Wusthof Gourmet 6-1/2-Inch Offset Slotted Spatula

Wusthof Gourmet 6-1/2-Inch Offset Slotted SpatulaWhile this spatula is shaped and traditionally used to turn fish filets, I've found it to be a good general purpose spatula including for folding omelets. The metal has just the right balance of flex but yet is stiff enough to hold up to heavy meats without bending. The angled and wide shape of the tip plus the length of the spatula all works to make this a better metal spatula than many of the other spatulas I own including the Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula.

So far I've used it for cooking omelets, chicken breasts, scallops, and even salmon fillets and this spatula handled every task well with no problems.

PROS:

About the right balance and feel in one's hands making it comfortable to use.

The angled and thin metal blade has the right amount of stiffness and flex to get underneath whatever food you need to turn. The wider tip provides more area for supporting your food item.

CONS:

The plastic handle is not heat resistant (will melt slightly if left on a hot pan).

The spatula does not have a full tang which could add slightly better balance and justify the cost.

Yeah, it is expensive. But I got mine when the Amazon price was about what Cooks Illustrated listed as the cost.

It is designed for a right-handed cook because of the angle of the blade makes it awkward for left-handed cooks. So if you are left handed you may want to consider the Rosle spatula Rosle 12.6" Perforated Angled Spatula.

We bought this based upon Cooks Illustrated's recommendation as the best fish spatula, and were not disappointed. It is wonderfully thin yet sturdy, and has a sharp leading edge for getting under fish, cookies, whatever. A great addition worth the space in the gadgets drawer. Be aware, though, that the sharpness makes it inappropriate for use with non-stick pans, which it will scratch.

I just received this item. But if you are used to the quality of Wusthof knives be prepared for a let down. This is the Gourmet line not the Classic.

Metal portion is a metal stamping with only the front/back surfaces polished. The outside edges and the edges in the slots are still rough. A good place for bacteria to grow.

However, I suspect it will work well.

I originally purchased this slotted spatula as a "fish spatula", but it has worked well as a general purpose spatula (except for non-stick surfaces). My only small gripe is that the black surface on the handle is a plastic with a relatively low melting point I leaned it against a hot pan and it melted slightly after a few minutes.

I have used this spatula for pancakes, toast, and omelets. It has served me well in all three scenarios. The handle is not heatproof, and for the price, it really should be, thus the four stars.

Ronco ST8000WHGEN Showtime GrillWave Microwave Griller

Ronco ST8000WHGEN Showtime GrillWave Microwave GrillerAnother piece of Junk made in China and sold by the Ronco company. Does NOTHING like a grill, mostly plastic and falls apart. I threw it out after one use. but I did recycle it because it is plastic!

Don't waste your money on the Ronco Showtime GrillWave Microwave Griller! First, it is very cheaply made. It does not grill food. First time I used it, it took 25 minutes for hash browns. Tasted terrible & never browned. Second, Teflon scratched off first time I tried to wash it. Metal grill inside bent, I cut my finger on the metal thangs on the back. I would pass on this because it is don't work & is way over priced!

Tried to make a simple cheese and ham sandwich in the Microwave using this grill, it was a mess.

I new I was taking a risk when I bought this one so I am not angry about it but it does not work. I tried to cook a steak on it and I might as well of just put it on a plate. Cooked it from the inside out and did not grill it. There is hope though if like me you only have a microwave to cook with. I also purchased two other microwave grills and they work! They cost $40+ but will cook a steak perfectly and roast chicken breast. One is made by Microware and the other is made by Microhearth and both are sold by Amazon. The first comes with a variety of other items (muffin pan and steamer) but the instructions are in Chinese or something similar so it takes trial and error to work out your recipes. They are both sturdy and will last with the proper care, not for regular ovens and best hand cleaned with soft non-abrasive sponge.

