Staub Cast Iron 17 x 10 Grill Pan, Black

With great anticipation I unboxed the fancy Staub Cast Iron 17 x 10 Grill Pan, Black but was shocked to discover that one of the ridges had the enamel already rubbed or chipped off (about an inch long). The enamel is about half a millimeter thick and it looked like the full thickness was gone. There were no apparent bits of enamel in the box, and the box didn't appear damaged in any way, so it was probably defective when it got put in the box. For such an expensive pan it seems there was poor quality control and the factory packaging consisted just of the printed cardboard box with some pamphlets thrown in. Not even a plastic bag or wrapped in paper. I'd be curious to find out if this is the expected packaging for Staub, or if the product I got was a poor re-pack of an open box item that had been damaged. This is going back to Amazon for a refund.

In contrast, before this purchase I had been at Macy's in person and saw the Emeril by All-Clad E6019764 Cast-Iron 2-Burner Reversible Grill / Griddle Cookware, Black. The packaging included bubble wrap inside the box and the surface of the pan looked perfect but I suspect the enamel is very thin. I guess I'm going to try that one instead.

Love the tongs. The length keeps you from getting any heat on your hands, wrist and forearm. Have used it 4 times since I got it and liked it so much that I bought one for a friend who had tongs that were like 9 inches long that I had to only turn one piece at a time and then let my hand cooll off if the flames were roaring. These tongs are HUGE. I thought they were quality, but they started to rust around the hinges. They are always hand washed and air dried. Maybe I need to dry them with a blow dryer?

The only other tongs I have are made by OXO and they have yet to rust.

It's time to shop for Christmas. My sister has a pig motif in her kitchen. We both cook from scratch, grow a garden, and grill outside. Corn on the cob is served often at our home. I had some shaped as a cob, with one pointed blade like a long stick pin. The corn cob rolled, making buttering a chore. I am so happy I found these useful little holders. I inspected the Charcoal Companion Pig Corn Holders and found them cute pigs, large enough to hold easily, and with two blades for piercing the cob. No more rolling corn when trying to butter the cob. I also liked that they were packed in four, I might come for dinner.

Okay I know these are corn holders and thus must be somewhat sharp to hold the corn, but holy cow these things could be weapons! But they are so cute and I get so many compliments on them that I just put them in a big glass bowl so my guests have plenty of room to reach in and grab a set without stabbing their fingers. (I also bought the cow set and I put them all together it definitely makes a great conversation starter!)

This item is very cute, easy to use and wash. It is somewhat bulky to store in utensil drawer though and WATCH out for the sharp points when u reach in for them. I still love them!

Better Houseware Magnetic Hook Rack, Stainless

This set of magnetic hooks will not work on textured metal surfaces. I bought it to use on my Fridge (with a textured surface) and with any weight at all it just slides to the floor. I bought a set of individual "rare earth" magnet hooks that are 1/4 the size of the magnets on this thing and each of them will hold four-times the weight (for less than 1/3 the money for 8 hooks). If you are looking to mount this on a smooth surface it MIGHT work, but I wouldn't take the chance if I were you.

I ignored the reviewers that said this slid down the side of their textured fridges and bought it anyway. Unfortunately it does slowly slide down the side of our slightly textured fridge. The magnets just aren't strong enough. I ended up putting a second (stronger) refrigerator magnet right under each of the magnets on this rack. The extra magnets keep the rack from sliding down.

I bought my first Magnetic Utensil Hook when I moved in with my daughter. Her refrigerator was next to the stove and when I saw the magnetic utensil holder at a local store, I bought it. I wasn't sure that the magnet would be strong enough to hold a bunch of utensils but it does and I have two utensils on each hook. I also bought one for my son-in-law for his BBQ and he loves it.

This is a ceramic egg holder. It holds eggs very well. We've been using it for over a month now and can say with confidence that no eggs have ever escaped.

