Looftlighter 70018 Fire Lighting Tool

The Looftlighter is an electric fire starter that is more like a blow dryer on steroids. It contains an electric coil and blows air through the cylinder at a very high rate. Charcoal can be lit is as little as 60 seconds by simply touching the end to the charcoal for 20-30 seconds and backing it away slightly as sparks appear. It can also be used to start wood fireplaces by using the same method on kindling or newspaper.

I found it to be excellent for starting one area in 60 seconds and placing it in one or two other areas of the charcoal pile took about half the time before the charcoal started sparking. It also comes with an attached steel stand (not seen in photo) that also serves as a bottle opener.

If you're an avid griller and want a quick way to start your charcoal this could be a useful addition to your grilling accessories. The price may deter some from making a purchase, but it depends on the priority you put on price and convenience. I've been happy with mine for the last six months and use it every week.

The Looftlighter works very well to start charcoal fires quickly. The powerful blower penetrates heat deep into a pile of charcoal and gets a fire going in a few minutes.

There is one significant negative potential buyers should be aware of regarding this product. The device produces a lot of sparks and the blower sends them all over. I would recommend against using this device in any fire hazardous environment or anywhere flying sparks might be a problem.

Ok so I loved the idea, I loved the way it worked not needing any chemical filled lighter fluid to light the charcoal. But it quit working after about the 4th use and I have made repeated attempts to reach customer service and NO LUCK.... They should change it to a lifetime warranty and maybe they can rope in some more suckers like me.

Because they dont honor the current warranty they have. This really PISSES me off. $80 dollars for 4 uses, I typically take poor reviews with a grain of salt, but if I were you I would not purchase this item solely based on piss poor customer service. I think I will make it my personal agenda to make sure everyone is aware this company sucks. I wish I could rate them with negative stars to pull down the overall rating.... This thing is great. I went from taking about 20 minutes to start my grill to about 5. Be careful when using it. The first time I used it I left it in the coals too long and melted the outer cage a little bit, but that was user error and no fault of the tool.

Calphalon Professional Nonstick II 12-Inch Round Grill Pan

This pan presents a conundrum. First, when grilling, the goal is to cook at as high a heat as possible. At least, that's how I like it. You still can't get your stovetop burners as hot as a charcoal grill, but you can certainly get it quite hot. The problem I have had is that when I cook at high temps, food sticks, even to the "nonstick" surface. It surely is easier to clean than a "sticky" surface, but at least those you don't have to worry about scratching the surface. The food, however, turns out just fine, and like all Calphalon, the pan's temperature control and evenness are excellent due to the conductivity of the aluminum. A side issue is that the underside of the Professional Nonstick II line appears excessively susceptible to stains and marks. The Commercial Nonstick line does not have this problem. I also believe the Commercial Nonstick line has a somewhat more advanced nonstick coating (Calphalon discusses this briefly on its web site).

Calphalon Professional Non-Stick is simply the best cookware. I've owned this pan before and am buying it again (lost the first one in the divorce!). The fact I'm buy it again should say it all. It' great for frying up chicken, pork chops, etc. at the end of a long day's work when frankly, the last thing you feel like doing is cooking. Then comes the best part.... so easy to clean! Nothing sticks! Not even if you leave it in the sink overnight but that never happens! Enjoy!

Nice quality pan, as with all of the Nonstick II products. However, Calphalon shouldn't have even bothered to make this grill pan. STRENGTHS: easy cleanup, durable pan; WEAKNESSES: flat ridges don't raise the food to get hot air circulation and get it out of the oil, round shape is a bad choice for trying to fit 4 pieces of meat, and the nonstick finish produces almost no browning sort of unappetizing. "Cooking Light" magazine reviewed many grill pans and did not recognize this as one of the better ones. Features they recommend looking for (and I can vouch for these!): square shape, high cooking surface ridges, high sides to keep in heat, and ANY finish other than nonstick.

