This is an awesome product, you just have to get one because it is the best thing ever if you want to use it on the grill and turn some meat without getting burnt. This is a good tool to flip chunks of meat on your grill. This keeps my hands further away from the flame than with tongs. Make sure your grill is fully oiled up as this tool hooks well but has problems with meat that sticks to the grill. You can use this to hook and flip any solid chunks of meat or vegetables. Obviously you cannot reliably flip hamburger meat or flaky fish which does not hook well and will break apart easily. I've flipped steak, pork chops, chicken breasts/wings/thigh/drumsticks, shrimp, and vegetables. I think this took is a good size and I use it on my "GrillGrates" surface frequently.I use on grill or frying in kitchen. It hooks meat and flips so easy. Easy to clean and makes a great gift also.Thursday, July 3, 2014

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Griddle
One thing, though -the non-stick surface is *really* non stick. Make an omlette and it'll spread over just about the whole bottom of the pan in no-time-flat -which is just great, so long as you like really thin omlettes. Over-easy eggs can be a bit tricky because it's so slippery -it's not that easy to get the spatula underneath! (Part of that's because plastic and coated spatulas are thicker than metal ones.) One time I almost pushed an egg right off the griddle and onto the stovetop. But anyone who's ever had something stick to a griddle will not complain that nothing can stick.
Cleanup is strange. It just doesn't get dirty. I've only had this awhile, but I've used it twenty times, and the nonstick is not only still in perfect condition, it doesn't even show the "bright spots" that, with high-quality non-stick cookware, indicates some mechanical burnishing. I think this will last forever.I have a cheap griddle same size, and now have this Calphalon one. BIG difference. Much better heat distribution, better teflon = easier clean. Handy for bacon (may need to pour of drippings if a lot of bacon), grilled sandwiches, pancakes, eggs.

I purchased this griddle In August of 2006 and use it every Sunday. There is alot i like about the pan, but one huge problem is it warped. I know you are not suppose to put a hot pan in cool water because that will cause this to happen, but I did not do that. I have a smooth glass top surface to my stove so a warped pan is not good. I do have to say the heat still conducts though the pan to give me even cooking thoughout.Read Best Reviews of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Griddle Here
I received a set of the Calphalon Contemporary as a gift and the only thing I felt I was missing was a griddle, so I had to order this one from Amazon. This griddle pan has been wonderful. I use it for everything! Most times, I just wash it and put it right back on the stove since I know I'll be needing it again right away. I can fit 6-8 pieces of bacon on it at a time, 4 pieces of toast, or 4 rather large pancakes. It's a dream come true if you fix breakfast often. It's the best money I've spent in my kitchen and I would highly recommend it!Want Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Griddle Discount?
I had an inexpensive square teflon griddle which performed adequately but began to deteriorate from surface wear. I elected to go with the Calphalon brand as I owned other Calphalon pieces which perform quite well. I was glad the company included specific use and care instructions as they educated me in keeping this pan from wearing in the same way as the previous one.If the directions are precisely followed, this pan should last a lifetime. It heats evenly, cooks perfectly (as long as the proper cooking techniques are used) and cleans up good as new. As suggested NEVER use cooking sprays, use medium to medium high heat, and ONLY clean with warm soapy water AFTER the pan has completely cooled. Using the butter test (heat 1 teaspoon real butter in the pan,if it burns, reduce heat and retest until slow bubbly unburnt butter is the result) works very well. Your pan will be ready to cook when the butter tests correctly. You can wipe the butter away if you do not wish to cook with butter, but the test works. All in all, this product delivers.Friday, May 16, 2014

