BODUM Fyrkat Barbeque and Grill Tongs

Bodum Fyrkat Barbeque and Grill Tongs, OrangeI needed a pair of tongs and I have several of the other Bodum grilling tools (all great!!) so I ordered these. I'm somewhat disappointed in their functionality as they barely open. The neutral (unsqueezed) position is about 3/4 to half an inch open, and then you can squeeze them all the way shut from there. But they do not open any wider, which makes them kind of useless for a lot of applications.

The Fyrkat tongs look & work great, we've had them over a year & are quite content. Admittedly, it took us 2 grilling sessions to realize we hadn't opened them properly -once you pull the release, they open wide to get a nice grab! The mechanism to keep them in a closed position helps keep them storage friendlyno opening in the drawer.

4.5 stars. It's a good, long one with good reach and well made. Has a nice, comfortable handle. Only thing, the teeth/grip could be more aggressive but other than that this is almost a perfect set of barbecue tongs. I've looked at a lot of them. This is one of the better ones here among the large variety.

The Simpsons Homer Be The Character Apron

The Simpsons Homer Be The Character ApronSuper cute and he loved it! My only complaint is the neck strap is a little long but overall great!

Homero's neck too far from person's neck so it just too far from the user's neck. It would be more funny if it was better done.

The apron was very smelly when we first received it. After washing it, it still looked great and smelled much better!

George Foreman GFP84GP Evolve Grill 84-Square Inch Shallow Griddle Accessory Pan

George Foreman GFP84GP Evolve Grill 84-Square Inch Shallow Griddle Accessory PanI got this for model number GRP92R, which is not listed as a fit in the description. I got out the tape measure and since it was the exact size of my grill's plates, I took the chance and ordered it and it's an exact fit. I'm tell this because some like me, may over look this because your model number is not listed as a fit. Also, you can order this directly from the George Forman website for half the price. This will turn my GF grill into a mini griddle where you can fry things like eggs and bacon that is awkward with the factory plates. Also pancakes, omelets and the such.

I bought this product because our other George Foreman needed to be replaced. I found this product on line and thought I should give it a try. To my surprise--we use this little kitchen marvel a lot! I love the waffel grill plates.

Its fast becoming our Sunday treat!

It is easy to clean and takes up very little storage space in our apartment.

I took a chance and ordered this for the new GRP2148R grill, George Foreman GRP2841R 5-Serving Removable Plate Grill with Variable Temperature and it fits perfectly! Ideal for fish filets and other things a flat grill works best for. This means other 84 square inch grill plates such as the deep one and the cupcake insert MAY also fit. As far as I know, only the bottom grill plate is 'optionable', the slightly larger crosshatch pattern top plate is the only top plate option.

Bodum Electric Indoor Table Grill and Griddle

Bodum Electric Indoor Table Grill and Griddle, RedThe distinguishing feature of this unit, the Bodum Bistro 11133 electric table grill, is that the big plate that heats up is smooth on one side and "ribbed" on the other. The smooth, or griddle, side is for items such as eggs and pancakes and hash browns, whereas the the ribbed, or grill, side is for, say, burgers or steaks or chops, where you want to sear in those pretty and ever-flavorful grill marks that result from the ever-wonderful Maillard Reaction. You choose which side to use by simply flipping the plate over. It's designed so you can't flip it without unplugging the controller. Also, there's a simple mechanical device that prevents you from using the device unless the drip tray is installed.

Both sides of the plate are covered in a non-stick coating, and both sides measure 14-5/8 inches by 9-1/8 inches, or 133.45 square inches, which is on the small side if you're cooking for six. A similar product I own, made by Presto, measures 14-1/4 by 18-3/4, or 267.19 square inches, or, as near as matters, 100% bigger.

The outside dimensions of the Bodum 11133 are 20 inches by 12-5/16 by 3-1/8. The housing sports four rubber feet that have a gratifyingly high coefficient of friction relative to Formica. The grill plate is substantial, weighing in at 5 pounds 11 ounces when you add in the weight of the handles and their hardware. Those handles do a fine job; even when the plate is at its highest heat the handles are room-temp to the touch.

The two-sided grill plate itself is dishwasher safe, but the drip tray, which of course got gunky after I fried bacon and skinned the grill, according to the instructions "must be washed by hand." It's a stamped sheet of what I'm guessing is aluminum, and I can't quite figure out what would happen if you put it in the dishwasher anyway.

The package comes with a scraper which you use to scrape detritus to the far left side (there's noplace else to scrape to) and into 14 drain holes that drop grease and crud onto the drip tray. Those 14 drain holes are quite small, approximately 1/8 inch by 1/4 inch, and they can clog up easily, which I think is a design defect. The scraper can be used to poke ino the drain holes to unclog them, but it's tedious.

