I recommend this pan unequivocally! Grills and sears perfectly and it cleans in a heartbeat! It's reasonably light-weight as well, which is important for those of us with severe arthritis.I have had this a little over a month and I have 2 other 10 inch skillets that are marble coated and they are all awesome. Going to buy more. Seasoned them by directions that I found online for other aluminum skillets and I have had no problem! No scratches, no sticking and no problem cleaning up.Thursday, August 14, 2014

George Foreman GRB72P G Broil Grill, Platinum
Slightly annoying is the fact that meat often sticks to the top surface when opening, and the teflon doesn't just wipe clean...usually takes come elbow grease and a good scrubber!
Still one of the easiest, cleanest, and healthiest ways to prepare food.I had a smaller George Foreman grill years ago, and gave it away. It was too much trouble to clean and hard to cook meats well-done without burning them. I purchased the GRB72P G Broil 72-Inch Grill because the top grill plate doesn't totally close down unless I want it to. Consequently, my meats and veggies are grilled the way I like them. I am more than pleased with this product, and I am very happy I gave George another go. I would recommend it to anyone.

only a short review: this GF is better than most of the small $25 ones you can buy at local store:it's bigger: you can throw several pieces of chicken or 2 to 4 burgers on it
it has the hinges: warming up pizza really works well and tastes so much better than in the microwave
it looks nice (better than the white appliances)
one disadvantage is the hard to clean surfaces: if you have the extra $$ get the model where you can actually take the plates out to clean them, makes it much easier...
Overall, good bang for the buck!

This is our third Foreman grill and is the best design so far. The long side-to-side cooking grid (vs previous design)makes grilling much easier. The lid is hinged for easy grilling and, being shorter, is easy to raise (unlike previous model with the length running front to back).Great product we use it several times a week!

I was concerned about smoke with this product, but it doesn't smoke much when cooking. It's counter size which was important to me because I don't have alot of counter space and planned to use my grill several times a week.As long as you clean the product right after use, while it is hot, clean up is simple.
Drawback: The hinged lid is difficult to use. One side will hinge, the other won't or neither side will hinge. I stuggle with it sometimes.

Maverick Remote Smoker Dual Probe Wireless Thermometer ET-73
The first thing I did was check the accuracy. I put both of the probes in a pan of water and brought it to a rapid boil. One probe read 212, and the other 213, one degree off. Next I put both in a large glass of water and ice. Both were showing 32 degrees between the ice and water. The tests turned out far better than I had expected.
So far I have used this for three 12-14 hour smokes, and at least 2 6 hour smokes and the batteries are still good. The probes clean easily, and I have had no significant problems.
One thing I noticed is that one of the probes sees to have a bit of melted rubber protruding between the grill temp probe and the connected wire. Since I have never had either probe about 255 degrees, I find that a bit troubling. Not sure I want to use it for a direct grilling application where the temps can go over 400 easily.
I have not had a chance to see how the outside unit handles rain.
All in all, I would not think twice of buying another one of these if I had a need. The E-72 is a nice unit for people using a smoker, since you need to monitor the smoker temp and the meat, but this model has a few odd things you need to be aware of. It's range can be very short. It says 100feet, but that is in an open field with no obstructions. If you are going through a wall from outside to inside, expect to get about 20 feet.
Also the on/off switch for the transmitter is inside the battery case. Very odd design.
Maverick just came out with a new model (the ET-372) that corrects these problems. As of this review, it's not sold on Amazon, but keep watching it's worth getting the new one.

