In the past I have used a few forks and thermometers and they registered much faster. I have burnt my arm hair waiting almost a minute for the fork to get to 180* for chicken/pork. I feel even the price doesn't make it a worthwhile purchase

Lodge SCRAPERGPK Grill Pan Scraper, 2-Pack

Don't buy these for the Lodge Logic LPGI3 Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle. The spacing of the grooves don't fit the grill, rendering them useless. Gave this two stars because the material feels like it can withstand high heat.

Just used them when the grill/griddle was slightly hotter than warm...melted. Thus the review is now one star.

I've used cast iron for 35+ years and found these scrapers great to scrape away little crusty bits, esp. in the curves of a pan. Remember, no dishwashing liquid should touch a cast iron pan--just scrape and scrub with a stiff lodge brush, rinse and thoroughly dry. I then rub a little cooking oil on the inside, mopping up any excess with a paper towel.

I use these with a Lodge cast iron grill pan. The scrapers have two rows of scraping notches at different widths, presumably to accommodate the different pans in Lodge's product lineup. These are great for cleaning up grill pans without removing the seasoning just use them in the sink with hot water (no soap!) and soon your pans will be clean and ready for oiling. Before these I had been using those green scrubbing sponges which 1) didn't clean the pan very well, 2) sanded through the seasoning in some "hot spots", and 3) shredded the sponge in no time. These scrapers have no such issues. They're rigid but slightly flexible and comfortable to hold and use. And you can toss them into the dishwasher with impunity.

I would suggest one improvement: put a narrow "U" shaped notch on the back edge of the scraper to scrub off the top edges of the ribs on the pan. As it is, these scrapers are better for cleaning out gunk that's fallen into the valleys between the ribs. But not a big deal. I've had nothing but outstanding experiences with Lodge products. Nice to see that continue even with a little item like this.

Do not order this if you plan on using it with the Lodge Logic LPGI3. The notches on this scraper do not fit hte grooves in the grill side of the Lodge Logic LPGI3. That was specifically why I ordered this product and the product description does not mention this at all. Maybe it will work for others, but it did not work for me.

This package contains two identical scrapers. Each has two grooved sides of different spacing, and a rounded edge. These work well for cleaning the Lodge L8SGP3 grilling skillet, and can be tossed in the dishwasher afterward. Alternatives would be using a wadded up paper towel or a stiff brush. This tool gets a big start on the cleaning and then you might have to pick a few remnants off.

Inexpensive and useful. Give one to a friend!

Hot Dog Roller and Toaster

We liked this compact hot dog roller so much I bought one for my son too! Grills hot dogs in about 10 minutes depending on how you like them. Grills four dogs at a time. Has timer. The only thing that would make this better would be if the bun warmer was a steamer. Good value for the money compared to other home hot dog rollers--of which I found a very limited selection.

I purchased one for everyone in my family including myself and I love it...I find I do have to cook it quite a while to get the brownness I want... it is easy to clean up and it warms the bun not toasts it...they should call it a Hot dog roller and bun warmer... but I do love it and it is worth the money.

Awesome hotdogs! They taste just like what you get at the ballpark. George Foreman GR10WSP1 36-Inch Grill, White

As a diagnosed diabetic I finally caved in and got my first George Foreman grill to see if it could help with my meal planning. This model is tailor-made for single person useperfect for that bachelor pad or college dorm where space is a priority and you need to cook up something quick and easy. It comes with a plastic grease catcher, a plastic blunt tine spatula (which you might not need) and a cheap dual-sided scrubbing sponge.

It's small enough to fit on a corner of the counter or wherever you might want to place it, though the short power cord may inhibit your choice of location. I have a small place so mine sits on a corner of the kitchen table tapped into my universal power strip.

Like other GF grills there's no on/off switch, only an indicator light that lets you know both when the unit's properly heated to cook and when the food's done. Once plugged in it heats up pretty quicklyfive minutes or so. Teflon surface or nowhich I'm not a fan ofI suggest coating it with some cooking spray before putting the meat on. I've gone through turkey burgers, chicken breasts, tuna steaks, fish filletsyou name it; it all cooked up well-done without a hitch (if you're not into well-done you'll have to keep an eye on it). Depending upon whether you've marinated your meats or not, the grill doesn't get too messy but the grease catcher is always up to the task.

Cleaning up goes pretty easily, too. Your best bet is not to wait too long: unplug the unit, douse both surfaces with water after it's cooled off a little then scrub off the residue. The dual-sided sponge is pretty cheap and fell apart on me after too long so now I use a vegetable brush with a dab of liquid soap.

Overall, other than the short cord and cheap sponge I like my George. It does what it says, and definitely helps trim a lot of fat and oils out of my meals. Nice job.

