1T. pureed strawberries to it yummy!! Frost when they are semi-warm not hot! Makes 24. My donuts cooked in 2 minutes so watch them closely. One side of donut is lighter than the other but if you're frosting it you won't notice. The unit cleans up nicely, when cool I just wipe with a towel.

I got this for Christmas and it has been so much fun so far! I tried using a cupcake recipe the first time which eneded up rather unappealing. The second batch I used the Sour Cream Donut recipe from the box and it was perfect! The donuts were light and fluffy with a light brown crust on top and bottom. I actually took the whole kit to work and made them for my coworkers. It's rather hard to spoon the batter in so I put all the batter in a ziplock bag and cut off a corner and piped the batter into the donut maker. It was perfect and my coworkers loved it! If you toss them in powdered sugar or a cinnamon and sugar mixture while they are still hot they coat perfectly. I had no problems getting mine to unstick from the machine and I only sprayed once before starting and maybe every 5-6 batches. I also frosted some of them and found that if you just heat regular Betty Crocker frosting and dip the donuts in it, they glaze quite nicely. I also had fun piping the frosting on in fun patterns. All in all, a very fun little product and after taking it to work all my coworkers are wanting one as well.

I didn't plan to buy this, but found it on sale and thought it would be fun to try. This little gadget did not disappoint. First I tried the basic recipe in the instruction manual. The little donuts were ready in 5 minutes and tasted delicious. I topped them with some chocolate glaze (Duncan Hines Amazing Glazes work well). I googled and found some healthy recipes online.

The easiest way to make the donuts is to get a DUncan Hines cake mix and cut back on all the liquids only add 1 cup of water (rather than 1 1/3), 1/4 cup of oil (rather than 1/3) and 1 egg (instead of 3). Mix well and pour it into a sturdy ziploc bag. Cut off one corner (very small corner!). Spray the donut holes with cooking spray and squezze in enough batter to fill the bottom half. Close the lid and cook for 5-6 minutes. One Duncan Hines mix will make about 3 dozen donuts. Once you get the timing down, they come out perfect every time.

The unit heats up very quickly, and I wouldn't let small children play with it. This is NOT a toy, it is not made for kids. It is an appliance for adults to use. And it's very handy. Homemade donuts in 5 minutes. Tasty treats for all!

We had an old Daisy Donut Machine when I was a little girl in the 70's. I wasn't sure this little machine had the quality to produce good results, but I was pleasantly surprised. The non-stick finish is excellent, so the donuts are easy to remove after baking. The ready light is very handy. The unit is small but makes six donuts at a time, so it doesn't take long to produce lots of yummy donuts (ours cooked in about 3 1/2 minutes per batch.) The helpful tip to put the batter in a Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off worked great.

It has been a lot of fun to make cute little donuts with this item. Even my kids can do it. Obviously they are not going to have the flavor or texture of a fried donut--it is more muffin or waffle like. I am testing different recipes, but it is lots of fun.

Splash-Proof Super-Fast Thermapen - Instant Read Thermometer, Perfect for Barbecue, Home and Profes

Splash-Proof Super-Fast Thermapen Instant Read Thermometer, Perfect for Barbecue, Home and Professional CookingI've tried other thermometers, but got frustrated waiting endlessly while they slowly ticked upward. I don't have that problem with the Thermapen. With the others, I spent too much time with my head in the oven (and the heat getting out) and it finally occurred to me that I'd be better off paying for a really good FAST thermometer that would work in a variety of settings. I bake bread and like to check the internal temperature of large loaves to ensure proper doneness, but don't much want a big hole in the bottom. The probe on the Thermapen is very slender so the hole is significantly smaller than when I've used the others.

Another thing I like is that when you open the Thermapen, it's instant on, close it and it's off. The changeable battery is easily accessible when, and if, you need to change it, ensuring a very long life.

One bonus for me is that I may be cooking a single serving of something so there isn't much space to insert a thermometer. The sensor in this probe is quite near the end so you don't have to insert it very far to get a good reading. The only thing I don't like is that being left-handed, the display is on the wrong side for me, so I have to consciously think to hold it in my right hand in order to read it.

I ended up with my multitude of probe thermometers because none of them really did the job satisfactorily. Happily, this thermometer is really effective. While I don't plan to get it wet, who knows, the kitchen is a volatile place, so I decided to spend a little more for the water resistant version to ensure that wouldn't be a problem. It doesn't clip on to a pan so doesn't work for candy, but I've used it for just about everything else and am very satisfied.

