Ordered this to be part of a tool we make, found it really was not quite strong enough. I would guess it would be fine for a BBQ fork, the use for which it was intended!

It has become almost impossible to fine lighters for gas ranges and outdoor grills that don't use butane. And the butane lighters that are on the market have become impossible to operate for anybody with hand weakness or arthritis. I'm pretty big and strong and it is very hard for me to operate any of the best-known brands.

So I was really pleased to see a lighter using a piezoelectric mechanism, and from a company I know well as a supplier of good camping accessories.

These lighters do not need batteries; they produce a small spark when you press a button that causes a small crystal to release enough electrical charge. Dependable mechanism. No butane needed, nothing. Takes very little force. The lighters are designed for ease of use.

The only problem is the small size of the spark. It has to be placed in just the right place to ignite a gas flame. I would rather have one of the older, nolonger-available battery-operated lighters. But these will do and I like them.

Overall, a very good and useful product. Highly recommended.

I got this lighter because we have an antique stove and the burners need to be lit. I used to use a fueled lighter and I was using a leaky one without knowing it and it blew up on top of the stove. I was in the ER for 4 hours and lost my eyebrows. I was lucky! Never again will I use one of those.

Yes you need to use this just right. The spark comes out towards one side, not the center. Put that side by the gas. Works well!

YMMV but it doesn't have the least bit of trouble lighting my gas stove burners. It doesn't seem to make any difference precisely where I put the tip or how I orient it it seems to be able to light the gas regardless. A big improvement in safety and ease of use over having to hold a conventional butane lighter right next to the burner.

I had this item for only 2 months before it stopped sparking. Even when it did spark, my wife had a hard time lighting the stove; I had more luck. But the fact that it stopped working altogether is a real bummer. Wish I could return it.

I got this for lighting my propane torch and Bunsen burner. I am very pleased with the lighter. It doesn't make a flame itself it just provides the spark to light a gas burner. It's very easy to use You put the end in the stream where the gas burner will be burning and push the button on the sparker a few times until the flame catches. I like this enough that I plan to get another one for the garage too.

By the way, it's a heck of a lot cheaper to buy propane torches without the built-in piezo sparker and buy the sparker separately. If you have two hands that's the way to go!

The wood chunks shipped and arrived very quickly. The packaging was good and the wood chunks were in a very durable sealed plastic bag so I know that they are fresh. Smoked out a Boston Butt with the chips and got awesome flavor. Just wish there were more of them. Packaging seemed to take away from the amount of chunks and for the price I really wanted to get another smoke session out of the chips. However....great flavor and fresh.

Easy Off - Fume Free - Trigger 6/16 oz

I still haven't used this in an oven, just on soap scum on a tub. At first I used the aerosol can versions on a shower stall. It worked magnificently, but it takes too much care as the can has to be held almost perfectly upright. I decided to give this spray bottle version a try.

It works very magnificently also. That tub is clean clean clean. One of the really nice things is that you can take the top off the bottle and apply the stuff directly (wear gloves). Anyways, apply cleaner, wait a while, rinse it away. A scrub brush helps speed the rinse away process. The tub in this case was a standard porcelain coated tub.

I've tried a lot of cleaners on soap scum but never oven cleaner. My previous favorite is now off the market. That's why I had to search for something new. Easy-off works better than anything else that I've ever tried.

Warning... This stuff isn't completely fume free. Using so much oven cleaner in a smallish space proves that. Be sure to keep the area well ventilated and/or use a respirator.

Although I appreciate the fume free product, the nozzle is always getting clogged. Otheer than that, it does clean the oven well.

I have used the aerosol version of this product, and I must say I wanted this product to be as strong and effective in removing baked on grease and restoring the clean stainless steel finish to my oven pans, but it didn't. If you are looking for a product that will remove a one day stain from your oven or pots and pans this is it. But for any hard to remove baked on cleaning go with the original heavy duty spray aerosol, that I'm going to purchase immediately after leaving this product review. I tried to protect the environment with this one, and failed.