First, let me address the comments about food sticking. Rule #1 when grilling on anything....you must let the item being grilled cook until ready to turn. If you try to turn ANYTHING before it is time, it will stick. That said..this pan is great. Good quality and the price is incredible. I have used mine for 2 years, and still no complants. Clean up is easy to. I don't understand why the other comment about food sticking?? If cleaned as instructed, there is no problem at all. Mine still looks brand new and I used it at least 3 times a week.

Our Sharp Carousel microwave finally died after 18 years of faithful service. Even the light bulb lasted 18 years. It was heavy and reliable; an awesome appliance....Naturally, I planned to replace it with another Carousel. The reviews were not spectacular. Poorly designed touch-pad, plastic latch mechanism, etc. Unfortunately, other manufacturers seemed to be as bad or worse. I needed a microwave and couldn't find anything better, so I ordered a Sharp R-530E (R-530 EKT according to the label). That's the very large, 1200 watt oven in gleaming black with a 16 inch turntable. Now that I've used it for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to offer my appraisal.

The Good:

Good price. Hard to believe how inexpensive these are.

Awesome size. This bad boy can accept your largest dishware and has a substantial glass turntable.

Good power. A large cup of water will be piping-hot in 2 minutes. Re-heating a large casserole dish of leftovers is quick and reasonably even, but is likely to make a mess unless covered.

Unit looks great. The gleaming black is unobtrusive and looks great on our dark granite counter. The digital readout is OK and the clock is easy to set, although it lacks a 12/24 hour choice. Odd since it offers foreign language choices.

The Bad:

Flimsy plastic latch mechanism. My previous unit had plastic latch hooks, but they were substantial. If you barely brush against these, they WILL snap off. Much worse than I expected.

Ridiculous touch-pad. The ON, OFF, and MINUTE PLUS are hard to find and way too small. The pad is cluttered with lots of choices you probably will never use.

A lightweight. Although some electronic components have gotten lighter, the light weight of this unit is perhaps indicative of the overall move to cheaper components. I don't expect it to last.

No turntable disable or 30 second quick heat buttons.

No easy access to change the light bulb. When mine fails, I will rewire it with a LED, assuming I haven't already thrown it away because the cheap plastic latches snapped off.

Bottom line: Looks good, great size, good price, works adequately, but probably won't last. What were they thinking with those cheap plastic latches ready to snap off? Did any of those engineers use that horrible touchpad before they put it into production?

I'm looking at buying the 4th one of these in 5 years. Why the same model every time? The space was custom built for it & so far haven't been able to find another that fits as well. First one had to be repaired after a month as the door refused to open, ultimately that one burned out after cooking microwave popcorn for the lowest amount of time listed on the package. (Everything cooks in lower range of recipe recommended times or less have never dared to try any higher time amounts.) 2nd one came & door would not open at all bravo Amazon they replaced it quickly. 3rd one has worked for 18 months door is starting to fail it will still open if you pull up on the handle while pushing the button, but it's only a matter of time...

We had a Sharp convection microwave combo prior to this one and loved it. Didn't use the convection part that often but the Sharp was always dependable and works well. This new one is no disappointment. I like the defrost program it works well compared to previous microwaves we have had. With anything you learn to use it based on your preferences but the Sharp brand has been dependable and the power and 2.2 cu is great.

I would not hesitate to recommend this microwave to someone.

The microwave works excellent. The only problem is the door does not open properly all the time. When you push the large button to open the door sometimes it works fine and other times it does not release and open. You must repeatedly push the button hard! It is going to be a real pain to correct and I believe it will eventually break due to all the hard pushing.

There is nothing wrong with the product, except it is not the size indicated by the dimensions on the graphic. I was counting on those particular dimensions to cover a hole in the ceiling next to the fan housing, but as I recall, the dimensions of the grille I got were 8-3/4" X 9-1/8", and although it attaches to the fan just fine, it didn't cover my hole. I had to return it.

