Emeril by All-Clad E6019764 Cast-Iron 2-Burner Reversible Grill / Griddle Cookware, Black

Emeril by All-Clad E6019764 Cast-Iron 2-Burner Reversible Grill / Griddle Cookware, BlackFor those of you who want a review from a lover of cast iron that actually owns this...

I love all my cast iron cookware, except this one. The enamel coating on it is horrible. I'm not sure you should even season something that has been enameled, and I would be willing to try (probably ruining the griddle completely), except that this griddle really does not hold heat evenly. I am going to give this one back to my mother in law and buy a lodge logic.

sorry Emeril, you rock, just don't like this piece.

Well, I bought it at Macy's whilst browsing. I wasn't really looking for it, but when I hefted the box, I thought that this was a SERIOUS piece of cooking equipment. Emerilware has some real crap in its line, but this seemed promising.

Well, 4 months later, I really really like it. But it isn't a traditional "put stuff on it and it works" type of device. Nope, some learning about how to use it and more about how to care for it are necessary to produce maximum benefits.

The first has been mentioned, it must be sprayed with PAM before heating. Each and Every time. Second, it takes a long long time to heat up, think at least 15 minutes (like pre-heating an oven, start this before cooking). Third, it might not fit your burners the way you like it to (especially with gas burners) but with a little time and practice one can find harmony between surface flatness, even heat distribution, and stability.

I am still learning on the care/cleaning requirements, as the directions provided are laughably inadequate. That is why I can't classify it as a 5-star product.

But it unquestionably opens new cooking frontiers for quick dinners or large breakfasts. Maybe there's a better one, and I have seen the catastrophic failures. But it sure makes cooking and more importantly eating more fun.

I have used this product as a grill and griddle over the past month. The trick here is to heat up the grill or griddle, then, brush oil or butter on it. Pancake and eggs slide around. Steak develops nice grill marks.

I use stainless steel utensils with this product.

Clean up was easy when I allowed it to heat up then brush oil or butter.

I do not own this pan, but I am a lover of cast iron cookware in general, and thus feel compelled to respond to this earlier negative review.

First of all ALL cast iron pans, whether "pre-seasoned" or raw, need to be seasoned after you buy them. Several times for best results.('seasoning' usually means baking the pan with oil in it for a good period of time to seal off the pores in the metal surface). You will not get non-stick results out of the box, no matter what you buy. I own a "pre-seasoned" 8-quart dutch oven from the Emeril series, and the pan needed to be seasoned after I got it (as did my "pre-seasoned" 12-inch Lodge skillet). I also have a smaller Lodge skillet that I bought "raw" and it's worth noting that it took significantly longer to get it to non-stick level of seasoning. So pre-seasoning helps, but does not eliminate the need for the honorable task of seasoning your pan. Regardless of issues of seasoning, my Emeril dutch oven has performed beautifully, it is very solid, has classic lines and is well-made at an accessible price, which I very much appreciate. I can't imagine the grill pan is much different. Cast iron is pretty simple, and the Emeril series seems to do it right.

2) Cast iron is unique and awesome in part because it holds heat so well, but it does need to be preheated for several minutes for full effect to allow the heat to spread out and transfer to the entire pan. Obviously a pan that covers two burners is going to have hot spots to some degree, but allowing a good 5-8 minutes for the pan to preheat will significantly reduce this. I don't know if the previous reviewer allowed enough time for preheating, which may have contributed to his/her complaints about uneven cooking. Cast iron gives the most even cooking of any cooking surface out there, for the exact same reasons that people most often complain about it it's really heavy and it gets really hot and stays that way. Certainly cast iron cooks more evenly than the electric skillet the previous reviewer mentioned buying instead. I could be completely wrong, this pan may have horrible hot spots, and as I said, I don't own this pan, but this sounds to me like it could be a user problem.

