I was so excited about my purchase but this product is very disappointing. My pie crust came out of the oven with a deep heart shaped depression in it. I was bummed that it ruined my pie crust and then the side seam ripped and the ceramic beads fell out while I was gently hand washing it. Don't waste your money...buy a pie chain instead.

Iwatani Corporation of America GM-5 Gas Match/Butane Lighter

I tried the Iwatani butane lighters because the ones I've bought at supermarkets develop problems before the butane runs out. The safety lock or trigger gets hard to move. The safety lock on the Iwatani is a rolling wheel rather that a slide-switch and is much easier to operate. Four stars for a well engineered product. It's disposable, so the quality is about the same as the competition. If it was refillable, I'd rate it 5 stars.

I bought this grill for someone who forgets to turn off burners. When the set time is up it automatically turns off. It's also much easier to clean with the removable plates. They really like using it. I would recommend this grill for anyone, but especially for people with memory problems. I may buy one for myself, but my George Forman grill is still going strong after several years.

Just replaced my old George with this new one. It is smaller than my old one, but a better size for two people. The removable heating plates are the best of the improvements. They snap off easily and can be soaked in the sink. This eliminates alot of wear and tear when cleaning the non-stick surfaces. The timer function is nice too, but the beeper pitch is so high only dogs can hear it. Maybe I need a hearing aid. The other handy feature is that it folds up and stores against the counter wall, leaving more available counter space. As for the cooking, It works just like the old one.

Char-Griller 5050 Duo Gas-and-Charcoal Grill

I used a Weber charcoal grill for years. I used it to grill and smoke. I loved the taste of charcoal, but finally got tired of the hassle. When I saw the duo, I thought my prayers had been answered. They were....but not really.

This is definitely the most versatile grill on the market (I added the smoker box) but they could have done so much more to make it a 'great' grill. When I saw the price tag, I was worried about the craftmanship. My worries were justified.

First, the materials that the grill is made out of are pretty good. The steel is heavy, the grills are solid, and the frame is rigid. The problem is the design and craftsmanship. A previous reviewer complained about the wheels being cheap plastic. Chargriller must have taken the advice, because the wheels that I have are fairly solid. It took about 2 hours to put the grill together by myself. While putting it together, I noticed the charcoal side and smoker are far from air-tight, not good for charcoal and smoking. You want a very tight charcoal grill so temperature can be controlled precisely by the dampers (the Weber I had was as tight as a drum). This grill is far from air-tight. The area around the lid has about a 1/4 inch gap and the smoker has many many areas where the pieces don't fit together perfectly. There are also a few holes in the smoker where screws for the feet would have gone (the smoker can also be a standalone grill). All these gaps and cracks make it nearly impossible to control the heat. With all the dampers closed, I should be able to smother the fire/coals/wood, but the grill burns at 400+ degrees even with all the dampers closed!!!

Other Cons:

When the lids are open, the warming racks go up/back right over the lid. Anything that drips off the warming rack goes right down the lid and onto the ground behind the grill. I found this out the hard way after an afternoon of cooking burgers. What a mess!

There are no bumpers around the grilling perimeter. One bad spatula or tong move and your meat will slide right off in any direction! They should have at least put a bumper in the back!

The joints aren't tight. Any grease that drips down on the propane side in the corners between the bottom and side pieces of the grill goes right between the two pieces of metal and drips on the propane tank.

No natural gas option

Pros:

Propane, charcoal, smoker, side stove. Nuff said

Cover that was ordered separately covers everything, including smoker box.

Lots of grilling surface

Grill plates are nice, solid, iron.

All in all, I would have paid $500 for this grill if it were of better quality. I'm not to upset, because I feel I got what I paid for, a substandard grill at a low price.

Ok, so this is for the grill, NOT the price. Amazon's price on this item is WAY too high but that isn't what the review is for... I got mine at a sporting goods store for under $250 so shop around.

This is a fantastic grill, it is really versitile.

Pros:

Allows you to cook with charcoal, gas, or smoke (with the optional side firebox)

The 3 burners on the gas side are close to the cooking surface which makes it really easy to control the cooking temperature.

The side firebox somes with cooking grates for grilling 1-2 steaks

Cons:

The grease pan is difficult to clean

The ash tray can be cumbersome to remove

It could really use some better wheels, this is a HEAVY grill if you have the firebox attached and moving it around is tough.