I've been using this produce with my Weber smoker for six months now, and it is the most important tool that I have. I've found it to be accurate within a few degrees (on the food side) of my instant read thermometers and by not having to open the lid to check temperatures I don't have to deal with the heat you lose doing that. Even though the remote unit is plastic, hanging it on the outside of the smoker works perfectly well. Setup took a bit of time the first few tries, then I found it to be straight forward. I only have two issues. First, having to open up the unit to turn it on is a minor hassle (it isn't that big of a deal, just a minor inconvenience). The other issue had nothing to do with using it with my smoker I used it in my gas barbecue and had a major flareup (wasn't paying close attention) and that shorted the food probe WHICH they mention may happen. I'm getting the high-temp food probe from them (wish it had been included in the first place). For my smoker, it worked perfectly fine. I recommend this unit to everyone.Read Best Reviews of Maverick Remote Smoker Dual Probe Wireless Thermometer ET-73 Here
My family makes hundreds of pounds of kielbasa and other smoked sausages every fall. This Maverick remote dual probe thermometer makes life so much easier. We can monitor the temperature of the meat as well as the air in the smoker without ever having to walk down to the smoker. We know as soon as we need to add more wood or as soon as the product is ready to be removed. It saves so much wasted time checking temps every 30 or so minutes.Want Maverick Remote Smoker Dual Probe Wireless Thermometer ET-73 Discount?
I bought this unit about a year ago. I liked the idea of a temp read for the smoker, and another for the meat itself. The unit is a little tricky to figure out. (If you don't get a read or --on your receiver, then make sure the receiver is on before you turn on the transmitter.)
It seems to be fairly accurate too.
I don't know what caused the problem, but the display on the receiver started to fail. I was able to keep it limping along by applying pressure to the back of the unit. If you push in the right place the dead pixels seem to come to life for the most part.
If this unit was better made/more rugged I would have bought 3 of them to use and abuse.
I'm not sure I will by products by Maverick again.

Maverick Two-In-One Oven and Roasting Digital Thermometer with Timer
We had one helleva time trying to locate a digital oven thermometer. The few that are out there are $80 to $100 or more. Lots of thermometers meant to use as food probes are there, but they aren't meant to measure oven temps since they have a max reading o only 300 degrees, or so. lots of analog thermometers which we did try but are slow to respond any many aren't accurate.
We needed an oven thermometer because we new our oven was way off. Turned out to be off by 45-50 degrees.
This is very easy to read, and the temp for the probe is easy to set so the unit can alert you when the selected .
The alert sound is VERY quiet to the point of being useless. Even though the timer unction works well the fact you can't hear it when time is up makes that function worthless. For our purpose, this product is adequate the fact there is no usable sound simply means you will need to look at the digital readouts to see when the oven is at the right temp to start cooking and then read the readout for the probe to see when it indicates the "done" temp is reached.
Rating for thermometer both oven and probe 4 stars (took off 1 star for almost inaudible alert tones)
Rating for timer (which is a minor function) 1 star
Dealer provided excellent communication about staus of order and it shipped within a day or two.Greetings...
I purchased this Maverick "Redi-Chek" ET-85 for use in my smoker for monitoring pit and meat temperatures. Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna work out well for that application. The main problem is that the temperature probe cable just isn't long enough. It's just over 36" long which is actually usable if your meat is on the top rack (I'm using a Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker). If the meat is on the bottom rack, the base unit would have to be located right next to the smoker without much slack in the cable. The way the temp probe is made makes it impossible to run the probe into the smoker through a small hole such as a grommet modification, but it will fit through the top air vent hole. You can also run it between the lid and its base, but that creates an airflow issue in the smoker. So, as for its benefit to MY intended use, it doesn't look very promising at all. I bought this, possibly, without doing enough research to find out if it would meet my needs.
That being said, this temperature probe will be a FANTASTIC tool for several other applications. I can use it very easily with my gas grill if I want to measure internal food temps and/or the internal grill temp, but the grill/oven temp scale on this unit does max out at 572° F. If you are trying to fine tune a gas grill's internal temp to 300° or 350° (or anything under 572° this probe will be a big help. The other application I'll use this probe for is measuring the temperature inside my mash tun when making beer. This tool is absolutely PERFECT for that! It's very accurate, which is important in this process. A few degrees one way or the other when mashing malted barley can make significant changes in the beer.
Even though this tool won't work for me very well for my original intended purpose, I'm still giving it five stars because its a fantastic tool for what it is. I can't fault it for not meeting the purpose I had hoped for.