We couldn't be more pleased with these grill skewers. They are sharp enough to pierce the veg, fish and meat we grill. They are flat so that the cherry tomatoes and round things stay put and don't roll around or fall off. They are easy to clean (we often through them in the top rack of the dishwasher. Chefscape PRGR1000 Grill, VersaGrill

Chefscape PRGR1000 Grill, VersaGrillI purchased this grill just over a week ago and I think I have made a very smart purchase. I bought the Chefscape Versagrill for $69.99 at a local discounter, Tuesday Morning. It is solidly built and comes with two grease cups and a cup to attach to the grill to warm sauces, butter, syrup, etc., as well as a tool to facilitate cleanup of the grill plate ridges. The Versagrill's short cord (3-prong) stores in the base of the unit. The heating element is imbedded in each of the two cooking plates. There is a 99 minute timer on the unit. I particularly like that the Versagrill's cooking plates are reversible, including a smooth griddle side for cooking pancakes, grilled sandwiches, veggies, meats, fish and the other side is ribbed and gives meat, shrimp, paninis and other foods beautiful grill marks. You can easily change the surfaces to have grill marks on top and smooth surface on the bottom, vice-versa, grill marks on both sides or both sides smooth. What sold me on this machine were the facts that the unit opens up to a full 180 degrees to give you a 12" x 20" surface to cook on and the range of temperatures from "Warm" which is 175 degrees to "Sear" which is 475 degrees. The Versagrill will beep three times to let you know when it has heated to the temperature you have selected. I cooked a New York strip steak in 2 minutes at 325 degrees (Medium) to medium-rare by closing the top down, thus cooking two sides at once. Shrimp takes a minute or less. Tip: make sure ingredients and proteins are dry by patting with a paper towel before seasoning, to get great browning. The hinge design allows you to "float" the top over delicate items. You can even use the unit to keep a pot of something warm, as on a buffet, by opening the unit up 180 degrees and placing the heat-safe pot on top of it. I've already used the unit 3 times and can see that this will get a lot of use in my house. It is simple to operate and easy to clean---the cooking plates can be removed and dunked in hot soapy water to clean. The non-stick surface seems heavy duty and the Versagrill comes with a 3 year warranty. I will be giving my Cuisinart panini grill away.

I consider this grill one of the best in the market place, after using Chefscape for about month. At my time of purchase their were only two reviews which convinced me to purchase. Nothing mention about wattage, which is 1500 watt. It does have a short power cord of 36 inches. With the lift out cooking grills, its makes for easy cleaning and choice of smooth or grill marks. Would I purchase this unit again, YES, Absolutely.........

George Foreman GR19BW Contemporary Design Grill with Bun Warmer, Silver

George Foreman GR19BW Contemporary Design Grill with Bun Warmer, SilverThis is my first Foreman grill. I really like the convenience and my family loves the flavor. It cooks quickly, making it handy on those nights when I'm pressed for time. I haven't had any trouble with cleaning it or it getting too hot. I do have some issues with the bun warmer though. First of all, it doesn't seem to work all that well, taking longer to warm than the grill does to grill. Also, the flimsy warmer cover pops open whenever it's bumped making it awkward to handle and clean...occasionally it comes completely off. I would definately buy another Foreman grill, but a model without the warmer.

I'm sorry, but this is hopeless for the following reasons :

(1) It is hot after cooking and with a mit on you cannot open it without moving the grease tray, but then grease runs out onto your counter. The part you put your hand on to open it is not real hot compared to the edge but even without a mit the clearance between the grease tray and the place you open it is small and it is real easy to accidentally move it when opening.

(2) The instructions said to cook a large hamburger 8-9 minutes for medium, I tried that, burned to a crisp. I said "fine", and I tried 4 minutes. The hamburger was burned crisp on the surface and medium to rare inside, in other words it is too hot for a hamburger.

(3) And here's a big one, it is easy to have the extremely hot rear part touch the power cord when putting food into a preheated grill. Obviously this is very dangerous.

I must say, I have not been the best cook. I just started cooking since February of this year (2005) and have been horrible at it. Well of course, each time, I do improve but nothing close to a normal person. An uncle of mine suggested a George Foreman grill. I got this today and I have made a grill cheese sandwich as well as a fantastic pork steak. I looooooove my meat done well. The best thing about this grill is, the pork was cooked well done and yet was so soft and tender from the inside. Now how many of us get the bullseye at the first shot? I highly recommend this.

Great for small servings if you are trying to watch your weight or serving size. It truly will not let you go over the required amount.