I've had a several variations on the small George Foreman grills. I have literally worn most of them out, and they last when cared for! I use my GF a LOT. They are great when making a meal in the summer. It doesn't noticeably heat the room like the broiler in my oven and I think it uses much less power all year round. They are just the right size for one or two people.

I cooked steak, lamb, pork, chicken, salmon, tuna, cod, haddock, bluefish, trout, and a bunch of stuff that just isn't coming immediately to mind. It was all great. The biggest danger is over-cooking because it's so fast and cooks from both sides at once.

When cooking for one and there is space behind a steak or pork chop, I put slices of veggies like bell pepper and onions back there to cook with the steak. Behind the steak is a steamy spot on the grill and these veggies cook to perfection in the same time as the steak. Sometimes I rub them with olive oil for a nice taste.

The tilted design is great to get rid of grease and the hot plates sear the surface to seal in juices and flavor. With fish I like to use a very light coating of Mayo which seems to help make pink and white fish even more detectibly moist and tasty. With steak and meats the grill works great with rubs and spices. I really like the Paul Prudome "magic" line of spices. Yum! Even cooking a whole trout is great, albeit I needed to slice it in two at the ribs so it all fit at once. About 6 minutes between the plates and done to yummy perfection.

If you freeze steaks, a 6 oz 3/4" thick steak frozen solid and dropped on the hot plates will be done to medium in just about 10 minutes, in my experience steak cold out of the fridge of the same size/thickness is done to medium in about 5 to 6 minutes. The timing is just about second nature now.

The non-stick surface isn't perfect, though pretty good. Be careful with forks/knives and use a plastic spatula to remove fish as it has a greater tendency to stick than anything else.

Cleanup is oh so easy. While one must not put their little GF in the dishwasher or immerse it (I wish the plates were removable!) it's still pretty easy to clean.

First, just after the food comes off I give it a quick hot wipe with a paper towel to get the bulk off. Just takes a second to do this. After the meal I finish the clean-up by hanging the front of the GF over the sink and using a soapy wet sponge. I thoroughly wash the plates and clean the catch tray. Then I use the clean catch tray to rinse the plates of soap, then drain it and both air dry. Water all flows into the sink and it's really clean. It all takes a minute or two.

This white model is what I think of as the "classic" edition and I've owned and worn out 2 of this one. I think I can say it's my favorite!

This is a great tool. If it wasn't so great why would I keep buying them? :-) I even keep a spare on the shelf in case my current 4 year old one fails. I love my GF and its saved so much of my time while giving me great food to enjoy.

Update May 2013:

I've moved to a new GF Champ (the current one was bought 4 years ago) and the cooking times seem to be a little longer than my old one. Just a little reminder that while all the GF Champ variations are virtually identical (except for the plastic shell) there are small individual differences in how hot they get and cooking times may need small adjustments between units. I find the same thing is true in Microwave ovens. A small adjustment.

I still love my GF Champ and have given just about one of every champ model to friends or family members.

i never cook raw meat in it, but i use it to reheat and grill food, make panini sandwiches, spread butter and sprinkle extra sugar on store bought pastries and cookie-mmmmm-grill burritos, and reheat almost everything! Nostalgia Electrics MDM-600 Mini Orbital Donut Maker

I bought the nostaglia donut maker for my girls for christmas. The donuts were so tiny and they burned the bottom the middle back donut had to stay in longer or was doughy and the tops were too light and doughy if you took them out so bottoms didn't burn. I was not impressed. I looked up reviews on the Sunbeam and Bella Cucina and was going to get the Bella Cucina but ended up with the Sumbeam. So I did a cook off with the Sunbeam and Nostalgia. The Nostalgia still burned the doughnuts by the time they were not doughy. The Sunbeam did much better and we were very happy with them. The Sunbeam donuts are a little bigger (twice the size of the nostalgia ones) about 2 1/2 inch diameter, more even on the bottom in color but still a little lighter on the top but a much better donut maker on the whole. We will keep the Sunbeam one over the nostalgia donut maker. This is a fun activity to do with my girls. We tried a recipe online which is supposed to be from Bella Cucina which is 1 c flour, 1/2 csugar, 1Tbsp baking powder, 1 egg 1/2 c milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and 4 tbsp oil. We were very happy how they turned out will keep the Sunbeam and will try other recipes for fun.