3) You can't use a cast iron pan once and throw it in the trash! It may take a month or more to get the pan to a stage where it will create the beautifully browned, crisped non-stick results that cast iron lovers rave about. Patience (and turning a deaf ear to naysayers) is well-rewarded. In my experience it doesn't make a ton of difference which manufacturer you go with, in terms of the performance of the surface or metal itself. Cast iron pretty much performs like cast iron. Variations among brands have more to do with what shape or size you like, which design feels better in your hand. The thing that makes the biggest difference in the results you'll get from cast iron is in how you treat the pan. I cook sometimes in my job as a personal assistant, and my boss has a full set of very expensive Le Creuset enameled (and some non-enameled) cast iron that barely gets used, and it's not as enjoyable to cook with as a result. I would choose my five dollar raw cast iron skillet any day of the week. The results I get from the pan are stellar because it is used often and well-loved, and therefore has a fabulous well-seasoned surface.

So I will say, if you buy this pan and it's your first piece of cast iron, give it a month or two before you decide whether or not you like it.

Which brings me to the other reason I love cast iron so much because it requires a bit of effort and patience in the beginning, I've found I really have a relationship with my cast iron pans. I LOVE my cast iron pans! (maybe this makes me crazy, but if so, it's a very enjoyable form of insanity :) ) It's a simple, humble material that will last a lifetime remember that old phrase "wears like iron?" so I highly recommend making the leap into the wonderful world of cast iron, whether with this pan or another one. Just remember that it takes a bit of patience and a bit of doing, but you will be rewarded with a friend that is (almost) as reliable as death and taxes.

Bayou Classics Cast Iron Square Skillet

Bayou Classic 7436, 10.5' Cast Iron Square SkilletPlease do not buy this skillet. I purchased the skillet for a gift for my mother-in-law. when she received it the skillet was cracked beside the handle and you could see right through the skillet. Not only that but the quality of the item was very poor not an even thickness to the cast iron at all. Rough felling. I would stay away from this skillet save your money.

ASIN:B000VXIQY8 Bayou Classic 7436, 12" Cast Iron Square Skillet]]

I thought I was really smart. I went in the kitchen and measured a skillet to see how large 12" would be. WELL, I was really upset when I got it. {You have to measure from corner to corner.} It was smaller than I had thought. For a good iron skillet ,it's a good buy. But, I can only get 2 chops in it at one time.

This skillet has the right shape and weight for baking certain things. I am satisfied with the performance of this product.

Read Best Reviews of Bayou Classics Cast Iron Square Skillet Here

I thought I was buying a 12" square pan. I searched on other websites to find more info about size but even Bayou Classic does not give the size. Other sites were also off. I gave faith to Amazon and ordered the pan.

Here are the real measurements:

Outside lip 10.4" square

Inside at the top 9.9" square

Inside at the bottom 8.6" square

Corner to corner, it does measure 12" at the top edge

Corner to end of handle, 16.8" long.

Basically the pan is the same size as the Lodge 10 1/4" square pan.

It felt lighter in weight compared to the Lodge square pan, which can be good, you get the same results of cast iron, but lighter for better handling. You do need to season it.

I have other Bayou Classic pieces and the quality is not quite the Lodge quality but the price you can't beat to get the same cooking results. I plan to buy other Bayou Classics again.

My hint about seasoning: use shortening all over the cast iron, in and outside, heat the cast iron on a gas barbecue at medium-high heat for about an hour, it will rival the quality of pre-season cast iron. I have tried the oven method and I don't think it is worth it to smoke-up the kitchen and it just does not get the cast iron seasoned well enough.

Want Bayou Classics Cast Iron Square Skillet Discount?

Now I think I'm thankful it didn't. The corner handle seemed like it would be more convenient, but I was specifically looking for a square 12" skillet, and NOT diagonally! That is misleading advertising, unless you're selling tv sets, which everyone knows are measured diagonally.