Flavorwave Turbo Oven
I bought a Secura turbo oven a while ago from their website because they offer extended warranty. It is a perfect cooking appliance, and then we noticed there is a similar Flavorwave oven that selling at slightly higher price with less standard accessories. There must be something on Flavorwave oven that makes good even better. But to our surprise, when we received our Flavorwave oven, we immediately realized there are 3 features missing from Secura turbo oven.
First, there is no extender ring; we need to buy it separately which cost extra $30-40. Seems like this is a problem that can be settled by spending more, not sweet, but I can live with it.
Second, the Secura turbo oven has a handle safety button. You need to push the button and then lower the handle to turn on the oven heating. So it does not accidently turn on when you do not intend to. The Flavorwave Oven does not have this feature. When the handle bar is in down position, the oven turns on. Imagine you set your oven top aside after done with cooking, and definitely do not want the oven to heat again which is impossible to happen with Secura oven's safety button. This safety feature is very necessary, I highly recommend to add this feature.
Third, on the Flavorwave oven, the power cord is permanently connected on the oven top, but Secura turbo oven has a detachable power cord. We have been using Secura Turbo oven to cook and serve on dinner table. When the meal is cooked, just remove the oven top and unplug the power cord. It is convenient and do not have to worry about stepping on the power cord by accident. Just a small detail on design that can make a big difference. Flavorwave oven's platinum model 797DH has the detachable power cord design though if you have interests.
Other than these a few difference, Flavorwave and Secura oven are very alike, the craftsmanship, the heavy duty glass blow, wire rack cad power cord, even the parts # printed on the halogen bulb. Then I was told by customer service, that these two are the same manufacturer only the model #s are different. Flavorwave's 767MH vs. Secura's 777MH. Flavorwave's Platinum 797DH vs. Secura's 798DH.
Having these said Flavorwave oven cooks very well. It does best to cook your food crispy outside and juicy inside. Secura turbo oven is a newer model, but the core technologies are the same as Flavorwave oven. Had I do not know Secura turbo Oven, I would have given Flavorwave oven a 5 star.Okay, so I have to amend my rating to 4 stars. I still hold to my review, and that this thing is more art than science, but it is so much fun, and now that I've gotten good at playing around with it, the food is so tasty, I am bumping it up to 4 stars. The kitchen is not heated up, there is no waiting for pre-heat, there is no defrosting. Once I bumped up the temperature a little higher, moved the food around a little bit, threw away the times and temps from the instructions manual, and just messed around, everything is coming out delicious.
So, it may not cook as fast as Mr. T says it will, but seriously: I pity the fool who does not buy a halogen oven!
Flavorwave cooking is really more an art then science.
Some pros and cons:
Pro 1: Cook from Frozen! It really does defrost and cook your food from frozen, and faster than a regular oven, which is a huge plus for us busy families. When you cook chicken or fish in a conventional oven, from frozen, for let's say 35 minutes, the food comes out dry because the outside is overcooked and the inside is under or just cooked. With the Flavor-wave, it is as promised: Your food is cooked both inside and out. The chicken is juicy and the fish is flaky, there are no raw-spots on the chicken, and there are no extra dry spots on the fish.
Pro 2: Master Potatoes! It makes perfect potatoes every single time. I've tried enormous bakers, frozen fries, sweet potatoes: The fries come out crispy, and the large baker is absolutely perfect, inside and out, and fast too.
Pro 3: Huge Fun Factor! Yes, it's fun! Watching the light go on and off, watching your food cook inside the bowl. Kind of amazing, and even clean-up is playful and toy-like.
The cons:
Con 1: Not Piping Hot Food: While I am confident that the food comes out fully cooked, it does not come out piping hot, like it does in the oven. For me, it feels like cooked food that's been allowed to cool off for maybe 10 minutes. It's not a concern safety-wise, meaning, the food is clearly fully cooked, both inside and out. It's just that, food is so much better when it is piping hot, where you must blow on it to cool it down. Food does not exit the flavor-wave with that kind of heat intensity and mouth-feel.
Con 2: Simulated oven-feel: The chicken and fish comes out almost poached, to me. So the chicken is a little too juicy on the inside, and not crispy enough on the outside. Strange, almost simulated, but not quite like the oven: My salmon is flaky, but does not have that seared feel on the outside, that I might get from a conventional oven.
Con 3: Awkward Bowl: I find pulling food out from the bottom rack to be a little difficult. With chicken and perhaps meat, not a problem because you can use tongs. But with fish, you are going at it with a spatula, and on that bottom rack, because of the bowl, that means you are coming in at a downward angle, and with the round tines to the rack, awkward. I've blown it a couple times, with the fillet falling into a couple pieces before making it to the plate. The top rack, not so much of a problem, but I prefer putting the fish on the bottom rack, and potatoes and veggies on the top, otherwise the fish will drip on the veggies and taters, and that's not good for anyone.
So it's a mixed bag, and hence, the 3 stars. You will probably enjoy the Flave, but it is not a replacement to your oven. It's really convenient, especially during the week, when fresh salmon is not sitting in my fridge after a long day, and for the weekdays especially (and those potatoes), I'm keeping it.
But, the Flavor-Wave is more art than science, and it will take some playing around with it, to get things just right.I bought my 1st Flavorwave oven from manufacture, it was pretty good. I noticed Amazon is selling at a very tempting price(Only later I realized it was sold by seller W***** Best Deals, not from Amazon). It shipped pretty fast from Minnesota, which is good, but when I received it I can tell it looks very similar with my 1st flavorwave oven, but I did notice some difference. I plugged in and turned it on, immediately the fan gave a strange noise, apparently something is wrong in there. I called manufacturer and explained what happened, they can not guarantee it is a genuine Flavorwave oven unless I can find a S/N # on the machine. I looked around and read the rep all the #s I can find on the machine. Guess what? none of them is a valid S/N #. The manufacturer will not help me if it was not bought from them directly, leaving me very upset. I am new to Amazon, did not realize there are so many complications, hoping this post will help others.

