GrillStone Grill Cleaner Starter Set, with Handle and Two Blocks
At someone's request here is my opinion on floss vs. foil vs. stone.
Floss
The Grill Floss product is my least favorite simply because it's such a pain to use. The floss works well enough to clean the grill (in fact it's probably the best product to clean all sides of the bars), BUT it's very time consuming since you have to scrape each side of the bar individually. And the thinness of the handle along with the pressure you need to exert makes it a strain on the hands.
Heavy Duty Foil Ball
I like this one because it's fast and easy. It doesn't clean the best, but it's better than a brush and it does a good job of scraping the sides of the bars. Also, after you hit the grill with the foil ball... you're done. No extra steps. The ball is pretty much the only thing you can do to get a quick, light cleaning in between rounds of cooking.
Grill Stone
This product is pretty good. It's a pumice stone, so it's very soft and light weight. When you brush down the grill with it and apply enough pressure, you'll put some grooves in the stone which will help to clean the sides of the bars. The stone does a good job of scraping every little bit off of the bars, and it's pretty quick since you're not scraping each bar individually. Basically it's like the foil ball but more abrasive.
The only downside is that you can't use it for a quick clean across the top like you can with the foil ball. You pretty much have to do a full clean on both sides and then brush down the grill when you use it. If you only scrape the top, then the remaining char and grease on the sides and bottoms of the bars will be covered in the sandy residue left by the stone. You don't want any of that to transfer to your food. Even if you brush the grill after cleaning the top, I think that you won't be able to get all of it. You'll probably need to scrape both sides and then brush the grill to get all of the sand off. This is a phenomenal product. It cleans quickly and easily, but the grates do have to be rinsed after cleaning unless you want little grains in your hamburgers.
As another reviewer noted, the pumice is soft and wears away quickly. But this is a real plus for two reasons: first, the grime that's picked up rinses easily off the stone; and second, if you have railroad-rail-shaped bars, you can quickly wear a groove that exactly matches the bar width and lets you clean all surfaces.
Mine came with the handle and a total of three stones. I used up one stone cleaning my three grates: they had not been cleaned in two years and were almost beyond hope.
This is 'way better than the "Grill Daddy" which I bought at the same time.

This item does clean the grill very well, and with minimum effort. I always feel you have to really put pressure on a metal brush to remove the junk on the grill, but with this, I didn't feel that I had to use that much pressure. However, it has only lasted about 3 cleanings, plus I recommend that you wipe the grill off again after using the block. It leaves a fine dust on the grill, and I wouldn't want to consume it. All in all, I will probably purchase the item again, but only use it occasionally to get heavy junk off the grill, and still keep a wire brush handy for the in-between cleanings.Read Best Reviews of GrillStone Grill Cleaner Starter Set, with Handle and Two Blocks Here
I purchased this product for myself a few years ago and found it to be the best item out there to clean our BBQ grill. I love it so much I purchased several grill blocks for both my son and daughter. Oh, and of course, several more for my husband and I. Can't say enough about it and we are completely and totally satisfied. Our BBQ grill looks brand new after using the grillstone. The Best!Want GrillStone Grill Cleaner Starter Set, with Handle and Two Blocks Discount?
This item arrived with an extra (beyond the two advertised) replacement cleaning block. I've been using these for several years--they are an abrasive pumice-type stone (created in a high temp kiln from recycled glass) that doesn't clog, rust, or shed bristles like some of the other grill cleaners I've used. I've used it on a couple of grills and found that it is much more effective on grills with wider space bars. It wears down rather quickly (hence the resistance to clogging) and will actually wear grooves to match the grill bars, making it very effective at cleaning between bars on grills with sufficient space between bars. For this reason, I find it much more effective on my charcoal Weber with skinny bars and lots of space than it is at cleaning my gas grill. Besides the fast wearing, the only downside is that the handle design is such that you can't use the last 1/3 of the brick without taking it out of the handle, which sort of defeats the purpose of the handle in the first place.Wednesday, February 12, 2014
Quik - Fold Side Table
I am attaching a collage of 3 photos under customers photos to aid in this review.
Photo #1 shows the table next to a ruler, the table top is at 20" from the ground. The table comes in a nice clay color. I put a piece of white paper on top of the table, so you can judge the color better.
Photo #2 demonstrates the folding flaw I mentioned earlier. I just grabbed a side of the table to move it, and you see how it folds in the middle causing anything on top of it to slide or fall.
Photo #3 shows how the table opens from the folded position: first lift the two side of the top and then slide them together. As they slide the legs automatically extend.
This table works well when space is limited, and I have enjoyed using on my deck. If it had a latch to stabilize the open top position it would have been perfect. As it stands now it gets a 4 star rating: good but not perfect.