At first thought, a campfire tripod seems like something of an extravagant expense to have along on a hike, or camping trip. Nobody ever seemed to have bothered with one in the old westerns when they were chowing down on beans and bacon. So its kinda easy to imagine that like the cowboys and cattlemen of old, we could just save ourselves the trouble of toting it along and improvise when the time comes. Anyone who is reading this that has ever attempted to actually put that improvising into effect on the trail, knows full well what I am talking about when I say that for just that one time and place, a tripod system that actually works would be worth a portion of your prospected gold. Many a meat and potatoes dinner over a cracklin' fire has been ruined as it plunged into the fire pit after a make shift system that we created, and predicted "would work just dandy", collapses and takes both the fire, and your dinner with it. Quite simply put, there is just nothing like a store bought tripod system like the Bayou Classic in going to great lengths in making your dinner a success, as opposed to a cussed filled disaster. At just $20 at the time of this writing, I feel the 7485 model is the true best buy among the variety and price available here on Amazon. Pay a little more and you will get something a little higher, and thus wider that will accommodate larger diameter pots. But from my own examination of this line locally, I did not see any pronounced difference in ruggedness, or strength as the price increased. What you get for spending more in this line is more room for your dinner. Not any real discernible increase in heaviness, or construction. As another reviewer here noted, if your campfire iron ware is limited to about 14" or smaller, you will do just fine with this solid model. That measurement in my opinion is both large and generous enough to handle the vast majority of most rustic cooking lines. Only if you plan on moving a bigger herd that will call for a lot more cowfolk' is spending more money for a larger/taller unit all that necessary. This model with its adjustable chain should be all the average crew should ever need when it comes time to sit around the camp fire and enjoy the sweet fruit and pickin's of your days hike, or hard labor.... This tripod was cheaper then the others that I priced. So I was a little hesitant about the quality. But when I got it, I'm very pleased with it. I'm glad that I didn't buy the more expensive tripods. This one is just as good.

This is a really nice product and half the price of the other brands. It's a great buy if you use a Dutch oven less than 14" wide. I use a 12" 6Qt Dutch oven and it fits, but leaves little room to maneuver the lid on/off. It's fine if set at a lower level, but the fire is really on the Dutch oven like that. You would need to accept that or dig a hole for your fire to have a greater distance from flame to oven. In retrospect I would have bought the 60" model other brands have, but it really works fine if you just dig that hole.

I gave this 4 stars only because I think it should be taller. That extra height would allow the legs to be spread wider and accomodate a larger oven or just allow for a larger one to be lifted higher from the flames.

It's still worth the price anyway...

Secondly, I was shocked at what a great value this is for only $19.99. I guess I didn't read the description clearly when I ordered it because I didn't realize it came with a bag...and that only makes it a better value. This tripod is sturdy and very well designed. The three legs are hinged together, in essence making it all one piece, and set up is FAST. The bag is a sturdy nylon with handles. I have just recently bought this fan, based on my experience with my old fan that had propeller blades identical to depicted on all published images associated with this fan model. This shape of the propeller (with blades similar to elephant ears) is contributing to higher airflow, at the same RPM, vs. shape of propeller with blade looking like rabbit ears, and which is lately used on majority of inexpensive box fans sold under brand names Lasko or others.

To my surprise, the fan that arrived per my order, while having on the box a correct model number and image as on this web page, has propeller identical to less expensive Lasko brand box fans.

In fact, Air King is subsidiary of Lasko, as I discovered while contacting the Air King.

In short, this fan went through a typical to current times "cost reduction reengineering" by someone who has no clue about air dynamics of propellers. As a result, the fan is noisier than before because it has to rotate faster, due to the new shape of its propeller blades, to produce a similar airflow, and is no different from all other box fans on the market, but is a twice as much expensive.