This is the perfect size for a single grilled sandwich or a sole boneless chicken breast or file for one.

Other than now being totally depressed over the fact that I apparently eat alone way too often, I have to rave that this pan cooks well and heats evenly, cleans up with little muss (use a non-abrasive cleanser, very hot water and a dish brush for anything trickier than grease) and stores virtually anywhere.

Another bonus for this is that it makes perfect, square crepes -which I use instead of boxed pasta tubes (a motherland no-no) when making fresh manicotti.

Which I also seem to do in great number, surprisingly often for a guy who admittedly makes a regular habit of the Lonely Gal Meal Alone in the Dark.

We have this type of fry pan in Scotland only the round one and love it. We decide to go with the square one in the USA. The description in two places talks about the glass lid that can withstand high temps in the oven. Except, there is no lid. What good is a grill for the top of your stove or oven with no lid??? When I called customer service, for one, I am sure I was speaking to someone out of this country, which was hard to understand what they were saying, and second, no explanation as to why it says there is a lid but there isn't. No explanation, just, we will e-mail you a return label!!! I am usually very happy with Amazon, but this whole experience was not. And by the way, this was shipped from Amazon!!!

Chefs Basics HW4113 3-Piece Stainless-Steel Barbecue Set with Aluminum Storage Case

I bought this for two reasons, one it was cheaper than most, and two it was all metal. I use them specifically for camping, and I have to say I'm happy I got one with a case. I like the fact they are all metal because there is nothing to melt from the camp fire, and they are also very easy to clean. The case is great when hauling to the site, and keeping bugs out.

Great price, great little set. The straps and velcro that hold the items in the case are a bit cumbersome. Other than that, this is a nice cheap set, perfect for the occasional barbecuer.

This would be a nice set for folks who BBQ on a small charcoal grill. Not at all useful for medium or larger grills of any type. The handles are so short that you would be burned from the heat. Although this was a nice looking set and came in an attractive box, I ended up returning it because it was useless for our larger gas grill.

I've had many indoor grills, this one outshines all of them! It is a large grill, with space enough for four burgers, sandwiches, chicken thighs or breasts, etc. It heats up fast with minimal, if any smoke. I love the timer option and control of the temperature. It is super easy to clean and the removable plates fit nicely in the dishwasher. The drip tray is huge and located where it should be, in the back, so when you open up your grill while cooking, the grease goes in it and not on your counter or under the grill. This is a bonus safety measure which I describe in detail later on in this review.

The cooking quality is excellent. One of the reviewers complained about how poorly his chicken and steak turned out. I do not understand that, he must have cooked at the wrong temperatures (too hot), because we've had perfect results every time. It doesn't taste like steamed anything, but like grilled food. And yes, it makes a mean panini sandwich!

This grill is well made with quality parts. The only part that is questionable is the adjustable height knob, which is plastic, and I could see this breaking down the road, since we use this grill daily. I called customer service about it, and they said should it break, they would send out a new part, no problem. Good to know.

This grill looks so good on the counter, that I leave it there. It does not look tacky like the other models out there, where I found myself wanting to hide them right after use.

There was a huge fire hazard defect on a no-name cusinart model that I bought from Walmart for $50, which occurred well after the warranty ended. That grill ended up in the trash can. What happened with it is the grease leaked underneath whenever I opened it while cooking, melting the plastic that housed the wires, leaving the wires exposed. Thankfully I caught this before anything bad happened. So, when I looked for my next grill, I specifically looked for one that addressed this issue (the grease leaking underneath whenever you open the grill while cooking). The Calphalon addresses this issue with the drip tray in the back. Other grill makers need to follow suit!

The price tag seemed high to me, but it does come with a much better warranty than other models, it is made from higher quality parts, and it looks like something one would see in a professional kitchen. My husband is a chef, and is extremely happy with this grill as well. I'm not one known to buy high-end appliances, but in this case I did and can honestly say that I have no regrets. I highly recommend this grill!

JULY 18th 2010: UPDATE

I just wanted to update and let everyone know that after daily use for well over a year, I can happily report my Calphalon indoor grill is still going strong!

