I smoke many types of meat and use my smoker regularly. I need to have an accurate reading or the meat will not cook properly and turn out in an acceptable way. This thermometer is just the ticket. I've worked in restaurants for a major portion of my professional career and being able to calibrate your thermometers is crucial. I will advise everyone out there to NOT BUY A THERMOMETER THAT IS NOT ADJUSTABLE. You'll just be throwing your money away in the long run.

This has an easy to read, large gauge, and is color coded for even easier readings from a distance. Installation is easy and anyone should be able to do it. Many don't know how to calibrate a thermometer. Either boil some water and see if the gauge reads 212 degrees, or fill a glass or bowl with ice, add water to fill it, and then take a reading. It should read just barely above 32 degrees. Adjust and you're done.

The thermometer installed on my smoker was a piece of garbage, and even though I love the smoker, that part was cheap, as is on many outdoor grills and smokers. Save your money in the long run and get one of River Country's ADUSTABLE thermometers. You'll love it!

I was looking at some the remote thermometers, but it seemed like everyone was complaining how well they don't work. I needed something that would work year after year. The large face was the big seller for me as with the color coded sections for easy reading. It sure helps to know the real inside temperature instead of looking how my coals and wood are burning. I use it on my converted frig for smoking. The hardest part of installing it was using my dull drill bit to get hole going. This should help me to keep the temp down when I next attempt cold smoking some antelope ham.

I've tested it, and the thermometer is definitely accurate. The supplied mounting hardware is plenty sturdy, but one little caveatthe instructions say to drill a 3/8" hole, but it's closer to a 7/16" in order to fit the threads. I'm glad I had a step drill along with my usual bits, but once I got the size right it threaded right in. Overall, definitely recommend this to someone looking for a better thermometer for their smoker.

I am not sure what all the other reviewers are upset about. The product is exactly as described and I was able to get all items at my local grocery store. I received this as a gift and let me tell you I had no idea how much fun it would be. We use it on a regular basis (1 sterno lasts you forever) and love using it when we have family or friends over. They get a kick out of it and it brings back that campfire fun you used to have growing up(Quick hint: make sure you buy the thin chocolate bars and not those monster ones otherwise the chocolate doesn't melt well with the marshmellows). I have never received any complaints and if anything people have run out and bought their own. If you are scared about fuel availability look into it at your local grocery store, costco, catering store, or camp store. Otherwise, what are you waiting for there are many fun conversations to be had over this fun dessert.

I am a big s'more fan. I will eat them for breakfast when we are camping. When I saw this I bought it. It works great! I have got my money's worth. It is a big hit at get togethers, too. It's easy to operate. It will burn the marshmallow like a real campfire. So if you like burnt, it works good for that. The canned fuel does not come with it. So you need to purchase that separately. And watch the size of the can. The size they recommend is the size you need. You can find it in the camping section of stores such as Target, etc. I recommed this to anyone who loves s'mores! Well worth your money!!!!!!!!

A lot of people think that "one use" appliances are silly, and they may be right. But I personally love them.. I also think they make fun and unique gifts! This s'mores maker is one of my favorites.. simply because I've never made s'mores except when I was out camping and the Casa Moda s'mores maker makes it so easy to have s'mores all the time, in the comfort of my own living room.

Some reviewers commented that they couldn't find the fuel that it requires but I had no problems finding it at my grocery store. It's easy to use, easy to clean up and really fun. I was so excited when I received this product as a gift, and I was not disappointed when I used it. It is basically a pu pu platter like they use in chinese food restaurants with ceramic ramekins for the marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers and fondue forks to toast the marshmallows. It toasted the marshmallows just like a campfire would! I found the fuel (Sterno) at the supermarket, but you can get it at party supply stores also.

This was a Christmas gift, and I must say, it's great. Sure it's big and I have no where to keep it, but I don't care. The kids love it and the finished product is yummy...just like the campfire version, minus all the smoke ;) One word of caution, make sure the little ones don't lean across the flame to reach for something or let their long hair dangle into it. Very close supervision is required!! Also, because the flame is small and intense, your marshmallow can ignite very easily. I would recommend this product, though... Great for rainy/snowy days in the house. Have fun!