Do not waste your money. Note that I was told by customer service of the company that, from now on, this fan model will have the same propeller as supplied with Lasko brand fans. The company "didn't have a time" to replace this fan's marketing images. In addition, I found that warranty period on the fan has been reduced from 3 years to just 1 year.

I ordered this fan because the blades looked a little more like the old box fans that you used to be able to get 20 years ago. Back then the blades were wider and had a steeper pitch. When they said 20" they meant the diameter of the blade, not the size of the box.

Well I was partially right. Compared to the Lasko 3733 that I own and some unknown model of a Lakewood box fan with nearly identical blades as the Lasko, it moves a little more air and is a little quieter. Noise is hard to characterize. To me the Air King is quieter because the noise it makes is at lower frequencies and is easier to ignore -It's more of a "rumble" than the "buzz" you get from the Lasko and Lakewood.

Much of Air King's slight performance advantage is because it is a bigger fan. The Box is 21" and the blades are 20". The Lasko and Lakewood have 20" boxes and the blades are 19" Is it worth twice the price as the Lasko and Lakewood? Probably not, but there isn't much choice anymore. It looks like all these fans come from the same factory.

This fan had only worked for one season then it sparked and I can smell smoke the next summer. I was very disappointed that it broke and almost started a fire. I bought it because it looked like the old fans. I have the Haier box fan that also looks like the old ones. This fan used to work really well but it wasn't worth it.

This item is a real disappointment, at least for my application. I expected much better from the name. It simply does not move any large volume of air with its wimpy plastic blades, although it makes a lot of noise at medium and high speeds. Mine is mounted tightly in a window and is used as a whole-house exhaust fan (a standard window fan will not fit my tall, narrow, crank-open windows). This replaced a 47 year old 20" Toastmaster box fan (which finally died) which would pull the curtains well away from any open windows and created a very definite strong draft throughout my home, and was relatively quiet while doing it. Of course, it had a large-bladed metal fan. This Air King can barely rustle the curtains, creates a minor breeze, and sounds like a turboprop aircraft on a takeoff roll. I live where summers are very brief and uncomfortable heat only lasts two or three weeks so a more elaborate ventilation or cooling system is not justified. I had hoped this fan would be a good replacement for my old one but it has fallen far short and before next summer I will definitely have replaced it with something with metal blades instead of plastic. Perhaps this would be fine for just blowing air around a room but it is a real flop at being a true air mover. I contacted Air King about replacing the plastic fan with a metal one but they stated it definitely was not at all possible. Incidentally, free shipping from Amazon was very timely and I had the item via USPS in a matter of only a few days after ordering. Excellent service from Amazon.

Even though I purchased two of these fans a while ago, they are still working great! Much better than the Lasko's. They are more money, but sometimes itmes that cost more for one reason or another are the better bargain. The motor on this fan I find to be better because it is stronger than the Lasko's I had before. So of course I recommend this fan to others.

Wolfgang Puck 10" Round Grill Pan

This was a Christmas gift for a family member, and she really likes it. When you have a smooth ceramic cooktop, finding a grill pan is a real challenge. This does the trick.

I first purchased a Wolfgang Puck cookware stainless steel set off QVC some 3-4 years ago to supplement an older Teflon set. Since then I have been pleased with the quality of the line and the way it cooks my food. Now I have decided to completely replace the supplement set and just use WP and have no regrets doing. From the picture online, the grill marks appear larger than they are in reality. I cooked a steak on the highest setting, sear at 550 degrees,for three minutes per side, and little if any grill marks appeared on the cooked steak. In its favor, the pan was easy to clean using Zud and a soft cloth on one side and nylon scrubbers on the other. I really would like to find a product equivalent to outside grilling. George Foreman grills gave similar results. Puck 10" grill pan was purchased at Amazon.