Cleanup is still a breeze and the coating is still perfect. After you cook on it and the plates have cooled down, place the plates in the sink and spray a little water on them, let them soak for a few minutes. Then rinse. I have never had anything clean as easily as these plates!

I read that some people have problems with the front panel coming off or knobs breaking. I haven't had that happen. I'm wondering if there was a bad batch of these, and somehow I lucked out. I bought my grill from Amazon, if that helps. Everything still works like a charm and we put this grill through its paces!

Someone mentioned the top plate coming off while they were cooking. They must not have put it on correctly. If it doesn't snap in, it isn't on there right. Be careful with that.

My grill heats up in about 5 minutes. No problems there. I love the timer. 350 degrees seems to be a magic temperature for me. I cook almost everything at that setting. This is a wonderful grill. I'm very happy we splurged last year and bought it.

ANOTHER UPDATE: OCTOBER 11, 2012

I just read the latest reviews and noticed how many people are leaving bad reviews for this grill. I am wondering if I have the same grill? Perhaps the company started using inferior parts? It is strange to see so many people having problems with this grill. So, I think that if I were looking for a grill right now and saw all of these reviews I would not buy this one. Obviously something is different about the grill I bought from Amazon and the grill everyone is getting. It's a shame. They had something great here. I am grateful my grill is still going strong, which it is, but now I am worried about how many people bought this grill because of my glowing review, only to receive an inferior product? I know I am a firm believer in looking at reviews on Amazon before buying anything. So, even though I am still enjoying this grill and it has been perfect for me, I think I would stay clear of this grill now, seeing all of the bad reviews.

I received one of these for my birthday, approximately nine months ago. I specifically wanted this one because I have had positive experiences with their cookware.

This is one of the best you can buy in this price range. It has a generous size, and gets hot enough for many things. The plates are removable, a big plus. One reviewer correctly pointed out that this grill does not get hot enough to grill a steak satisfactorily -which is quite true. I cooked chicken breasts, boneless pork chops, bratwurst and sandwiches and it worked great. It has a cheesy plastic slider locking mechanism to hold the top and bottom together that looks like it will break at some point. Otherwise, it has a very nice look and can be stored vertically.

Okay here it is the "but" as hinted in my title. After less than 16 uses the nonstick finish simply started coming off. I hand wash the plates with a sponge and was surprised to see this happening; it was simply sloughing off with little force.

I shipped back the defective plates (at my expense) to the manufacturer (I believe they have a 5 year warranty), and didn't hear anything from them for two months. I called and a very nice person told me that they were back ordered, but I would get mine in a week or so. That was 4 weeks ago. This will mean that I have waited for 3 months, and before that I had use of it for 5 months. Of course, I have to wonder if and when replacement plates arrive whether they will hold up any better, and will I have to wait 3 months or more again for replacement plates.

So....I am looking at other grills now.

But first, time for another call.

I recently purchased this item from Amazon.com. I have wanted one for months (I have tried many others that were junk). When it finally arrived it had scratches on the top and a small dent in the front chrome. The handle was ill fitting and it was obvious that it was ground down to fit the right side. The plastic underpart had small chunks broken out of it. All of this was done BEFORE ever being packed. Typical Chinese quality! That said: The temperature and timer markings are small and hard to read. The knobs are kludgy and hard to grasp. HOWSOMEVER! It cooks just near perfectly. I am truly amazed at the non-stick coating; all you need is a little warm water and a few swipes with a sponge and the grills are perfectly clean. I have never seen a product like it before. I think they said the coating is made by GE. Would I recommend it: A qualified -YES but the price should be somewhat lower. At least it isn't obscene like that Cusinart junk is. That is another story. This grill replaces a Cusinart!!

I read the reviews after I bought the HE600CG. I was wondering what they were talking about. I could read the dials, it looks well made. It looks like it belongs in a restaurant rather than a kitchen. It has a better (than the Cusinart and Foreman) warranty , including 5 yrs on the non-stick coating. It cleaned up great and took no longer to heat up than the Foreman I replaced it with.