That nylon, non-heat-proof scraper is also designed in such a way that it is impossible, when you're using the grill side of the plate, to scrape up against the near and far edges, which are the two long ones. You can see what I mean by finding the photograph I added to this product's description on Amazon that shows the scraper in position as far left as it will go. Again, I think this is a design defect. On the griddle side of the plate the other side of the scraper, which is straight, does get right up against the edges.

The instruction manual is light on details, such as almost all of the ones I provided above. Except for knowing you can put the plate in the dishwasher and that you can't put the drip tray therein (which seems backwards to me), the manual contains no information you need.

Oddly, nowhere does it say not to use metal tools on the two non-stick surfaces. I don't know about you, but I'm not about to start skinning a non-stick grill with a sharp steel scraper even if the manual doesn't warn me not to. If the coating really is designed to be impervious to the sort of scraping a cast-iron griddle can tolerate for decades then I'm surprised the manufacturer doesn't brag on that remarkable fact. If it is not designed to abide such rough treatment I'm surprised the manual doesn't admit it and warn against it.

And it's not like the manual fails to warn against the obvious. For instance, it does warn against using the grill to light charcoal, and elsewhere it does say, "You will achieve the best results if you use meat of . . . good quality." That's like saying, "You will enjoy your three-week cruise more if you choose a luxury ocean liner and not a rowboat" or "You will achieve the best results if you choose a surgeon for your appendectomy and not a seamstress."

Here's the most disappointing feature of this particular example of an electric griddle. At one point the manual says, "Set the desired temperature." That's all it says. You might think it would say, "Set the temperature to 375 for pancakes" or "Set the temperature to medium for scrambled eggs" or "Set the temperature to 9 for searing a Kobe steak." But there's a reason the manual does not get that specific about temperatures. The reason is that that dial you turn to set the temperature has no useful marks on it. There is only a semi-circular swoosh like the Nike swoosh that tapers from skinny near where it says "OFF" to wide for the highest setting.

I don't understand this design decision.

The Presto griddle I mentioned shows actual numerical temperatures in degrees on the dial, from Warm and then 200 through 400 in 50-degree increments, including the ever-popular 350. A similar type of product I own, a GE electric skillet (higher sides, no drainage, and a lid), shows on its dial Warm, Simmer and then 300 through 450 degrees, also in 50-degree increments.

And even if those two products' temperature numbers are inaccurate, at least they can be used as a substitute for the numbers 1 through 9 that we're used to on stoves. But a swoosh is almost completely useless, especially when there are no obvious noon or three-o'clock or six-o'clock or 9-o'clock positions. If you have learned through experimentation (you do experiment when you're cooking, don't you?) that slider-sized hamburgers should be cooked at 400, or even if all you know is that they should be cooked at number 7, you can use that information to dial in that temperature every time. But with a swoosh you have to guess every time. Take a look at the photograph I took, on the Amazon page desribing the product, to see what I mean.

As a service to anyone who buys this product, as well as a service to me henceforth, I conducted some tests at two temperature settings, the minimum and the maximum. For the minimum I set the dial to the skinniest end of the swoosh, as shown in that photo. For the maximum obviously I cranked it all the way up. In both cases the room temperature was around 71 degrees Fahrenheit. All I did was record the temperature of the surface of the griddle at one-minute intervals, using an infrared thermometer. I also recorded when the indicator light turned off (meaning the thermostat thought it had risen above the right temperature) and back on (meaning the thermostat thought it had dropped below the right temperature).

Set at the minimum, the recorded temperature rose from room temp of 72.1 degrees to 170 degrees in one minute. The light went off 30 seconds later, at a temperature of 175. The griddle's plate's temp rose to 190 at 2:00 and peaked at 203 at 3:00. Thereafter it dropped at a slightly falling rate of 92 degrees in 21 minutes, or approximately 4.38 degrees per minute, till it dropped to 109 at the 24th minute. At 24:30 the thermostat finally turned back on, and the temp had risen to 130 by 25:00. This is a temperature range from 203 to 109, or 94 degrees, before the thermostat kicks back on again.

Set to the maximum, the recorded temperatures rose from 70 to 96 in 30 seconds, reached a maximum of 515 by 7:00, and ended up at 379 degrees at 31:00. Here is a table showing certain temperatures over that period of 31 minutes:

MIN:SEC --TEMP

I don't expect you to analyze all these data, so let me do it for you.

Set at its maximum heat, the griddle rises from room temp to 515 degrees Fahrenheit within 8 minutes but never gets anywhere close after that initial peak. The maximum temp it reaches thereafter is 440 degrees at around 11:30, and thereafter it bounces from a one-time high of 430 degrees down to a low of 375. The average temp at this maximum setting hovers roughly at 400 degrees.