Vertical Electric Smoker

I oredered this smoker and it was very easy to assemble , the smoker works great the water pan is too small which means you must keep a close eye on the smoker to ensure water does not run out and your meat gets dry . After the first use the temp. guage quit working , i figured i would still use. However after the second use the plug in prong melted and i can no longer use it . I am currently waiting on replacement and hopefully will not have the same problems. I would not buy this product it is not worth the money , Lowes has a better smoker that is half the price and has a much bigger water pan .

I recieved the smoker on the delivey date promised. It had a couple minor shipping dings. The hinges for the doors were put on with pop rivets that had been popped before they were drawn down tight. I drilled those out and put in some metal screws. The doors don't close tight a situation I plan to remedy before the next use. The inner wall had been put on with screws that were the same size as the holes they were to fit and so I replaced all of them with the next size up of metal screws.

All of that said my first run was a total success and could not have asked for a better job of smoking and the pepperoni and sausage I smoked turned out great and would have been even better if I hadn't tried for a couple more hours of smoke which dried them out a little. But that was operators error and this is the first sausage and pepperoni I have tried to make. The flavor sure beats the soy impregnated store sausage and not having all that fat, which we trimmed off, in the finished product a real plus.

The thermometer on the door proved to be quite accurate and something that I will use in addition to the meat thermometer in the next batch. I got my sausage making supplies from Eldon's Jerky and sausage supplies in Kooskia Idaho. I started with their sample package and a couple others not in the pack. I like all of the ones I have tried so far. Also their casings. The smoker is a real value and would have been excellent had a little more care in assembling been taken. How ever since we do a lot of things in our shop these were not as large a problem as they might be to someone with no knowledge or tools. Visit our web site to see what we do in our shop.

where do i start with the problems i have with this smoker first the thermostat was not reading correctly so i had them send me another one (guess what that one didnt work neither then i had a huge problem with the electric thermostat control unit that plugs on the botton right side of the smoker after a while it melts the plastic on them i have already gone through 2 of them and im waiting for the 3rd to be sent to me (its on back order for 4 months )!!!!!!!!! no wonder its a major design fault thats for sure

FYI, those of you with square burners will not like this one. It is not stable because of the design, which is clearly meant for round burners.

I would have given this no stars but it won't let me. This non-stick griddle has more things stick to it than tape. It is simply the worst product I have purchased in a long time. I have this "non-Stick" griddle for just about a month and it is ready for the trash. The non-stick is coming up on the flat end and the griddle is worthless, it ripped my chicken cutlets to shreds. Don't buy it!!! If you read this and still buy it may you have three horrible meals like I did before it met the old trash can.

I like to grill steak, chops and chicken and have used a George Foreman grill exclusively before purchasing this grill. This piece is a nice alternative to the GF...particularly since it grills one side at a time.

The Good...because it sits atop your stove burners, you can adjust the heat setting (though this takes some practice)...which is something the bargain GF grills don't do and the more expensive GF grills do with only a small range of temps. Plus, if you span it across two burners, you can have one end set to a grilling temp and the other end set to a "keep warm" temp. No grill is easy to clean, but this one's easier than a GF type.

The Bad...though it has a non-stick coating, you should still use a non-sticking spray (Pam).

The Jury's still out...I wonder how long the non-stick surface will last with it being in direct contact with the carbon heating elements of an electric burner. Also, I doubt I would have used this for a gas burner as you'd have to closely monitor the flame to ensure it doesn't "suffocate" and you're left with a build-up of natural gas.

Nordic Ware Holiday Wreath Pan

For many years I owned the basic fluted Nordic Ware bundt pan. Occasionally I made a rich pound cake and then returned the pan to its place in the cabinet not giving the matter much thought. Then a few years ago I saw this Christmas Wreath pan in a gourmet cooking shop. I'm not sure if it was the intricacy of the design or the obvious quality but I had to have it and as other beautiful designs are created by Nordic Ware, they are added to my bundt pan collection. Using a pan like this makes baking in a plain round or rectangle seems unnecessarily bland. This pan produces gorgeous cakes that look simply stunning. No additional decorating is needed, except for a sprinkle of powdered sugar to bring out the details.