I have the prior model but the comments still apply.

Very simply, there are two things to say about the Thermapen.

1. A hundred bucks for a thermometer?!

2. It's the best kitchen thermometer, with no competition.

So, yes, $100 means that you need to be a serious cook to need this. If you're not, there are perfectly able "instant-read" thermometers for $10-20 and you should get one of those, try it in boiling water to confirm that it's accurate (it probably will be) and use it. It will be perfectly fine.

But if you are a serious cook, you will appreciate that instant read for this product means under ten seconds (I think the new model is faster) but for the $15 ones, it means more like 30.

This product is fast, dead-accurate, and has a tiny probe that lets you take pinpoint readings.

You don't HAVE to have this. Unless you're like me, and you HAVE to have it.

Buy Splash-Proof Super-Fast Thermapen - Instant Read Thermometer, Perfect for Barbecue, Home and Profes Now

This is without a doubt the best instant read thermometer I have ever used. It is FAST, only 3 4 seconds, and extremely accurate. This is a large device and the display is big, easy to read numbers. The sensor probe is the longest I've seen and the temperature sensor is in the very tip of the probe. Plus the new splash proof design takes the worry out of getting it wet. I highly recommend the Thermapen to any serious cook who wants the best.

I bought one of these just over a year ago now. My wife thought I was nuts when she found out how much it was. I have to say I am SERIOUSLY impressed no waiting on temperature reads. Stick it in and "BAM!" it tells you in under a second what the temp. is. I've used it for making mochas/lattes, meats on the grill, breads, just about anything I can poke with it.

Well worth the money.

Chef's Design Reversible Hard-Coat Anodized Double Burner Grill/Griddle

Chef's Design Reversible Hard-Coat Anodized Double Burner Grill/GriddleI bought this griddle over 8 years ago for $39. It has been very useful with my electric stove for making many pancakes, burgers, grilled cheese, etc. I can cook 5-6 pancakes at a time, burgers & buns together, 4 grilled cheese sandwiches. Unlike the non-stick model 3560 also listed on this site, you can use this over high heat without any damage to it. Unlike the other review, I don't find it hard to clean. Over time, it retains some darkness of color (reminds me of cast iron), but it is not as heavy nor do you have the rust issues. Cleanup is easy with my blue Scotch-Brite multi-purpose scrub sponge. I'm planning on buying one for my sister and was delighted to find the same griddle available.

it does seem like it's made to last. It has more of a cast iron feel to it than my old nonstick grill. I was looking for one that wasn't going to flake or peel and liked the idea of it being double sided. I didn't have an indoor grill before this. At first it didn't seem to work well because my pancakes stuck a little and were not browning the same way the did on the nonstick, but then I adjusted how much cooking spray I used and made sure I preheated it very well before putting the batter on and they came out better. I've only cooked hotdogs on the grill side but they came out fine. It's heavy and needs to cool down before moving to the sink for cleanup, but that's expected.

I love this griddle. I've had it 2 months now and I use it nearly everyday for everything from breakfast to dinner. Food cooks quickly and evenly, leaving those great grill marks. It's light weight, sturdy and easy to clean. It's also beginning to take on that lovely black patina like cast iron. It's one of the best cookware purchases I've ever made.

I've used this griddle 3 times now since ordering it earlier in the summer. I've cooked chicken breasts, hamburgers, and pancakes on it and they've all turned out spectacular! The trick is to make sure the heat is low to medium; do not crank up the heat.

Also, the griddle has to be cooled off before cleaning. So far, I haven't had a problem with the clean-up. It's a bit heavy to handle at the sink, but that is expected.

It's my first stop-top griddle and I am very happy with it!!

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box

Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker BoxI'm a Texan (Texaswomyn, right?) so I love smoked meat. Brisket, chicken, ribs, pork chops, beef roast, etc. We've got smokers: two big 'ole charcoal smokers, a big 'ole propane/electric smoker, and I've even got one of them Cameron stove top smokers, (I'm gonna drop the bad grammar now) so I was quite curious about this smoker accessory. First off, it's small. I mean, Rhode Island small. It's about 6 inches long, 3 inches wide and maybe 1.5 inches tall, so the wood you use to smoke with has to be chipped up very small and it doesn't hold a lot; I didn't weigh or measure what it holds but it's probably not over a cup of chips. One big problem is that small quantity of wood doesn't last long enough to provide a good "smoke" flavor and create that highly desired smoke ring on meat.