I purchased 3 of these thermometers to use in my BBQ vending business. All 3 units have malfunctioned within 3 months of the purchase within only 2 uses. One was defective right out of the package, the oven temp set button was unresponsive. And on all 3, the sensory cable does not effectively attach/plug into the control unit to the point that they fall out which renders the thermometer useless. The only good thing about it is the "concept" of a meat/oven temp combination.Read Best Reviews of Maverick Two-In-One Oven and Roasting Digital Thermometer with Timer Here
I never make reviews, but...this items is of SUCH VERY POOR QUALITY..... I purchased this item twice with a period of time between purchases. Each of the items failed at the plug socket where the probe connects; I have been very careful with the items trying not to cause a problem. On 12/25/2011 while barbaquing a 23 lb prime rib ($160 of beef), the plug socket failed and would not hold (again) the probe. I no longer was able to accurately monitor and control the barbaque temperature. Luckly, I had a backup, high quality, electronic meat thermometer (purchased at Macys) but no oven thermometer. Again, a VERY POOR QUALITY product. This review is to try and help those who may want a reasonable quality and reliable electronic thermometer for quality cooking.Want Maverick Two-In-One Oven and Roasting Digital Thermometer with Timer Discount?
There were certainly no problems with the accuracy of this thermometer, and I was very satisfied with it on the two occasions I used it; however, the third time was unlucky. The probe would not plug into the thermometer rendering the product useless; unfortunately, this occurred one month after the return date.Friday, April 25, 2014
Oster CKSTWF40 4-Slice Waffle Maker, Black
I like the square shape and making 4 at a time means we can sit down together to eat, and I can also bake several for the freezer and they fit nicely in the toaster later. I also have had no problems will spilling over the sides -it handles quite a lot of batter. These are all plusses. The only time it was kind of pain to clean was when I added blueberries, and some of them baked to the metal, and that took a little more effort to clean off, but otherwise, just wiping it down with a damp paper towel does the trick.
The only downsides are that sometimes the top of the waffles don't seem to brown as nicely as on the bottom (although the second batch will always seem to come out better than the first), and I noticed a little bit of the black surface coming off on the side of the iron where the cover hits (this after only about 2 uses), but since it is not a spot where food touches, I am not concerned. Also, you may have to check the waffles quite a few times to make sure if they are done or not, but I don't find that a huge drawback.
Overall the waffles have been very nice, and for the price, ease and convenience, as long as more of the black coating doesn't wear off, I am happy with it.

My fault: did not look close enough! This makes Belgian Waffles! It does it very well. They cook evenly: crispy outside/fluffy inside; no hot spots.
This is just not to my liking. I like the old school, standard, waffles. Will be gifting this one.

