Buy Rachael Ray Hard Anodized II Nonstick Dishwasher Safe 11-Inch Deep Square Grill Pan, Orange Now
I love this Grill Pan. I've never had one before and was encouraged by a friend to get one. Oh My wonderful grill marks with little effort. Very little oil needed, if any at all so your food is healthier. It's Square so the food seems to fit better. Also, to finish off those chops in the oven right in the same pan is awesome.Turn up the heat pretty high at the start to get the nice sear marks. Great skillet and easy to clean. Been using it steady!Great product, just wish it came with a lid. Would make ease of use much better. Besides for that love the pan, use it all the time!Thursday, August 7, 2014

Weber Style 6441 Professional-Grade Chef's Tongs

Perfect heavy duty tongs needed for grilling. They are very sturdy and are plenty long enough to keep you from getting burned. Excellent grip on the tips make sure there are no accidents.Read Best Reviews of Weber Style 6441 Professional-Grade Chef's Tongs Here
I decided to try these after being frustrated at the thin, wimpy tongs available at most stores. As other have said these are very sturdy, made with a much thicker gage of stainless steel than usual. The should last a long, long time.
However, I wasn't happy with the shape of the tongs gripping surface. Too much of a 'vee' front to back and kinda flat at the back. If you try to pick up a burger or other meat from a grill, you'll puncture it with the tip before you get a good grip on it. (I don't know how Weber considers this shape to be optimal.)
As shipped, the tip is more of a 'pincer' than any other tong I've owned. Weber must think that it enhances grasping small objects like shrimp or asparagus, but I find the shape just plain wrong. The vee is so angled that only if you pick up something 5-6" across are the tips contacting all the way along the head. If you like to pick up burgers, steaks, and chicken by laying the tongs flat on the grill and pick thing up from the sides, these are your tongs. If you pick up things by sliding one tip under the food and gripping the top, these are simply the wrong shape.
After trying them, I went into my shop and put each tip over a 1 1/2" oak dowel for a mandrel and beat the tips into shape with a rubber mallet, patterning the shape after other tongs. I flattened the front to back angle to about 1/3 of the original and made each tip more concave as well so the back 'teeth' bite better. Now I can pick up a typical burger and steak with the tip contacting the whole length of the tong head, not just at the tip. Yet after modifying them, they still work good when 'side-gripping' as well, so I can't say I like Weber's design. At least they can be re-formed to ones own preference.

Taylor Weekend Warrior Waterproof Digital Thermometer *NSF Approved
Also, this model is less accurate. Even after being calibrated at 32 degrees as recommended, it mis-measured the temperature of boiling water. The Taylor 9842 was much closer to being accurate (about two degrees too high, taking elevation into account). If I let the meat get to the recommended temperature as shown by this thermometer, the meat is overdone. I've re-calibrated it according to the directions, but the problem persists. I don't trust the thermometer's readings.

Cuisinart CGG-200 All-Foods 12,000-BTU Portable Outdoor Tabletop Propane Gas Grill
The grill is heavy duty and I'm guessing it's going to last a long time. The grate is genuine cast iron, so season it before using to get the full cast iron effect, and extend the life of the grate. It has a very fine coating of wax on it for protection, so you should wash it the first time with very hot water to remove the wax. Dry it well then coat it, both sides, with an oil of your choosing I used olive oil. Put it into your oven (pre-heated to 450), turn heat down to 300, leave it for an hour, turn heat off and let it cool. Your grate is now seasoned. You won't need to wash it again. Just keep it debris-free with your grill brush, and oil before each use.
This grill heats very quickly, and the surface of the grate is evenly heated. The size is more than adequate for an average size family. I recommend reading more of the reviews for more info and helpful tips! I could not be more pleased with this purchase.

