Calphalon HE600CG Removable-Plate Nonstick Countertop Grill
The cooking quality is excellent. One of the reviewers complained about how poorly his chicken and steak turned out. I do not understand that, he must have cooked at the wrong temperatures (too hot), because we've had perfect results every time. It doesn't taste like steamed anything, but like grilled food. And yes, it makes a mean panini sandwich!
This grill is well made with quality parts. The only part that is questionable is the adjustable height knob, which is plastic, and I could see this breaking down the road, since we use this grill daily. I called customer service about it, and they said should it break, they would send out a new part, no problem. Good to know.
This grill looks so good on the counter, that I leave it there. It does not look tacky like the other models out there, where I found myself wanting to hide them right after use.
There was a huge fire hazard defect on a no-name cusinart model that I bought from Walmart for $50, which occurred well after the warranty ended. That grill ended up in the trash can. What happened with it is the grease leaked underneath whenever I opened it while cooking, melting the plastic that housed the wires, leaving the wires exposed. Thankfully I caught this before anything bad happened. So, when I looked for my next grill, I specifically looked for one that addressed this issue (the grease leaking underneath whenever you open the grill while cooking). The Calphalon addresses this issue with the drip tray in the back. Other grill makers need to follow suit!
The price tag seemed high to me, but it does come with a much better warranty than other models, it is made from higher quality parts, and it looks like something one would see in a professional kitchen. My husband is a chef, and is extremely happy with this grill as well. I'm not one known to buy high-end appliances, but in this case I did and can honestly say that I have no regrets. I highly recommend this grill!
JULY 18th 2010: UPDATE
I just wanted to update and let everyone know that after daily use for well over a year, I can happily report my Calphalon indoor grill is still going strong!
Cleanup is still a breeze and the coating is still perfect. After you cook on it and the plates have cooled down, place the plates in the sink and spray a little water on them, let them soak for a few minutes. Then rinse. I have never had anything clean as easily as these plates!
I read that some people have problems with the front panel coming off or knobs breaking. I haven't had that happen. I'm wondering if there was a bad batch of these, and somehow I lucked out. I bought my grill from Amazon, if that helps. Everything still works like a charm and we put this grill through its paces!
Someone mentioned the top plate coming off while they were cooking. They must not have put it on correctly. If it doesn't snap in, it isn't on there right. Be careful with that.
My grill heats up in about 5 minutes. No problems there. I love the timer. 350 degrees seems to be a magic temperature for me. I cook almost everything at that setting. This is a wonderful grill. I'm very happy we splurged last year and bought it.
ANOTHER UPDATE: OCTOBER 11, 2012
I just read the latest reviews and noticed how many people are leaving bad reviews for this grill. I am wondering if I have the same grill? Perhaps the company started using inferior parts? It is strange to see so many people having problems with this grill. So, I think that if I were looking for a grill right now and saw all of these reviews I would not buy this one. Obviously something is different about the grill I bought from Amazon and the grill everyone is getting. It's a shame. They had something great here. I am grateful my grill is still going strong, which it is, but now I am worried about how many people bought this grill because of my glowing review, only to receive an inferior product? I know I am a firm believer in looking at reviews on Amazon before buying anything. So, even though I am still enjoying this grill and it has been perfect for me, I think I would stay clear of this grill now, seeing all of the bad reviews.I received one of these for my birthday, approximately nine months ago. I specifically wanted this one because I have had positive experiences with their cookware.
This is one of the best you can buy in this price range. It has a generous size, and gets hot enough for many things. The plates are removable, a big plus. One reviewer correctly pointed out that this grill does not get hot enough to grill a steak satisfactorily -which is quite true. I cooked chicken breasts, boneless pork chops, bratwurst and sandwiches and it worked great. It has a cheesy plastic slider locking mechanism to hold the top and bottom together that looks like it will break at some point. Otherwise, it has a very nice look and can be stored vertically.
Okay here it is the "but" as hinted in my title. After less than 16 uses the nonstick finish simply started coming off. I hand wash the plates with a sponge and was surprised to see this happening; it was simply sloughing off with little force.