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Grill Grid Lifter with Black Wood Handle

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Grill Grid Lifter with Black Wood HandleIt broke the very first time I used it. The spot welding is incredibly poor quality. I returned it and got a refund that's the good news. It is great in concept, but the quality is horrid.

when I rec'd this product, it looked like a fairly well made product. However; the FIRST TIME I used it, it broke ... it would not pick up the grate even once. This is not a large grill . . .it's a fairly small kettle grill like a Weber, but it's STOK brand.

I've returned the broken one to Amazon for credit.

First time that I used the product the metal piece that goes through the grate and actually lifts the grate broke off. Unfortunately the first time that I used the product was AFTER the date for no-cost return of the product (by two days). It will be cheaper to look for other alternatives than pay for shipping back and forth.

Would not have expected such low quality from a Steven Raichlen product.

Want Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Grill Grid Lifter with Black Wood Handle Discount?

It worked fine for handling my 18" cast iron grate while it lasted.

The black parts of the handles were painted wood, not bakelite as the product page states; the paint is flaking off pretty badly after only about 6 months. Granted, it has been stored mostly in an outdoor storage bin, seeing the elements for a night or so every once in a while, but I'm still not impressed with how the paint failed to hold up.

The real problem is the spot welds at the base; of the two holding it to the vertical tube, one is burned through the material pretty badly, and the other left hardly more than 3/32" of material connecting the two pieces the latter weld is what broke, but the other one is not far behind. In any case, it's now useless after just one grilling season.

If you're going to buy one, take a look and sanity check all the spot welds while it's still within the amazon return window or buy something else that will hold up.

GrillPro 98245 Stainless Steel Multi Roaster and SteamerMy husband and I love beer can chicken. Always comes out so moist and the skin so crispy. We just had a cheapie holder and it was always difficult to remove the chicken once it was done. This roaster makes everything so easy. The roaster is big enough to hold a good size bird. The holder for the beer can keeps the can in the roaster so it doesn't lift out with the bird. The grease will drain to the bottom so you can line the roaster pan with veggies if you wish to make a complete meal in one step. Clean up has been easy. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Lodge Logic LSRG3 Single-Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle, 10.5-inch

Lodge Logic LSRG3 Single-Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle, 10.5-inchOver the years, I have bought several "non-stick" griddles, but those coatings always turn gummy, flake off, and don't clean well. Finally, I came to my senses and realized cast iron doesn't flake, is truly non-stick, cleans with hot water, and if it turns gummy, a little re-seasoning always fixes the problem. I love cast iron; love the shiny black non-stick surface that develops over time. Food always tastes great on iron, also. But I had never had a piece of pre-seasoned cast iron, so I was a bit skeptical about skipping the seasoning routine. The griddle got a good hot-water-only rub down out of the box, a generous coating of oil, and set on the stove to preheat for pancakes. The first one stuck just a little, but that was a temperature problem. All the rest of the pancakes were perfect no sticking at all! And they were actually fluffier and had a crispier crust than usual, while the insides were oh-so-tender. Best pancakes ever! If this griddle cooks this well straight out of the box, I can't wait till it develops that beautiful shiny black patina!

Don't wait as long as I did: order this griddle soon! You really can use it immediately, and like all good cast iron, with proper care, it will last a lifetime!

Great little grill for just two people! I grill burgers, vegies and more on this. I was going to get the larger size but decided this would be perfect for what I needed. It isn't too hard to clean up as long as you don't leave the food or grease on it for too long. Just wash it with water and a stiff brush and then dry and season. It will last you a lifetime and more with proper care!

Works as well as my cast iron pan but doesn't have sides so it is easier to get under foods to flip them. More useable space to cook on.

Want Lodge Logic LSRG3 Single-Burner Reversible Grill/Griddle, 10.5-inch Discount?

I have lots of cast iron, mostly Lodge.

I was contemplating getting the wider Lodge grill Lodge Logic LPG13 Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle (the one that's good for straddling two burners -that one measures 20" by 10.5"), but decided on just the single one (10.5" by 10.5"). I use the smooth side for pancakes and crepes, and recently started using the grill side for steaks and chicken.

I used to use my skillet for steaks (a la Alton Brown), but I just love the grill marks. Especially since the grill of this Lodge piece goes diagonally, I put my steaks (and chickens and pork chops) at a straight 90 degree angle. While I normally cook my steaks by letting it sit there for about a minute (on high, of course), with this grill, I've gone to moving/rotating the steak another 90 degrees. It gives it that great criss-cross pattern (hey, part of good tasting food is good looking food).