This is a nice quality ceramic egg crate. Amazon has a large selection of egg crates that are either ceramic or plastic. I preferred to purchase the ceramic rather than the plastic egg crate for the following reasons:

1. Costco sells eggs in two dozen packages that are four by six eggs wide. I needed to separate the large package into smaller ones in order to save space in my fridge.

2. The egg crate fits perfectly in the egg compartment of my fridge. It is very similar in size and shape to traditional paper egg crates that hold one dozen eggs. The measurements are 4 3/4" x 13" x 1 3/8".

3. Plastic is porous. For this reason, plastic can absorb odors and harbor bacteria. Ceramic, on the other hand, is easy is to clean; it is dishwasher safe.

4. I avoid plastic containers due to the possibility of BPA.

5. I found the ceramic egg crate to be more attractive than the plastic one.

As a previous reviewer stated, the egg crate is heavy because it is ceramic. Another reviewer stated that they received an egg crate that was three eggs wide. The egg crate that I received looks exactly like the pictures. The egg crate is two by six eggs wide.

My housemate has chickens, so we almost never buy cartons of eggs at the store. I didn't like just keeping them in bags in the fridge, so I bought this egg dish. It's perfect! Fits in the door of my fridge, holds twelve eggs, cleans easily, looks nice.

The vent in our bathroom died recently, so seeing that it was a Nutone 665, I ordered this unit, assuming it would be easy to pull the old one out and replace it with this. Unfortunately, the housing has been redesigned for the worse. The old unit did indeed slide out very easily, leaving its hanger bars in the space above the ceiling. The new unit requires you to attach the hanger bars to the housing before installing it. Furthermore, the old unit had an opening for the power to come into the unit where the connections were light, vent, and heat were made. The new unit has these connections outside the housing.

Basically, I had to cut open a larger hole in the ceiling to allow for the hanger bars and give me space to hammer them in. The grille is barely larger than the housing, so now I have an ugly space surrounding the unit in the bathroom ceiling.

If they hadn't changed the design, I could have reconnected the power, slid the unit in, and hung it on the old hanger bars and written a 5-star review. The new design makes it much harder to install in a finished bathroom and I see no reason why it was changed. The old unit's design was far superior. If I fix the drywall and this unit dies, I'll have to cut the ceiling again to get it out. I'd rather just leave the hole and find some kind of frame to fit around the grille to hide the hole.

We had a 25 year old version of the same heat/vent/light which was still, amazingly, working. It was a bear to get down, but once we did, the new one installed easily in the same space. It's much quieter, heats the space more quickly, and looks great -the old one's grill had turned a murky yellow-orange and the light visor was bubbled. It's nice that we could get a similar but improved model that used the same sized hole.

I just purchased my home, where the previous owner had installed one of these in two bathrooms. One week later, within 24 hours, BOTH heaters broke. Since the whole thing is $80, and a new heating module is just a little less, I purchased this for the heater and for spare parts. I opened it up and the new heater module looked different from the old version. I called Nutone, and it turns out that even though the heater is modified, it still works with the old base. They emailed me a 1 page instruction sheet. Swapping the heater was straightforward, just two screws.

I hope the updated heater will be a little more robust. Time will tell, but $80 for the whole thing is a good deal. The individual components are overpriced.

EDIT: If replacing the heating unit in another unit already installed in the ceiling, you need 3 hands minimum: 1 to hold up the (heavy) heater, 1 to hold the screw which is IMPOSSIBLE to start by hand, and one hand to rig whatever crazy contraption you have to get access to the screw, shielded by a second piece of metal with a hole EXACTLY AS BIG AS THE SCREWHEAD, NO BIGGER so your screwdriver shaft won't actually fit through. I would have a few choice words to the designer who made the heater such a bitch to replace for no obvious reason.

I went almost a year with no exhaust fan in my 1/2 bath because the heater died, then the exhaust fan went. My home is old & I purchased it several years ago. I didn't think I could get one just like it, but this was the same as the old one, but easier to install. The electrical components were better! Great product! Hopefully won't need another any time soon.