So I bought it recently and a have used it a few times.1. It's pretty big and bulky so make sure you have room for this on the counter or elsewhere for storage. P.s the lid is heavy too so be careful when you lift it gets quite hot!
2. I've made burgers, fries and biscuits in it pretty easy stuff. The burgers came out perfectly cooked from frozen (it's good to flip halfway thru on the meats the book says so I did) and the fries where great. It said that you use the top rack for the fries but it's difficult because it falls thru the slots (maybe for homemade as those are bigger) I did buy along with it the accessory pack (all of these items I bought from Amazon) so I used the steamer basket. Perfect. The biscuits were fine they browned well. Oh I want to tell you that the accessories are made out of non stick, best I've ever had nothing stuck at all and I didn't even spray it!Flavorwave Turbo Oven 4-Piece Deluxe Accessory Set
3. The cooking guide is not very helpful for times so you may have to play with it. It says it's a guideline for the times that's the only real beef I have with it. I would also like a more comprehensive list for what item and how hot and how long.
4. I tried the self cleaning mode and that was pretty amusing and actually works! All the stuff stuck at the bottom was easy to get out after that (I did try to clean before the cycle).
So far I am enjoying this machine and plan to make a whole chicken in it on Tuesday so more experimenting to come. As far as the claim as it cooks faster that other methods, MAYBE it is faster than the oven but maybe not a grill. Either way I am happy with it mostly because I can cook two thing at once without messing up my stove. So I hope it lasts I plan to use it a lot.The Flavor Wave Turbo does not offer the ability to replace a burned out Halogen bulb. The bulb in my unit lasted just over a year. I tried unsuccessfully to find a replacement bulb on line. The rest of the unit works fine. I'm told to buy a new oven. Here is a manufacturer that is filling our landfills with what should be an easy fix for the American consumer. This is the kind of irresponsible ecological manufacturing we should not support.Flavorwave Turbo Oven

Buy Camerons Products Alder and Cedar Grilling Planks, Set of 4 Now
Back in 2009 I posted a negative review on this product because the plank and my food burned to a crisp. I have since learned how to use the planks and I want to post this retraction. Here's the trick.1. Soak the plank for at least an hours completely submerged.
2. Cook on indirect heat (burners off directly under the plank)
Sorry for leaving my old review up for so long. This product works fine if you know how to use it!

Pizzacraft PC0403 8" x 8" Restaurant Style Pizza Serving Stand
The stand comes in 3 pieces and has two thumbscrews to connect the pieces together. We found this to be a feature. Other one-piece servers can't be broken down and require a lot more storage space.
The metal stand pieces are solid, not hollow, and unbendable and appear to be coated in chrome. The straight middle piece has a flat notched edge near both ends so the thumbscrews lock it into place when properly inserted and screwed (maybe prior reviewer didn't set the screws into the flat side so it kept slipping out?). We had no problems with this server when assembled. Totally sturdy and stable.
The stand also comes with 5 o-rings, two on each leg section and one on the middle connector, which provides a non-slip surface for your pizza pans to rest on. Again a nicely thought out feature. We've been in pizza restaurants where the one-piece stands with no o-rings have been used and the pans want to slide around the stand when people grab for another slice and seem more prone to having the pizza pan tip. The o-rings help resolve this issue.
With storage always a concern we found this Pizzacraft model server perfect for our needs. When used outside with our BBQ grill pizza stone to cook the pizzas and this product to serve it, we just add a domed mesh cover on top of the pizza pan to keep the insects away. The stand is very wobbly and things can fall of of it. You have to put it together yourself, you would think that the manufacturer would use once piece of metal so it would be sturdy.

