Boston 16 Inch Pedestal Fan, Metal, Black (25974)

Boston 16 Inch Pedestal Fan, Metal, BlackThis was easy to assemble, it's quiet, and moves a good amount of air on the high setting. I'm very pleased with it.

I live in New York City, and I bought one for summer time. The first pedestal fan that I received had a strange sound, a clicking sound when it was turning to the right, so I returned it and Amazon was great sending a new one that it didn't have any problem and I am satisfied with the product. For a small size apartment like in New York it's just fine, it is not noisy, easy to disassembled and clean. it is a good item.

BODUM Fyrkat Barbeque and Grill Tongs

Bodum Fyrkat Barbeque and Grill Tongs, OrangeI needed a pair of tongs and I have several of the other Bodum grilling tools (all great!!) so I ordered these. I'm somewhat disappointed in their functionality as they barely open. The neutral (unsqueezed) position is about 3/4 to half an inch open, and then you can squeeze them all the way shut from there. But they do not open any wider, which makes them kind of useless for a lot of applications.

The Fyrkat tongs look & work great, we've had them over a year & are quite content. Admittedly, it took us 2 grilling sessions to realize we hadn't opened them properly -once you pull the release, they open wide to get a nice grab! The mechanism to keep them in a closed position helps keep them storage friendlyno opening in the drawer.

4.5 stars. It's a good, long one with good reach and well made. Has a nice, comfortable handle. Only thing, the teeth/grip could be more aggressive but other than that this is almost a perfect set of barbecue tongs. I've looked at a lot of them. This is one of the better ones here among the large variety.

Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 18-Inch by 10-Inch Double Burner Griddle with Pour Spout and

Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 18-Inch by 10-Inch Double Burner Griddle with Pour Spout and Mini Stainless TurnerSUMMARY

-----------

To cut to the chase Anolon has changed some things about this griddle since I bought mine in 2007, but I still highly recommend it. I love the size, the ease of cleaning, and the ability to place it in the oven up to 400F. The metal turner that comes with this is also high quality like the other Anolon utensils that I've purchased. The metal turner has left some marks on the griddle, but the non-stick performance is so far unchanged.

VIDEO (Really?)

------------------

"A video review of a GRIDDLE?! Seriously?" I hear ya. :D You certainly don't need to watch it to get my recommendation...but you do need to watch it to see my dog Niki. :) (I recommend the outtake at the end.) I just wanted to make this video because I've owned a set of Anolon Advanced cookware, including this griddle, for five years now and I love them. In particular, I love the double burner griddle. I really can't say that strongly enough. I've used it countless times to make pancakes with outstanding results. The coating has stood up wonderfully for over five years of stove and oven use on all of the cookware, as have the handles.

This new griddle is a little different, though, so I couldn't just say that it'll work and last the same way. While the coating has the same name, now the coating is listed as being metal-utensil safe, so I put it to the test. Also, this new griddle is about 50% thinner than the older one, meaning that it's lighter weight (which is nice) but also potentially slightly less even in cooking. Also, at least on the two griddles that I have, the coating on the new griddle is not as smooth or shiny as it is on my original one.

COOKING TESTS

-------------------

I've only cooked pancakes on my original griddle and have only used nylon utensils. To test out the new griddle, I wanted to do more than pancakes to give a fuller review, as well as use the included metal turner. So far, I've baked bread sticks from fresh dough in the oven at 375F, cooked pancakes (two and three at a time), cooked scrambled eggs, and reheated pizza slices on the stove. For the most part, everything turned out great. I have two things that I want to note, though:

(*) After cooking the egg, I noticed marks on the surface of the griddle (shown in the video). After experimenting with the turner, I found that these were caused by scraping with the turner flipped over. I was still using the front flat edge, and I can't see or feel any burrs on that edge, but it will leave marks with even slight amounts of pressure.

(*) I cooked three pancakes at a time (one over each burner area and one in between) to check how even the cooking was. All of them came out great, but it was clear that the heating was uneven over the surface of the griddle, being cooler in between the burners. Perhaps due to the thinner construction, but I can't say for sure. Still good, IMO, but not perfect.