I purchased this Cuisinart grill because I was looking for a tabletop grill to take tailgating at NASCAR events and my wife to take to dog shows. After researching all the grills, this one looked to be a step up from the other ones available in this price range. We also have other Cuisinart appliances and trust the name. The body is made of stainless steel and each side table is stainless as well, unlike the plastic ones of the other models I looked at. It has a heavy cast grate that I love and comes with a vegetable tray which comes in handy with a vegetarian daughter. I am typically a charcoal man, but do not like to mess with charcoal when tailgating or fire up the big grill for something small. The grill arrived in its own packaging. When I opened it up, I found it to be well packaged and all the contents to be in great shape, which I was surprised given the treatment my packages typically get by UPS. Heavy foam and cardboard enclosed all the parts.
Assembly was a snap with just 4 screws and washers that screw into the short stand the grill sits on. I sprayed the grate with non-stick spray to season it. It does not say to do this in the instructions, but I always do with new grills to make sure the food does not stick and it is easy to clean. When I fired it up I immediately noticed that it preheated very fast. It was up to 500 degrees in just a few minutes. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked on my first meal of chicken.
We have had this grill about 8 weeks now and use it around 2 3 times each week We keep in on a table on our deck near the charcoal grill. I find myself running out with a couple frozen burgers for lunch or some chicken tenders at dinner time to complement a salad. This avoids heating up the stove in the summer time and having to clean up a mess. The grill gets hot quickly and I end up turning the temp down unless I have a very full load. I liked being able to grill with the lid down to control any flare-ups and maintain better overall cooking. Some other grills do not let you cook with the lid down. A bottle of propane seems to last us a long time, but I guess that depends on your cooking habits.
It has two handles and my wife and I find it easy for one of us to carry in and out of the truck and car and set up. The side tables both turn in and store under the lid. They turn out and snap in place when ready to use.
I found cleanup to be easy as the grate easily removes. Grease either burns off on the flame guard or runs into the grease tray that slides out under the grill. I typically do not clean out the inside very much unless I cook something that builds up a lot of ash and burnt on food parts. The outside stainless wipes off easily and looks like a new grill again each time.
I would recommend this grill to anyone that wants an easy to use, great looking grill that I am sure will last for many years. If you are planning to use small propane cans with this grill then its OK and it works fine. However, I bought extended hose made by Cuisinart specially designed to use this grill with 20lb propane gas tank. After connecting this hose to the grill and 20lb propane tank ( I tried 2 of these tanks) I could not get high flame or enough heat to BBQ at all temperature was 250F with 30 minutes waiting before I shut it off. I guess its because small propane cans are under a high pressure and 20lb propane exchangeable tanks are under low pressure. If this is a case than Cuisinart should stop adversing it so people will not waste money on exchangeable 20lb propane tanks and $25 for the useless conversion hose. I left a voice mail with customer service but no one called me back yet.

Pros:1. Uniform heat.
2. Good external appearance.
3. Thermometer is helpful.
Cons:
1. Doesn't reach a high enough temp to sear, even under the best ambient conditions.
2. On a cold/breezy day, it struggles to reach 200 deg F, which won't grill anything.
3. On a bright day, it's hard to see if it's lit.
4. Critical parts are NOT stainless, and rust through and disintegrate in about 18 months, including the spring clips that hold the burner cover.
5. After 18 months, the piezo igniter stopped working.
Consumer Reports recently rated this grill as by far the worst of all small grills tested.

However, after a few months of using the largest skillet, which is my go-to pan for most cooking, it has lost the ability to remain non-stick. If you don't use a lot of oil or butter, the bottom will stick. Then you are faced with the dilemma on how to clean out the stuck food--and if you don't do it gently, the pan will continue to deteriorate.
There is a lot to like about these pans, but I am not completely confident of the durability of this particular green coating (non-pfe, pfoa.) Perhaps this version has a poorer quality coating than some others.

Purchased three sets and both of the frying pans always stick, contacted HSN for help and they referred me to the manufacture, another run around save your money dont buy, trying to find out what went wrong so I can tell my sister and son what not to do but this was a MAJOR waste of money. How sad there was no attempt to resolve this situation prior to the review being posted.....I purchased the Todd english green pan square grill pan and from day one it definitely did not perform as a non-stick pan. I have to really scrub it to get it clean. Very disappointing. No more Todd English non-stick pans.Want Todd English GreenPan Green+Life with Thermolon Healthy Summer 10-piece Cook Set Discount?
I purchased a similar Green-Life set at Walmart several months ago (for about $50, with slightly different pan sizes). Because I had read other reviews of other similar pans, I was very careful to NEVER use a green scrubby pad on them... and they have lasted beautifully and are amazingly non-stick.I even accidentally burned up a pan of beans -I mean the beans turned to CRUSTY black carbon and the smoke poured until the smoke detector screamed -reminding me that I was cooking. I was really angry at myself, and put the smoking pan outside to calm the screeching smoke alarm. I didn't bother to bring the pan in for several days, assuming that I had killed it.
But, when I finally looked at it, I was amazed to find that the hard lump of 'blackened beans' pulled out in one piece, and the pan is fine! I especially love the (smallish) stock pot -came on here today to see if I could find a Green-Life stock pot a little larger, and a 3 quart saucepan. (The set I have comes with a very small saucepan and the (maybe 6 qt ?) stock pot... a little too small and a little too large for most of the cooking I do (just for 2 people).
This set offered here looks like it contains 2 larger saucepans -and I am excited to get more of the frying pans, which I use daily.Statistics says that nonstick pans have a five year shelf life. This must be true as I have had a set that I purchased in 2007. Sadly, they are now breaking down. Everything sticks, they are hard to clean, and always look dirty. I am so sad by this as I loved them and they really were a good buy. It says a lifetime warranty, but where to send them in for a warranty replacement?

