BBQ Hooker Four-In-One Grilling Tool

BBQ Hooker 1009L Four-In-One Grilling Tool, Left HandedThis is an item that caught my eye in one of the many e-mails received by Amazon and thought it looked clever, and wasn't too expensive. So far, I've only used it a couple of times, but love the hook on it for chicken and pork chops. Not much different than using a fork I suppose, but way cooler.

The only negative I have is the picture and description don't seem to match, which I didn't notice until I saw the picture as I was writing this review. I ordered the right handed version, thinking well, I'm right handed, and the product I received was labled "Right Hand", but apparently what that means to the manufacturer is that the spatula part is on the right hand side of the post, with the hook sticking out to the left. Either way, it was opposite of what I was wanting, but wanted to use it too bad to bother sending it back, which turned out to be a not so big deal, although just a little awkward (backward).

Overall, great product and well made.

What a GREAT gift! I gave this my husband & dad for their birthdays! They just loved this tool!!!! They could not stop talking about how cool the BBQ Hooker was. I bought a right & left hand version, as my husband is right handed and my dad a left handed. (So cool because it fit them both) They started grilling and they just had so much fun with the BBQ Hooker! They were amazed how easy it was to master the hook. They did not have to leave the grill to get a bottle opener to open their cold beer! Thanks BBQ Hooker for creating such a fun and useful gift! They even had BBQ Hooker Aprons...Very Fun! Grill Happy Family...

I purchased two of these, one for my Son and the other for my Brother-in-Law. They are both delighted with this clever little item. I saw it advertised in the Irish Times. I am now looking forward to loads of invitations to THEIR Bar-B-Q's next summer!! Highly recommended as an inexpensive but original and much appreciated gift!!

This item was featured in Real Simple magazine as a Father's Day gift suggestion. I wonder if they actually tested it. It seemed like a great concept, but in actual use it was a complete failure. We have regular family gatherings and 3 guys who can assume grill duties. NOT a single one liked this item and in fact, set it aside and used the standard utensils. A complete waste of money and as it was used, I am stuck with it....maybe it can be used in the yard. :)

Camp Chef Big Gas Grill

Big Gas 3 Burner Grill Black/redThis is the best stove for cooking and parties, this is my first try at a video review.

The stove is strong enough for me to stand on it! Check out the video.

Camp Chef SPG-90B Big Gas 3 Sports Grill, Black/Red

Email me if you have a product you want me to review, (only if you agree to unbiased review!)

I used to cook at the Nascar races and now do the Outdoor Chef segments on Gary Lewis' High Desert Outdoorsman on COTV Channel 11 Bend, OR

Keep Grilling!

The Camp Chef SPG-90B has been a perfect choice for a camp stove and the BBQ box makes a good combination on top of this 3-burner stove. It is much sturdier than it looks in photos. It sets up in 2 minutes, and really IS portable despite having 3 burners. We wanted to look at one in person, but couldn't find a retailer anywhere in the area so we took a chance on buying this on the internet. Delivery was FAST! However, the photo on the internet shows a rack underneath and the description clearly says that it comes with a rack underneath. FYI It doesn't. You have to buy one separately and it's $20-$30 from other sources. We do not regret this purchase though.

After years of bad steaks while RV-ing on numerous portable grills, I tried this unit. It is very hot! burners will be much hotter than your indoor range, unless you have a Viking professional unit. The grill box blows the doors off my considerably more expensive back yard grill. Aside from the great rare steaks from this very hot grill, I've smoked fish, pork tenderloins & racks of lamb in the grill box. I did a 5# pork loin on easter with Apple wood chips (one burner on low with chips under the grill plate. Pork loin on opposite side with burner off & a foil pan with water under it.) I also purchased the griddle. It is huge restaurant quality short order breakfasts in the campground.

negatives my thermometer also broke. We camp at the ocean, so i am getting some rust. Unit will need occasional touching up. The performance at this price point far outweighs these minor negatives. Back yard grills which can match this unit for performance & output cost at least 3 times as much.

