Bayou Classic 7442 14" Square Cast Iron Reversible Griddle

This is a very robust piece of cookware. I give it a 3 star because realistically, you'll only be able to use one side, so pick which one you will want to use and stick to it. The reason is, once you've got one side all good and seasoned, when you flip it to use the other side, that seasoning you worked hard to get will warp and you have to start over; Also, whatever you cook on the other side will taste like stove burner because that's where it's been all this time!

This seems to be one of those products where the idea is much better than the reality of it. While seasoning the product per the instructions, this griddle warped pretty badly. It doesn't seem like anyone else has had this issue, so maybe I received a defective one, but nonetheless after I researched reversable griddles a bit there seems to a be a general consensus that they don't perform as well. While you have one side established and seasoned, as soon as you flip it and apply direct heat, it will diminish the other sides seasoning and can also cause the grease/seasoning to drip right onto your heat source. It can blacken glass stove tops etc. The handles also are completely flush to the sides and this thing is impossible to pick up once you lay it on a flat surface. It's also very heavy. I returned and got 1 flat and 1 grill griddle made by Lodge, so far they have performed much better, are lighter in weight, are already seasoned and I am not risking damaging them or my stove top.

This product is really good for making dosa, chappatti and other indian dishes. You need season the product first time, after that it is great. At present i seasoned this product(not fully done) but still makes restaurant style dosa in minutes

Charcoal Companion Ultimate Rectangular-Shaped Nonstick Grilling Basket

Hard to tell how something is made and works by seeing a small photo. I wanted something to grill small items like cut vegetables where I could close the grill top for more even cooking and smoke flavor and flip everything at once. Well, there seems to be 2 major problems. First, the wires do not form a tight grid for keeping smaller pieces from falling through, although that is what it looks like in the photo. Instead, they are pretty far apart (about 3/8 to 1/2 inch) and parallel--they only have 2 wires running crosswise at 90 degrees on each side. The grid look in the photo comes from the wires on the top and bottom running at 90 degrees to each other. SO LOTS OF STUFF FALLS THROUGH. Second, the handle requires a good grip and is in bad need of a locking device so you don't have to maintain the heavy grip on the basket when you flip and move it.

This said, the basket would probably be good for hardy cuts of fish and thick burgers--(thin delicate fish might have an issue being flipped with the thickness (interior height) of the basket). For cut veggies, it is pretty useless. Forget asparagus, cut peppers, cut onions, etc.

I needed a grilling basket to gril fish and veggies, and needed one with a removable handle for my gas grill. I've used it weekly since buying it and it works perfectly. I spray the food or the grill basket with cooking spray first because others reviewers report a problem with food sticking and no food sticks for me. Well, except for the marinated fish I burned, but that was my fault...

Great value for the price. Well-made, cleans up quickly in the kitchen sink (I would not put this in the dishwasher given that dishwasher detergent can be abrasive).

This is a nice grilling basket. I can't give it 5 stars because the handle can not stay on when cooking, if you choose to keep it on. I bought it because the handle does come off and it is a lot easier to wash in the dishwasher. The basket has side slots to insert the handle and you must squeeze the handle tight to keep it on or else it just comes off.

So far I only tried this cooking fish. The fish stuck to it so I guess I should have sprayed it with cooking spray. All in all, it is a nice grilling basket and deep enough to grill anything.

i used this basket for the first time last night. the size is just right on my average-sized weber gas grill, covering a little less than half of the grill's surface. the distance between the two basket halves is about 7/8" and held the jumbo shrimp, sliced pears & mangos, and tomatoes nicely. the spacing between the wires is about 3/8". this might allow smaller items to fall out, but cutting everything about 3/4" seemed to work fine. previously i had a basket with a non-detachable handle and gave it away after one use. not being able to close the grill to trap the smoke and flavors was a big negative. the detachable handle on this basket works fine, but it does take a bit of grip when turning, and i did use two hands when taking the grilled food back into the kitchen. it was a little tricky opening the hot basket to empty the grilled goods, but no big deal. not quite perfect, but close to it.

The Grilling basket is OK but for steaks, the meat needs to be very thick otherwise, they slide around when you move the basket. Have not tried it with fish probably same issue will apply, must be a thick cut or the fish will slide around inside when you move/flip the basket.

I don't know what the others reviewing this are using but it is not a good set of tongs. There is no spring so it doesn't open on its own. Never had a set of tongs that doesn't open without spring action. I returned the first set thinking it was defective. Second set was the same. They suck. Not sure who is giving these good reviews but be warned. Tongs need to have spring action to open unless u have some sort of miracle hands.