Begin by spraying the pan liberally with a baking spray that contains flour, like baker's joy, then turn the pan upside down and let it drain over paper towels while preparing the cake. Use a thick batter either from scratch or alter a cake mix. The included recipe is great and there are are many recipes on the Internet and some good cookbooks to help, but one simple method when using a mix is to substitute the water for plain yogurt or sour cream (non-fat work fine, too) and add an extra egg (or two egg whites). Light colored batters show off the detail in but anything will look nice. Any additions to the batter should be small, like mini-chocolate chips, citrus zest, poppy seeds or finely chopped nuts so they don't sink to the bottom of the cake mold and ruin the design.

The pan should be filled 2/3 full of batter to ensure the entire design of the pan is included in the finished cake. My first attempt using this pan only had the batter reaching slightly above the half-way point, so when it finished baking the batter never rose fully to incorporate all the details of the bottom edge. It still looked nice and tasted great, but I always made extra batter after that, which I use to make mini bundt cakes. Give the pan a good rap or two on the counter before putting it in the oven to release any air bubbles (they interfere with the design.)

Be sure to let the cake rest in the pan after it comes out of the oven for 10 to 15 minutes (but no more) and then put a cooling rack on the top of the pan and turn the pan over. The cake should pop right out. I've made many and never had one stick. The key to good release is in using a baking spray and allowing the 10-15 minute rest period before unmolding. If after baking the bottom of the cake is uneven, before unmolding, take a bread knife and gently cut straight across to slice off the high parts so the cake will sit flat. Never use metal utensils on the pan or harsh scouring pads. With a little care the pan should last a lifetime.

I baked Ina Garten's Lemon Cake in this pan for the Holidays and it was not only a gorgeous cake it was delicious..The cake came right out of the pan and I brushed the glaze on with a wide pastry brush...I own many many nordicware pans and this is one of my very favorites. In case your wondering..the pan is large but the cake recipe from Food Network was adequate to make a nice cake without doubling the recipe!...I also brushed the pan with shortning prior to flouring it and lowered the oven temp. to 325 Degrees and it came out a golden brown,just like the picture. I saw this pan on a gold box last year and had to have it. I'm so glad I bought it. It is a heavy, high quality pan that turns out everytime with ease. I use a light coat of Pam for Baking. The first time I used it, I made the Hershey's Chocolate Cake recipe (the one of the back of the box) and dusted with powder sugar. Next I made my carrot cake. My carrot cake is a very, very dense carrot and spice cake that is a family favorite. WOW! It came out so nicely that I did not frost it but served cream cheese frosting in a crystal bowl next to it. Next time I may just pipe some red frosting on the ribbon to make it pop.

I love the Nordic Ware pans so much that I now own 3 and am looking at replacing all my baking pans with these.

Any cake pan will do when baking a studded fruit cake or any other cake for that matter. But Nordic ware pans are so beautiful and sturdily made. This one is no exception. I found this elsewhere and am not dissapointed in the way this bakes and how stunning these cakes leave your table during the holidays or any celebration. Remember though to butter it well, with a pastry brush to get into the grooves, and dust with flour for easy release. Enjoy!

This pan is wonderful when decorated with my little plastic santa in his sleigh & pulled by the reindeers. I have the reindeers flying over the hole in the middle of the cake with little plastic trees spread around the cake so it actually looks like the sleigh with Santa in it is flying. I also dust the final product very lightly with icing sugar to resemble snow. I am only sorry I didn't have it earlier in life but oh well, will make the best of it now. I will think of other occasions to use it for undoubtedly. It is awesome, love it.

What started the search for this pan was my leftover eggnog every year, eggnog freezes well, so not having the time to make the cake right away, I froze the eggnog before it soured to make the cake a few days later.