Norpro Nonstick Jumbo Roast Rack

We have used this style of rack on our charcoal and gas grills for over 25 years. We've tried others but always go back to this one. Great for whole chickens, cornish hens, any beef & pork roasts. With smaller meats there is even room to place potatoes around on it. The handles are easy to grab even with oven mitts on. And it sets securely on a cutting board to carry it into the house.

Unfortunately, the non-stick coating started flaking away as soon as we used it. After about two uses, the coating was not in good shape at all. We never put it in the dishwasher, and only used a soft sponge on it, but the non-stick coating just didn't stay attached.

The size and shape of this rack are great, and other than the coating, it's pretty sturdy. I'd be willing to go with a similar model that doesn't have the coating ... but this one is going back.

Not recommended.

This is a sturdy rack with larger gauge metal then many similar racks. It's fairly heavy duty. But the non-stick coating started coming off with the first hand washing. I may just strip it and season this like a piece of cast iron.

I bought this rack just before Thanksgiving to use with the Baker's Secret Rectangular Roaster Pan I bought at the same time, and I am equally delighted by both!

Charcoal Companion Silver Chimney Charcoal Starter

This starter does precisely what it is intended to do. It starts coals quicker and easier than the conventional method. Nothing more, nothing less.

After twenty-five uses, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. But I am a little concerned about durability. One concern is that it is starting to rust. I keep it outdoors but it is not exposed to the elements. I don't know if this is common with charcoal starters, but I don't expect to get another season out of it as the rust is progressing rapidly.

Another concern is with the handle. While it was tight and secure for the first dozen uses or so, It has now loosened up. The rivets seem secure, but the handle wobbles. Not a good feeling when you are handling hot coals.

The heat shield and wooden handle effectively work together so that you could use your bare hand, but I still recommend using a high quality glove or mitten as the supports on the handle get very hot.

Overall, it's not a bad starter, but it does have a couple of issues that would prevent me from buying another one. If you have the money, consider spending a little more for a starter from a better known company. Otherwise, expect to get about a season of use out of this one.

For the first few months, it works fine. Does what it claims it will do...at first. Ihad this when I was in the army, grilling all the time. Thought I'd save some money, a chimney is a chimney after all. Well I was wrong, it fell apart on me after a few months of repeated use. The handle dislodged and the entire chimney became unusable. Spend the extra few dollars and buy the Weber, I've had it almost two years now and it is still usable, and in great condition.

This was my first chimney starter. As others have noted it works fine for the first few uses... then the aluminum pop rivets holding the handle and holding the sides together melted! If this would have happened while pouring coals it could have been a disaster! I made a repair using 10-32 stainless screws, then gave it away and bought the Weber. The Weber is much more robust in construction. The additional bail handle is nice to aid in pouring the hot coals and the silicone handle holds up to weather and heat. Get the WEBER 7416 or the larger 87886!

This is a good thermometer, but read the directions and calibrate it before you install it. I bought a Big Green Egg that had been used one time as a "demonstrator." I could never seem to really get the temperature "up" on it, so I figured it must be the thermometer, and I got this one to replace it. In the end, I'm thinking (like I did when I got this new thermometer) that the people who set-up my Big Green Egg simply installed it without calibrating it. READ THE DIRECTIONS. They're small, and they're on the little piece of paper that's inside the plastic case and covers the thermometer. It looks like it could be something, like the plastic case, to throw away as soon as you open it, so check-it-out. After reading the directions, calibrating and installing this new thermometer on my Big Green Egg, I went to the trash can and got my original thermometer. I'm keeping it as a back-up, thinking it was good all along, but had just never been calibrated. Like I said, until I happened to notice the directions that came with this new thermometer, I never would have thought you had calibrate it before installing it.

To paint is easy, to cut is where you will have to spend more time. I start with a hobby knive, almost kill myself, then switch to a scissor, man, cutting that body is not an easy task, then I use a dremel and that's when things started to look better. Its a job that you wont get in a hour, that's if you want to do it right. Once installed, the car looks beautiful, my kid ask for lights for the headlight and under the car, that took me some more time but it was fun.