Elizabeth Karmel's 15-inch Super Silicone Angled Barbecue Mop

Elizabeth Karmel's 15-inch Super Silicone Angled Barbecue MopWorks great; exactly as advertised. The large number of super-flexible bristles suck up plenty of sauce and release it evenly over the meat. Cleanup is then super-easy: it doesn't absorb the sauce like a cotton mop so it just rinses clean. As always with grill tools, the handle could be a bit longer, but it is a very usable length.

The earlier reviews say that this brush holds a lot of 'sauce'. However, it is advertised as a mopping brush. In that capacity, it is a major disappointment. Mopping sauces are very thin and are used to keep meats (ribs, brisket, pork shoulder etc.) from drying out in the cooking process. This brush doesn't absorb enough of the mopping sauce to be effective. I don't use the cotton mops because they 'drink' most of the sauce...this one is just the opposite. It doesn't absorb enough 'mop' to baste the food to avoid drying out. It is best used to apply thicker barbeque sauce at the end of a bbq cook. Silicone just doesn't work with a mopping sauce.

Buy Elizabeth Karmel's 15-inch Super Silicone Angled Barbecue Mop Now

A mopping brush? You got to be kidding me. Maybe for a chicken leg or two. I am a serious grill enthusiast who cooks quite often outdoors and I had high hopes for this silicon brush mop. It is neither large enough or long enough to do the job unless you are cooking for maybe two people. Heat loss when raising the grill lid is an important factor when grilling or smoking meats and the tiny surface area of this mop will cause you to waste alot of time mopping on your sauce if you are cooking any substantial amount of food. Good idea that needs at least 4 times the surface area at best.

This mop works great. It holds a lot of juice, the angled head makes it easy to use on the grill, and the silicone cleans up easily.

Broil King 934657 Monarch 20 40,000-BTU Natural-Gas Grill

Broil King 934657 Monarch 20 40,000-BTU Natural-Gas GrillI recently moved to a Townhome which allowed only electric or Natural Gas Grills. Also, I had limited space on my deck so size was also an issue. Most Nat Gas grills were either too big or very expensive. It took me a while but I came accross this Broil King 934657 Monarch Naturat Gas Grill online and it met my requirements for size and fuel. It also had some features that you would expect on a more expensive grill i.e. stainless steel burners, 4 wheels 2 front locking, fold down side trays with utensiland cup holdersand cast iron grates. I've had this grill for more that a month and I'm very pleased with the way it grills. We grill 3-5 xs a week and I have grilled ribs, steak, chicken and fish all with great flavor. Amazon delivered it on a timely basis and assembly was a snap. The only improvement I would make is to hav a brace accross the back of the grill to make it more sturdy. However I can live with it, it performs great and it's good value for the money, I strongly recommend it.

This is a well built product. I have had this for three years now and it is holding up much better than I anticipated. I live in a high humidity area and was expecting some rust. So far nothing. The only rust I see is on the cast iron grates. I wish they were stainless steel for this area. The push button starter has never failed and lights every time. We use this about 5 times a week, even in Winter.

The quality is as good as Weber at about $100 less cost.

Camp Chef 24IN Reversible Grill/Griddle

Camp Chef CGG24 Cast iron grill/griddleThis combo is a SOLID 25 lbs. Good quality product. Be sure to follow the directions and season it before its initial use. It would be a good idea to have a baster handy to siphon the excess grease from the grill. I used sea salt to clean up and made sure to dry the unit thoroughly before storing it away in the carry bag.

I bought this griddle for pancakes, grilled cheese, and the occasional hibachi-style Asian meal for my growing family. Overall, I think it's a solid choice for such tasks. It transfers and holds heat well, as cast iron typically will. The manufacturer's shipping department, however, proved unreliable to say the least. The first one we received was cracked due to insufficient packaging, and then they replaced it with the wrong product, and finally, almost a month after ordering it, a new one was delivered intact. I hope this experience is not typical, and the customer service rep was personally helpful.