I was happy with this folding table. Great color and very sturdy. Easily open and closes. not too short to use as a side table.Read Best Reviews of Quik - Fold Side Table Here
They description of this table is accurate. folding plastic table. Anyone who expects a "folding" table to be durable needs to think again. I love that it folds flat for easy storage. We bought it entirely for use when entertaining and needing extra table space for guests. Not something that should be left outside 24/7. The pictures do make it look like Polywood, but the price is a dead giveaway that this is a lightweight folding table, not to be used for anything requiring durability. It is also a short table, to be used next to a chair, not as a dining table.
It's just what I was looking for and I am glad I bought two. I bought the Desert Clay and I like the gray tone.Functional table easy to store and carry around. But it's lightweight property also makes it a little scary if left outside on a windy day or when placing delicate items on the table like wine glasses.

Whirlpool 4396710P KitchenAid PUR Push Button Cyst-Reducing, Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter
Some interesting Facts not all know: Why to change your filter...
Eventually the AC filter (Active Carbon) loses its ability to remove contaminants, because it becomes clogged with material. In the case of taste and odor, the time to change the filter is easy to detect. However, in the case of other contaminants, it is more difficult to determine when the filter is no longer performing at an adequate level. Most manufacturers recommend a filter change after a certain volume of water has passed through the filter. Some AC units actually meter the water and automatically shut down after a specific quantity of water has passed through the filter. A general rule of thumb for high-volume AC filters is to change the filter after six months of use or 1000 gallons of filtered water. Tests done by Rodale Press Product Testing Department indicated that filtering performance was reduced dramatically after 75 percent of the manufacturer's recommended life time. These results suggest that filters should be changed more often than suggested by the manufacturer. Some AC filters are claimed to last for five years, because they are rechargeable with hot water (145 degrees F). The heat is supposed to release adsorbed organic chemicals. Little information is available on the prolonged effectiveness of rechargeable AC units. General recommendations are somewhat useful quidelines, but there is no guarantee that they apply to any specific situation. Remember, the only certain way of knowing whether contaminant levels are acceptable or not is by having your water tested.
A sediment filter installed ahead of any AC filter will prolong the life of the AC unit. Sediment can easily clog the pores of an AC filter within a short period of time. A good sediment filter can be purchased for only a fraction of the price of most high volume AC filters.
The Bacteria Issue
AC filters can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The organic chemicals that are adsorbed to the AC are a source of food for various types of bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are those that cause human diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Public water systems must treat for disease causing bacteria; therefore, the likelihood of disease causing bacteria being introduced to an AC filter from public drinking water is remote. AC filtration should only be used on water that has been tested and found to be bacteria free or effectively treated for pathogenic bacteria.
Other types of non-pathogenic bacteria that do not cause diseases have been regularly found in AC filters. There are times when high amounts of bacteria (non-pathogenic) are found in water filtered through an AC unit. Research by R. L. Caldron and E. W. Mood (1987) shows little risk to healthy people that consume high amounts of non-pathogenic bacteria. We regularly take in millions of bacteria every day from other sources. However, there is some concern for certain segments of the population, such as the very young or old and people weakened by illness. Some types of non-pathogenic bacteria can cause illness in those whose natural defenses are weak. Flushing out bacteria that have built up in the filter can be accomplished by running water through an AC filter for about 30 seconds prior to use. Water filtered after the initial flushing will have much lower levels of bacteria and ingestion of a high concentration of bacteria will have been avoided. The flushing procedure is most important in the morning or any other time of the day when the filter has not been used for several hours.
Some compounds of silver have been used as disinfectants. Silver has been added to certain AC filters as a solution to the bacteria problem. Unfortunately, product testing has not shown silver impregnated AC to be much more effective in controlling bacteria than normal AC filters. Only in the first month of operation did there appear to be any advantage to using an AC filter that contained silver.
EPA requires registration of all types of water treatment equipment that contain an active ingredient for the purpose of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Registration does not guarantee that the product is effective. It only guarantees that the active ingredient will not leach from the filter at levels that would be a health hazard.
WIth all due respect to the reviewer who complained that the cost of 20 cents/day was unreasonable and excessive, this filter does an amazing job and is a fantastic bargain, **especially** when compared to bottled water and manufactured ice. We've had our new KitchenAid fridge for just a little over 6 months, and we've been delighted with the sparkly-clean, crisp, tasteless water & ice that this filter enables it to dispense. Especially since we live in a "hard-water" area, where the stuff coming from your tap, while acceptable, leaves a faint, gritty mineral taste. I used to "splurge" on store-bought ice several times/year for parties and special occasions, just because it tasted so much better. (Or rather, didn't taste like anything at all -which is of course the point.) Since we've had this fridge, with this filter, I've never needed to spend extra on bagged ice OR bottled water, because the ice & water thru this filter are every bit as good. The acid test? I could fill a clean plastic bottle with the water from this filter, and let it sit at room temperature for a day or more, and it still tastes just as good warm as if it were freshly dispensed. That same exercise with our regular tap water would've resulted in a nasty, nose-wrinkling, mineral stew as soon as the chill was gone. Another nice advantage this filter has over bottled water is that it does NOT filter out cavity-preventing fluoride, whereas most (all?) bottled waters do.