No option for using natural gas as a fuel source

The Cons are all relatively minor in my opinion. This is a great grill, I'd buy another one for sure.

My husband and I searched and searched for a grill that could do both charcoal and gas. I found this one on Amazon. I love the fact that it offers a smoking option. The burners on the gas side fire up easily and on the charcoal side you can raise and lower the rack you put the charcoal on. It's heavy enough that it hasn't once tipped over from strong winds.(I've had that problem with other grills I've had.) I also like the fact that the gas and the charcoal are completely separate. You can smoke meat on the charcoal side while you are cooking on the gas side. I've had the grill for almost a year and it still works great!

On the con side...

-It rusts easily, even with putting vegetable oil on the surfaces like it directs you too. You have to clean out the charcoal ashes after every use and it's not the easiest to clean. The rack that holds the charcoal doesn't come off the rack that catches the ashes, so rust is bound to form. You will definitely need the cover, unless you plan on storing it inside out of the elements when not in use. A heads up on the cover...although it fits the grill perfectly, it doesn't have elastic on the bottom to stop it from coming off in the wind. We used a couple bungee cords to hold the cover on and that is working great.

-The grease drip pan on the gas side doesn't fully come off making that difficult to clean as well.

Even despite it's cons, I would recommend this grill. It serves it's purpose for the quickness of gas, but also the flavor of charcoal.

My dad bought me this grill as a house warming present when I moved to Texas in October of 2010. At this point it is less than 10 months old. Originally it worked great. I have used the gas side, the charcoal side and have smoked ribs and chicken using the attached fire (smoke) box.

A few comments about the assembly. Lots of parts but it goes together easily enough.

1)The smoke box just kind of hangs on the side with no real support built in. Pretty flimsy.

2)The tabs that hold the charcoal grill rack are very weak and I actually broke one off during installation.

3)The stainless indirect food racks are flimsy and are held in place by screwing a nut onto a screw. The nut is not fixed and the screw and nut assemblies continue to loosen and come undone through use.

5) The unit is rusting out terribly in the side burner side wall of the gas chamber. .

6) (The Biggy). This unit must have some kind of design flaw. Three times now, the unit has completely caught on fire. The first time it happened I was cooking burgers for the family. Eight to ten burgers. The side walls, bottom, and grease tray completely became engulfed in flames. I was able to put the fire out with a hose but thought I was going to have to call the fire department. I completely cleaned the unit thinking that I had overused it. It happened again two uses later and then again when I was out of town and my wife and sons had to deal with it. I won't let them use it when I am not around now and am going to call Lowe's to see if it can be replaced or returned.

I know a thing or two about grills and was in the barbeque restaurant business for 9 years. I have never seen anything like this. Please post if you have had the same problems.

I bought this grill with high hopes (but not enough knowledge.) It had exactly what I needed, gas for convenience and charcoal/smoke for cooking low and slow. For the first 6 months I loved it! I smoked brisket, ribs, pork shoulder and other BBQ treats (I am a Texan, so I have a legacy to uphold) every other weekend and had good success. I bought the manufacturers custom cover. Sadly, within the first year the outside was covered with rust, even with regular use of the cover. Within 18 months the metal ledge inside the gas side of the grill that hold the grates up had rusted though, making the grill unusable. I called Chargriller and found that they warranty the charcoal side of the grill body for 5 years, but the gas only 1. Both sides are made of the same material. Obviously they were aware that the materials used on the gas side were not up to snuff.

I have spoken with their service department and they are nice, friendly and ultimately of no help. After they pointed out I had no warranty i said "So, I guess I am out of luck." The rep said "well, that doesnt sound very good." I said "But it does describe my situation, right?" She couldnt help but agree.

Sometimes a great seeming product at a great seeming price is just too good to be true.

Anyone who has either an outside grill or uses a woodstove to heat during the winter will find these gloves absolutely essential. I actually have several pair as we use them both at the house and also at the new summer cabin in northern New Hampshire. They are very well constructed and are quite durable. They have a heavy-duty leather exterior, but are very comfortable due to their soft synthetic lining. The pairs I have are royal blue, with light gray piping on them. They are extremely well insulated, which maximizes your protection from flame and soot, and they are specially designed for outdoor cooking. As I say, they are so well made I also use them for tending to my wood stoves. Enjoy!

These gloves are good because they cover the whole hand and wrist, allow for good manual dexterity, and stand up well to abuse.