Had a DeLonghi toaster/oven for 7 years just replaced it with this oven. Love that it includes the panini option which I've already used several times and saves on an extra appliance. Highly recommend this oven!Read Best Reviews of DeLonghi EOP2046 Toaster Oven with Integrated Panini Press Here
I decided to buy a new toaster oven because my old one (not all that old) has push controls that are not always responsive and I wanted the old fashioned knobs. This model has knobs. It also looks good along with my other counter top appliances. I like the panini feature because it's useful for several things e.g., keeping my tortillas flat when I heat them up. And I like the grilling/broiling tray a lot. One reviewer mentioned that it took 10 minutes for toast. I don't have that problem; in fact, a bit the opposite and I have to be careful I don't "over" toast. I do find some uneven heating. The most annoying thing I've found is that there is no timer for the oven on this model. The toast/panini timers are not suitable for timing something in the oven. I was also surprised to learn that there is no convection feature on the oven. And while the blurbs extoll the size of the oven, I find it a bit on the small side; certainly smaller than my older toaster oven. So while I like the oven, I think it's overpriced considering what it doesn't have; viz.; an oven timer and a convection feature, along with a rather small oven. And the crumb tray has to be removed from the back, necessitating moving the oven. Since my older toaster oven has both features this one is lacking, a larger oven, and a front removal crumb tray (and it was cheaper) I've kept it for baking when I want a convection oven with a timer that shuts off the oven when the time is complete but don't want to use my stove.Want DeLonghi EOP2046 Toaster Oven with Integrated Panini Press Discount?
I've had many top name-brand toaster ovens over the years, and most were decent for use as a small secondary oven; however, not one ever did justice to toast, bagels, etc. They were almost always flawed in one way or another; my last one stopped working after only one year of use.My new Delonghi toaster oven/panini press toasts bread beautifully and bakes like a dream! The panini press makes fantastic, professional-looking paninis, and the directions are easy to follow. I've been using it for about six months now, and I couldn't be happier my new toaster oven was worth every penny! This is literally the first time I have ever purchased a product that lives up to EVERY promise. Thank you DeLonghi!!! Karen

Music City Metals 54911 Porcelain Steel Wire Cooking Grid Replacement for Select Viking Gas Grill M
The grill arrived damaged again after returning the first one. This is the second attempt that they tried to get it right. How can they expect to do business if the item arrives damaged each time? On the second attempt, to make matters worse, they will not replace the damaged item. This sucks when it comes to service. Will never use them again and the lack of response from the company is evidence that they do not care.
Use allvikingparts.com service is much betterThe grills arrived timely and in perfect shape. So happy to find a replacement that is exactly the same as what came with the grill.Perfect fit with my Viking grill, our old grids totally disintegrated, not good. There were some chips when it arrived because they were bent in shipping. Too desperate for them to send them back, my problem.