I shipped back the defective plates (at my expense) to the manufacturer (I believe they have a 5 year warranty), and didn't hear anything from them for two months. I called and a very nice person told me that they were back ordered, but I would get mine in a week or so. That was 4 weeks ago. This will mean that I have waited for 3 months, and before that I had use of it for 5 months. Of course, I have to wonder if and when replacement plates arrive whether they will hold up any better, and will I have to wait 3 months or more again for replacement plates.
So....I am looking at other grills now.
But first, time for another call.
Buy Calphalon HE600CG Removable-Plate Nonstick Countertop Grill Now
I recently purchased this item from Amazon.com. I have wanted one for months (I have tried many others that were junk). When it finally arrived it had scratches on the top and a small dent in the front chrome. The handle was ill fitting and it was obvious that it was ground down to fit the right side. The plastic underpart had small chunks broken out of it. All of this was done BEFORE ever being packed. Typical Chinese quality! That said: The temperature and timer markings are small and hard to read. The knobs are kludgy and hard to grasp. HOWSOMEVER! It cooks just near perfectly. I am truly amazed at the non-stick coating; all you need is a little warm water and a few swipes with a sponge and the grills are perfectly clean. I have never seen a product like it before. I think they said the coating is made by GE. Would I recommend it: A qualified -YES but the price should be somewhat lower. At least it isn't obscene like that Cusinart junk is. That is another story. This grill replaces a Cusinart!!Read Best Reviews of Calphalon HE600CG Removable-Plate Nonstick Countertop Grill Here
I read the reviews after I bought the HE600CG. I was wondering what they were talking about. I could read the dials, it looks well made. It looks like it belongs in a restaurant rather than a kitchen. It has a better (than the Cusinart and Foreman) warranty , including 5 yrs on the non-stick coating. It cleaned up great and took no longer to heat up than the Foreman I replaced it with. Then I realized that some of the reviewers wanted the carmelized meat they get on an outdoor grill. They prefer burnt carbon over fully cooked meat. Sure.. it looks different. It also looked different in my Foreman grill. But no red juices, so it is cooked. Of course, I did the math and figured out to cook it longer than the recommended time. I would start at 12 minutes at 450 degrees if you have a full thick breast.
I liked the timer. It actually shuts the unit off. It is better made than the Cusinart GR4. Side by side, you see the differences. I like being able to adjust the height of the top plate. The Cusinart GR4 has to cups that are easy to slide away or fall and leave a mess on the countertop. There are also drainage issues with the GR4, read the reviews on the GR4.
This is definitely the Rolls Royce of indoor grills. My panel has not fallen off, no dents and the no-stick surface cleaned with the wipe of a wet paper towel. Everything is as advertised.
I guess it is all about expectations. Some people want burnt(carmelized) meat. My chicken breast came out just fine. Pale, yes, but cooked and healthy.(Sorry...no burnt carbon). Moist, not dry,or spongy. I made the right choice for me. What you want, may be different.
BTW I still am trying to figure out what a panini is. LOL

With much anticipation and with lots of success with other Calphalon products, I purchased this table top grill to replace the ridiculous to clean George Foreman. It is a beauty of a machine and the removeable grill plates are truly the easiest thing in the world to clean. Non-stick on steriods. That is about where all the excitement ends. I tried to cook a couple of average size chicken breasts at the recommended time of 5-8 minutes after preheating for 10 mins. The machine left some great looking grillmarks but the rest of the meat was pale. I cut open a breast and it appeared to be cooked but tasted spongy. Mark's review is dead on with the "steamed taste" description. So I left them on for another 10 mins to no avail. They never tasted cooked. Had to finish them off in the oven. Back to the store with this contraption. Very dissappointing.Thursday, January 2, 2014

I then called and received a very helpful young lady that helped me contact the seller and the other legs are on their way. Even with the one leg I can tell that the legs are sturdy and have a flaired top so the stove legs will not slip. I am going to use the Camp Chef stove and leg extensions for brewing beer. These extensions will raise up my kettle to a managable height. Thank you Amazon for helping me with getting my order straight.Sunday, December 22, 2013

Non-stick coating is as durable as tissue paper.I only used this once, to grill some salmon. I didn't use any metal utensils, and was gentle about placing it on the grill. When I washed it and looked at it later, it had 3-4 scratches. They weren't deep, but they were enough that they pulled the coating right off. I prefer not to have non-stick coating in my food so I had to return it.