These appear to be very well made. They are very long but they grasp items easily. Better than I expected. I had some people over for a cookout and all of the men wanted to use them! I just purchased a previously owned townhome and needed to really clean the entire kitchen. I used an industrial grease remover and was unable to remove all the grime (YUK!!!). I had seen this product advertised and was skeptical; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The SteamFast SF-226 Handheld Steam Cleaner did an exceptional job. Following the use of the steamer, I was able to wipe down all surfaces in the kitchen. It worked great on the grout, stove-top, kitchen tile, floor tile, refrigerator, and woodwork. I highly recommend this little work horse!

Not much to say... it's a low end, handheld steam cleaner -meaning it can't compete in any way with professional models at twice the price. For the most past, it gets the job done. Set up took all of 5 minutes -fill with water, attach a nozzle, wait for the light to signal it's ready, and steam away!

Most people will probably use the main nozzle (as pictured) and attack the usual areas -bathroom, kitchen, and every other nook + cranny you can think of. It did a good job on all those areas.

It's light enough to carry around for a while, and the long power cord allowed for good flexibility. It removed most of the burnt-on grease inside the oven (though it took a few cycles).

As to be expected with a basic model, it doesn't take long to lose its' steam power, and it needs refilling rather quickly (so don't pump for steam if you don't need to). Also, depending on the angle being applied, it leaked more water than steam action to some surfaces. Additionally, I wish the main nozzle was longer, as I found myself unable to reach certain areas.

To sum up, it's fine for most basic household uses but don't expect maximum power from a model like this. I found myself wanting to upgrade.

This is a great product at a great price. This is my second one, because they don't last forever. But four years for one of these isn't a bad life-time, considering the price. There are some things it DOESN'T do like soap scum on the shower door. But I use it for cleaning the grill, the oven and the stove-top. The steam really does melt the grease like in the infomercial. While it doesn't really work on soap scum, it does a great job on mirrors. Next time I'll spend the extra money and get the one with the extension hose, because without it you can't get to the bottom of the mirror (the squeege attaches right to the tank, which gets in the way). About the time I run out of steam, my arm is tired and the break to let the unit cool so I can refill it works out nicely for me. With common sense (don't force parts together, empty the tank before storing, etc.), the unit should last. The one thing I would change would be to add the ability to purchase nozzles and brushes seperatly. Those are the things that get lost/wear out, etc.

it loosens dirt and grime,,,then you have to wipe it away...

i say this because some people may think you steam it off,,and that when done the area is cleaned,,it isn't. it lessens the elbow-grease you have to put in.it IS worth the money, you don't have to work as hard, but you still have to wipe up the residue....so much for cleaning unreachable places,,,for that you need to use an attachment with a fabric cover, which they do give you, but it's teeny, tiny...you need about fifty to complete a dirty job... all in all, i recommend,,but prepare to get creative... it's a good and helpful little product!

This item does provide steam, however it is not hot enough to get rid of simple soap scum and mildew. Pain in the butt process: Fill with small amount of water, wait three minutes for it to heat up, use for 1-3 minutes before item runs out of water, wait five minutes for item to cool down before opening the pressure chamber to refill... repeat. Total waste of time.

When I called customer service, for one, I am sure I was speaking to someone out of this country, which was hard to understand what they were saying, and second, no explanation as to why it says there is a lid but there isn't. this would be fine for single servings I suppose, but for cooking for 2 or more people it's too small and food set near the edges doesn't cook very well, and sometimes not at all. It was so very difficult to clean as well. The little tray that catches the fat tends to fill rather quickly and then your stuck trying to figure out how to empty and replace it while hot grease continues to drip from your cooking food.... not possible... so you just hope it doesn't make a huge mess.

Bottom line.... not good for more than cooking one thing at a time, doesn't cook even around the outer edges and a pain to clean.

Europeans (my wife is Russian) only use these permanent type skewers. With a good recipe, this will become a regular tool in your kitchen-indoors or out. We don't bother with the wooden throw away ones or any other material other than stainless since these are permanent and easily washable. Must have for barbacue cooks.

The design is an old standard and I recommend that you buy it in a brick and mortar store if you find it. I had a party coming up in a pinch and couldn't remember which store had these so I bought it on Amazon. Problem is that Amazon doesn't carry these in their warehouse so the secondary retailers always charge a shipping charge which is half the price of the skewer set itself. The rip-off is always the shipping charge from these secondary resellers on Amazon if you're buying inexpensive items, so beware.