I have had the Camp Chef SPG-90B 3 burner grill for almost 3 years now, and it is still going strong. Every major fair weather holiday my extended family descends on the old family homestead for a few days of fun and family on the banks of the Hiawasee river. We usually top 50 people, and cooking for that crowd can be a chore. With the CampChef its a breeze.

We cook everything on this thing. In the mornings, its eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes for 50 people on the griddle. The full size griddle is a must have.

In the evenings we vary the menu from night to night, so the CampChef gets a workout. We grill, fry, boil, and even bake with this thing. My mother found out last year that the grill makes for a fairly passable camp oven, and her home made blackberry and raspberry cobblers were the delicious proof.

We have also used this thing as canning and "putting up" green beans, corn, peas, and okra. It keeps 2 pressure canners and a 16 quart stock pot at a boil with no problems.

The bottom line is: Buy this and the griddle and don't look back. If I can feed 50 people twice a day with this thing, just think what it could do for a tailgate party.

I bought this grill as I had one before that totally rusted out after 3 years, but it was used a lot and we liked it. This new one came and was not near the quality as the first one, plastic nobs which if not careful when grilling will get very hot, the other grill had aluminum ones which stood further from the grill and did not get hot. The temp gauge was killed in action the first time it was used dial fell right off, now just lays there and does nothing from the bottom of the gauge. The sex screws holding the end shelf on were not all there and I will have to find a set to replace one side. I actually like this grill better than any I ever used except for the quality. If they read this review maybe I will get a new temp gauge and screws for the shelf. One more thing, the grill box on this one is not square and so does not shut evenly. I guess I should have sent it back but hate the hassle. I will fix the things wrong and use this review as my only recourse to settle hoping they go back to making them like they used to. I did review the first one with pics of the rust and it never got posted so I think maybe they post only positive ones...

Waring Portable Burner

Waring DB60 Portable Double BurnerI have owned single burners in the past for several reasons. They are nice to have when entertaining, especially around the holidays. Also, when I make shabu shabu, fondue, or a hot-pot dish, a tabletop burner is much nicer that using candles or alcohol-type burners.

I occasionally help out a friend at trade shows, demonstrating cooking techniques, and we always use single gas burners. I bought this one for when I need a slow, low heat for a long time. Gas burners need to have the butane canisters changed fairly often where this one plugs in and stays hot for as long as you need it. At home however, gas burners will be a great back-up during power outages where this one would be worthless.

I decided to show how this burner works by making this short video. I hope that it is helpful to you! Thanks.

EDIT: I am including this information about the boiling water demonstration by request: I used a heavy-duty anodized aluminium pan; the water was room temerature (72 degrees Fahrenheit); and the experiment was conducted at approximately 700 feet above sea level.

I have been using an Eclipse single for about 3 years now. Before that I used another Eclipse model but it finally quit working. Recently my latest Eclipse started acting funny and so I thought it was time to fund a replacement and while I was at it, I thought I would try to find a higher quality unit. The Waring SB30 was well rated and not too expensive, so I grabbed one.

My initial take on the SB30 was that it was very well built and sturdy. This is a great improvement over the Eclipse burners I have used in the past. My only complaint is that cord is fairly short, maybe 3ft long. The knob has a very nice and smooth action to it. The base is rather large but it is very stable with an 8qt stock pot on it, so I guess I can't complain too much about that. The burner weighs a lot. I believe most of that weight is from the metal burner itself. More on this later on.

I use this burner as my main burner as I live in a rental and the range is not so good. The burner heats up a little slow but transfers that heat to the pan very quickly. I believe this is because the burner has a lot of metal in it and that allows it to store a lot of heat. This is a very good thing for boiling water and sauteing but not such a good thing for cooking touchier foods like milk and sauces.

ONE YEAR UPDATE: The SB30 has performed great over the past year. I have not had a single problem with the burner, it looks and works like new. All in all I am very happy with it.