As far as how it performed, it did really well. My fish came out perfect. You can also use this to bake in the oven and poach. Very useful little cooker. I was really bummed about the durability, it's such a great idea, just uses poor quality materials.

Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker 22.5 inch
Anyway, the good news is, the key to successful barbeque is temperature control. I threw away money a few years ago on a cheaper smoker in which it was almost impossible to control and ruined several dollars worth of meat trying. But temperature control is what makes this unit great. The WSM almost feels like cheating. Once you get it set, it just seems to stay locked into a very narrow temperature range requiring very little adjustment as it cooks. It's as easy to keep it "locked in" at 200 degrees as it is to keep it at 325. However, there are a few little tips and tricks of the trade to cooking on a smoker and barbeque in general that require a little research, trial and error, and discussion with experienced "pit masters." For this I highly recommend The Virtual Weber Bullet website and The Virtual Weber Bulletin Board. There is a wealth of knowledge there and you can get questions answered by professionals as well as pit master wannabes who are just starting out and learning too.
I would recommend starting with a Weber Smokey Mountain, a high-quality, easy to use smoker, rather than wasting money on a cheaper one only to realize later that it's too frustrating to use and then have to break down and buy the good one later. That would be the MOST expensive way to get into barbeque at home. This is a great cooker , I've cooked on a lot of smokers and this one is the best.
First cook was 2 pork shoulders and it could not have gone better.
You can dial this in to 225 degrees and it will hold that temp overnight.
Put the pork on at 9 pm and it was ready to shred at 9am. The best part?
I did not have to get out of bed to check on it! Kudos to weber on the WSM !

This new cooker by Weber will quickly become a classic just like the smaller one has. Nice construction and easy to assemble. As a competition cook that got rid of a trailer mounted offset to go with a couple of these, I gotta tell you how happy I am. Once I got the temp settled in, I didn't touch them (I got two) until the pork butts were done 11 hours later. I HIGHLY recommend this cooker for experienced smokers and especially for those that are just starting...Read Best Reviews of Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker 22.5 inch Here
This is the best smoker available in this price range. I've been cooking and winning with the 18" model since 2002. The big free bonus is great internet websites that will help you answer every question you have. 4" difference may not seem like a lot but in reality it's twice as big as the 18" and will hold twice the meat. Unless you never ever plan on cooking for more than a small group the 22" is a better choice than the 18". I only have two complaints. Amazon is bundling this with a cover, when every WSM ships with a FREE quality cover from Weber. Some of the Amazon bundling makes no sense like this cover or batteries that are the wrong size bundled with a product. The side door is a good fit but would be better is it was a 1/2" wider. You need to pay attention that it is not slipping in the opening when you latch it. It may not look like a classic smoker but the WSM can cook all night un-refueled and the classic looking smokers in this price range can not do that straight out of the box. This is first and foremost a smoker that will cook amazing Brisket, Ribs and Pork.Want Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker 22.5 inch Discount?
There are a lot of positive comments about this smoker and most people go to great lengths to explain their happiness. There's a good reason. I've been grilling for a very long time but barbeque wasn't done much over the years because the results just weren't worth the effort. Now I understand that the proper equipment is essential. You'll have a very hard time making good barbeque in a $50 Brinkman. If you're talented enough to do that you're probably not cooking on one of those anyway. This smoker isn't cheap but it also isn't a Big Green Egg or a decent side smoker in terms of expense. Most of the side smokers are hard to regulate and most don't cook evenly without some extra work. Find a blog on side smokers and you'll find lot's of "fixes" and "fiddling" to get the heat even. This Weber is really easy to use for low and slow cooking and it doesn't require much "tending" on a 10-12 hour cook. By the way, you definitely can use a couple of Weber chimneys to get a good, quick start on the fire without petroleum based fluids if you opt to buy one of these. Lighter fluid is generally a bad thing. You either have to burn up a good bit of your fuel to get all of the lighter fluid gone or, even worse, you stink up your food with it.