METAL-SAFE?

---------------

So, is the coating metal safe? I'd say, "mostly." Scraping the scrambled egg with the turner flipped around left marks, so I just tried scraping the griddle with the turner while not cooking. When using the turner right-side up, it left no marks. Flipped over, it marked with very little pressure. I can't see or feel any burrs on the turner, so I'm not sure why. However, the marks are definitely there. The nice thing is that they seem to be purely aesthetic. The non-stick performance has not been affected.

VERDICT

----------

I still give this a very high set of marks. The marks caused by the metal turner are aesthetic and don't seem to have affected the non-stick performance at all. I'll likely switch to using my Anolon nylon utensils, though.

I've read where this model doesn't work well on flat-surface stoves because it's not completely flat, but I can't address that. It works wonderfully on my gas stovetop, and I imagine it's the same on raised electric burners.

The turner that is included is much nicer than I had expected it to be, and although it's called "mini," it's a good size even for flipping pancakes.

Overall, highly recommended.

This Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick Griddle looks almost identical to the KitchenAid Gourmet Hard Anodized Nonstick 18" x 10" Double Burner Griddle, but there are differences that make the KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle my favorite.

The KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle has sides that are sloped less so it is easier to get your turner under pancakes to flip, but still high enough to keep a dozen scrabbled eggs contained. The Anolon Griddle has straiter sides so you have to spend more time digging the scrambled eggs out of the edges.

The KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle has handles that set away from the sides than the Anolon Griddle, making it cooler for me to grab and move.

The Anolon Griddle says it is able to handle metal utensils and the KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle does not, but I already have all nylon, silicone and bamboo utensils for my other nonstick cookware so this doesn't really mean much to me. It is not worth the extra money that Anolon charges for their griddle; $48 vs. $62 at the time of this review.

The KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle has noticeably superior nonstick coating as far as food slipping off the surface. The Anolon griddle surface feels ever so slightly gritty compared to the KitchenAid.

To test these I had them side by side on my stove and cooked identical batches of scrambled eggs and pancakes for 27 people for breakfast over Thanksgiving weekend, so they got quite the workout.

I took off one star for inferior surface and another star off for price related to value of product. If they were damaged or lost, I would pay to replace the KitchenAid Gourmet Griddle.

PS FYI: The metal turner that comes with this griddle has a curved tip, so it is much less useful than a strait edged turner, they should have made it with a strait edge and had the corners be the same shape as the pan's corners for you could use it to dig out food from the pan's edges easier. Unimpressed.

After using this product for the last few months, I can say that it is sturdy and handles well. I still prefer to use non-metal utensils. I'm not totally sold on any product being scratch proof enough for the non-stick surface to be resilient.

When placed over two small burners, the centre section is about 10 degrees cooler. The temperature differencial is good for cooking eggs while bacon/sausage is cooking on the ends. I also prefer to use it to make toast instead of a toaster. All-in-all, great so far.

This griddle is pretty much perfect. It heats evenly, the nonstick works like a charm, it cleans very easily, and the pour spout drain thingie in the corner has saved me a lot of bacon grease mishaps. Most importantly for me, though it is LIGHT. Incredibly light, especially if you have any cast iron pans to compare it to. I love my cast iron, but lifting them on/off the stove and in/out of the sink is a serious workout! I've used the griddle about 8 or 9 times so far (for grilled sandwiches, burgers, bacon and pancakes), and it looks good as new. Great product.

My favorite double griddle of all time was the KitchenAid non-stick enamel. I was so sad when they discontinued that item. Enter the Anolon double griddle. As much as I loved the KitchenAid version, this one has one several advantages:

1. Longevity. I went through two of the KitchenAid version even with very careful treatment. I never put it in the dishwasher and never used metal utensils with it. Still the non-stick surface degraded fairly rapidly for such a high priced item.