The griddle is pretty well constructed, though I noticed that the flat side was not as flat as it should have been. It looked as if the ridges on the other side had caused a few undulations in the surface. It's not severe enough to really affect day-to-day use so far, but don't expect a plate-glass-flat surface.

I use this griddle on top of my 5-burner gas stove, and I can run all five burners under it for a full cooking surface. Or I can turn on two or three burners and reserve a space for keeping food warm. Be advised that there will still be some cooler spots between the burners, even with all of them going. If you insist on very even heat across the whole surface, you might be happier with a high-end electric griddle. That said, cast iron heats more evenly over a burner than most other cookware made of other materials, and you can learn to utilize the cooler spaces for slower cooking.

Anyone considering buying this product should think carefully about the product specs. The usable cooking surface is 23"X13", which is big. But be sure it will fit on your intended heat source. It may not sit securely on some stovetops. And yes, it really does weigh 25 lbs. Suffice to say, cleaning it can be a challenge. I usually scrape it thoroughly with a nylon scraper or spatula while it's still warm, and wash it down with hot, soapy water while it's still on the stovetop but has cooled somewhat. Then I heave it over to the sink to rinse it off with the sprayer. I return it to the stovetop to dry it over low heat. Or you can use a paper towel to dry it. I really like cooking on cast iron, so I think this extra trouble is worth it.

The griddle comes with a handy bag for storage, though the zipper broke almost immediately. And finding storage space for something this size can be interesting. It fits in one of our cabinets, but barely. The included instructions suggest seasoning the griddle before using. That's a nice idea, but it doesn't fit in my oven, and because seasoning produces a lot of smoke, I'm not about to do this on the stovetop. Fortunately, a well-cared-for cast iron surface will eventually build up a very nicely seasoned surface. Finally, although this feels very durable, be aware that any cast iron can crack or shatter if dropped on a hard surface, so handle it carefully when moving it.

The grill works as promised. We use it only for pancakes. The metal surface is smooth and high quality cast iron. The only problem is this puppy is heavy and large. Perhaps I got carried away when ordering one this big.

Although this griddle can cook a pound of bacon at a time, it has a major design flaw. The manufacturer did not temper this capacious slab of cast iron. So while enjoying the normal popping and splattering noises of bacon being rendering into luscious breakfast meat, I suddenly heard an explosion. Someone had fired a 50-caliber round into my kitchen at short range! Ok, no. It was just my new griddle. It had cracked right down the middle. Cast iron items must be "tempered" at the factory post-casting. This object probably was not. I can't recommend it, because the resulting crack lets cooking grease drip right over the burners.

It was larger and heavier than I expected, so great quality. That also makes it hard to wash, but I am absolutely happy with my purchase.

I actually use it on top of my stove and grills excellent. I can make anything from Waffle House style pancakes and hash browns, to the best grilled chicken perfect for a panini sandwich.

Worth the buy.

Igrill White Digital Grilling Thermometer with DUAL PROBES

Igrill White Digital Grilling Thermometer with DUAL PROBESThis device was either defective or not developed well enough for customers. I found the device very cumbersome to try and use, instructions were VERY minimal and its operations erratic -never fully working as claimed. The app response time was excessive. I had another "remote thermometer" with a separate receiver that worked great and only cost $25 or so; it broke after a couple years so I bought the iGrill to replace it -bad idea. To make things worse, it was hard to reach the vendor, who wanted to work outside the Amazon grid, and when I did return it, they charged a 15% restocking fee and I had to eat the postage both ways. Bad experience for sure and it cost me a few bucks -I buy from Amazon at least twice a week and this was the first time I had any return problem like this; in the future, I will only buy from Amazon if the product is stocked and sold by Amazon.

Bought this for a friend. Have to admit we were skeptical: Until we tried it.

First tried it on an airport concourse (long story...). Kept the receiver in a restaurant and went approx 150' down the concourse with the transmitter, and into a washroom (concrete block walls). Still had signal!

Used it for real since then at several locations and the extended range was amazing.

The range is terrific FAR better than the traditional wireless thermometers.