I bought this cuz it was only $, expecting to use it only occasionally. I ended up using it for dinner 4 times a week!

PROS: With a small cooking surface, it is perfect for single servings (or picky family members with different dinner preferences.) It cooks chicken and fish very quickly. No more than 5 or 6 minutes for a thawed chicken breast; less for fish fillets. I find steak to be juicier and more tender than frying or broiling.

Kinda easy to clean. Just wipe with a couple paper towels. When cool, clean around the rest of the components.

CONS: Small cooking surface. The cord is short. And, except for the plastic handle, it gets VERY HOT so you cannot move it or turn it around when hot. Depending on what you are cooking, the drip cup may need emptying during the cooking process, which can be messy.

Sandwiches do not brown well, due to the height of the internal grids.

I've never owned a George Foreman grill, but if I were to believe the the reviews, then this grill is pretty decent in comparison, and much cheaper.

You can grill slices of meat, sandwiches, burgers, whatever. I used to have to cook things like frozen fishsticks, chicken tenders, and tator tots to feed this kid, and instead of using my oven, I used this. My frozen foods are usually cooked to crispy perfection at the time it takes to preheat my oven. It's kinda small though so you'll have to grill your burgers one at a time and despite the picture at the top, you probably won't be able to do kabobs. I love toasting my sandwiches on this thing and getting stripey grill marks. And I love watching all the fat drip off my meat and into the tray below.

Downsides include cleaning. The grill plates don't detach, and you're not allowed to submerge the thing in water, so that means you have to wipe the grill off carefully with soapy water while it's still warm before the fat coagulates. Then you have to wash the soap off and try not to wet the undetachable wire at the same time. Kinda tricky.

Not a bad little grill if you're just making a snack or a sandwich but it's damned hard to clean since the plates aren't removable. If you're thinking about buying this to make burgers or anything else that requires actual cleaning (as opposed to just wiping the grill plates off) you probably want to keep looking.

I really like this little grill. It's very small, so it doesn't take up much room on the counter. But it cooks very nicely. I've cooked chicken, steak, pork chops and vegetables and it does a good job on everything.

I received this as a gift in 2006 and use it several times a week. It still heats up just as hot as the first day I used it! I'd rather grill Chicken breasts and salmon on this than go to a restaurant and it only takes a few minutes. Grilled vegetables also turn out nicely. I haven't tried making sandwiches on this grill.

PROS: The small cooking surface takes up very little counter space and is perfect for one or two people. It cooks quickly and evenly. I find cleanup to be really easy.

CONS: The unit does not have an on/off switch, so I sometimes get a little spark when I plug it in. It also has a rather short cord. The drip cup is not large enough. I have replaced mine with an empty frozen food tray which fits nicely under the feet catches all the fat and never touches the grill so there is no risk of overheating or melting the tray.

The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because of no on/off switch, and I can't make pancakes on it.

This product worked very well. I was shocked how well it worked in fact and, it was so easy! It took 98% of everything off that was on my racks which were not in the best of shape. I did let them sit overnight. Whatever was left washed off easily and without scrubbing. I was able to get 4 racks in one bag as I have two ovens. I did move the solution around in the bag 3 times for 2 hours at a time before letting it sit all night. This way I made sure that every area had some solution on it for a period of time. The bag did not leak even doing that. In absense of knowing how strong this chemical was and if the bag would eventually leak (it did not), I put the bag on an old blanket on my garage floor overnight and rinsed it off outside with a garden hose in an area on the ground away from any growth.

Read other reviews and desperately took a chance that it would work. Box arived a bit beat up and I thought maybe it was old and I was out of luck. However, the plastic bag that came in the box was large and very strong. Held 2 oven racks without a problem. I place the entire solution into the bag and I shook it all around to get the racks coated. I let it sit from 6:00PM until the next day at about the same time. I flipped it over every so often as I passed the kitchen table. When I took them out of the bag the next day, I placed them into the sink, took a sponge and what ever was left sticking to the racks just peeled right off. It was so easy to rinse them, they were not knew, so I can not say they looked like new. They were a little yellowish from the heat of the oven, but hey were clean. When I roast chicken wings or thighs, I like them crispy, I raise them up to the top of the pan with a rack, do not like to tent them with foil, the splattering kills my oven and the oven racks get black. In the past I had tried all types of cleaners and I scrubbed them with stainless steel pads, and never had achieved more than maybe 30% of burned grease off of them. This worked. I would definately recomment this