2. Metal utensils will not destroy the non-stick surface

3. For folks with enamel stovetops the Anolon double griddle has an added appeal: it won't adhere to your stove if you don't use a "bridge"

The only cons I can come up with, but don't keep me from loving this:

1. Cannot be washed in the dishwasher (this isn't a con for me, but may be for others)

2. It doesn't seem to hold the heat quite so well and my former double griddles, but this is not a deal breaker.

Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor Grill

Health Smart Open Faced Indoor/ Outdoor GrillThis is a great grill for those who like to grill steaks but cannot use a gas/charcoal outdoor grill for whatever reason. The last apartment I lived would not allow ANY grilling outdoors (which is really sick as I live in South Florida and it is currently the only US region that is not freezing this Jan 2, 2009 with the exception of Hawaii). I was skeptical at first but this grill does great work on those thick sirloin steaks we buy at Costco. I had mine for probably 7-8 years 1-2 times a week before it recently just quit heating up. The non-stick surface had worn away some time ago but who cares it still cooked great steaks. That's pretty much all I used it for other than toasting garlic bread.

I didn't even realize you could use it outdoors until I starting searching online for it this week.

It is not the same as a gas or charcoal grill. I have a charcoal grill at my building where I live now but by the time you lug the charcoal, fluid, utensils, etc down the elevator to the community grill, light the coals and then WAIT for them to get red hot, we still use this little grill more often. You don't have to have all the planets aligned to use this one on a weeknight (weather, charcoal, fluid, and TIME!).

I don't know why people complain about it being slow I always used the highest setting and could sear and grill 1-2 inch thick steaks to medium well in 20 minutes. I have never owned a gas grill so I can't compare, but it's a whole lot easier, convenient & faster than charcoal grilling that's for sure. You can't get the taste of over the fire grilling of course, but they sure are tasty in their own right when I shake granulated garlic and freshly grind black pepper on the steaks before grilling.

We bought this grill after a friend used it when we were over for dinner. It is slower than a charcoal/gas grill, but really does a fine job on the food. It is large enough for 4 nice-sized steaks, but not so large as to be difficult to handle/store. The grills went right into the dishwasher, unrinsed, and came out clean as a whistle. When the weather is nice, we plug it in outside on the porch. Otherwise, I just use it on the kitchen counter. Just be a little bit patient, and you will get the hang of cooking times (as opposed to a regular outdoor grill).

I have actually owned the Hamilton Beach Indoor/Outdoor Grill twice in the last ten years. The first one I bought in Germany while married to a soldier and living in military housing. I made the mistake of giving it away once we transferred back to the United States when I became interested in the George Foreman indoor grills. What I did not like about the two-sided George Foreman indoor grills is that when you closed the lid, oftentimes food might fall out--particulary if you were making shiskabobs or wanted to cook a lot of food at one time. You also could not really see what was going on between the lids. With the Hamilton Beach you have plenty of surface to put as many as six skewers of food on. You can watch the food cook, know when to turn it over and even grill some vegetables on the side. I learned to line the bottom of the grill with foil and to prepare the grill with cooking spray to make cleanup easier. Another thing that helps is after you are done cooking, unplug the grill, wet some paper towels and put them on the grill while it is still warm. It makes cleanup a breeze. Additionally I also do not understand why some say it takes a long time to heat up the grill. This is certainly not true with mine. It only takes a few minutes. All in all I would really recommend this indoor grill especially to those of us who live in apartments that do not allow outdoor grilling of one's own.

This is a great product. I rarely use my gas fired grill anymore. It's very easy to clean as well. Several of my friends purchased them and they love them as well. I have not had a problem with insufficient heat as reported elsewhere. The adjustable heat control works fine. All in all we are very satisfied with this grill.