Then I realized that some of the reviewers wanted the carmelized meat they get on an outdoor grill. They prefer burnt carbon over fully cooked meat. Sure.. it looks different. It also looked different in my Foreman grill. But no red juices, so it is cooked. Of course, I did the math and figured out to cook it longer than the recommended time. I would start at 12 minutes at 450 degrees if you have a full thick breast.

I liked the timer. It actually shuts the unit off. It is better made than the Cusinart GR4. Side by side, you see the differences. I like being able to adjust the height of the top plate. The Cusinart GR4 has to cups that are easy to slide away or fall and leave a mess on the countertop. There are also drainage issues with the GR4, read the reviews on the GR4.

This is definitely the Rolls Royce of indoor grills. My panel has not fallen off, no dents and the no-stick surface cleaned with the wipe of a wet paper towel. Everything is as advertised.

I guess it is all about expectations. Some people want burnt(carmelized) meat. My chicken breast came out just fine. Pale, yes, but cooked and healthy.(Sorry...no burnt carbon). Moist,not dry,or spongy. I made the right choice for me. What you want, may be different.

BTW I still am trying to figure out what a panini is. LOL

With much anticipation and with lots of success with other Calphalon products, I purchased this table top grill to replace the ridiculous to clean George Foreman. It is a beauty of a machine and the removeable grill plates are truly the easiest thing in the world to clean. Non-stick on steriods. That is about where all the excitement ends. I tried to cook a couple of average size chicken breasts at the recommended time of 5-8 minutes after preheating for 10 mins. The machine left some great looking grillmarks but the rest of the meat was pale. I cut open a breast and it appeared to be cooked but tasted spongy. Mark's review is dead on with the "steamed taste" description. So I left them on for another 10 mins to no avail. They never tasted cooked. Had to finish them off in the oven. Back to the store with this contraption. Very dissappointing.

Whirlpool 4396710P KitchenAid PUR Push Button Cyst-Reducing, Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter

I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles.

This filter fits my Kenmore Elite side by side which takes the Sears 9030 filter and at almost half the price. The only difference in this filter is it does not say Stage II or Kenmore. The water tastes exactly the same to me as when I used the Sears brand and I am very aware of the water taste since we have hard, extremely chlorinated water in my area. I wish I had found these filters 4 Sears brand filters ago ... serious $$$ savings!

I bought my whirlpool refrigerator from sears in 2006. Sears sent me a reminder through mail that I need to replace my filter. I almost ordered the part through the sears.com website because this particular filter was not available through the sears store or through their parts center. I went to the sears.com website and their price was $60.59($44.98part+ $4.62tax+$10.99shipping). Then I thought about checking amazon.com to see if this filter was available, and it was, for a much lower cost to me. My total was $41.98($34.99part+$6.99shipping). I ordered the filter on May30 and received it through usps on June2. Replacing the filter was easy just pop out the old one, transfer the filter cap from the old filter to the new one, and pop the new filter assembly back in. The old filter was dripping water, so I took it over to the sink to shake out the water and out came some rust colored water and small pieces of debris which would have been in my drinking water if it had not been filtered out by the filter. So it is a good idea to replace the filter on a regular basis.

Some interesting Facts not all know: Why to change your filter...

Eventually the AC filter (Active Carbon) loses its ability to remove contaminants, because it becomes clogged with material. In the case of taste and odor, the time to change the filter is easy to detect. However, in the case of other contaminants, it is more difficult to determine when the filter is no longer performing at an adequate level. Most manufacturers recommend a filter change after a certain volume of water has passed through the filter. Some AC units actually meter the water and automatically shut down after a specific quantity of water has passed through the filter. A general rule of thumb for high-volume AC filters is to change the filter after six months of use or 1000 gallons of filtered water. Tests done by Rodale Press Product Testing Department indicated that filtering performance was reduced dramatically after 75 percent of the manufacturer's recommended life time. These results suggest that filters should be changed more often than suggested by the manufacturer. Some AC filters are claimed to last for five years, because they are rechargeable with hot water (145 degrees F). The heat is supposed to release adsorbed organic chemicals. Little information is available on the prolonged effectiveness of rechargeable AC units. General recommendations are somewhat useful quidelines, but there is no guarantee that they apply to any specific situation. Remember, the only certain way of knowing whether contaminant levels are acceptable or not is by having your water tested.