We've been using this smoker for about a year now and I'm happy with the purchase. The 22.5 is a surprisingly big boy for sure when you take it out of the box but now I can do 8 racks of ribs if I want. If you don't ever need to do that much, the smaller one may be a better choice for your needs but they both do the same work in the same way. If you've ever seen a Weber kettle grill (and who hasn't?) this equipment will be very familiar to you; same porcelain on steel construction, same vents and still made in the US when I got mine.
Several people mentioned being disappointed with quality of the access door and I agree with them that it should fit better out of the box but, with some careful bending you can get a good seal and then you don't have to fool with it again; it stays put. It's made from fairly thin stucco embossed aluminum that you can easily shape with with your hands. Just take your time to get it shaped a little better to the smoker barrel and you're all set from then on. After getting used to tipping it sideways to remove and replace the access door, it really does work quite well and the size of the opening makes it easy to add fuel or wood chunks during the cook.
I've eaten barbeque from Texas to Virginia and it's always a favorite choice when traveling somewhere because it's all a little different. I've had dry rub ribs at the Rendezvous in Memphis and wet ribs in St. Louis and pulled pork at Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and chicken and rib plates at Johnny Harris' in Savannah and I like Luther's in Houston for brisket! My point is that I've had some REALLY good barbeque but now I can duplicate what the Rendezvous serves right on my patio. My pulled pork is as good as anything I've had in ANY restaurant; ever. The best barbeque I eat is at home now. The restaurants just aren't likely to take the time to do what you can do with this smoker and maybe Big Bob Gibson's book on how to do it....which is well worth the $16 in my opinion.
If you want to do some truly great barbeque at home, spend the money for good equipment and take just a few minutes to learn some rubs and sauces. If you can read, measure and tell time, you can make some excellent smoked meats without buying someone else's WONDER SAUCE (aka ketchup, vinegar, salt and a few minor spices)to slather on the meat and call it your own. What you can make from scratch is cheaper and better than most of what you would buy. And, when you're done, you'll be justifiably proud of YOUR barbeque and probably a very popular cook with the people who get to eat it.
I mean, they're just not going to be getting any peach roasted pork shoulder anywhere but your house......Lord that's a good recipe from Big Bob's book! As we say in parts of the south, "that stuff is so good it'll make your tongue slap your brains out."
Get the smoker, get some books and have some FUN if you like to cook outside and show off a little. You'll be famous and popular in no time.

I had all sorts of trouble getting it to read anything, and after a few minutes it refused to turn on at all. This thermometer felt cheap the minute I took it out of the box. Piral 5-1/2-Quart Stockpot with Lid
Well my second one did not come cracked, it came shattered. When I called Amazon to see if they could package it better, I was told they had NO control over it. At the suggestion of the customer service rep, I emailed the package/shipping section, but that didn't help either. I was told by the customer service rep that they will send out one more, but after that I would not be able to get another replacement, just a refund. Well, the third one showed up with the typical poor packaging, and yes, that too was cracked. I love Amazon, and will continue to shop with them: However, I am beyond disappointed because I really wanted this pot. I am more disturbed than anything that they would be so careless SO MANY TIMES to send such a fragile (and expensive) pot in the poorest packaging I have EVER seen, not once, not twice, but THREE times. I mean, are you kidding me??? I wonder who in God's name gets stuck with the loss, Amazon or Piral?

I was looking for new pot to add to my collection.I saw this one and fell in love with idea of terracotta and beautiful red color.I got it today and going to send it back.Yes,it's beautiful, but that's all.The bottom is not flat.It has a little bulge right in the middle-so i can't see how it's going to work for electric stoves. Then the knob on the lid is so small and because of the glassy material you feel like it's going to slide out from your fingers. The lid itself not going to stay in the place,it's kind a sliding around, may be because the pot is not really round,or they wasn't made for each other dimension,i can't say for sure..But it feels like if you will bent a pot a little bit the lid will fall down and broke.
I've decided not to take chances and send it back.
I understand the idea of a handmade piece, but it's just too much imperfections for one pot.
I can't say anything about the performance of the pot,i didn't try to cook in it. Sorry.