And remember that all these temp data were measured with no food on the grill. Obviously if you slap a slab of 50-degree or even 70-degree hash browns on that grill, the temp is going to decrease considerably. When you drop a couple of room-temp T-bones on it, as I did tonight, I can tell you that the temp drops too much; the sizzle that indicates searing went away too soon, and it was worse when I did the first flip. Next time I'll preheat for 8 minutes (the manual says 4 to 6) before dropping the meat, because that appears to be when it's the hottest it will ever be.

This Bodum Bistro 11133 electric grill is sturdily built, and it does offer both griddle and grill. But it falls down in most areas compared to my Presto.

If you have twice as much acreage you can cook more food, obviously, but you can also more easily flip your burgers or your wursts or your emu breasts onto a fresh sector of the grill, which will be hotter. The Presto and similar products let you skin the grill by simply sweeping the cruddy grease towards you and into a moat below the near edge; the Bodum forces you to sweep crud into little, hard-to-clean holes. The Presto, and pretty much every other such product, I'd guess, have numbers on the dial instead of a featureless swoosh; one option if you buy this product is to go ahead and make four or five marks on the Bodum's dial yourself, maybe with a china marker or a silver Sharpie or a carefully wielded bayonet.

The Presto, which I got a couple years back, cost about $30. The only significant advantage the Bodum 11133 offers is the grill on the other side of the griddle, and even then you can't have both at the same time, which you can if you substitute for the grill side a product such as a grill pan that you simply heat up on the stove, and which you can also put in the oven. (I've found the Calphalon 12-inch grill pan Calphalon Professional Nonstick 12-Inch Round Grill Pan satisfactory.)

And you can buy several Prestos for the price of one of these Bodums.

This was a tough review to write. On the one hand, my Mom LOVED this grill. On the other hand, it is WAY over priced for what you get, at retail, or even with Amazon's discount.

The idea is great: an indoor grill that has a griddle on one side and a traditional grooved grill on the other. And, it is incredibly easy to switch between the two plates. You quite literally lift and flip (see my pictures). The grill plate cannot be flipped while plugged in, which decreases the chance of trying to flip while it's still hot. And, it was easy to clean, by hand, and in the dishwasher we tried both. The non-stick surface is exactly that, and while a larger surface would have been nice, this also fits comfortably on a countertop without taking up too much room. It's not too heavy either, so it can be moved around with ease. Plus, it comes in several colors to go with most any kitchen.

We tried several foods on this. My mom grilled T-Bones, Mahi Mahi, scallops and even did an entire London Broil on it. For size comparison, it will hold two large T-Bones, or 4 medium sized New York Strips. The steaks got a very nice sear, with grill marks, and were easy to come to the desired wellness using some common cooking times, such as you would for a frying pan (a medium thick steak needs about 3 minutes on high heat, per side, for medium). We cooked all these foods on the maximum setting. My mom seared the London Broil and used a temperature probe to check doneness as she would have done in the oven also, despite knowing what temp the oven is at! We had no problem with the grill holding heat. This would be an ideal appliance for a couple with a small kitchen another cook top, that doesn't heat up a room the way an oven can.

Despite how great it cooked for us, $200 (or even $140) is outrageously expensive, especially considering it has a couple basic flaws. The temperature dial has no numbers. This is an issue if you need to cook something slowly at a low temperature. This wasn't a big negative for us, but for the price it's unacceptable. Some foods are best prepared at a particular setting (like 350 for pancakes), and there's no way to tell with this. Another problem, the entire thing can go into the dishwasher EXCEPT for the drip tray the item most likely to get the messiest? Finally, Wolfgang Puck has a very similar product, Wolfgang Puck WPRGG0010 1800-Watt Reversible Nonstick Grill and Griddle, that is $50 cheaper, has numbers on the temperature dial and is from a better-known brand.

Overall, this was very useful, and we will definitely use it a lot. I would not hesitate to recommend it if it were less than $100, but I can't recommend it for $140. Those who are tempted might want to try the Wolfgang model at the lower price point.

**UPDATE** We've had the grill quite a while now, and have realized that it really is an awesome appliance that we WOULD pay $140 for! We use it 2-3 times a week, every week. Everything from hotdogs to steaks to fish to pankackes comes out wonderful. Though I still wish the dial had temperatures listed, I would still not hesitate to buy this again.

Buy Bodum Electric Indoor Table Grill and Griddle Now

I got this and thought, "Oh, cool, one appliance for two jobs, and should be easy to clean up instead." Ok, it does the job of two appliances semi-ok, but the cleanup is iffy and you need to pay attention to what you're thinking about cooking on it. Though the description emphasizes cooking right at the table, I wouldn't advise it unless you're going to cook something that is splatter free. I wouldn't try the suggested bacon, except in the case where you want everyone at the table coated in grease droplets. Pancakes, eggs, veggies, and anything that doesn't normally send hot oil particles flying are ok. Cooking up some ground beef, sausages, bacon, and the like, is not so good an idea due to their fat content. Even the manual points out that you should be using "quality meat" with this grill.