All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille Pan
I often marinade chicken tenders in Emeril Lagasse's marinade (he has several different marinades that you can find in your local supermarket) a day in advance and heat up this pan and toss on the chicken. I usually make a veggie or two and some rice, it is a very quick and easy dinner and is also very healthy! You can also use this pan for everything from burgers to a tuna steak.
This pan is not dishwasher safe due to the nonstick surface, but don't worry it is a breeze to clean. I have the George Foreman grill that has been sitting in the cabinet collecting dust since I bought this pan. I don't like the George Foreman grill because you can't really wash the grill surface very well. The grill surface should be removable so you can really clean it. This pan is very, very well made and is backed by a lifetime warranty. Sometimes this pan is sold as a special..., if you see it grab it. It is a steal at that price. Once you try All Clad you will be hooked too! Highly recommended! A+!I've been using grill pans for years and have bought many brands. This is the best one, hands-down. I gave away all five of the others I owned after the first time I used this pan. I love All Clad cookware in general and this is my first non-stick. The results are so superior to any other grill pan I recommend it to everyone. If you want healthy and perfectly prepared grilled food, whether it's fish, meat or vegetables, without a drop of added fat, this pan is for you. Buy it.

I'm a big fan of All-Clad and have a lot of All-Clad LTD and MasterChef pots and pans. I feel All-Clad has a great design methodology and makes great quality gear. Also, their non-stick coating is the best in the business. This grill pan, however, isn't actually clad the secret of its low price. It's made from a single piece of anodized aluminum like a Calphalon pan as a brief examination of the edge reveals. The beefy handle is the most All-Clad thing about it. The nonstick coating isn't the usual All-Clad type either although it certainly is top quality. As a grill pan, this one is very good that's not the problem.Grill pans make grill marks on your food but are no substitute for actually grilling. There's no smoke flavor or high heat caramelization. The only thing the grill pan gives you is the sear marks. To that end, the nonstick surface fights you. Metal gives much better sear marks than nonstick coatings. In order to get a nonstick pan to give good sear you must really crank the heat up. This makes a lot of smoke which make a good lid a necessity. Sadly, this pan doesn't include a lid. I found that the Calphalon 12" "Everyday" pan's lid is a perfect fit by coincidence so I use it every time.
I have the luxury of a grill outside my kitchen door. I'm the kind of hardy soul who has no problem stepping out in the snow in shirtsleeves to flip the steaks. I find all grill pans to be a very poor substitute to actually grilling. Maybe if I lived in the city and couldn't grill as easily I'd be more enamored of this pan. As it is, I mainly use it under duress (such as during bad rain storms when I reluctantly must grill indoors).