Still it's very beautiful...

Weber Q 120 Gas Grill
So this year I bought the Weber Q-120. What an amazing grill. It gets up to 400 deg. quick & with the cast iron grill. It makes beautiful sear marks; With 189 sq. inches there is enough room to easily cook for 6-8 people. It uses a single burner which is "conservative" when it comes to propane use. About TWO hours out of a 1 pound tank. If you buy the Weber hose adapter you can hook it up to a 20lb tank & grill al summer off ONE tank!
It puts together easy about 15 minutes. And has many wonderful accessories. i.e.: portable cart (well worth looking into)
Pros: * Sears meat as good if not better than a big grill.
* Very Well Made
* Electronic Ignition (immediate fame FIRST push)
* Cast iron cooking gril
* Cast aluminum body (won't rust)
* Very Portable
* Conservative when it comes to propane use.
Cons: Only 1 minor one. I wish the side tables were metal, so you could fold them away before the grill completely cools. (very minor issue) They probably did not due that due to cost & weight.
They make (6) models 100, 120, 200, 220, 300 & 320 The 100 series is the most compact, 200 series is mid size but still quite portable & the 300 series is plenty big enough for serious entertaining. By adding the "20" at the end of each series you get the fold up & in side tables (which are awesome), A temp. gage & Electronic Ignition!!!! (really awesome)
I highly recommend any of the Weber Q GrillsIn typical character for me I over-analyzed this purchase. I carefully looked at various models and got to know the different manufactures. I was really convinced I wanted one of the snazzy stainless ones like the Cuisinart CGG-200. Then I got interested in the extendable legs of the Cuisinart Petite 180. There were other brands I was looking at, some look even snazzier than the Cuisinart. I didn't particularly care for the pac-man look of the Q series.
Then I ran across a store that had most of the others on display Fry's in Portland. After about 5 minutes of looking at all the different models I'd researched on websites such as Amazon I knew they were all cheap, thin gas burners and would be adequate but not great. I went to Lowes and looked at the Q100. I knew after looking it over that this is the RIGHT grill.
DO NOT buy the Weber Q 100 !! It's really worth the little bit extra money to get the Q 120. You get the fold out side shelves, an electronic ignition and the temp gauge. Any one of those items are not worth it but all together it really makes it the right one to get.
Amazon offers a bundle with the Weber 6507 cart DON'T GET IT! The Weber 6549 is only a few bucks more but is a newer design. You don't save much money by getting the bundle. I also ordered the vinyl 6550 cover and 6401 mitt.
The Q 200/220 are significantly larger. The Q 100 is good for 4-5 people which is perfect for me but if you want to be able to cook for more then get the 200 or maybe even the 300 size. But for me it was important to be able to carry in my RV. The 100/120 size fits in the storage compartments of my Jayco with ease. The 200 size might also fit in there but it would be bulky and cumbersome. Bottom line they are significantly different in size. If you are not sure which one you want find them in a local store so you can see the size yourself.
Cooking steaks and burgers on this grill is great. Nice sear marks and great tasting. Night and day difference from the $20 black square tin can style portable grill it replaced.