I've found the Waring Pro DB60 to be a solid double burner. I like the simple design with cast iron plates makes for easy clean up. The temperature control seems faster than other burners i've usedwhen turning down from 5 to 2 (high to simmer) The Waring cost more than other double electric burners on the market, but from the not convincing reviews of the others, and from using the Waring every day for several weeks i think it is definitely worth it.

This portable burner is very well made. Unlike my previous portable burner, this one is easy to keep clean. The temperature controls also work much better than the first one I tried. I have been using it on a regular basis for about 3 months.

I can't begin to say how THRILLED I am with this unit.It is, simply, the BEST, PROFESSIONAL, COMMERCIAL QUALITY unit you can find. I've had other, non-professional units--which never heat hot enough--which causes sticking-and soon stop working. The extra $$ for this unit are worth every penny.I had given up on others-and this was my last resort. These burners heat and stay HOT for even cooking and frying. I use this double burner ALL THE TIME for all types of stove cooking-in place of of my regular stove-which had died. I didn't want to purchase another stove now because we'll soon be moving. ( It does take a minute or so to heat up--not a fault--it's in the construction--because once it does reach

the temperature level you want--IT STAYS hot at that temperature.)This is the ONLY unit which gets hot enough to BOIL WATER and COOK PASTA --in a BIG POT, too--because large burner IS large....and QUICKLY.All the other units NEVER reach boiling temperature. This is because it's 1500. I, also, recommend this flat surface over the raised burner grids--which are hard to clean. These flat surfaces clean instantly. REAL metal-not plastic and substitute stuff--for easy cleaning and quality appearance. When we move and have a stove, again, I know we'll continue to use this

as an extra burner . This is the ONLY unit I would recommend over all those cheapie ones--whether they cost little or a lot.I don't write reviews very often-but just had to share and praise this one.

All Clad Stainless Steel Non-Stick Fry Pan

All Clad Stainless Steel 12-Inch Non-Stick Fry Pansuspicious of non-stick surfaces since the first pans appeared on the market, my only experience was with $20 pans with screw-on handles. you know the type. i converted all my pots and pans to all-clad and viking when i moved in 2000 and left non-stick pans in the trash. but. but last year i got an all-clad non-stick pan and i am now a convert. it is a joy to cook with and is as easy to clean as the dinner plates (i do it all by hand).

after reading these reviews i felt compelled to respond. reading about pans and surface coatings i learned that non-stick surfaces are designed to get hot as 500 degrees before they degrade. in fact, the surface material actually "off gasses" before you see the material degradation.

to enjoy the pan the way it was intended do not use it in high temperature situations. if you are going to sear, then oven broil chicken, for instance, use a traditional pan. if you are sauteing onions and vegetables, reducing a stock, or doing a stirfry, use the non-stick.

these are pricy, i know, so if you can afford only one, get the regular surface (which cooks have been using forever) and you will have a pan you can give to your grandkids.

**update**

this pan lasted me 5 years before i gave it away. it is definitely no longer non-stick and requires gobs of butter or oil to do its task. since i already have a traditional surface with the All-Clad 51125 All Clad Stainless-Steel 12-Inch Fry Pan with Lid and a non-stick equivalent with Lodge Logic L8SK3 10-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet, i don't need this non-stick pan cluttering up the kitchen.

reduced from 5 stars to 3 stars. i still love all-clad, but i will not buy expensive non-stick pans again.

People! If you're going to buy expensive non-stick pans learn the basics on how to maintain them! Read the user directions!! You should not use high heat on ANY non-stick! Using high heat voids the All-Clad warranty! High heat also eventually compromises non-stick surfaces. You should not use aerosol spray oils in non-stick as it ruins the non-stick coating. Use only utensils made to use with non-stick pots and pans. Never put very cold food in a hot pot or pan. You should not clean non-stick in dishwashers hand wash with Bon Ami and a plastic mesh scrubber. Bon Ami (or similar) also works best on All-Clad stainless. Hard-anodized pots and pans are not dishwasher safe, no matter what the brand. I can boil water in my All-Clad pots on Medium! It IS possible to brown foods in non-stick pans. I have an All-Clad non-stick grill pan (has ridges in the bottom) and I can brown sliced potatoes in it AND bacon doesn't curl when fried in it! If you want to cook as you want and abuse the pans, buy the cheap stuff and quit complaining!! I work for one of the three major top brands (not All-Clad!), so you can take all this info for what you think it's worth. All-Clad, Anolon and Calphalon cookware are investment-type purchases. Treat them as such!