While you might be thinking, "I can just turn the heat down and it will be ok," let me warn you, there is no temperature guide on this thing. The temperature control dial doesn't use temperatures or numbers to indicate the temperature setting. Instead, it has a sloped graphic which is fairly useless. You get to guess how hot the grill will get based on where along the slope you set the dial. To add insult to injury, the temperature of the grill itself isn't very stable, varying up to 20 degrees, (I used a thermometer to check this out). Maybe I'm just too used to cooking with gas and forgot this is how cooking with electric is?

And now for the cleanup. If you've opted to cook up something greasy or something has gotten stuck to the non-stick surface, (marinade, cheese, charred meat, etc), the included scraper doesn't do so well for cleaning up the grill side. The grooved end of the scraper doesn't properly fit the grooves in the grill top. Luckily, the whole top can go in the sink for a good soak, and then into the dish washer. The grease catching pan on the bottom is hand wash only for some reason, contrary to the words of some of the other reviewers, (page 7 of the manual, last paragraph).

After cooking up several meals on this item, I have to admit it's useful, even if it is a pain here and there. All said and done, I think it's pricey for what it is and how it performs. Other models offer the same or more features and at a much better price.

In the past, I've used stovetop griddles and even some electric griddles. The Bodum Electric Grill and Griddle puts all of these to shame. I love this piece of cookware and would repurchase immediately if something we're to happen to this one.

PROS:

First, the unit itself comes in four pieces: the stand, drip tray, griddle/grill, and electric adapter.

* Stand-the stand is extremely sturdy. A big plus for me is that it has a rubber coated base which actually doesn't slip...at all. It also is easy to clean up with a kitchen wipe or damp paper towel.

* Drip TrayThe drip tray is probably less than 1/4", but unlike most griddles it covers the entire area of the griddle. I've cooked large breakfasts with lots of bacon and have never even come close to filling it. After emptying the contents you can throw it in the dishwasher...definite plus.

* Griddle/Grillconstructed of heavy non-stick aluminum, I'm expecting this to hold up for many years. I've cooked sandwiches, pancakes, burgers, veggies, pancakes, etc at various temperature settings without any problem. Low settings are awesome for keeping food warm until meal time, and medium/higher settings can cook a 1/2" burger in minutes. There may be a slight heat variation between the longest sides, but it's so minimal that it's barely noticeable (I was being especially critical when looking at this since it's been my biggest complaint with other electric griddles. This Bodum Griddle offers the most even cooking that I've seen thus far). I really appreciate the ingenuity of the grill on one side of the plate and the griddle on the other...it's one less thing I have to find space for. Also, the handles are extremely heat-resistant.

My only Con, and it's not even that big of a deal is the cord is pretty short. I think it would be difficult to actually use the griddle at the dining room table as advertised. It's probably 4' long. Also, the temperature is set by a typical dial knob.

All in all, I love this griddle/grill.

Want Bodum Electric Indoor Table Grill and Griddle Discount?

This is a fantastic table top grill from Bodum. The grilling surface is quite large and the cooking surface is dishwasher safe ( I wash mine by hand though). I didn't grill any thick steaks or hotdogs on it, as I have a Char Broil Infrared Gas grill outdoor, but I did use this to do Korean BBQ, which consists of a bunch of marinated meats that you sit around a table with friends and family and grill and eat ( Do a google search for Korean BBQ if you need a visual image). I don't think steaks would be a problem on this grill as long as you aren't expecting the same kind of quality from a gas/charcoal grill.

I cooked marinated rib-eye sliced thinly on it, as well as squid, tripe, chicken thighs and shrimp. All came out well and cooked with no problems. I did it outdoors cause the food was smokey from all the marinade burning off. The dial doesn't tell you the exact temp, but the style of food I cooked needed to be on high heat so I just turned it all the way up.

Clean up was ok, but took a little more elbow grease to get clean. While the surface was hot, I used the included scraper to scrape off the burned on sauces, and then washed it by hand and scrubbed off the grill plate with a non scratch scrubber.

I would recommend this grill if you are looking for an indoor grill. I also used it to cook pancakes and eggs with great success. My main fun with using this is Korean BBQ, so this suited my purpose quite well.

This grill does make cooking and eating with friends more fun if you are cooking the right type and style of food. I recommend this grill.

HA SH R-530EK METALLIC BLACK 1 (Sharp R530EK) (MICOVEN R530EK)

HA SH R-530EK METALLIC BLACK 1Our Sharp Carousel microwave finally died after 18 years of faithful service. Even the light bulb lasted 18 years. It was heavy and reliable; an awesome appliance....Naturally, I planned to replace it with another Carousel. The reviews were not spectacular. Poorly designed touch-pad, plastic latch mechanism, etc. Unfortunately, other manufacturers seemed to be as bad or worse. I needed a microwave and couldn't find anything better, so I ordered a Sharp R-530E (R-530 EKT according to the label). That's the very large, 1200 watt oven in gleaming black with a 16 inch turntable. Now that I've used it for a couple of weeks, I'm ready to offer my appraisal.