This item was bought at the request of my grandson. He loves waffels and enjoys making them with me. Beside it being a great waffel maker the time spent with him is priceless.REVIEW UPDATE It has been a couple of months since my waffle maker arrived. At first it worked perectly. Now, after using it maybe 8 times, it's doing the same thing that everyone has complained about...it will not heat up. Our waffles are light, not crispy and not cooked. They won't release from the grids because it's still batter. I find this totally unacceptable and this is going in the junk pile. What an absolute waste of money.Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Weber 3770001 Genesis S-310 LP Gas Grill, Stainless Steel
I checked consumer reports and this Weber grill is rated the #1 grill out there for the following reasons:
a) very even heating
b) quick heating
c) very solid construction
d) low propensity for flareups
Consumer reports brought out some of the more glaring shortfalls to other grills that were not easily apparent then blinded by all that stainless steel at the local warehouse store. Armed with some consumer reports data I went back to the local stores that have these grills and I started to see what they were saying: plastic where Weber was aluminium, solid doors vs thin with empty backing, open cabinets where Weber has fully enclosed cabinet, cast steel casing where Weber's is Aluminium. Try as I might, I couldn't find the exact model I wanted so after much deliberation I bought the Webber Genesis S-310 from Amazon. I always order from Amazon but I was a bit hesitant to order due to a review of someone getting a dented grill. But since I really wanted the S-310 and I trust Amazon, I went ahead and ordered and everything arrived perfect (Thank you Amazon and Eagle whoever you are).
The Bad:
1) It arrived in a box factory disassembled into a bunch of parts
The Good:
1) It was very well packaged in the box (additionally, most stainless parts had a plastic film to keep from scratching)
2) It shipped and arrived very quickly (within 3 days of ordering standard shipping)
3) No dings or scratches on the grill or even on the box (Eagle did a great job on this one)
4) The fact that the grill was disassembled which allowed me to get to know the grill as I assembled it and raelly appreciate the construction
5) Instructions were clear
6) I have to say that in putting this grill together took about one hour of work and it really had me appreciate the strength of Weber's construction on this product. Its frankly amazing how well constructed this grill is.
7) Construction of this grill is made of stainless steel and cast aluminium with plastic only in the wheels (which are very tough), hose, knobs and a couple of small fittings.
8) The undercarriage is enclosed on all four sides with gorgeous stainless doors which are thick and fully whose back is also stainless.
9)Many details were taken into account, there are adjustments so that the knobs are fully centered.
10) There's a chain to hold a lighting match and the lighting hole is neatly placed on the front right corner of the grill although the grill has electronic ignition.
11) The temperature guage was placed in the front center of the grill and is large and easy to see.
12) The knobs are located on top of the grill which is fantastic if you have small children. It makes it much harder for children to reach the knobs and turn them
13) It doesn't come with a tank (I have 3 so that wasn't a problem)
14) Comes with a drip pan
15) It doesn't have brickettes but comes with very highly angled triangular baffles to cover the burners...the angle of the baffles lessens the likelihood of flareups because grease falls down before it catches on fire
16) Very good warranty on all materials and workmanship
17) It has a tank measure so you know when you're low on propane
18) This grill gets hot. I turned it on high and turned around for a few minutes and it was up to 650 degrees and the flavorizer bars were glowing bright red hot....wow -never had a grill do that before!
19) Very even heating. The burners run left to right on this grill vs front to back. Always in the past, I've had a problem with the back of my grill being hotter than the front. With this grill the heating is more even. There are pros and cons of left to right arrangement of burners vs front to back and probably beyond this review just be aware potential buyer --left to right works very well for me and I find I can do indirect cooking nicely too.
Grilling with this product is fantastic. This is the best grill I have ever owned and I'm glad I own a Weber Genesis S-310. You might find cheaper grills or bigger grills for the same money or higher BTUs but overall, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a "better grill" out there.
I was apprehensive at ordering such a large product from Amazon but amazed at how fast I got it and the store perfect condition it arrived in. One very happy Weber Owner and Amazon shopper.I spent 6 months doing extensive research on grills before purchasing this unit. At the time of this writing, I have cooked on it approximately 20 times.
Every design aspect of the grill has been thoroughly thought out. It creates over 600F of heat. Due to thick metals, heat is maintained when the top is opened. It can sear steaks effectively. The heat is consistent across the surface without hot or cold spots. Even the doors open and close like a solid, quality appliance. Nothing on this grill is flimsy.
I am extremely happy with this purchase.
My only complaint is that they put the control knobs on top of the right tray, eliminating valuable surface area.
I would also suggest that you buy a recent copy of "Weber Way to Grill", an OXO meat thermometer, and tongs.
A few grilling tips:
Never stab your food with a fork. You will create exit holes for the juices.
Oil food, not the grates.
Before cooking, heat your grill to over 500F for 10 minutes and thoroughly clean grill with stainless steel brush.
Hamburgers should be 3/4" thick. Never push down on them while cooking. They are ready to flip when they remove easily from the surface.
Foods should be salted, oiled, and left on the counter for 30 minutes before grilling.
Allow foods to sit between 5-10 minutes after grilling to allow juices to redistribute.
When using a meat thermometer, take the food off the grill 5-20 degrees less than your target temperature. "Carry Over" is when the outside of the food continues to cook the inside of the food after it has been removed from the heat. This additional cooking is substanial.