If your only desire is for a hint of smoke to mask the charcoal (and heaven forbid charcoal lighter fluid) taste from your grilled steak or chicken breast, then this little box will do that, to a small degree. Be sure you soak the wood first so it lasts a little longer and smokes a little more.

And hey, Rhode Island no offense, OK ya'll?

I finally got a chance to use this, and well, this is one of those products that you don't really need. For the amount of smoke flavor that it puts out, soaked wood chips wrapped in a piece of aluminum foil will work just as well. It's a cute little box that holds a small amount of wood chips and delivers an equally small amount of smoke. If you just like to have gadgets and cool looking tools then this will fit the bill. Otherwise, save your money and invest in a roll of heavy duty aluminum foil to fashion your own smoker box and call it a day.

By the way, the lid is sort of hard to get off, and I broke a nail in the process.

Buy Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box Now

Good little smoker for burgers or hotdogs. Don't expect this to make large portions of meat taste smokey. It produces a moderate amount of smoke but is no substitute for a real smoker. Not a bad buy for the price. Adds extra flavor to burgers, steaks, and hotdogs.

Read Best Reviews of Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box Here

I already have a bigger box-style smoker already. I also have the Cameron stove top smoker. This "Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box" is kind of small, about you palm size.

However, it's a really well constructed little box...a little bit on the elegant side. Specifically, there is no sharp edge or sharp corner that could be scratch your skin. The holes on the top and bottom are on the smaller size too.

Due to the small size, it won't hold big amount of wood chips. Be expecting to refill wood chips for long cooking.

The cover is a little tight and hard to open and close. I believe the intent is to make sure the cover does not open if you throw it into the charcol. For my big smoker box, I have to carefully lay it down in the grill to keep the cover close.

While trying to refill wood chips during cooking, I put the box in water to cool it down first and then open it safely. This extra step does not add too much hassle, as the bucket for soaking wood chips is usually nearby.

I wouldn't recommend to put smoker box (any smoker box) right on top of the charcoal, as the wood chips will burn out too fast and don't have sufficient time to smoke the food and you will be busy in refilling wood chips.

All in all, a well made nice little smoker box.

Want Tom Douglas by Pinzon Metal Grill Smoker Box Discount?

This is a nicely constructed box--sturdy and easy to open and close--but I found it too small to add much smoke flavor to my grilling. I used it on top of the grates, with the lid closed. I think, though, that using some aluminum foil would do just as good of a job, and you could just throw it out after use.

Heatwave Fire Pit Cover

Heatwave Fire Pit CoverBought the Heatwave fire pit and realized I needed a cover for it. I did some searching and found the cover on Amazon at the lowest price.

Nice cover for the outdoor firepit. It is made of durable material and fits the firepit well. I would recommend having one because it is practical and attractive for storage of the firepit.

I almost didn't purchase this cover after reading some of the reviews of how it was nothing more than a trash

bag slipped over the pit! This is totally incorrect information!

I shopped around I even bought a couple one at Home Depot that I thought for sure would fit! Nope

I purchased this cover and it's perfect! It's heavy weight, it has a draw string on the bottom and keeps

my pit totally covered!

One suggestion though, do not pull it down real snug, because after the sun and elements loosen it up

a bit, I found it was kind of stretching across the handle on top of the cover. All I did was give it a little more

room, and whalaaaa it's perfect! You won't go wrong with this cover!!

George Foreman GP200 George 2Go Portable Propane Grill and GriddleGreat compact grill for carrying in RV. Takes little space. Cleans easy. Suits our needs perfectly. Great price!

This grill was well worth the money. I use it for tailgatting and camping and it works really well. It cooks evenly and the clean up is so much easier than a grill with the wire grill top. It is so convienent to carry and store vs the big bulky units. Just remember that it doesn't have a lid to shut when it is in use. I wished it had a lid to keep the heat in but that would be my only negative comment and it seems to work just fine without.

CucinaPro 1654 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet Non-Stick Interior

CucinaPro 1653 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet 12 Inch - Non-Stick InteriorWe had an older Waring electric skillet that was losing it's non-stick coating and needed replacement. This thing is in a whole different category. Much larger and does a much better job of maintaining a constant temperature. The construction is very high quality. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This fry pan is by far the best i have ever owned. Solid construction, even heating and the quality is second to none. A bit pricey but i guess you get what you pay for. If i could i would give this product a 10. A must by for people who like cooking with an electric skillet. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

My husband and I received the 16 inch skillet as a wedding gift 8 years ago. We hadn't registered for it and thought that it was too large to store and wouldn't be used very often. We were wrong. This is one of the appliances that we would never give up. It still cooks evenly and the non-stick is still perfect. It is large enough to make full breakfast for our family of four. I am confident that it will hold up for years to come and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality skillet.