The first experimental batch was burned on the bottom and white on the top after only 3 minutes. I've read that flipping the donuts half way through cooking time works best and there is now a donut maker that flips just like the flip waffle maker. So, after 1 minute and 30 seconds exactly, I flipped the entire machine on its lid. (Use a heat proof mat because the lid side is hot). Cook for an additional 1 minute and 30 seconds. Worked perfectly. They were brown on both sides. Use a pancake pen to fill the pan and fill all the way to the brim otherwise they will look flat like washers. The pancake pen allows you to fill rapidly which is important because the bottoms start cooking as soon as they are in the pan. They are 2 inches diameter when done, and 5/8 inch deep. I did not need to grease the pan with the basic recipe and the donuts did not stick. They pick up easily when done with a wooden skewer. If you are in a hurry, this works faster than an oven. If I want deeper donuts though, I will use the oven donut baking pans. The directions say to open with a pot holder, but the handle is not hot and is easy to hold for flipping. Use your own discretion for that. Total baking time 3 minutes. I only gave it 3 stars because the directions say 5-7 minutes and they do burn on the bottom if you don't flip it.

I bought this Nostalgia Mini Donut Maker at a local store at a deeply discounted price. I didn't even think to check the reviews on Amazon first because the price was so low. Who would have thought this donut maker would be so lowly rated?

I have to concur with all the reviews. This doesn't work very well. It does burn the donuts. I followed the directions of a fellow reviewer and baked the donuts for exactly 3 minutes and turned the whole machine over at a minute and a half to help a little bit. I used a muffin mix that comes in a pouch and that worked well but the donuts still tried to burn at just 3 minutes.

The size donuts were a nice size, similar to the powdered ones that come in the bag but I can't recommend it because the donut maker itself does not do a good job. There are other donut makers that get good reviews and I think I'm going to try the Sunbeam. I am returning this one to the store tomorrow after one use.

Holmes HAOF910-UC Blizzard Table Fan with Removable Grill

This fan is perfect for my bedroom. It is small enough, yet powerful and creates a strong current of air. It is sort of loud, but I actually like that because it covers up extraneous noises that may wake me while I am trying to sleep (like the tv from the living room or a barking dog in the neighborhood). I had a different Blizzard before this one that did not have the removable face and it was a pain to keep the dust out. This feature is a great bonus because now I can keep it clean! I would highly recommend this fan. My last one lasted for about 10 years before the motor started puttering.

Even though there was no image for this fan, we liked the floor Blizzard so much I ordered this one, anyway, because of the removable grill. This little fan can move air! Boy, can it move air; and it's going to be a fantastic tool to remove smoke from the house when the wood stove back-drafts this winter....and a wonder at drying herbs in the garden shed....BUT, this thing is so loud you have to shout over it even when it's on the low setting. It's like having a jet engine in the house! So, if you want to move air in a big way, I'd highly recommend it. But, if you want a fan for the bedroom for a nice little breeze while you sleep, keep looking.

They advertise this as a small table fan however, I would suggest that it's more suited for a larger space than a table unless you have a lot of room to spare. I have used a Holmes Blizzard table fan for several years to provide white noise at night. Some other reviews said these fans were now more quiet than the older ones, but I decided to try it again anyway when our old fan started acting up. Well, it is a bit more quiet than the previous fan but I'm still using it for white noise (I just use the highest setting) because I love how easily the grill removes for cleaning.

We love this fan. We use it in the bedroom window in the summer and it is the quietest one we have ever used. The remote control is a great feature. If we wake up in the night feeling too hot or cold, we can turn it on or off without getting up.

This fan is extremely quiet even at max speed when you compare it some of the other ones. The range is not that great, but if you have it within 4-5 feet from you bed for eg., it works wonderfully. The rotating grill circulates the air really well and it is remote controlled. Living in NYC I need to change the speed quite a few times, the remote control is very handy for that purpose.

I bought a slightly older model (HAPF622R) about 4 or 5 years ago which looks the same and has the same features as this one. I've been very happy with it. I works well on the floor or propped up in my bedroom window. It's very quiet and doesn't disturb my sleep. Still, I wish the 3 speeds were each a bit lower than they are. The highest setting is a little too noisy for sleeping. The remote control, timer and oscillating grill are very nice features. I don't use the variable "breeze mode" much because the noise level changes with changes in speed and I'd rather have it constant. All the features are operable from the remote control. It's nice not to have to get out of bed to adjust the fan during the night. Overall this is the best fan I've ever had and would definitely buy another one. Even after years of use it still runs quietly and well.

This is my second Blizzard Fan. The first one that I have had for a couple of years I gave to my neice who got a case of the hives, and this fan helps her to sleep cooler. We live in Houston TX, so you can understand. She also is a light sleeper so the perfect sleeping white noise this fan makes has helped her stay asleep. So, I bought myself a new one, and it works just as perfect. I like the looks of it and it is small and light. I really like the remote control. I read in bed before I turn the lamp out, so I don't like the blizzard blowing while I am reading. I like to turn the pages myself. So, when I am done reading, I just click the remote and the fan comes on. I don't have to get out of bed to turn it on. Sleepville, here I come. The only negatives are the very bright green led lights on the fan, there are several of them for the different controls, but I just covered them with black electrical tape so that problem solved. I also don't use the automatic turn off, because it makes a very loud beep when it turns off, and that wakes me up. So, I just leave it on all night.