My only gripe is that they allow a lot of heat in, eventually. Sure, you can grab a hot cookie sheet from an oven, but if you leave the glove on your hand for 10 seconds that heat is going to transfer and make it very uncomfortable for your fingers. So if you use them, make sure to take 'em off right after you're done grabbing the hot stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I love these things. The only problem is that they're not entirely heat-proof. They're meant to be used when handling hot stuff, not to be confused with handling fire. I have several scorch marks on my gloves because I wasn't careful with them. Use them as the manufacturer advises; as an aid to handling utensils and food on a hot grill. If you want something fireproof, buy something made of asbestos, but be prepared to pay a lot more money for them.

I had been using regular work gloves to load/unload my smoker. It was tricky and hazardous at best. I came upon this product while searching for grilling accessories and decided to give it a shot. They are absolutely perfect for handling anything hot for anywhere up to 2-3 minutes or so. The top of the gloves extend out and halfway up the forearm, so no more burned arm hairs! The fingers are very flexible and allow you to grip any kind of grilling tool or even handle the hot food itself without a problem. They have proven to be very durable also, as I use them at least once or twice a week

My Partner bought these for me. I actually use them for indoor cooking because most cooking mitts don't go far enough up the arm. The gloves are helpful when you have to reach further back into your oven. I also love the freedom of individual finger movement. The only 2 downfalls are (A) They had a VERY strong chemical smell when I first opened the package (Thankfully it disappeared over time), (B) They don't have a ring to allow you to hang them on a wall hook.

It is solidly built, no wobbles to the joint of the handle, and well-balanced. It is very comfortable to use, which is important to me as I have severe problems with arthritis. If I ever need a grill press for a gift, this will be the one I look for!

I've been satisfied with Old Mountain products previously, and this one is no exception. It's solidly built, nice and heavy, and the coil handle does cool reasonably quickly. My only minor complaint is that the heads of the screws holding the handle on are exposed on the bottom of the press, and mine protruded slightly when we received it. I tightened them down and it's been fine, and I suppose if you're using this with other cast iron cookware, there's no real danger of damaging anything, but it wasn't exactly what I'd expected.

The heaviest press I could find available on Amazon, great size too. I replaced the metric bolts fastening the handle with stainless steel ones & added stainless steel lock & flat washers I got at my local Ace hardware store which is a worthwhile upgrade which won't break the bank since I only paid $16.40 & got the Super Saver Free Shipping. You can't beat this for the price. As per other reviews complaining about the handle getting hot, yes they will all get hot if left in place on a hot grill etc. for any length of time more than 5 minutes especially on bacon but I'm using mine specifically for pressing Cuban & Paganini style sandwiches so it doesn't get so hot since there's obviously a thicker medium which offers more insulation from the hot grill. At any rate it's just the nature of the beast, so if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen or at least use some common sense & get something in your hand before you grab it like a towel or pot holder, traditional or silicone, your choice... Take it from a worldwide professional sous chef of over 25 years!!! There is no glamor in being a chef, it's a damn hot & fast paced environment where you're going to cut & burn yourself repeatedly over the years no matter your skill level or knowledge base, it's only a matter of when the next time will be... I would have given this no stars but it won't let me. This non-stick griddle has more things stick to it than tape. It is simply the worst product I have purchased in a long time. I have this "non-Stick" griddle for just about a month and it is ready for the trash. The non-stick is coming up on the flat end and the griddle is worthless, it ripped my chicken cutlets to shreds. Don't buy it!!! If you read this and still buy it may you have three horrible meals like I did before it met the old trash can.

I like to grill steak, chops and chicken and have used a George Foreman grill exclusively before purchasing this grill. This piece is a nice alternative to the GF...particularly since it grills one side at a time.

The Good...because it sits atop your stove burners, you can adjust the heat setting (though this takes some practice)...which is something the bargain GF grills don't do and the more expensive GF grills do with only a small range of temps. Plus, if you span it across two burners, you can have one end set to a grilling temp and the other end set to a "keep warm" temp. No grill is easy to clean, but this one's easier than a GF type.

The Bad...though it has a non-stick coating, you should still use a non-sticking spray (Pam).

The Jury's still out...I wonder how long the non-stick surface will last with it being in direct contact with the carbon heating elements of an electric burner. Also, I doubt I would have used this for a gas burner as you'd have to closely monitor the flame to ensure it doesn't "suffocate" and you're left with a build-up of natural gas.