The Good:

Good price. Hard to believe how inexpensive these are.

Awesome size. This bad boy can accept your largest dishware and has a substantial glass turntable.

Good power. A large cup of water will be piping-hot in 2 minutes. Re-heating a large casserole dish of leftovers is quick and reasonably even, but is likely to make a mess unless covered.

Unit looks great. The gleaming black is unobtrusive and looks great on our dark granite counter. The digital readout is OK and the clock is easy to set, although it lacks a 12/24 hour choice. Odd since it offers foreign language choices.

The Bad:

Flimsy plastic latch mechanism. My previous unit had plastic latch hooks, but they were substantial. If you barely brush against these, they WILL snap off. Much worse than I expected.

Ridiculous touch-pad. The ON, OFF, and MINUTE PLUS are hard to find and way too small. The pad is cluttered with lots of choices you probably will never use.

A lightweight. Although some electronic components have gotten lighter, the light weight of this unit is perhaps indicative of the overall move to cheaper components. I don't expect it to last.

No turntable disable or 30 second quick heat buttons.

No easy access to change the light bulb. When mine fails, I will rewire it with a LED, assuming I haven't already thrown it away because the cheap plastic latches snapped off.

Bottom line: Looks good, great size, good price, works adequately, but probably won't last. What were they thinking with those cheap plastic latches ready to snap off? Did any of those engineers use that horrible touchpad before they put it into production?

I'm looking at buying the 4th one of these in 5 years. Why the same model every time? The space was custom built for it & so far haven't been able to find another that fits as well. First one had to be repaired after a month as the door refused to open, ultimately that one burned out after cooking microwave popcorn for the lowest amount of time listed on the package. (Everything cooks in lower range of recipe recommended times or less have never dared to try any higher time amounts.) 2nd one came & door would not open at all bravo Amazon they replaced it quickly. 3rd one has worked for 18 months door is starting to fail it will still open if you pull up on the handle while pushing the button, but it's only a matter of time...

We had a Sharp convection microwave combo prior to this one and loved it. Didn't use the convection part that often but the Sharp was always dependable and works well. This new one is no disappointment. I like the defrost program it works well compared to previous microwaves we have had. With anything you learn to use it based on your preferences but the Sharp brand has been dependable and the power and 2.2 cu is great.

I would not hesitate to recommend this microwave to someone.

The microwave works excellent. The only problem is the door does not open properly all the time. When you push the large button to open the door sometimes it works fine and other times it does not release and open. You must repeatedly push the button hard! It is going to be a real pain to correct and I believe it will eventually break due to all the hard pushing.

Ronco 3000 Series Rotisserie-White

Ronco 3000 Series Rotisserie-WhiteThis makes the juiciest chicken I've ever tasted. Racking the chicken onto the spit is as easy as it looks on TV. The same goes for removing it when done. Clean up is a snap. There's plenty of room for a plump chicken or a couple of Cornish hens. I haven't tried a turkey yet, but I roasted veggies in the spinning basket. Delicious!

I love the pause feature that allows me to stop the spit from turning so that I can add crispiness to any part of the bird. The pan in the bottom collects the juices. I make soup with it later.

It comes with everything too gloves, video, chicken ties, basket with lid.

This is one of those purchases that makes me want to tell everybody what a great deal I got. I'd give this product ten stars if I could.

***UPDATE...Jan 2, 2012, this thing stills works great.

In 1998 or maybe 99 my husband who loves commercials convinced me, the skeptic, to purchase a Ronco Rotisserie. Now, 10 years later and several moves in which it was dropped and glued together again, it is finally falling apart to an unusuable extent and so I am replacing it with a younger sexier model. It has been my favorite form of food preparation, especially in the summer when I don't want any extra heat produced in the house. The food is wonderfully moist without brining which is especially important in our household now. I can't praise this product enough. And this praise is from a skeptic. Tonight we had Salmon cooked in the basket. Yum. Last night we had a half Turkey breast. More yum. My only complaint is that it doesn't weather continual dropping very well.

Buy Ronco 3000 Series Rotisserie-White Now

I purchased this for my dad and after a few uses, the paint on the gear wheels began to flake off onto the food. He called Ronco and they claimed they did not receive his warranty information that he had mailed 3 weeks earlier, and therefore could not help him. I called Customer Service myself and was told the same thing no warranty information so no help. I was told to call their Corporate Office which I did. The line was busy for days. I emailed Ronco and received an automatic reply that said I would be contacted regarding my email in 24 to 48 hours. I received a reply email ONE MONTH LATER! The problem is still not resolved....