With my steak sizes, I can only cook 1 steak at a time. Not really a problem since it takes me only two minutes or so per steak (rare to medium rare).

If you want a bigger area that straddles two burners, get that version instead (and, at the time of this writing, the other one which is twice the size is only a scant few dollars more; great value!). For me, this is perfect. Basically, choose your weapon. :)

Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional Breadmaker

Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional BreadmakerMy mother taught me to make homemade bread as a child and I have been making it ever since, but a breadmaker certainly is easier. I've had two, a Magic Chef which stopped working after I accidentally left the pan soaking overnight (the mechanism that turns the paddle won't budge), and a Zojirushi, which I now use every week, and don't leave soaking in the sink. (I chose the Zojirushi because it had good reviews and because I have their rice steamer and love it.)

Features I like: Double paddles. This is absolutely the way to go if you want a horizontal loaf, otherwise some of the flour can get stuck in a corner and not get mixed up. You can solve this by scraping the sides during mixing, but having to do that sort of defeats the purpose of a breadmaker.

Another thing I like is the "Homemade" setting, which allows you to customize the cycle times. The default is for French Bread, which, incidentally, comes out very well. One caution, their recipe calls for 3 teaspoons of yeast, which caused it to overrise. I now use 2 teaspoons and get great results. Also, the "default" setting for Homemade/French Bread wasn't set correctly on mine at first, but the instruction manual listed the correct settings and it was easy to reprogram. Good instruction manual, by the way.

One other nice feature is the preheat cycle. The trickiest part with bread machines is getting the right amount of yeast for the machine's timed rise cycles. Cold liqueds slow down yeast action, warm ones speed it up. I've found that the preheat cycle helps give more uniform results. (Age and amount of yeast affects it too, but the breadmachine can't compensate for that.)

Most of the other features, like jam and cake settings, I never use.

Disappointments: The window gets steamed up during processing and opening the cover causes it to pause so you can't really watch what it is doing. Also, the delay timer only works with the "Basic" bread setting. I wanted to set it to have French bread ready when I came home, and couldn't.

The thing I use most: The "Dough" setting. I prefer to let the breadmaker mix everything up for me and do all the initial risings, and then throw it in a pan for the last rising and bake it myself. This way the paddles don't get baked into the bottom of the loaf, and I don't have to worry about over or under rising. Honestly, it is the yeast that causes most problems people have with breadmakers. Old yeast, or not enough, and your bread comes out like a brick. Too much and it either overrises and sticks to the top, as it did the first time I made French bread with 3 tsp. of yeast, or it caves in during baking and you have a U-shaped top. (If it rises but the top is flat, rather than rounded, it's not the yeast. You probably have too much liqued or too little flour adjust accordingly.)

I don't use mixes, so I can't comment on that, but I have an electric wheat grinder and often use fresh ground whole wheat (which they don't recommend), and this breadmachine handles it beautifully. I like being able to use all healthy ingredients, like whole wheat instead of white flour, and honey instead of refined sugar. In this case though it does need extra yeast, since the whole wheat flour is heavier.

I recommended this breadmaker to both my step-mother and my best friend, so I guess that's a pretty high recommendation. (My mother still does it by hand. Maybe someday I'll get her to try a machine.)

Let me save you the time of reading all prior reviews to this date, as I have gone through them all and can sum them up for you. In fact, I was one of the consumers who raved about this machine after receiving it last Christmas, giving it 5 stars...

Of course, I had only owned it for two months at the time. It IS a fantastic machine at first, producing perfect results every time. It does have some unbeatable features, but it seems that other companies are catching up and now incorporate the same ones. (Such as the horizontal loaf style, automatic preheat cycle, warming cycle, add ingredients cycle, various crust settings, viewing window, etc.) The problem is not with its features, but in lasting quality.

After making an average of a loaf per week for the last year, this machine DOES start to wear rapidly. Generally speaking, Amazon consumer reviews indicate that people begin experiencing trouble anywhere between 6 and 18 months of use. The problems are all the same: Rusting/chipping paddles, rusting/warping pan, and unevenly shaped loaves.