A sediment filter installed ahead of any AC filter will prolong the life of the AC unit. Sediment can easily clog the pores of an AC filter within a short period of time. A good sediment filter can be purchased for only a fraction of the price of most high volume AC filters.

The Bacteria Issue

AC filters can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The organic chemicals that are adsorbed to the AC are a source of food for various types of bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are those that cause human diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Public water systems must treat for disease causing bacteria; therefore, the likelihood of disease causing bacteria being introduced to an AC filter from public drinking water is remote. AC filtration should only be used on water that has been tested and found to be bacteria free or effectively treated for pathogenic bacteria.

Other types of non-pathogenic bacteria that do not cause diseases have been regularly found in AC filters. There are times when high amounts of bacteria (non-pathogenic) are found in water filtered through an AC unit. Research by R. L. Caldron and E. W. Mood (1987) shows little risk to healthy people that consume high amounts of non-pathogenic bacteria. We regularly take in millions of bacteria every day from other sources. However, there is some concern for certain segments of the population, such as the very young or old and people weakened by illness. Some types of non-pathogenic bacteria can cause illness in those whose natural defenses are weak. Flushing out bacteria that have built up in the filter can be accomplished by running water through an AC filter for about 30 seconds prior to use. Water filtered after the initial flushing will have much lower levels of bacteria and ingestion of a high concentration of bacteria will have been avoided. The flushing procedure is most important in the morning or any other time of the day when the filter has not been used for several hours.

Some compounds of silver have been used as disinfectants. Silver has been added to certain AC filters as a solution to the bacteria problem. Unfortunately, product testing has not shown silver impregnated AC to be much more effective in controlling bacteria than normal AC filters. Only in the first month of operation did there appear to be any advantage to using an AC filter that contained silver.

EPA requires registration of all types of water treatment equipment that contain an active ingredient for the purpose of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Registration does not guarantee that the product is effective. It only guarantees that the active ingredient will not leach from the filter at levels that would be a health hazard.

WIth all due respect to the reviewer who complained that the cost of 20 cents/day was unreasonable and excessive, this filter does an amazing job and is a fantastic bargain, **especially** when compared to bottled water and manufactured ice. We've had our new KitchenAid fridge for just a little over 6 months, and we've been delighted with the sparkly-clean, crisp, tasteless water & ice that this filter enables it to dispense. Especially since we live in a "hard-water" area, where the stuff coming from your tap, while acceptable, leaves a faint, gritty mineral taste. I used to "splurge" on store-bought ice several times/year for parties and special occasions, just because it tasted so much better. (Or rather, didn't taste like anything at all -which is of course the point.) Since we've had this fridge, with this filter, I've never needed to spend extra on bagged ice OR bottled water, because the ice & water thru this filter are every bit as good. The acid test? I could fill a clean plastic bottle with the water from this filter, and let it sit at room temperature for a day or more, and it still tastes just as good warm as if it were freshly dispensed. That same exercise with our regular tap water would've resulted in a nasty, nose-wrinkling, mineral stew as soon as the chill was gone. Another nice advantage this filter has over bottled water is that it does NOT filter out cavity-preventing fluoride, whereas most (all?) bottled waters do.

I was disappointed in the quality and color of this grill pan. Color looked more brown than red. I have used it only once and it worked satisfactorily. It is very heavy, which I expected; however, if I had to do it over again, I would look for one with a handle and pour spout as well.