The rotisserie works well and if you follow the directions carefully, the end results will be delicious. Just understand that once purchased, you can't depend on any customer service at Ronco. They don't answer emails. They don't answer the phone. If you order an accessory, it may never arrive and you won't be able to find out why. If you want an extended warranty, buy the one offered through Amazon.

I'm incredibly disappointed with Ronco's customer service. I spent a bunch of money to have the oven sent next-day hoping to use it tonight to make dinner. Unfortunately I opened the box to find the heat reflector was missing. I called customer service thinking they'd send it out asap. Nope. First of all, customer service has been outsourced to India, and I was on hold waiting to speak to someone for 10 mins. And second, the guy didn't understand what I was saying. Finally, when he figured out that I was trying to tell him the heat reflector was missing, the very unapologetic man told me I had to register the thing online and then fax my request for the missing part, along with a copy of my receipt, to somewhere in California. I told him it was ridiculous, and he told me that was company policy. I think Ronco should refund my next-day shipping fees, and send the missing part out using next-day service as well. Apparently it's impossible to speak with any sort of competent customer service rep in the States. All I can do is fax or leave a message. I wish I would've known Ronco's customer service was this unprofessional before I bought the oven.

Man Law 5-Piece BBQ Wood Handle Tool Set

Man Law 5-Piece BBQ Wood Handle Tool SetThese are some man-size, heavy-duty grill tools. So big that I'm still trying to figure out how and where to store them. My husband liked them as his father's day gift. Contrary to my expectations, he thought the basting brush was useless and would have preferred a grill brush (grill cleaning brush). On the other hand, he was very satisfied with the tongs--he opined that locking tongs are for sissies and amateurs. Sigh. Men! Who can figure them out.

I was fairly disappointed by the dirty (dusty, gritty), shopworn (torn, crumpled, dented) product packaging. The tools were secured to their cardboard package with twist ties, and several of these were missing. I guessed that the package had been purchased before, not only because of the missing ties but because the package was taped together with packing tape.

To compound the problem, the outer amazon box had been poorly packed. The tools came in a far-too-big box with just a few folds of brown paper as cushioning. I have received other, much less expensive items from Amazon (health bars or face cream) packed quite securely with long loops of inflated bags as cushioning. It was weird to receive these heavy items sliding around in a big box. It made the box hard to handle and may have been at least part of the reason why the packaging looked so beat up. The tools themselves were not damaged. I wouldn't have cared quite as much if the purchase hadn't been intended as a gift. :-/

GrillPro 41442 Double Chicken Roaster

GrillPro 41442 Double Chicken RoasterThis was a great device. I have only used it once. It set up easy. Cans are enclosed in the middle so there is no chance of them falling over. Drip pan is a nice feature. Used drippings to make gravy. I have used 2 other styles that were not as nice. Clean up was a snap. I was lazy so I just through it into the dishwasher. It all came clean, and storage is fantastic too. All folds up flat, which is a bonus because so many others are bulky.

We have had a single rack for a little over a year; however, the double one is much better! First of all, if we're having company we always cook more than 1 chicken. This rack helps fit two chickens in our grill much easier (they stand closer together then w/o a rack. The rack is high quality, and easy to clean. I am really impressed with this item!

We used to have a single non-stick roaster. It was never non-stick from day one, and after awhile, the coating started to peel. We then used foil to wrap the roaster which turned out to be a big hassle and mess.

Our new Grillpro is just wonderful. Beautiful design (fold-able) and construction (sturdy stainless steel). The drip pan is a MUST and unlike other brands, is big and deep enough for the juice/fat from the chickens. The handles on the drip pan are great!

Plenty of room for 2 chickens, they both turned out perfect, no spillage over the sides of the pan, easy cleanup in the dish washer and stores away nicely. I recommend this product to anybody.

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Signature Stainless Steel Grilling Kabob Skewers, Set of 6 (3/8-in

Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Signature Stainless Steel Grilling Kabob Skewers, Set of 6If you like grilling kabobs these are great skewers for you. Basically, there are two main types of skewers available in the market. Metal and Wooden. Wooden ones can be made of bamboo or other wood types and often are round shape. The problem with wood skewers is that they can get burnt if the grill is quite hot so you have to soak the skewers in water before use. Also, because they are round, it's difficult to "flip" the skewer so that you can evenly grill the kabobs or whatever else you are grilling.

The metal skewers generally available in market are round. You don't have to soak them in water but they still have problem with flipping the skewer for even cooking. Flat metal skewers are perhaps the best. They are not burnt by heat and you can flip the skewer easily for even cooking. The only thing you have to be careful about is that metal gets hot after being on grill, so hand gloves are a must with these.