It was really thin, bent and didn't stand straight. We sent it back because it was so bad. it is in multiple pieces and just slides together. Unfortunate because we cook a lot of pizza.Read Best Reviews of Pizzacraft PC0403 8" x 8" Restaurant Style Pizza Serving Stand Here

Baker's Secret Large Broiler with Grill Top
I went through *two* of these broilers in less than two months and after repeated delays awaiting a return lablel (I don't have easy access to a working printer) finally returned them to Amazon for refund -which I never(!) received, despite being assured that I would be refunded the shipping cost I paid to return them.
Despite close(!) attention to the use and care instructions, the non-stick surface of the pans began to crack/peel/flake after less than five to six washings in my automatic dishwasher. Under no circumstances whatsoever should foods of any type ever be placed in the pan.
The non-stick surface of the grills lasted longer, but they, too, eventually deteriorated, allowing foods to stick and the coating to peel.
Despite the low price I cannot recommend this item.I bought this at my local grocer for the "grill pan" so I could bake foods with less fat. After reading the instructions when I got home, I raised an eyebrow. The instructions say, "DO NOT use vegetable cooking sprays. Follow recipe instructions for greasing and flouring." I had to wonder why no use of vegetable sprays? After all, that is precisely what low fat recipes call for. I wondered if this meant that you didn't need to spray it since it was "non-stick", or that the sprays would leave a film. Because there was no explanation as to why, I just decided to follow the recipe (as the instructions said) but eliminate the specific instruction on using the spray.
The very first dish I made (oven fried chicken and specifically this recipe: ) stuck so badly to the pan that I didn't think I could actually clean it off. It took two days of soaking and multiple scrubbing sessions. I finally assumed that perhaps this was a recipe that needed to be done without a grill pan. Okay fine.
The second time I made simple baked fish. It still stuck to the grill pan. In fact, we had about half the fish I originally baked in the oven because it tore apart when I attempted to remove it. Once again, I had to soak and srub, then soak and scrub.
I then thought I'd try one more thing. I oiled the grill pan before baking chicken. It helped, but did not appear to make too much difference at all. I still had chicken stuck to the grill pan, though admittedly it was a bit better. Still, the chicken was also a bit more greasy than I wanted.
I don't know what else to say about it. The grill pan is a complete failure as far as non-stick goes. The one perk was that after being scrubbed so many times (the grill pan, not the roasting pan) it still had no scratches at all, so at the very least it is durable.
The roaster part of the pan has given me no trouble at all, but that's probably because so far I've only used it to catch the drippings. Still, the drippings that have fallen into the roaster pan wash out instantly even if dried, so that at least is definitely non-stick. It's too bad that they didn't make the "grill pan" with the same material.
I would not recommend this purchase if you're buying it for the grill pan. If you're looking at it just for the roasting pan, you can buy that alone for a cheaper price. I'd recommend doing that instead.

I may not be a master chef, but I have tried multiple times to use this broiling pan. Everytime I get the same results! The surface of the non-stick pan cannot take the heat of your oven on broil. My oven has a high and low broil setting, and even the low setting ends up with a smokey plastic smell (without food on it!). I am back on Amazon tonight to seek out a replacement. I have been craving lamb chops, and I need to get broiling!Read Best Reviews of Baker's Secret Large Broiler with Grill Top Here
I've had this pan for several years and finally threw it away today. It's a small size, which is what I needed for my 2-person family, and works fine as a broiling pan. However the grill is hard to clean even if you spray it first, and after the first use or two it was already starting to look kind of crummy. That was OK with me, since a broiler never looks good after being used, and as long as it was clean and sanitary I was happy. But for the price I think it's time to toss it and get a new one.So if you don't mind a broiling pan that looks like it's been used, you can't beat this for the price. Personally I'll be upgrading to a more expensive one now, in hopes that it will be easier to clean.I really thought I was getting a good deal. I believe I did. However I have used the pan once to broil a steak and I can't get the top of the pan completely clean. Looks like it is permanently stained.