Buy All Clad Stainless Steel Non-Stick Fry Pan Now

I received my All-Clad set when I got married in 2001. In general I have been very happy with this pan. It cooks great and has been through a lot of use over the past six years.

On the down side the pan is a bit heavy and the handle can get hot toward the base. As a result whenever I am cooking a 1.5lb of ground beef I need to use a pot holder to grab near the bottom of the handle so I can drain it.

The other draw back that I have recently noticed is the non-stick seal is not what it once was. I am very careful with the cleaning, high-heat, and utensils. However, food has been sticking on the pan for the past year and is getting worse.

Since All-Clad is all about durability I expect better.

I have owned this pan for a few years and it has gradually lost its non-stick coating. It is now totally useless and I am off to replace it with the Cuisinart pan that America's Test Kitchen preferred over the other non-sticks out there. I love all of my other All Clad products, but from now on I am not spending more than $50 on a non-stick pan.

Want All Clad Stainless Steel Non-Stick Fry Pan Discount?

On Sundays, I cook my lunches and dinners for the entire week. This is my new Sunday fish and seafood pan! Soon, it will become my new breakfast pan when I have to feed the six people staying with me for my family reunion.

The nonstick finish is great. I haven't had any problems with it. I like the fact that I can get the All-Clad even heat technology with a non-stick surface. Because of the non-stick surface, the pan is not dishwasher safe. However, it's so easy to clean that you don't even think about it.

Caring for nonstick

To avoid damaging the coating, you should always heat the pan with oil. The oil will smoke before the pan gets too hot to do any damage. Do not use nonstick spay with nonstick cookware. The droplets are so fine that they can form a brown film on the finish over time.

When a plan losses its nonstick properties, All-Clad suggests cleaning with a paste of baking soda and water. If the baking soda doesn't turn brown, switch to Bar Keeper's Friend and water. Always scrub with something made for nonstick cookeware.

Enjoy! This pan is big enough to feed a crowd!

Norpro Double Burger Press

Norpro Double Burger PressBought this at L&T also with the same result as the other reviewer.

You can't push down on two of these at the same time and get quality results.

You would have a better result making a ball and slapping it up against the wall.

Bought one of these at Linens and Things for $14.99. The ground meat sticks and falls apart making it impossible to get a patty. We tried using Pam, that did not help. Just bad design.

This is a great product for making 1/3 1/2 lb. burger patties. The slats that the press makes in the patty helps keep the burger nice and flat when cooking. I found that a small sheet of parchment (or wax) paper on the bottoms solves the sticking issues noted by other reviewers.

Outset F804 Stainless-Steel-Cased Steak Thermometers, Set of 4

Outset F804 Stainless-Steel-Cased Steak Thermometers, Set of 4This product is a joke. Any decent instant-read thermometer needs to be able to be adjusted. Instant-read dial thermometers, because of the nature of their construction, become inaccurate as a result of use. This item is not adjustable, and it sure needs to be. I bought a set of 4 with high hopes. After all, a short instant-read is exactly what you need when cooking steaks. Whenever I buy a new thermo, I test it against my trusty (and exactly accurate) bulb candy thermometer. From a set of 4 I got the following: (1) 40 degrees low, (2) 20 degress low, (1) 1 degree low. I I contacted the manufacturer for comments, they ignored my email. I returned the set to the store where I bought it. Nice idea, sloppy implememtation.