Frigidaire FRA144HT2 14,000/13,600 BTU Through-the-Wall Room Air Conditioner with Temperature Sensi
Thankfully, the sleeve was already there from our older model, and hence we intalled it ourselves that was not a difficult task but you will need 2 people to help! After a couple of days dealing with 100F + humidity: the A/C is doing its job and we noticed that it is distributing the cooled air more evenly (is that possible?). I noticed that with the older model (10 years old) that I could always feel the cold jet stream and had to put a cardigan on: now I dont need to and the cool air appears more distributed. Yeah!
Note that we have increased the rating from 4 to 5 stars following its wonderful performance over the brutal heat wave (106F) we just experienced.
We would like to stress to potential buyers that they need to follow the installation instructions and in particular to the installing the grill provided. The grill provided is designed such that the hot air blown out is not mixed with the cold air drawn into the A/C; our old grill had slants that faced downwards and that mixed the air flows so much that the A/C struggled to handle the heat. The new grill design is wonderful and should be fitted for all through the wall installations!
We are so pleased to get an upgrade and maybe you should also check out if your local energy company is offering any rebates for purchasing energy efficient appliances.I bought this unit in March of 2009, and it died in May of 2011. The main control board, and another board blew out. Figidaire did nothing for me other than tell me I should have bought an extended warranty. Expecting an air conditioner to last more than 2 years is completely reasonable, and Frididaire obviously does not stand by its product. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this unit, or this brand. It's pure junk, just like the company that makes it.I've had this air conditioner in for about 2 months now and it is great! I love having the remote, and being able to adjust a lot of settings. I live in a two bedroom condo and this unit is responsible for cooling about 800 square feet some days. I do agree that it is loud when you have it on full blast, but I think that it is something to expect when you rely on an ac unit instead of central air.
FYI it is a 230 volt plug, and in the box the air conditioner, a real grill, and a kit to fit it into an existing sleeve are included. If you do not have an existing sleeve, you need to buy one. Also, if you are installing yourself you need a drill to install the ground wire. Hope this helps!I will update this review as I get more time using the unit, but so far this is just what we were looking for.
This was put in an old existing sleeve, and the rear grill was mounted directly on the back of the unit. The manual says this way the units loses some efficiency, and that is a worst case scenario solution.
Still, this thing just blows ice cold air any time you want it. Really efficient. We live in an appartment on the last floor, and we expected cooling it to be a difficult task. We first went for a Sharp "portable" 10500 Btu unit from Costco, which could BARELY bring the temperature down a little.
We replaced it with the Frigidaire unit, and oh My, is there a difference ! This thing CHILLS !
Long story short:
PROS:
It just does what it's expected to do. And it does it well.
Functional remote (although see cons below).
All functions accessible without remote (yes, sounds logical, but some brands don't give you a fully functional panel on the unit any more).
On the flip side:
Loud. Less so than older similar units, but still noisy. Will add Db measurements when I get them.
Louvers: I can't understand how a flimsy Chinese portable unit like an SPT can have power louvers with remote control, oscillating and whatnot, while this supposedly branded thing would have louvers that are sticky in their vertical movement, to the point of making you afraid they'll break any time you touch them.
The remote looks like a total after thought. Yes, it is functional, it is smart, it actually allows you to use the remote as a temperature sensor (you can put it anywhere in the room and program it to get the remote's location temperature as the temperature main reading, not the sensor on the AC. Still, it's small, ugly, flimsy, un-ergonomic. Buttons are small, not back-lit, screen is not back-lit (and is small) all in all, it really feels like a "well thought afterthought" rather than like the remote on a Fujitsu or even a Sharp system.
Other than that, it's pure joy.
NOTE: We noticed a puddle of water gathering on the back of the unit. There is no drip hole. It will not drip inside the room (if you install the unite tilted the way it is supposed to be installed). I was ready to drill a drip hole, but tech support at Frigidaire told us this is meant to be this way, as the water is supposedly blown on the condenser to cool it further. Well, I still have my drill in case they are wrong.Strange smell coming from unit only after a few weeks of usage. Smells like mildew or rotten water. No way to contact seller in available options. Product cools the area, but smell is unbearable. I would return if given the option and go with a different AC unit.

Stovetop Smoker
The smoker is constructed from heavy steel and is well made. I could smell the smoke as the food cooked, but it wasn't intense and there was no smoke in the house. I'll still use my outdoor smoker for batch cooking or for smoking large birds, but expect to get a lot of use out of the stovetop smoker.I lived in a condo for years and really missed cooking outdoors and the tremendous flavor of food slow smoked in a smoker. I bought this awhile ago and have been pretty happy with it. It's stainless steel, durable and comes with samples of 4 different types of wood chips. You can buy more from Cameron international or Amazon.com. I use it all the time and never have any problems with smoke filling up the kitchen and the smoke detector never goes off. It's a closed unit so virtually all of the smoke stays inside. If there is a problem with smoke escaping, the instructions include tips on how to correct the problem. Usually, the lid just needs a little tweaking.
I think the first thing I smoked in it was salmon and let me tell you it was delicious! I have also smoked chicken, turkey wings, sweet potatoes, potatoes, shrimp, burgers, and cheese all with excellent results. I put the potatoes in the microwave for a few minutes to shorten the cooking time. The chicken doesn't brown as in a traditional outdoor smoker or grill but you can finish cooking it in the oven to brown it. If it's smoke flavor you are after, this is a very good alternative to outdoor smoking!
Cleaning the smoker is a breeze if you first spray the rack with cooking spray. Also if you line the base of the smoker and the drip pan with aluminum foil all you have to do is let it cool completely and dump the foil in the trash. This will help to keep your pans from getting black and shortens clean up time.As a city dweller, this is the best available product for smoking food indoors. Smoking is a wonderful cooking methodology which imparts flavor into food through the type of wood used and the smoke it produces.
To use the product, simply place the wood chips inside the base of the smoker and put the food that you wish to smoke in the tray on top. Virtually any food can be smoked. The guide that comes with the smoker provides suggestions for cooking times and a series of recipes to try. Or simply try your own. Personally, I love cooking pork loin ribs low (250 degrees) and slow (4 1/2 hours) in the oven in the smoker.
The smoker is made of heavy-duty stainless steel and can be washed in the dishwasher.