I bought weber flat flat skewers before I bought these. The weber ones are not as wide and perhaps not as sturdy as these. These skewers are also available in 5/8 inch and 7/8 inch widths besides the 3/8 inch width. I bought all three width skewers from amazon but I think for most purposes 3/8 inch size is best.

I am giving these four stars because when I hand washed them I could bend the skewer while washing and I think they could be made sturdier.

For the price, I think I got an excellent product.

I bought several different sized sets of these skewers so I could try them all, including the widest so I could cook ground beef.

These stainless steel jems are simply the best........ The quality and workmanship is excellent. Unlike water soaked bamboo skewers that will burn up, you can cook your kabobs on very hot fires and get that crusty exterior that makes em taste great. These skewers are flat and can be turned with tongs or even pliers. The meat and veggies will not spin. They are dish washer safe.

I shortened several of the skewers by 2" making them the perfect length to fit in a Large Big Green Egg. Left at full length they are fine for a 22" Webber.

I also used a file to sharpen the points to make the food literally glide on the skewers. (Take care when using the skewers if you sharpen them)

I'd give these a 6 out of 5 if I could.

These skewers are great they make cooking kebabs easier and hence more enjoyable to me. They really are flat so they don't rotate. By hand these are easy to clean and I haven't had any rust problems (I don't own a dishwasher). I don't own a grill either so I make all of my kebabs under a gas broiler. I make a *lot* of kebabs (from Indian to Vietnamese to BBQ, see images for an example) and I went through soaking bamboo skewers like lots of other people. I also wasted money on those metal skewers with the "B B Q" on the ends (available on Amazon). They're terrible (I reviewed those as well). Finally I bought all 3 sizes of the Steven Raichlen skewers together with a mandoline slicer and got the cheapest one free by the 4-for-3 promotion. At first I found it a little difficult to get the skewers through certain types of meat, and I poked myself a few times (nothing serious). I decided to sharpen the ends of the skewers myself. I have to be more careful now, but ultimately I think it's safer since the skewers just glide through the meat and I don't have to force them and they don't slip (similar to why sharp knives are safer than dull ones). I uploaded an image of a sharpened versus nonsharpened skewer end.

Kebabs are a great food in my opinion -delicious yet easy, fast and fairly inexpensive (depending on the meat you choose, of course!). It usually takes me about 30 minutes to get a marinade together and prepare the meat, then I let them sit in the fridge for a day or so. Cooking kebabs under the broiler is quick and easy, cleanup is a snap, and a citrus splash, some dipping sauce (either a chutney or the rest of the marinade cooked down to a paste) and a simple side dish (from homemade potato salad to a green salad to other, various veggie kebabs) complete the meal. Wash it down with a homemade ginger kombucha and finish with an espresso for dessert. I am an avid cook and have bought lots of equipment and cookbooks on Amazon. Eventually I will review all of them, especially the cookbooks, so you can see which kebab recipes I like for whatever it's worth.

The actual skewer is wonderful to use, keeping the meat and veggies from moving around. However, after putting them in the dishwasher to clean they came out with rust on them, so are they actually stainless steel. I recommend hand washing.

Just what you need for Turkish style kebabs and vegetables that would otherwise be hard to handle on the grill. The flat design means no rolling around and the food is held better than with the cheap round skewers. However, you need barbecue gloves to handle these safely.

Hamilton Beach 25460 Panini Press Gourmet Sandwich Maker

Hamilton Beach 25460 Panini Press Gourmet Sandwich MakerFortunately, I did not drop mine on floor, so it has not broken. It works quite fine, crisp bread and cheese melts. All inside of sandwich is melted and or heated. Can handle a wide variety of thickness of sandwich. A knob on right side as you are facing unit allows you to lock the lid at desired height.

For what it is supposed to do, I cannot fault it at all.

Got it for my wife 2-3 months ago and she still tells me she loves it. It looks and works very nicely. The paninis are cooked just like they would've if we bought from a panini restaurant.

I give it 5 stars because I haven't had any issues and because its heavy duty design makes me feel like it will never have issues. If any problems arise, I will edit this post.

Cuisinart GC-15 Griddler 1000-Watt Compact Grill Centro

Cuisinart GC-15 Griddler 1000-Watt Compact Grill CentroThis will cook everthing you want for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is an amazing appliance that I use all the time.

I bought this grill because when weather is not so good I can't travel with my family to the barbeque park that involves a lot to make barbeque for 2 kids, someone has to watch them while I'm cooking.

I live in apartment, so this was the best option for me to get electric grill.

I buy marinated chicken and lamb in the Russian store in Brooklyn because till now, I couldn't marinate meat in a way that they do it in my store making meat so tender and soft.

Now, let's review the product itself. It is good when you use a pan on top rather than skewers for meat.

What I'm trying to say here is that meat rolls over when skewers are rolling because skewers are so thin and would rotate within the meat that causes meat not to be rolled, the only way around it to cut meat in a longer way and thinner because weight causes meat to roll over the skewers, I wish skewers were wider than they're that would make meat roll with them.