Sunpentown ST-360 1200-Watt 4-1/2-Liter Cooker with Shabu-Shabu Pot and Grill pan

Sunpentown ST-360 1200-Watt 4-1/2-Liter Cooker with Shabu-Shabu Pot and Grill panI decided to buy this instead of an electric wok, so happy I did. This does everything from steaming vegetables to boiling water for pasta. We are using this more than the stove top. Very easy to clean, which is always a plus. In the picture it looks like the pan is similar to a grill, however both pans we received had flat bottoms. Don't bother reading directions as they can be confusing, something must have been lost in the translation. Just figure it out on your own.

The slider for the temperature control did not work properly. There is no resistance to the adjustment until you get to a particular point so a large range of the temperature is not possible.

Weber 1201 Tool Holder

Weber 1201 Tool HolderThe tool holder works perfect on my grill. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about how the thing will fall off or it will prevent the lid from sealing. I see how this can be true, however if you can spare about 3 minutes and have ordinary pliers ready that can be solved.

I put the holder on the grill, bent the prongs around the lip of it and have had no problems since. It doesn't move, slide, or fall off and the bent prongs allow the top to close with ease. I don't even have a weber grill, I own a char-broil. If you seriously don't have the capacity to bend a little bit of metal then don't buy it. For the rest of you spened the 4 dollars.

Now that I finally bought my new Weber grill (One-Touch Silver) and some new Weber tools, I needed something to hold them. I didn't want to hang them on one of my other crappy grills, so I went ahead and bought this handy tool holder.

Now, I have read previous reviews on this and people have said that they couldn't get their lid to close, or that the tool holder would fall off. Well, it doesn't take much creativity to realize that you can pinch the tool holder onto your grill with a simple set of pliers. This will take care of both problems.

I highly recommend this simple-yet-handy gadget to anyone with a Weber One-Touch grill (except for maybe the One-Touch Platinum, since it has everything you need). It is very easy to use, your lid will still close and you grill-cover will still fit =)

I had no problem with this tool holder. I put it on once and it's still hangin' in there. It makes it very convienient to reach for what you need while grillin'. However, if you do find that it comes off when you take the top off, just pinch it tight with a pair of pliers! Happy grillin' people!!!

Solid construction, can be installed and removed easily. If you have large tools you may find the hooks are close together and the tools may overlap. CHARCOAL DISPENSER

CHARCOAL DISPENSERI use one of these bins for the dog food and one for charcoal storage outside. The charcoal one stays outside throughout the year as I grill no matter the weather. I've only had to replace the outside one once in 8 years. That's pretty good considering the winters in the northeast. This is a great size well built storage container.

I ordered two of these containers to store guinea pig bedding (aspen wood shavings) and liked the idea of the flip top lid and the handle on the back. However, they are smaller than I expected. Specs were listed as 20"H x 10"W x 19"D. What they don't tell you is that this 20" height includes the top of the lid and riser feet on the bottom. The depth includes a very large handle. Also, if you are trying to imagine the size, the box tapers both in width and in depth. So, in short, if I was describing this item, I would average the storable dimensions to be 18"H x 7.5"W x 14"D. The box these two arrived in was huge: 39" x 22" X 16" and the kids are having fun playing in it.

Camp Chef Professional Steel Griddle

Camp Chef SG90 Deluxe steel fry griddleThis griddle is heavy 3/16" steel. It functions much like a good carbon steel fry pan, such as an expensive De Buyer professional skillet FANTASTIC cooking properties and easy care. Ignore the 3-star reviewer who says the griddle needs cleaning with soap and water apparently they do not understand how a steel griddle works. It rarely needs any cleaning, but when it does just heat some hot water on it (or pour hot water) and scrub gently with a brush or scotch brite gentle "blue" pad (no soap please, or you may ruin the non-stick properties and thus require re-seasoning of the surface). Steel wool or more aggressive pads will remove the seasoning. Scrape off any stuck on bits with a steel spatula no worries regarding scratching, another great feature! I keep a blue scotch brite in my griddle bag with all soap removed from it. Between uses you will want to clean any potentially rancid oil off of the surface using the same technique.