This is a nice little sandwich maker. It's compartments are pretty small. You have to cut the crust off of your bread and cut it diagonally in order to fit the sandwich in the compartment. Also, you need to keep an eye on it, because the indicator light isn't realiable to let you know when the sandwich is done. I've had a couple of too cruchy edges on my sandwiches because of this. Otherwise, it makes a great sandwich! For the money it really is a pretty nice machine.

Love the fan, the only problem is when it is on low it has a low wining sound. This does not happen on the other speeds. This fan really puts out the air.

Weber 6515 Q Stainless Steel 2-Piece Tool Set

These tools are made to be stored underneath the fold out tables of your Weber Q grill. I ordered these along with my Q120 thinking it would be nice to keep them together when not in use. As it turns out, the newer Q models do not come with the bar that screws to the underside of the table, presumably where the tools are held in place by the indentations you can see in the picture. I contacted Weber to try to get this piece but I was unsuccessful. There are screw holes on the underside of the tables where the bar attaches, if I can't locate the bar I may have to try to make one out of some soft copper tubing.

Just like most Weber accessories and grills these utensils are quality made and seem like they will last for many camping trips to come.

The spatula worked well, the smaller size made it easier to maneuver smaller and crowded items around on the grill. The tongs are just a tad on the flimsly side. The bend a little too much, especially when trying to turn or rotate a big-a&& steak. 8 )

I got these tools because they matched perfectly with my Weber Q grill. They are attractive and functional tools, but are not perfect. The metal is a little thin, which allows flexing. Sometimes this can be a good thing. Depending on what I am grilling, the tongs are sometimes easier to use if they are bent open a little more to more easily grip thicker cuts of meat or larger items. Sometimes it helps if they are bent a little less open for smaller items.

They are definitely not the best grilling tools I've used, but they do a decent job and they look great with the Q.

Lodge A5-1 Charcoal Chimney Starter

My old chimney, same style, lasted for twenty years. I'm glad they haven't changed the style. It works.

The other reviewer pointed out some safety issues. These are valid for any chimney starter and are best solved by keeping in mind that there's a fire going in the chimney.

There are a few things I really like about this model. 1) Lots of ventilation to get oxygen to all of the coals, even when totally full. 2) You can easily lift it up and put new paper under it if your paper fizzles out (happened to me) and you need to restart. The small holes in the side also help you see what's going on as the heat rises. 3) Most important, it gets charcoal good and hot good and quick.

Now for what I don't like. 1) Lodge coated all of the metal surfaces, including the grill inside, with some kind of coating. I guess it's supposed to make it look like "nice" unfinished metal. Problem is, this coating isn't very heat resistant and quickly melts/evaporates, leaving odd streaks of exposed metal after just a couple uses. A better approach would have been to leave the metal alone. 2) Even a large charcoal briquette can slip through the grill in the bottom. Not sure how I'd fix this and keep the system well ventilated. 3) It only holds enough to cook a crowded meal for 2 on charcoal. Easiest way to solve this is buy 2 or more, depending on how much you plan to cook at a time. This seems to be the case for every starter I've seen. They're all basically the same size.

This charcoal chimney starter is effective and performs as described in the product description.

There are two flaws in the design that relate to safety:

1. The metal handle is exposed in the separation on the sides of the 2-piece wooden insulators. Conceivably, a bare hand could be burned when grasping the handle to dump out the prepared coals. Be sure to use an insulated glove or potholder.

2. The spacing of the outermost ring in the bottom grate sometimes allows a briquette to fall through and out of the chimney. This can occur when a briquette is oriented edge-wise down. A user typically has his/her attention on the open end of the chimney when pouring hot charcoal. A hot briquette could fall out unnoticed from the other end when tipping the unit. My personal experience is that a briquette fell out of the bottom when I dumped the coals into my grill. It landed on the plastic top of a patio table. I did not discover this until the table top had been partially melted and deformed.

This would be 5 stars if Lodge could have made a grate that didn't allow charcoal to fall through. I used a current name brand charcoal and tried to light three chimney's worth this weekend. About 10% of the bricks will fall through during the pouring in (annoying) or pouring out (dangerous). Why in the world would you not make the grate smaller? Unless I modify it myself, it is too annoying to use. Thanks, Lodge.

Wow, talk about an item that does exactly what it is supposed to do!