Amazon pricing on the grill, cart and accessories was great combined with the great shipping due to the Prime account I signed up for.If it were possible to fall in love with a grill then I am in love. The Weber Q120 Portable Gas Grill exceeds all of my expectations and the Weber Rolling Cart that I ordered to go with it is the perfect companion for it. I have owned many grills in my life since I am 67 years old but this grill is by far the best one I have ever had. I did quite a bit of research on Amazon and other sites before making the decision to buy this one. I had decided that I didn't want a large grill with multiple burners this time and didn't want to have to deal with the big propane tanks since I would only be grilling for 1 to 4 people at a time. I would be storing it in the garage and wanted to be able to easily wheel it out when using it and then wheel it back inside when finished. The grill did require some assembly that took maybe 20 minutes to complete but the Rolling Cart came totally assembled and only required unfolding. I was impressed from the beginning with the heft and quality of the materials used to construct this grill and how well it fit together. I ordered the Q120 model because it has two fold out shelves, a thermometer and an electric starter that the Q100 doesn't have. The little extra cost for the Q120 is worth it. The Q 100 and Q120 will both fit securely on the Weber Rolling Cart so you don't have to mess with having to rig up a table to set the grill and your supplies on. The small canister tanks are very convenient to deal with and the electric starter on the Q120 lights up the grill on the first touch every time. The cooking grate is very heavy, makes great grill marks and cleans easily with a wire brush. I have had this grill for about two weeks now, have used it six times and everything has turned out perfectly with it. The rolling cart also folds down to make this whole outfit portable for tail gating and camping. I highly recommend the Weber Q120 Gas Grill Weber 516501 Q 120 Gas Grill and Rolling Cart. I hate to say it, but since buying the Q-120 I now use my old grill more than ever..... because the Q-120 sits just right on it's side table. I literally have not used my big grill to cook with once since I got the 120. I read all the reviews on it and the Q-100, and was still hesitant to spend the money on a portable grill, and even more undecided between the 100 and 120. Boy was I ever suprised at how well it cooks. It has no problem searing perfect lines, and retains enough heat to flip the meat onto the same spot and still get great searing. The grating has built in burner protection from dripping grease, and so far I haven't had a single problem with flare-ups. The grating itself is very heavy porcelain-enameled cast iron, and looks like it will last for many years. The body of the grill is cast aluminum, and also seems very well made. The burner is stainless steel, lit by an electronic ignition powered by a AAA battery. The grill is very stable on it's feet, even with the lid open. The only time it's not as stable is when you are cleaning it with the grating out, but it's still not a problem. You may have to adjust your cooking technique a little because the grill cooks pretty quickly compared to the grills i've used before, but it's not a problem, and i've yet to cook anything on mine that wasn't good. I find it so much easier to cook on with good results that it is now my primary grill, cooking for a family of four. I have tried many new recipies since getting this grill because it does so well, and am planning to get the Q-320 later for a larger permanent location grill. If you regularly cook for more than four people, you will need a bigger grill than the 120, but the occasional meal for 5 or 6 is not a problem if you are careful. The easily usable grating size is 12" X 16" although it is probably roughly a half inch or so bigger all the way around. If I had to find a con, I would say that the inside surface of the body could be smoother in places. There are a few spots on mine that will tear paper towels if I'm not careful when I'm cleaning it off. Yeah I know that's minor and I probably can fix it in a few minutes with some sandpaper, but that's all I find wrong with this thing. If you clean it while it's still warm you can wipe most of the grease right off, and the catch pan system works great. I usually line my pan with foil, and just throw it away when done.
As far as the Q-120 vs the Q-100 goes, I would buy the 120 over the 100 again. I think the taller lid with the thermometer is very nice compared to the 100, and the side tables and electronic ignition are just icing on the cake. The tool hooks on the side tables are great to hang stuff on, but your tools will hang below the feet of the grill, so they will need to be near the edge of what ever the grill is sitting on if it's wide like a tailgate or something. The grill is not cheap, but it's NOT CHEAP, and I would say it's a great value because of it's quality. Also, you are supporting an American company. To me it's worth the extra money over the cheaper portable grills out there.
I hope this helps, and if you have any questions ask and I'll try to answer them. Thanks!
EDIT to add: I have read many reviews of the weber Q series having regulator issues with refillable propane tanks. I am using mine with a 20lb bottle with no issues at all. I can hook the bottle up, open both valves, and light the grill immediatly, so I am assuming that any issues they may have had are resolved now. I have a 4.25lb bottle on the way and will test throughly with it also, so if I have any issues with it I will update this.
Want Weber Q 120 Gas Grill Discount?
Designing a good gas grill is tough; there are enough bad full-size gas grills out there to prove this point. However, to get good results with a travel-size version is even tougher. That being said, the best bet is to go with anything made by Weber, as their reputation for innovative design and quality materials are exactly what is needed to succeed in this arena. Before purchasing this grill, I already owned a Weber Spirit E-310. The E-310 is the best grill I've seen and has made me a "Weber Guy" through and through. Its flavorizer bars create a sizzling sound that is downright therapeutic and, by the way, also actually enhance the flavor of the meat. The grill-marks created by its cast iron grate create perfect grill marks. However, this grill is big, bulky, and by no means portable.