I'm not kidding this smoker has been a revolution in our kitchen. The most important thing is to understand that it is like a Dutch ovenso while your food is smoking it's also roasting. Salmon comes out roasted, but with the most wonderful smoke flavor pork ribs are more juicy than if you grill them, and you have to work to dry anything out (we over cooked venison chops thin meat doesn't need much time!). Most foods cook in 25 minutes although a full size chicken will smoke/roast for an hour and a half.We have a weekly dinner party and I've been running out of ideas this smoker has added an extensive list of options to the menu! I just ordered my second one as I'll need two for the quantity of foods I'm smoking. I use the smoker to make appetizers (smoked salmon pate, smoked wings, smoked sauces and veggies...) and I've used it to smoke all sorts of meats salmon, venison, chicken breasts, whole chickens, turkey breasts, pork ribs, baby back ribs... We spend our trips to the grocer looking for inspiration for our smoker!
The most surprising thing for me has been smoking vegetables. They come out moist, full of flavor and you would swear the rich smoke flavor should be adding calories! It's hard to believe something that tastes so rich could be healthy! Smoked asparagus, cauliflower, tomatoes, artichokes... fantastic!
I use a layer of foil over the top to add an extra seal for items to large for the space provided you just leave the lid off and make a foil tent (whole chickens and turkeys) it's very easy. We haven't had a smoky kitchen yet -
I've been sending these to my family for gifts if it's back ordered, trust me, it's worth the wait!
Have fun smoking!

This smoker works as advertised. With appropriate care and attention, you can easily smoke a wide variety of foods and ingredients. At the right temperature, the small leakage of smoke from the unit is not a problem. However, recognize that this is a HOT smoker. If you are looking to smoke meats and other ingredients for long-term preservation, this is not the unit to use. Because of its small size, with the heat turned high enough to produce adequate smoke, you will easily reach temperatures of 250-300 degrees inside the pan, hot enough to roast many meats and birds. Fresh ham slices, for example, while infusing a wonderful flavor from the smoke, will cook to well done and beyond if you're not careful. Certainly far beyond where I would want to cook them for use in bean and soup dishes.

Kishu Charcoal Pitcher Stick
During dry Summers the faucet water gets visibly cloudy and even smells, really disgusting.
Your choices are to buy bottled water or use a good filter.
Being urban I do not have a car so I have to carry everything from the grocery. Bottles are a nuisance and expensive. And aren't those plastic bottles some kind of oil petrified in a state hat doesn't bio degrade well anyway? So I use filters. I have Britta and PUR.
With Britta I have to guess when they are used up plus half of the Britta pitcher is the "drip tank." So for the given volume you get half as much water.
The faucet mounted PUR is handy and has a light to indicate when it is used up. How does it know? Anyway both are not inexpensive and both result in tossing more plastic.
I learned about the Kischu from a news story I stumbled on on a Denver television station. I bought a couple and tried one out.
I use a covered pitcher really a non-PABA water bottle.
I pour my glass of water then add new and put back in the refer.
I drink over a gallon of water a day and after 3 months I have boiled it once.
( It began to look grayish until boiled )
Seems to work fine, no bad taste and the water is clear and no plastic to carry out!
I recommend.I put my Kishu stick in my stainless steal water bottle that I take with me every where. No need to buy water in plastic bottles ever again. Thank you for such a perfect solution!

I started using Kishu about 6 months ago. WAY COOLER THAN A BRITA! My friends love it, no BPAs, and its got character. I just drop the charcoal in any pitcher I want and I'm good to go for a few months. I know the Japanese use products like this frequently (I saw a whole store devoted to different charcoals when I was in Tokyo). I'm surprised more people don't use it in the States. It's just so much more unique, inexpensive and flexible than any of the mainstream products currently on the market. And it does the same thing just as well, if not BETTER.Want Kishu Charcoal Pitcher Stick Discount?