Excellent grilling. Sturdy. I'm glad I spent the extra for the stainless. I was pleased that it came with stainless cooking grates as well. I wasn't expecting that. Plan a couple of hours for assembly, but easy to follow instructions. Putting it together made me appreciate the quality of the grill and it's sturdiness. I'm very pleased with it's performance! I've grilled a variety of meats and vegetables and it has done an excellent job. It does get hot on high -600 degrees or better (great for searing steaks). After warm-up I cook primarily between medium and low. The position of control knobs does limit your counter space. That would be my only complaint.Read Best Reviews of Weber 3770001 Genesis S-310 LP Gas Grill, Stainless Steel Here
Like many people, I scoured reviews on Amazon and elsewhere trying to get a feel for which BBQs were the best in the $500-$800 category--as many have, I've bought the $150 special at Target only to be disappointed with the cooking performance and longevity. Weber grills kept showing up with 5 star ratings, particularly the Genesis E310/S310 models.I ended up buying a Genesis S-310 from a local brick and mortar store because I didn't have time to wait for shipping from an internet store. Be aware, this grill comes in a HUGE box, weighs 160 lbs. and may be subject to some interstate freight drop-kicking which probably won't hurt what's inside. Your first hurdle will be assembly--the instructions are TERRIBLE. Anyone who tells you they put it together in under an hour is either a liar or assembles grills for a living. In my case, it took 3 tool-handy men about 3 hours to assemble it. For example, one part in step one has to be installed in a certain orientation or the firebox in step 12 won't drop in correctly. Guess who installed it the wrong way and had to undo the work when the grill was already 50% assembled? Another issue we had with the instructions was that there are 4 different types of screws used, but the screws for the door handles were actually different than the ones shown in the instructions--at the end of assembly, we realized that the 4 screws left over were for the handles.
Let's talk about the "stainless steel" on this grill. The lid, handles, grills and doors are stainless steel. The shiny side shelves and other surfaces are stainless veneer, so to speak--bent metal that covers a painted frame. The firebox is some kind of powdercoated metal, but it ain't stainless. It's just an eye-opener to see all the non-stainless steel parts that are covered up as you assemble the grill.
The grill works very nicely--with the 3 burners going, you can easily get the internal temp over 500 degrees F and steaks, fish, and burgers sear quickly and with little sticking on the stainless steel rods. So after using it a few times, I had to replace my LP tank (as I'd started with a 1/2 full one) and then the fun really began! The new tank went on...and no gas would come out. Looked in the instructions, tried what it said, fiddled with the connectors, tried manual lighting...even called Weber who cheerfully tried to talk me through another set of instructions. NO GAS. I had guests waiting to be fed. One guest suggested opening the tank valve just ever-so-slightly so a little gas would flow...and voila! the grill lit up on the first click of the ignitor! Turns out if your tank is filled 100%, the pressure regulator won't let gas flow if you open the valve wide open, so by opening the valve just a little the regulator lets gas flow--essentially bleeding the tank--and after your first grilling session, the tank pressure is no longer high enough to trigger the safety mechanism. Despite the excellent Weber phone service--even on a Sunday afternoon--this scenario wasn't covered in the manual or on the phone.
My bottom line: this is a excellent-performing grill--if you pay full list price it's not a great deal. Considering the premium price, the fit and finish is underwhelming. I haven't had any grills in this price range before this purchase, so I can't compare. But I liked the long warranty and you can't beat the responsiveness of the Weber support staff--that is definitely NOT hype!