Rosle Locking Kitchen Tongs

Rösle 12916 12' Locking TongsAre you looking for the best? These are the way to go! Beautifully crafted and extremely functional. Thick 18/10 stainless steel material with brushed chrome handles and bright chrome scalloped "claws". They scream quality. They are very sturdy, tough and will not twist or warp one bit when you squeeze tightly to hold a heavy object. They are precise when picking up very small or thin items. I find them to be preferable to the silicone tipped model because the extra thickness of the silicone interferes with the precise pick up ability of thin items. You will not cut or pinch your fingers because of the way they are designed and the edges have been smoothed. I really like the secure grip these have when picking up anything that is paper thin to items that are heavy or bulky. The one hand locking/unlocking operation is magnificent! From the locked position simply tilt the tongs down and squeeze and release to open. To lock tilt up and squeeze. The 12" length is the perfect size for versatility and most cooking applications. I was worried they would be a little too long for easy operation but I was wrong. At first I was looking at the 9" length but decided to try the 12". After using the 12" I found them not to be too bulky at all and realized the 9" would have been less versatile and too small for most cooking applications. They would not open wide enough to pick up large items and your hand would be too close to hot items and the fire when cooking. The only con I have with these tongs is that I would like them to open 1/2" to 1" wider. The other night I went to pick up a very large artichoke from my pressure cooker and had difficulty fitting the tongs around it. A normal size artichoke would have been fine for the width the tongs will open. If you look at the picture what you see is the tongs fully opened. These tongs may be slightly difficult for arthritic hands to operate because they are spring loaded to hold them open and require a little bit of grip pressure/strength to operate. For the average person it will be no problem what so ever. I think I would like to try the Rosle 16" tongs for the BBQ with their extended reach over a hot fire yet with the same distinguished attributes as the 12". They may also open slightly wider so I could more easily grab hold of that extra large artichoke! I highly recommend these 12" Rosle Locking Tongs to people looking for the highest quality, magnificent one hand operation, precision functionality and those of average hand strength to operate them easily.

I have tried a large number of Tongs, including models from All Clad, KitchenAid, OXO, Weber, etc. My favorite were the Oxo good grips until these came along. I've been using these over the past 6 months.

Pro's:

1.) They are elegant, nicely constructed with just the right weight.

2.) The one handed locking mechanism has surpassed my expectations and works as well as it did on day one.

3.) Very secure grip, you can apply as much pressure as you want and they will not wane. Some of the others I have would twist slightly on high pressure.

4.) The scalloped shape of the clasps is just the right compromise for a variety of foods.

Con's:

1.) The price is high for the amount of metal. Though the finish quality is fantastic. I think you get what you pay for in this case.

I've used a lot of tongs, including the OXO brand. Believe me, there is a reason for the price of these compared to the other brands. They are just superbly crafted. First, they grip everything perfectly. I use them to turn shrimp and chops, lift a roast out of the pan, and toss pasta with sauce. And, maybe the best part is that they really do require only ONE HAND to operate (I didn't really believe that until I used them), and there is no possibility of pinched fingers. They are just a joy to use. Worth every penny.

If you only buy one pair of tongs in your life, these should be the ones. They are built well and as advertised can be used with "one" hand which is important when you're multi-tasking at the Bar-B. Great product, pricey for tongs but well worth the price considering you could have a drawer full of cheap ones which I HAD. Down to one pair now.

A pleasure to use. Being able to lock and unlock the tongs with only one hand takes about a dozen uses to get used to. Like a DVR, you can never go back. These are neatly in the drawer every time I reach for them, then open as I am reaching to grab/flip. I know of nothing else like it.

Nordic Ware Grand Reversible Griddle

Nordic Ware Grand Reversible GriddleI purchased this griddle to cook meat and vegetables with score marks, similar to an outdoor grill.

First use: I had the heat on medium high and preheated the griddle. My raw meat was marinated in Italian dressing ahead of time. With cooking underway, the meat stuck to the griddle. I waited some time to give the meat a chance to release itself, just like I do outside on the grill. No luck I had to pry it off. Plus, the Italian dressing and meat juices scorched onto the recessed griddle areas between the grill ribs.

I spent ten minutes cleaning it with a sponge, scratch pad, and lots of elbow grease. Nearly impossible to clean in between the grill ribs. The griddle itself does not fit in the dishwasher, so forget that idea...

Returned it for a refund.

This was a shot in the dark. Make sure not to cook more than 4 slices of bacon at a time, the grease will collect and get almost over filling with 6 slices. Be very careful when it gets full of hot grease. Eggs cook ok. There are better units out there.

Great way to cook for my family without the large electric gridle to store. The heating is not exactly even between the two burners but much better than I expected. Great product.