Weber 6491 Original Folding Pocket Thermometer

Pretty nice little unit that does what it says on the box.

As with any Weber product, you're paying a premium for the badge. That said, it works as expected and is backed with the usual Weber assurance of quality. The unit does feel a little plasticky (?) but seems sturdy enough.

It has the pleasant surprise of an integrated backlight (15 seconds before it shuts off) and you can 'pause' the reading (for example if you want to write it down) from changing/turning off for 30 seconds.

The major downside is that you're recommended to wait 15 seconds for the probe to stabilise on temperature. Not exactly an 'instant read' thermometer, but hopefully it has the accuracy to justify it.

Despite another reviewer's claims on the US Amazon site, this DOES come with a battery. It's tucked into a baggie with the instruction manual. That said, if you don't have a coin to open the back of the unit, you're screwed! :-)

All in all, a product worth considering if you too are looking for a digital thermometer you can put in your pocket without stabbing yourself in the leg...

Fire Sense Hotspot Notebook Portable Grill

The Good:

I bought this grill for this summers motorcycle camping adventures. I can't think of a better use for this grill. Narrower main body section gives many options for tying down, and on my bike (a shadow 750) the bottom "foot hole" was able to go over and around my sissy bar and sit on my rack. Pretty sweet. 2 up camping now comes with a BBQ!

The Bad (at least for motorcycle camping):

It is a bit flimsy (but quite stable when open for grilling). With care, I am expecting to get about 50 or so BBQs out of it. After it falls apart I am planning to go to a metal shop in town and have it re-fabricated in some heaver gauge steel. I would be willing to have a little heaver (and smaller) grill for motorcycle camping if it was durable. The grilling surface is large. Expect to need about 3 pounds of charcoal to get it going well, 6 pounds (an entire small bag) of charcoal for a full grill to feed 4+ people. This makes it a requirement to setup camp, and then ride out to get groceries and charcoal. Messy.

I've BBQ'd for years and have to say the "action" on this grill is quite good. If you really have a need for an extremely portable grill, I would definitely recommend it. If you are just looking for a smaller grill for car camping or porch cookouts I would recommend the more traditional Coleman and Weber portable grills with a lid and better durability.

I had been wanting a foldable grill and didn't even know they existed until I came across this one on Amazon. It not only saves TONS of space on my small patio but it delivers in quality of food too! I've had a few bbq's with this grill so far and the quality of food has been phenominal. I find the easiest thing to do is to buy one of those small charcoal bags that all you do is light it no need to open the bag. It fits perfectly in this grill. The cleanup is very easy and not messy at all. And I absolutely love that it folds up to be about 1/2" wide. It takes up no room at all on my patio. I gave up my Weber big grill for this one great decision!!! I highly recommend this grill as it is great for serving about 6 good sized burgers and about 4 hot dogs on the grill at the same time. When I had it delivered at my job a couple of co-workers had me open it and display it for them. Then after that weekend of testing it out, I reported the good news to them and they bought it too. If you're looking for a small portable, durable, inexpensive, & reliable grill -get this one!!!

It's an OK grill. Can't be moved with ease once lit. It's good for trips to the park with the way it folds up when not in use. I DON'T like the holes in the bottom because the coal dust falls out and this item cannot be put on say something (grass) that can go on fire. With the hole in the bottom there should be some sort of tray to catch the burned out coals that fall. I'm somewhat disapointed.

I bought this grill because I have a small RV camper with limited space. The grill worked great except the grill is on very top with no sides so hot dogs can easily roll off. Also after one use, the paint peeled off and looks terrible. Seems like they could have used heat resistant paint like other grills. Once nice thing is after you finish cooking, you can throw in a couple of small pieces of wood and have a small camp fire. It is made of very thin material so it cools off fast once you dump out the coals so you can pack it up for travel. It would be nice to have a carrying case as it is nearly impossible to put back in the box. Other than that is exactly what I have been looking for for years.

The fuel grill is perfect that when the fuel is burnt, the ashes fall through to the bottom of the grill and with a poker (wood stick), you can remove it.

Also from that same access hole (on both ends), it allows air to enter and help on maintaining the burn of the fuel.