Staub 12" American Square Grill Pan
I found cleaning to be very simple for both pans. If you are having difficulty I suggest soaking the griddle surface in hot water and detergent for an hour. This gives a chance for the detergent to break down and release fats. If you want to prevent burning try cooking with temperatures no more than medium high this is stated in the included manual. Be sure to give your pan a good coat of olive oil when cooking I use the pressurized spray olive oil as it is far easier to get an even coat.
Staub Grill Pan Review Summary:
Pros (Compared to Lodge Logic): Height (Approx 1/2" Taller than Staub Grill Pan), Quality of Cooking Surface Enamel, No Pour Spout, General Appearance
Cons (Compared to Lodge Logic): High Cost, Smoothness of Outer Enamel
Overall Stars Staub 10" Grill Pan: 5/5
Overall Stars Lodge Logic: 4/5
If both pans had been the same height I would have given both a rating of 5. The rest of the cons are outweighed by the difference in cost between the pans. At it's price point, the lodge pan is still a very good deal. If you have a modest budget by all means purchase the lodge pan. It works. If you are concerned about splatter and visual appeal and have the budget buy the Staub.
I have used both griddles twice now and am posting pictures and as you will see both appear brand new though they have been used. This pan is da shazzizo. Really.
HEAVY cast iron, with a glossy enamel exterior and a rough black enamel interior. It really doesn't need seasoning, as the enamel doesn't rust or stick. Preheat it until smoking hot, add a seasoned steak, leave on for a minute or two, rotate 90 degrees to get those great crosshatched grill marks, flip and repeat, then put into a preheated 450 oven for 4+ minutes, depending on how thick the steak is and how rare you want it.
Seriously foolproof steakhouse good steak, every time, as long as you don't over cook.
The same technique works really well for fish as well. Whatever you cook the sear and blast method works great, and it's easy to make pan sauce.
Although I give this five stars, be warned that it's not easy to clean. Forget trying to get it back to factory condition, ain't gonna happen. However, because the cast iron isn't exposed, but instead your dealing with black matte enamel, you can use dish soap and a scrubbie to get the worst, then leave it on medium heat to dry.
I use this pan constantly, particularly in the winter when it's not so much fun to grill, I'm giving my Alaskan brother one for his birthday. However, even in the summer months it still sees a lot of use.
This and my 9 qt. dutch oven get the heaviest use, and the biggest bang for my cookware buck.

The day I got it from Sur La Table I went and bought two New York Strips to break it in. They were text-book picture perfect with an external sear with blood red rare interiors. Incredible for seared steaks or burgers. Preheat on high heat for at least five minutes before cooking. Get it smoking hot before you put the meat on the grill. Juices from deglazing or rendered fat can easily be poured off with the two pour spouts to make sauces or reductions. And it is oven and broiler safe. You will not be sorry!Read Best Reviews of Staub 12" American Square Grill Pan Here
Smoke concentrates in the grooves between the ridges, which enhances the taste of seared steaks. You can make the grill marks as light-brown or black as you want. This sure beats trying to grill outdoors in the middle of winter, and the results are delish. If you don't have a strong hood fan, you may have to open some windows and close bedroom doors, this thing can get generate as much smoke as grilling on the barbie.
For water-softening of burnt residue, pouring water into a searing hot enameled pan might crack the enamel due to differential contractions of rapidly cooled enamel and iron. A safer technique is to let the pan cool for a good 20 minutes, then pour in water and reheat the stove, letting the water low-boil for awhile, e.g. 30 minutes. You can use dishsoap or not. I just pour the soapless water out and wipe with a some paper towels. I don't worry about getting it spic and span, a little gray-browning of the last towel is okay with me, I treat this like my seasoned cast iron skillets and woks. This worked well for its purpose but after only 6 or so uses it cracked, while heating, close to the angle of the metal spout. Since others have reported similar cracks, the sharp angle of the spout is presumably a design flaw.