I recently tossed a Calphalon grill pan in the trash after I could not clean it after use. Looking for another grill pan to replace it, I found this gem. I don't know how Amamzon can offer this high quality pan for this price, but grab it. Wonderful heat distribution, very large cook surface and NOTHING sticks!!Want All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille Pan Discount?
I could not believe that I found this pan at this price. I was further astounded when I received it and started cooking on it. It is absolutely fabulous. NY Strip streak comes out truly delicious when you simply sprinkle some salt and cracked pepper on it and then throw it on the grill pan. Also works great for bacon. Also works great for burgers. Also works great for...anything you could think of. For cleaning, I recommend immediately filling it with water after taking the food out, enough to cover all the bottom, and then let it sit til after dinner and you start doing the dishes. If you do this, then I recommend an OXO brush (ASIN B0000CFQOB) with nylon bristles. Gently brush between the grooves to loosen the remaining material and then use a sponge. I recommend the nylon brush because it is hard to get a sponge to get every bit of remaining material along the grooves. But overall this is incredibly easy to clean and even easier to cook on. I still cannot believe I paid only fifty for this item.Thursday, September 19, 2013
American 11.75" Grill Pan
I would like to add that for practicality purposes -I must confess that I really haven't used this pan as much as I thought I would after owning if for approx 9 months. I find myself reaching for the cast iron skillet to sear meats in order to sear all of it -and popping in the oven to finish off if needed. If I want grill marks, I'll use the gas grill outside. This is just a personal preference and is by no means meant to dishonor the fine quality product that the Staub grill pan is. I would have bought a cast iron Staub skillet if I didn't already have a similar product.
Staub makes top quality skillets and grill pans and you can't go wrong with them. Yes, they are expensive so make sure you will use them!!Upon using this one time, the enamel cracked. It's really too bad because it sears very nicely and was moderately easy to clean compared to other cast iron enameled grill pans

I purchased the enameled cast-iron pan with great expectations. The first time I used it, on an electric stove, I heard a loud *crack* three times. The enamel had split. I returned the pan to the embarrassed shop. The first time I used the replacement, another loud *crack* and another split enamel. I'm returning it yet again, and will not get another. Too bad, because the food grilled up great.
Also, the handles are NOT removable.

AcuRite 00869 Wireless Grill Thermometer
My only disappointment is that the remote pager unit does not display the temperature. This is my own fault since on re-reading the description, it only says that the pager can also display a timer. Even there, the pager timer is independent of the one in the main unit, so you have to set both at the same time if you want to see how much time is left from the pager.I couldn't get any readings beyond 10 feet, there is no temperature reading on the remote. When the probe burnt out (my fault), I tossed the unit rather than throwing more money into a poorly designed item.

A wireless thermometer should, by definition, tell you the temperature wirelessly. This unit does not. It barely beeps when the main unit reaches a preset temp IF you're not out of range, which mine is when it's 10 feet away. This is not the one you want.Read Best Reviews of AcuRite 00869 Wireless Grill Thermometer Here
I have had mine for over a year and it works great! I love it I use it with a traeger grill and use the magnet on the back to attach the digital readout on the side of the pellet hopper (that doesn't get so hot) then I can just look out my side window without even opening the door and see what the temperature is. It don't really use it for time because I barbeque to the temperature of the meat. If there is one that the remote shows the temperature I think that would be nice, but I am very happy with the accuracy of this one. My meat always turns out perfect. The screen could not be read unless viewed at an angle and the remote does not monitor temperature. It would only sound off if the meat timer went off or the temp reached a certain level (that you set).