I bought the Q-120 to fill this void, primarily for tailgate parties. I know that comparing this portable grill to the full-size E-310 is apples to oranges, so please don't treat these as "negatives", but instead, more as "trade-offs" for the portability:
1) The Q-120 has no flavorizer bars The description hints at having a "flavorizer system", but I don't see it. The grill is mostly silent during operation (no sizzle unless meat is being added/flipped). The flavor of the meat doesn't show the evidence of the flavorizer treatment either.
2) Indirect cooking is not possible on the Q-120 I like to cook hot dogs on indirect heat to prevent over-charring. Needless to say, you will need to get creative with the meat layouts in order to simulate indirect heat. I have also heard of some people using aluminum foil to create this effect.
3) The Q-120 generates a lot of smoke. There are two large openings on the sides; it looks like the openings were sized for the tables that flip-in, not sized for the required air-flow. Because the openings are so big, it leaves more space for air to exit, which results in longer pre-heat and more smoke being exhausted.
That being said, the Q-120 cooks the food very well. It preheats quickly enough and does cook the food evenly without flare-ups. The porcelain enameled cast-iron grate creates great grill-marks and is easily cleaned. All of the materials used on the grill are high quality and it's obvious that they will remain in working order for a long time. The only real negative I have about the Q-120 is that the drip-pan isn't secured to the grill. It slides in place without effort, but unfortunately it slides out just as easily; which creates an unneeded hassle when traveling with it.
As far as the Q-100 vs. Q-120 debate goes, there is no doubt that the Q-120 is worth the extra money. The Q-120 has three differences to discern it from the Q-100:
1) Thermometer Cooking without a thermometer makes no sense to me. There are some ways of estimating the grill's heat without a thermometer, but unless you're a pro, you're mostly flying blind. Sure, you can use a meat thermometer, but that's just another thing to take with you during the trip.
2) Electric ignition Way more reliable than what is found on the Q-100.
3) Flip-out side tables When I bought the grill, this wasn't a big selling point. However, in practice, I was surprise to find how much I actually needed them. If you are buying a Q-1X0 for its versatility, these are a must-have.

Weber 4511001 Spirit E-210 Natural Gas Grill, Black
Buy Weber 4511001 Spirit E-210 Natural Gas Grill, Black Now
I purchased this product from Amazon because finding a BBQ with gas hookup in stores is vitally impossible and necessitates a special order. Also-I wasn't sure it would fit in my two door car so it saved me the effort of borrowing a car as well at the same price including shipping as the local Home Depot. The box is HUGE and heavy so more than likely you will need two people to move this to an area for assembly. I did not assemble this item but understood it took about 3 hours. It is on wheels so the item is very mobile. After it was put together I simply rolled it to my gas hookup, turned on the gas and followed ignition instructions. Voilà, BBQ!
As you have read, the flame burns very even no matter where the food is on the grill and the Weber heats up fast! I recently had a 15 person party and grilled burgers and chicken fast and easily to raves from my friends.
Simply putthis BBQ does exactly what you want and need with a great flame. Sounds like great longevity as well but I obviously cannot speak to that at this time.
Note: I use this almost every day even to heat leftovers because it is so easy and makes the food so much more flavorful.
Note: the ignitor is not working due to being slightly detached from the button. Not sure if this is error from assembly or slight manufacturer error so I simply light with lighter stickno biggie. I could prob Jerry rig a fix.
Item is a staple in my household!

I love it. It was actually easier to assemble than I thought it might be based on other reviews. I was plesantly surprised to find Weber had included all the tools needed to assemble it because it was not really spelled out--may have been my failure to review all notes. It works just like it is supposed to be, including the lighter--unlike other grills I have had.Want Weber 4511001 Spirit E-210 Natural Gas Grill, Black Discount?

Custom 2 Initial Monogram Steak Branding Iron
Glad we used this company. The branding iron is a gift so I can't comment on the product, but the service was friendly and fast. The day after I placed the order, I received a phone call asking me for the initials for my iron. It arrived promptly weeks before Christmas.