Taylor 1479 Commercial Wireless Remote Digital Food Thermometer

I have read the "help" offered by the Taylor engineer. I think he is just explaining away the fact that Taylor did not design this appropriately for the environment it is going to be regularly used in. I am an engineer by training and have used these types of temp measurement devices before many times they are popular because they are accurate and reliable. If packaging is not designed correctly, anything will fail. (perfect example computer manufacturers design keyboards to have a drink spilled on them; is this logical: no; does it keep the keyboard safe in its likely use environment: yes)

My problem is that the crimp that holds the wires into the probe did not hold well so the plastic protective sheath pulled out and, no, I did not pull the probe out by the cord. Now the little wires that actually combine to determine the temperature rub on the probe opening and cause an error (especially if even slightly moist). Bottom line: the cord should have been sheathed in braided metal like every other probe out there.

There may be good news: as I was writing the review sitting on hold with customer servcie, someone finally answered my call. They will send another probe out for free...in a month and a half because they are backorded. I'm sure the Taylor engineer will chalk the demand for replacement probes up to user error. Good luck to those who purchased.

Just finished reading my copy of Cooks' Illustrated and I see they've listed this wireless as their new #1 thermometer, knocking off the previous title holder. I love this piece and am glad to see the experts think so too. It's compact and works well. I love the backlight and that the remote beeps, vibrates and flashes a light for the various pre-alerts I've set for cooking. I use it more indoors than for BBQ's, but it's clearly a great piece and by a company who knows thermometers. I have other Taylor items too.

I had a corded one before that didn't have the remote, but wanted to try this. I used it on the grill to cook some chicken and had no problem with the cord at all. It was great because I didn't have to constantly run to the grill to check the temp -I did once but then realized I didn't have to and waited for the beeps (and it was cold out). The chicken breast turned out well. I used it in the oven this weekend for a roast, and again, it was great. The meat was done really well and cooked just the way we like it. I like that I don't have to spend all my time in the kitchen checking and checking the temperature. I truly didn't worry about the roast until I got the beeps. Can't wait to try it again for the holidays

Bought this item in Crate and Barrel. Very happy with the features. But, I used it 6 times and it's already broken! Figured it just needed batteries when it stopped working, but no, the display panel is defective. What a let down.

The title might seem harsh, but it is too true. Upon delivery of the Taylor 1479 from Amazon, the unit was inoperable out of the box.

Upon power-up, the display registered what seemed to be the ambient room temperature. I then placed the probe under my hot water tap and the display immediately registered 'LL'. I did not submerse the entire probe, but rather just ran the water over the last few inches of the probe to avoid getting water inside of the tube. After a minute or two, the display came back to ambient temperature, then back to 'LL' and repeated randomly.

I decided to test the Taylor 1479 against known boiling water. The Taylor 1479 displayed 139 degrees in a pot of 212 degree boiling water.

Allow me to state the obvious... An inaccurate meat thermometer is worse than no thermometer at all. Most people use a meat thermometer to aid in judging the 'doneness' of expensive meat, e.g. prime rib. Trusting the Taylor 1479 will guarantee ruined meat as well as ruined occasions.

To answer the Taylor engineer/apologist who provided the last 5 star rating... I am an Electrical Engineer with over 40 years experience in measurement devices. I grew up with a Simpson 260 VOM, and have used everything from an oscilloscope to a real-time Fourier analyzer to a bus monitor. I know how to use a probe thermistor, and the Taylor 1479 was faulty out of the box. Let me make this clear... THE TAYLOR 1479 WAS FAULTY. Maybe you should do something about it?

I know I'm living in a dreamworld, but how cool would it be if Taylor hired a group of people in the US to perform quality checks on their Chinese-made products? Maybe some kids trying to earn their way through engineering school, or some retired Navy metrology specialists trying to supplant Social Security? (Metrology being the science of measurement, not the science of weather.)

Oh, yeah... I had to go to Kohls on Christmas Eve to buy a mechanical bi-metal thermometer. Kinda sucks since any high school kid could build a science fair digital thermometer that interfaces with their iPhone for about 45 cents in parts. But I bought my mechanical bi-metal thermometer and went on my merry way. Upon getting home, the thermometer read 32 in an ice slurry and 212 in boiling water. Something the Taylor 1479 could never do.