Paula Deen Porcelain Square Griddles

I bought the griddle about four months ago and after infrequent use, maybe once or twice a week, the red rubber coating started to bubble up and flake off, like old paint. I usually handwash, but now the entire underside of the handle has flaked off. It is a black plastic underneath and the griddle is still usuable, but it looks terrible and that is the reason I bought the cookware, because I loved the way it looked. Calling the Customer Relations number for the supposed lifetime warranty service only gets you to a recording with an address to ship the cookware back for their INSPECTION. If they deem you did nothing wrong, they may send you a replacement. The postage for the griddle would be about half of what it would cost to buy a new one. But, I don't plan on buying any more Paula Deen products.

We love the pan. However, the ceramic coating is not ideal for flat or glass-top ranges. That might be a good thing to add to the product description.

After only a few, very few uses this pan warped horribly, it is useless and customer relations is even worse. I have a Paula Dean baking sheet that stained after only one use. I think I am done with Paula's products.

I LOVE this griddle! The coating Paula Deen has put on her pans is wonderful!!! I switched from another brand name pots & pans to Paula Deen pots & pans because of the coating. You need very little oil/shortening when frying, which is a real plus! I highly recommend her pots & pans. In fact I showed them to my daughter and she tried them and switched to Paula Deen also!

Air King 9145 6-Inch 2-Speed Clip-On Fan

I purchased this fan for my daughter because her west-facing room gets especially hot in the evenings, even with A/C on. We had another fan that was too loud for her and that vibrated terribly when we placed it up high enough so she could feel the wind from it. This fan was the perfect solution! We clipped it on her bed and she can adjust it herself from off to high or low. It is the quietest fan in our house by far and she can still hear her Mozart good night music, which we play quietly, over the fan. The fan is easy to angle or adjust as well and the clip is strong once you've placed it so it stays in place. We are really happy with this purchase and my husband who can't stand to hear a pin drop is considering getting one for himself.

Update: We ordered a second one in 2011 and it is not identical to the one we ordered in 2008, but it is still effective, though somewhat less quiet.

In my search for a fan for my tiny room, I had specific criteria:

1) Relatively inexpensive

The Air King 9145 on Amazon matched my criteria precisely. I got it for $25, shipped & no tax. I received it fairly promptly (could care less; shipping was free).

Anyways, the box is pretty no-thrills and that's the way it should be. It comes with:

1) Box

2) Paper manual (note: you can download the manual online by searching "air king 9145 user manual" and go paperless :)

3) Fan main assembly

4) Clip.

The fan can be mounted by using either the clip seen in the picture, or using a screw. The screw-mount is on the back of the fan clip. I personally mounted it using the clip. I found that hanging the fan upside down on a thin piece of wood doesn't really work well. You need a "chunky" place for the clip to get a good grip and hold it. I found best of both worlds with the top of my desk. A pole could work also.

The fan has 0-1-2 settings. The manual advertises the fan uses 9 watts on setting "1" and 13 watts on setting "2". I can confirm this is 100% correct using my killawatt(TM) device.

-Noise-

I personally don't like a lot of air blowing on my face, so I used setting "1" and I like it. It blows enough air to keep me/my laptop cool without drying my eyes. On setting 1, the fan is pretty quiet, even for very-very-noise sensitive people like. It is not "dead silent", but "quiet". Setting 2 is a bit louder and I don't like putting it on setting 2 for that reason.

The fan setting is adjusted on the back of the fan head. I find myself baffled as to why the company decided to do a "0-2-1" setting instead of "0-1-2" which is more logical. Now it takes me twice as many "clicks" to get to my setting. Not a big deal (for me especially, since I use a remote control to turn that outlet on).

The wiring feels nice and thick and the build quality feels solid. I wish the plug didn't use a "three prong", since I have to get a special extension cord for it. :-(

Other than that, what can I say? It performs very well. I am very pleased with this purchase and would do it again!

Pros:

4) Fan wiring is thick and solid! Fan feels high quality

Negatives:

1) Could be cheaper? ($25 shipped, no tax is reasonable IMO, but for a 6" fan still pricey for some)

2) Only comes in white. This is my biggest complaint. I guess I could use a primer/black spray paint, but it would be great if it came in black :)

3) Clip spring could be a bit stronger.

4) Plug is three pronged (sucks for getting an extension cord)