Sometimes, I would cook my meat on the top pan that works great as well.

As for the hot-dogs, can't say anything since I have not tried to make them, but I believe that this part will work.

My only negative is narrow skewers if you understand what is happening with my meat, I wish them to be wider to hold meat when rolling, not roll by itself leaving meat not rolling against heater.

these skewers may be good when you use them for vegatables, but it is not for me.

We are having a lot of fun with this item. It is so versatile, we find ourselves make up recipes to try just to use one or the other part of grill/griddle. We bought shrimp, beef tender loin for kabobs, weiners, veggies, etc to play. The grill is perfect to fry bacon with both of our bacon presses. Perfect bacon.

Kingsford Memphis Grill Brush

Kingsford Memphis Grill BrushI purchased all Kingsford tools for my grill, as I'm very fond of the steel and red rubber aesthetic. All of them are fantastic, except for this brush. At $20, it's already too pricey, and that's before you get to the flimsy quality on the head.

My grill has cast-iron grates, so they need a little force to be cleaned. Maybe this brush just isn't designed to hold up under that pressure, but I don't think that's a valid excuse. It's not complicated -it's just a brush.

Anyways, the head of the brush will bend back and forth if you put even moderate pressure on it. It looks nice, but it's not built very well at all. The bristles have even been bent up quite a bit, and this is after only maybe a dozen uses.

This brush is probably adequate for a small, cheap grill, but not for much else.

Chipwood Picnic Rectangle Basket

Chipwood Picnic Rectangle BasketI have a terminal illness and I use this "tote" items from the kitchen to the livingroom (where I spend a great deal of time). It itsn't super sturdy so don't use it for heavy items or bang it around but to tote a few small items it has been great. I love it and it was just what i was looking for.

I was looking for a small picnic style basket to put a china tea set in for my granddaughter, and after looking at a number of them, I chose this one. It turned out to be the perfect size, and the basketry was well done. However, the hardware was very cheap, and one of the hinges didn't even have a pin in it. Not to be foiled (her birthday was within a couple of days and I didn't have time to look for anything else) I scrounged around and found a jewelry head pin to replace the hinge pin. We then gorilla glued all the screws holding the hardware, and wound up with a pretty sturdy little basket. In an ideal world, it would have been sent in perfect condition, but it was salvagable, and my granddaughter was delighted.

This basket was cheap and it is cheaply made. It will be fine for my Halloween costume. It would also work well for decorating a shelf or as a one time use gift basket or centerpiece. It is not fit for actual continued use. The frame is bent so I have to squish it into position and hold it there to allow the top to open. The reed is dry and delicate and will crack and break if flexed by continued use. It will probably be in tatters by the end of Halloween night, but that's okay. It will have served it's purpose.

Charcoal Companion Non-Stick Rectangle Grilling Basket with Rosewood Handle

Charcoal Companion Non-Stick Rectangle Grilling Basket with Rosewood HandleI used to cut up pounds of veggies, and spend countless hours marinating them and placing them piece by piece onto skewers. The outcome was tasty but the amount of items you'd lose during grilling was kind of disappointing.

I ordered this grill basket from Amazon, and its great! I had a few 1 gallon bags full to the top from Fathers Day; chunks of red onion, white onion, whole white mushrooms, zucchini, red peppers, orange peppers, corn on the cob, and of course a few cloves of fresh garlic...all marinating in some olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, and paprika.

Instead of skewering each piece I simply dumped the bag into the basket, latched it shut, and tossed it on a hot grill! The outcome is fantastic!

Clean up is a little challenging just because of the size and wire mesh you gotta wipe down, for the most part a quick rinse under water and a sponge between the grids was more than enough. (A garden hose and sprayer would be perfect)

One quick tip I found is really "compress" your veggies into the basket, squeeze the top cover down tight and latch it shut...it'll save those little chunks from falling out!

This is really a great item for anybody who enjoys grilling, from fish to veggies, you'll be more than happy!

This grill basket shows well and feels great. The non-stick grates are a breeze to clean and it hangs up easily for storage. It has a nice sturdy feel.

The pictures are hard to tell, but the space between each grate is too large for many grillable items. I purchased this mainly to grill vegetables (asparagus, mushrooms, onions, squash), but I found out rather quickly that it was quite easy for them to fall through. This is rather disappointing since the rest of the attributes are great.

I used this to make BBQ chicken, came out perfect! No more flipping each piece one by one..now I just do it all at once, saves me a lot of time! I love the nonstick surface and that the clamp adjusts to the thickness of the meat. I bought another brand (it wasn't nonstick) and you couldn't adjust to make it tighter to clamp down, I returned it. I love the wooden handle, saves me from burns (although I still use an oven glove to rotate it). Definitely recommend this one!!