I took this camping recently and right out of the box it functioned flawlessy. It comes pre-seasoned, but to make sure I had no sticking on the first use I just heated up some oil, let the griddle cool, wiped it off with a folded paper towel, then reheated it (this step was probably not even necessary out of the box it probably would work fine). I then cooked typical breakfast fare (pancakes and fried eggs) completely non-stick. I also like to keep a spray can of high-heat canola oil nearby if I am worried about sticking just spray a tiny amount of the high heat canola oil and wipe it over the griddle with a paper towel, leaving just a tiny layer of oil on the surface (just like you would with pancakes).

Great for making toast or grilled sandwiches when camping. Also works wonderfully as a "wok" for a stir fry. And of course for typical burgers, bacon, etc. it is great. Seriously a steel griddle is the most useful cooking device known to man. You may even want to use it on your gas range at home.

On a camp chef stove the front of the griddle stays much less hot so you have a low heat zone which is very useful. On the larger size griddles (SG90 or SG100), if you have one burner going only you can use the other side for a huge warmer to keep items warm until all the food is cooked.

The steel "flame tamer" made by camp chef should also be purchased to help evenly distribute the heat from a camp chef stove.

Useful accessories to take along:

Laser thermometer to check the surface temp on the griddle. With experience you can hold your hand over it and count.

Small bubble level to help level the griddle when camping.

Bag to carry the griddle and keep it clean for storage (camp chef makes one).

High heat canola spray can for seasoning and storage (camp chef recommends Crisco but high heat canola in a spray can is much easier to apply). Butter typically has salt so should not be used for storage.

Flame Tamer mentioned above.

Scotch brite blue scrubber mentioned above (with all soap rinsed out). I prefer the blue scotch brite to a stiff brush.

Large steel turner 8x3 (spatula) with offset handle, the kind they sell at restaurant supply stores, and perhaps another similar but smaller size 2x4 steel spatula. You'll be amazed how great if feels to use a large steel spatula. Don't even think about using those horrid plastic spatulas with this steel griddle it would be sort of like buying a Ferrari and then never taking it over 25 mph.

If there are any CON's it would be the thermal mass. It takes a little more time to heat up and cool down (and more energy which might bother some greenies). But the thermal mass is what gives it nice cooking properties, so this is not really a con. Inexperienced users will turn up the heat too much only to find a few minutes later that the griddle is too hot, then get impatient and turn it down too much, and in a few minutes it is too cold, etc. Related to thermal mass is the weight issue the griddle is heavy and the ladies will probably want the guys to set it up and tote it around.

Another potential con is that it might have been 1/4" steel, to resist warping. Commercial griddles I believe are made in 1/4". But there are trade off's with the increased weight and thermal mass. If you are careful with it I don't think you will have any issue with warping. I have had none so far.

I own both the SG30 and the SG90, which are identical except for size (one burner and two burner, respectively).

I predict you won't regret buying this griddle. The only folks who won't like it IMO are those misinformed people who think cookware should be "shiny" and "clean". BTW, a bit of info for the shiny and clean faction only heat sterilizes a cooking surface, not soap. And, as is well known in wok cookery, the seasoning adds "wok hey" and improves flavor.

Super-heavy construction, and preseasoned to boot. This is as close to a commercial griddle surface as you'll ever take outdoors camping.

Did I mention heavy? It's 29 freaking pounds! Gobs of thermal mass...I took it out to a big picnic of foodies, and we ran a bacon tasting (15-20 pounds of multiple bacon brands, cooked under cast-iron bacon presses) with superb results.

Not mentioned in the product description: the grease gutter incorporates a drain hole, and the product includes a wire cage to hang a steel can from as a grease catch. Nice.

On a camp chef stove the front of the griddle stays much less hot so you have a low heat zone which is very useful, or if you have one burner going only you can use the other side for a huge warmer.

I own both the SG30 and the SG90, which are identical except for size.

Heavy and thick steel. Works great on the campchef stove. Not necessary to use much heat to keep the griddle hot for cooking bacon, pancakes or eggs. With a three burner stove I can have one side turned off to keep items warm while cooking food on the hot side. No need to have warming plates. We carry it in our motorhome for outdoor cooking for all the other friends that come on our weekend camping trips. I am able to cook the bacon first then move it to the side and keep warm while cooking, eggs, french toast and pancakes all at the same time for 8 people.