The app is rock solid and much more intuitive than the text/scrolling required with traditional thermometers. Only one very slight gripe: programming the app set point took a little head-scratching the first time, but that's just a learning curve thing.

Of course, just like any other thermometer,

DON'T let the connections on either end of the cable (at the probe and the plug) get wet when cleaning! Scrub only the probe!

I had looked at these a few times but never bought one because there seem to be an awful lot of bad reviews for this product. But my wife, who does not usually check reviews, thought it would make a perfect gift for me. And she was right!

I unboxed it, put in the batteries, then downloaded the Igrill app on my IPad and IPhone. I turned everything on, synched up the bluetooth, and it works perfectly. Maybe the company has fixed the issues with the older units? Maybe I just got a good one? All I can say is mine works great.

I love the IPad app for this unit. It displays both probes, which you can name. I normally name one for the meat I am cooking, and name the second one "grill temp" because I set it to monitor the smoker, or grill temp. I can set alarms for highs or lows. I can set timers. It even gives a graph of the probe temps over time. Pretty cool.

The box says the bluetooth range is 200 feet. I have used it out to a bit over 100 feet and it works great. No interference with walls or any of my electronic equipment.

I am very happy with this unit and am thankful my wife got it for me.

Got this back in March and we love it. We've used it about five times in our outdoor grill. I got the dual probe for when we grill and bake at the same time, but haven't had the opportunity to try that aspect yet. No problems with the iPhone or iPad app, setup, or cleaning the probes. It seems pretty accurate on the temps. It's a really handy way to keep up with meat temps and not have to run outto check all the time! One thing: since this uses Bluetooth, you can only pair with one device at a time. So, if you use both an iPad and an iPhone understand you have to pick one or the other each time you grill. It's not a big deal. Hopefully, the manufacturer can upgrade this as Bluetooth functionality updates.

Want Igrill White Digital Grilling Thermometer with DUAL PROBES Discount?

How can you make Bluetooth complicated? Buy an iGrill. This device is wonderful when it stays connected. Pairing this device with my iPad 2 was difficult and I am no rookie. I ended up with both apps (good as they are free) then the device seemed to pair and work correctly so save yourself some time and download both apps as one of them has the right drivers for this device and the other one does not. Also, your range is very limited AND don't use the cheapo batteries that came with the device. I would also recommend buying the device with two probes even if you don's use one at first. If you go to buy more probes you will end up with at least $12 shipping and handling on top of the cost of the probes. Guess how I learned that one?!#$#! I will now use one probe in the meat and one just laying in the grill so I will know if the grill is losing heat or flameout. Good product, bogus company and product support.

Swissmar KF-77480 4 Person Raclette with Reversible Grill/Griddle Plate, Black

Swissmar KF-77480 4 Person Raclette with Reversible Grill/Griddle Plate, BlackI was concerned that a product like this might be poorly constructed and short of heat, but this one is the exact opposite. It seems like it made from a reasonable gauge metal with appropriate design to support the food on the top. I think it will be important to store the unit somewhere where it will not get stuff stacked on top of it, however, to prevent both scratching of the nonstick surfaces and bending the vertical braces.

It does indeed get hot enough to cook! The top surface gets hot enough to make sausage sizzle, hot dogs brown nicely, vegetables get warmed and browned. The unit does not come with a plastic spatula for turning foods or removing them so you'll need to have one on hand. The pans in which one melts the cheese are larger than I expected with enough space to hold an entire sandwich size slice of cheese. It seems to take a bit longer to get the cheese actually browned than I expected, but with good conversation and company, that's not an issue, really. This device is as much about being social as it is cooking.

I got the 4 person instead of the 8 because my dining room table would be too large for people near the ends to reach something in the center, so I plan to use two of these making it convenient for all. The next one will be this same brand, I am now confident.