This didn't happen at first. The loaves never stuck, and the ingredients mixed well. The bread had the proper shape and baked evenly. The results were perfect and consistent every time... in the beginning. I assumed there were just a couple of lemons out there, since the majority of reviews were glowing. But if you take the time to go through all of them, you'll notice that most of the glowing reviews are from consumers who haven't had the machine very long. At that time, being so thrilled and impressed, I enthusiastically recommended it to everyone as well.

Now the bread won't release from the pan as easily as it once did. When it was new, it only took one or two shakes. Now it becomes a battle, whether you remove the bread immediately after the cycle is done or once it has warmed and cooled. Also, the paddles stick in the bread every single time, no matter what kind of bread you make. It's impossible not to tear the bread in order to remove them.

None of this is a major a problem, but add to that uneven browning and an unevenly shaped loaf... I have to admit I'm disappointed. It seems that one of my paddles must not be working properly, because one end of the loaf is considerably smaller than the other. If I don't catch it at the end of the kneading cycle and correct the shape before the rising/baking cycle, the result is a VERY misshapen loaf that is burned on one end.

I'm also noticing that it doesn't mix the ingredients as well as it once did, leaving raw flour on the bottom/sides of the loaf, and in different parts of the machine. Again: must be a paddle problem. Like several others' experience, my bread pan is starting to rust on the underside, too. To replace the bread pan plus two paddles will cost over $110, so why bother? If my bread pan starts to warp like others' have (which makes the paddles scrape the pan during kneading), I will try a different brand rather than replace its parts. If the Zo parts were less expensive, I might show a bit more loyalty.

Although I have no experience with other brands and am unaware if these are universal problems, it sounds like the Panasonic has been highly rated, even above the Breadman. I would check consumer reports next time to be certain, though.

I am giving the Zojirushi 3 1/2 to 4 stars now, but I'm afraid I'll end up rating it 3 stars or less if it continues to decline. It's still better than baking bread by hand in any case... Nothing beats how easy it is to simply throw the ingredients in a machine, turn it on, and have freshly baked bread in 3 1/2 hours. However, you may want to research another brand.

Buy Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional Breadmaker Now

After major research of available breadmakers, I chose the Zo a couple of years ago and have never been disappointed. It was my first breadmaker. My final choice was based on features, reviews, and support from both manufacturer and the breadmachine community (web forums, etc.).

In my mind the important features are the size and shape of the loaf, the ability of the machine to produce a properly kneaded loaf, the flexibility to create your own bread making process flow (knead, rise, bake, etc.), and the durability to make any kind of bread (white or whole multi grain). The Zo was the only one that combined all of these in one machine in a way that suited my needs.

The folks who have had problems with this machine either received a bad machine (and should return it) or can't follow directions. There is no margin for error when using a breadmachine. You must follow the recipe EXACTLY (unless you are at higher elevations).

If this is your first breadmachine I also highly recommend the books Bread Machine Magic and More Bread Machine Magic. These are well written books with a nice variety of recipes that always worked the first time for me. The machine comes with a good manual with a few recipes that are also good but is a little short on bread making theory (which is nice to have when things go wrong).

Is it perfect? Nearly, but my wish list includes more flexibility with some of the settings (sometimes there is no need for the preheat cycle) and more programs (create your own bradmaking process). The window leaves a lot to be desired as well, but that applies to almost all of the machines. Don't expect those little windows to work like they do in a regular oven!

At our house this machine gets used not only to make bread, but for bread dough for baking in the oven and fresh made pizza dough (one of life's important little treats).

All of our recipes are made from scratch, but in the beginning I also used mixes from King Arthur Flour---highly recommended! The premade mixes are great in the beginning of your breadmachine adventures as they eliminate one source of error (measuring ingredients).

All things considered, when the time comes, my next machine will be a Zo 20 as well.

I have been using a National bread machine for about 7 years making a loaf a week on the average. Last year I bought the Zojirushi to have another machine. What an improvement in bread quality! The twin blades make a huge difference. French bread is much less time. clean up is much easierC

I've had my machine for a little over one year, my fourth one in an assortment of brands and price ranges during my 12 years of bread machine experiences. First time I tried to use the crust control in the whole weat setting, it didn't work. Okay, okay, I should have sent it back right then and there, but life got in the way and I "forgave" that little glitch. I also tried to overlook the paleness of the loaves. And when my husband complained that the darn loaf won't come out of the pan without prying it out with a plastic spatula and tearing the loaf apart, I blamed it on whatever, just so I wouldn't have to deal with the hassle of customer service and returns and such because I was not feeling well.