These little thermometers are handy at cookout time. They're well made, register the temperature fairly quickly and are pretty darned accurate. When I use these my steak is done just the way I like it every time (very pink, not bloody). If they could be left in the meat during the cooking time they would get five stars.

Bottom line, they do exactly what they are supposed to do!

Buy Outset F804 Stainless-Steel-Cased Steak Thermometers, Set of 4 Now

The first time I used these thermometers, they worked sort of OK. The temp said the filet mignon was medium. I let the steaks rest a little and yet when I served them to my guests, the steaks were rare. The next time I used the thermometers it was on a delmonico steak. The temperature never registered correctly. The steak was well done by the time the arrow started to move on the thermometer at all. I never used the others for pork or chicken; I threw both sets of thermometers out. Yes, I had to buy 2 sets in order to be able to have enough for 4 steaks. Quite an expensive mistake (no pun inteneded). I would NOT recommend this product. Save your money and buy one universal meat thermometer that will register instantly.

purchased in a high end kitchen store, first mistake. Tried for first time on steaks, both thermometers went right to 160 lingered there a few seconds, spun counterclockwise and would not register a temp after that. the 160 was not accurate, the steaks were bloody raw inside.

Now i have to try to return where purchssed on a weekend trip--miles away. could kick myself.....

Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 11-by-11-Inch Square Grill

Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 11-by-11-Inch Square GrillThis high quality grill pan really does the job. It heats up evenly and grills to perfection. I especially like the high sides of the pan. It greatly reduces the spatter that usually ends up all over your stovetop. Cleanup is a breeze, unlike other so-called non-stick grill pans I have purchased in the past. I highly recommend this grill pan.

You could not ask for a better grill pan! I found it from attending cooking classes and the chefs of Charleston were raving about it. Yes! It is the best grill pan of all. No worries about metal utensils or dishwashers. It is made from diamonds and can heat up hot enough for the best sear of those steaks!

I searched for a long time to find a grill which suites my need. I was looking for grill pan that I could insert in the oven and would take high temperatures and was deep enough that would not spatter grease inside the oven. I am very pleased with my new grill pan. So far ir is very durabble and very easy to clean. I would recommend it very much to anyone who loves grilling. I use it to grill chicken and fish. Very good grill pan, It prepares good and tasty meals.

We have only used this grill pan a half dozen times, but about 9 months ago, we purchased a set of Swiss Diamond pans from Amazon that we use on a daily basis. These are the only nonstick pans that we've every owned (and believe me, we've owned a bunch)that show virtually no signs of wear, discoloration or peeling. I generally use non-metallic spatulas and spoons, although the manufacturer says that you can use metal. I had read Consumers Reports about the various nonstick pans and looked at the recommendations. What convinced me to try these Swiss Diamond pans were reviews from customers that were furious that the top rated pans had gone to pot (I couldn't resist that) after a few months of heavy use. I'm sure that the grill pan will perform as well as the other seven pots and pans that we've used for the past 9 months. I doubt if we will ever buy any other nonstick pan. One note: the manufacturer recommends that you preheat all of these pans for several minutes before using. That is good advice.

Rosle Dual Functioning Mini Grill and Oven Thermometer, Set of 4

Rosle Dual Functioning Mini Grill and Oven Thermometer, Set of 4I grill a lot and in general I am a gadget guy. I have a couple of the wireless temperature probe sensor thermometers, and I have a fork type thermometer. I seen these and thought this would be something that would be easy to use. I have only used them 3 times. I like my steak medium rare. When I took my steak off when the thermometer showed medium rare and after the steak sit for a few minutes, it was medium/medium well. The next time I grilled I used the thermometers in conjunction with my fork thermometer. When my fork thermometer was at the desired temp the Rosle thermometer dial had hardly move. I was grilling 4 steak also and each thermometer dial was slightly different. I do not regret buying them, maybe they will work out eventually. If they break, would I replace them, no. A plus and the main reason I bought them, they can be left on the grill during cooking (I only insert on the last flip of the steak).