Cuisinart CSK-250 GreenGourmet 14-Inch Nonstick Electric Skillet

Cuisinart CSK-250 GreenGourmet 14-Inch Nonstick Electric SkilletBig,and beautiful with a glass top that lets you see exactly how things are cooking. We are big fans and users of electric frying pans, these things are great, and this one is certainly bigger and perhaps better than the many others we have used to death, BUT there is this one flaw and it is hard to get over.

The vent hole in the glass top is too small. Water vapor stuffs up in this little hole and the lid starts to sputter all around the edge and all over the counter top. Cooking too fast? Well no. The temp control shuts on and off as most of them do, and so when it's in the on mode the pan gets a rush of heat and the top then sputters all over the place.

We have had the pan for about eight months, so perhaps cuisinart has corrected this problem.

My grandma gave us a 12-inch square electric skillet in the 70s, but we hardly ever used it and eventually gave it to Goodwill. It offered no advantage over stovetop cooking.

My wife got the Green skillet for me last month. The 14 inch size makes it very versatile. You can brown a lot of mushrooms without having to batch-cook them. I'm sure it will fry a lot of chicken too.

The heat distribution is good. At 450 F, you can't sear steaks--leave that to 550F+ cast iron or Staub's enameled iron grill pans-but golden-browning is wonderfully easy to achieve.

For open-pan cooking, I would give it 4-5 stars.

I must however, subtract two full stars for the patently inadequate lid design. How many of us use lidded pans without using their lids to cook? It would be nice to use the Green skillet to steam, simmer or boil things, but the condensate on the lid underside flows directly to the pan rim, gathers, then bubbles, spits and drips all over the countertop and onto the temp-control module. I have to put a towel over the latter, not knowing if an electrical short could otherwise occur, and even then I have to wipe up the countertop afterwards. Or I have to "crack" the lid (which lessens dripping and directs it to one area). Not a fatal issue, but indicative of less-than-fully-thoughtful attention to functional detail by Cuisinart.

Two design modifications to the lid would greatly improve things. 1) a much larger vent hole with a sliding shutter to adjust the size of the orifice, and 2) a glass or metal circular rim on the underside running maybe a half inch from the lid's edge, to force lid-condensate to drip into the pan instead of flowing to the lid/pan-edges interface and sputtering out.

All in all, we're using this pan a lot, as it works really well for open-pan cooking, and then using the lid to keep food warm.

Although it initially worked well, this pan was a knock-off, not a Cuisinart item, as stated. The coating began lifting off after a few uses. The recipient contacted Cuisinart, which advised her of the propensity for sales on Amazon often being knock-offs. The parts come from the same source, but there are differences, such as the coating. (Cuisinart was very kind and, since she had the original receipt, allowed her to return the first pan at her cost and then shipped her a genuine cuisinart CSK-250, which definitely had a different coating.)

Nice large, deap, non stick, electric skillet with a heavy glass lid that has a vent hole in it. The only issue is that it has a small metal handle on the lid that gets very hot and you have to use a pot holder or oven glove to lift it when you want to stir the food. I would give this product five stars if they replaced the metal handle with a larger heat resistant handle.

Want Cuisinart CSK-250 GreenGourmet 14-Inch Nonstick Electric Skillet Discount?

I have used it twice to make French Cruellers. They are fried in 2" of oil. The first time I set the thermostat for 325F and when the light went out I assumed it was up to Temp. Put my donut in and it just sat there. I tried the 350 setting but that didn't bring the temp up much so I turned it to 450 and was able to get the cruellers done.

Today I decided to try it again. I put the 2 inches of room temp oil in the fry pan. Turned the thermostat to 350F. I checked it with a very trusty Thermo-Pen after 30 minutes and it was barely up to 250F. I finally turned the thermostat up to 450F and ONE hour later it registered 350 on my Thermo-Pen.

I feel there is something wrong with this skillet. I have many many Cuisinart products including all of their stainless steel cookware and I've been very happy with it. I would have written to the seller but haven't a clue who that is or how to find an email link for them.