Then we noticed rust "growing" underneath the pan where the plate is attached, and I noticed oil leaks from the paddle clips. I called the nearest Zojirushi dealership in New York and asked about a replacement pan. The dealer told me I should wash that stuff off, he immerses his pan into water all the time. I tried that, but the problem merely got worse. Also, the flaking paddles and scorched sides of the pan were unwelcome signs of poor craftsmanship as far as I'm concerned since I had not seen this before, not even in less expensive brands.

A week ago suddenly the bottom bent up around one of the blades, which now scrapes down to the bare metal during kneading and makes a horrendous noise. The idea of eating metal flakes is not becoming, so I hopped online to get a replacement pan and new paddles. The pan costs $88.95, each paddle $12.95, for a lovely total of $114.85 plus shipping.

That's when I logged on to Amazon.com, to see what other owners of this machine had to say. And I've decided to look for another brand instead of investing any more money into this disappointing machine.

I've owned a Zojirushi electronic rice cooker for 13 years. That machine still performs outstanding, which was my main reason for choosing Zojirushi's breadmaker. I thought I was getting the same high quality. What a let-down! And I thank all you reviewers who shared their problems with this brand!

Taylor 5* Commercial Digital Cooking Thermometer & Timer - Probe - Wireless Remote

Taylor 5* Commercial Digital Cooking Thermometer & Timer - Probe - Wireless RemoteMy spouse bought this for my birthday this year,2011. I used it about a dozen times when I notice problems with the wire leading to the metal probe. The heat caused the plastic to melt and the wires to short out therefore not giving accurate readings. I really only want to purchase the defective part. I really love this product if only I could find the part !!

It was father's day and my dad just purchased a new grill, so I decided that it wouldn't be bad to get him a barbecue set. The set is very complete with many different barbecue tools. I am not a big grill cooker, but there is a good chance I will buy this for myself. It seems to have every tool I would ever think about when looking at a grill set.

In general, it is a solid, stainless steel set, and while the tools did not feel as high quality as I would have liked, they a decent affordable set. The case seems fine. I expect it to be discarded eventually anyway, since very few people would keep their cooking utensils in a case.

The tools are solid, get the job done fine, and if I had to buy it again, I would.

Charcoal Companion 17-Inch Flame Resistant Black BBQ or Oven Mitt

Charcoal Companion 17-Inch Flame Resistant Black BBQ or Oven MittI got two of these "BBQ mitts" for my husband after he ruined one of my oven mitts handling a very hot cast iron skillet on the gas grill. That poor yellow mitt was scorched beyond belief. I figured black BBQ mitts would be perfect for him. They're longer than normal oven mitts, well constructed and fit great. Problem is, they fit ME. And I'm a woman. They are surprisingly narrow across the knuckle area. My husband will never be able to get his hands in those things. So these will be perfect for you if have trouble with normal mitts being way too big. Keep looking if you're shopping for a man!

I had been searching for a BBQ mitt that was of this material type. All I found were mitts made of silicon or similar materials, or the mitt did not provide sufficient coverage on my arm. This is just what I was looking for and American made too!!!! Thank you

Using this mitt makes me fearless in baking. It is long enough to protect my arms when I reach into the oven and it is the most heat-proof oven mitt I have ever had. It has seen some hard use in the 8 weeks I've owned it and has been through the washing machine 3 times, but it shows no signs of wear at all. It is all I need in an oven mitt.

I first bought this 1 year ago and loved it. It was heavy duty. I just clicked on my old order and went to buy it again. What came in the mail this time is terrible. It is a bad "Made in China" knockoff. The 1st one was made in America. The Chinese version is thin and worthless. I will be returning it.

Terrible. I ordered because of the length of the mitt (I often burn my forearms on the upper oven rack). I used the mitt once (and note, it's not a pair, just one). I took a cookie sheet out of a 350-degree oven, and felt the heat immediately through the mitt; it offered virtually no protection, compared to my 10-year old mitts that at least allow me to carry a cookie sheet across the kitchen before I can feel any warmth through the mitt. I'll keep using the old, frayed mitts for now & keep looking for a better replacement.
