These are excellent gloves for both the grill and fireplace. They are long (18"), so they cover the entire forearm, and they are heavy duty (thick leather). Also, they are gloves, not mitts, and that makes a huge difference. Mittens give you no ability to grip or pick up items; gloves give you all the flexibility of, well, gloves!

My husband has used these everyday for both grilling duties and stocking his fireplace.

He is super picky about quality, and these meet his exacting standards.

The two 1-star reviews here are not based on this product, but rather on the manufacturer and the shipper. I hope those customers followed up, got their products, and then review the actual gloves.

I bought these for my husband who barbeque's a lot. He's always complained about getting burned and that normal oven mitts just don't do the job.

He barbequed a "Bud bird" chicken and was very happy with the heat resistance of these glove. Then he lifted the pan off the grill and carried it into the house. About three feet away from the grill, the heat from the pan started to burn through the gloves.

So for a short time span, the gloves are great at resisting the heat, but the heat resistance for a longer period of time is not so great.

We didn't expect him to be able to hold super hot things indefinitely, but we were hoping that he could at least carry a hot pan 20 feet to get into the house.

The gloves are great at keeping the heat off his hands and forearms while grilling though.

My husband used it. He said they are not for direct contact to any hot iron trays from the grills. They are to protect your hands and lower arms during grilling.

I already owned a pair of these gloves purchased about 3 years ago. They were starting to get warn so I decided to replace them. I ordered them and was surprised when they arrived that I couldn't get my hand into them. The old pair fit fine. I measured them and they were 3/8 inch smaller. I contacted the company and they sent me a pre-paid mailer to return them. The gloves they returned to me were a tiny bit larger (maybe 1/16 inch) and I could get them on my hand with a bit of force. I will keep trying to use them and hope they will stretch a bit.

The company was great about trying to solve my problem but there was nothing they could do since the design of the glove had changed. They said they were going to pursue this further with the company that makes the glove. I hope they do because they are great gloves.

So, if your hands are on the small to normal size, these are great gloves.

These are essentially fancy leather welding gloves. Welding gloves have to protect you from being burned by spatters of molten metal, that cool almost immediately upon landing on a surface at room temperature. Cooking mitts, on the other hand, need to be able to hold a 400 degree object for many seconds without transmitting the heat. They also need to insulate even if they're wet.

I found that this glove, despite being well made and attractive, is no good for holding hot items. At best, it protects hand and arm while grilling, if you're using tongs, lets say, over a very hot fire. Just don't expect to be able to hold a hot pan for more than a couple of seconds before the heat is conveyed directly to your tender skin and you have to put it down immediately or drop it.

I really do like this little timer. I works well with the grill cover down. My grill is on the back porch and I can put the probe for the thermometer in the meat and put the remote in my pocket and go back inside. The only complaint about this unit is the volume of the alarm. I have mild hearing loss and if the volume was adjustable and about 3 times as loud, that would be great. Other than that it's a great little unit if you have good hearing.

don't waste your money. you can't here the alarm and after having it for 6 months, today I tried using the meat thermometer for the first time and it would not work. Don't buy it.

This product worked great for the first use. We smoked a pork loin, ribs, chicken thighs in our Charbroil Smoker/Grill. The thermometer beeped when it was all ready and the meat was not overcooked, undercooked; just perfect.

On the second use, the thermometer immediately went from registering the temperature of a raw pork butt at 40 degrees to 140 degrees in about 1 minute. Then the unit began to continuously beep and display "HH" as the temperature. I consulted the manual that accompanied the product and no mention of the "HH" was made. An online search showed that other wireless thermometers show "HH" as a problem code or "high heat".

I contacted the manufacturer and was told that the product should not be used in a smoker, due to the high temperature inside a smoker unit. The "HH" means that the meat probe has been damaged and will no longer work. The product instructions does not mention this at all. They manufacturer is sending us a replacement probe that is designed differently and we were told that it should work, but that we should also be careful using it in the smoker. I will try this when the replacement is received and will report back on its success (or not). If it does not work, I will be consulting the manufacturer for a full refund, as their instructions do not mention refraining from use in a smoker/grill.

Reviews, trust you should exercise. Bristles fall out of brush head on first use. Trust the reviews, certainly I did not. Purchased brush replacement heads. Lo and behold, product was defective on first use. My tasty burger, no longer bristle-free. Lesson learned.

Pad may be replaceable, but it shouldn't need replacement in ninety days, after modest use. Brush it replaced lasted more than a year.

These were cute, but cheaply made. One handle broke the first time I tried to cut some room temp monterey jack. And instead of saying "handwashing recommended" they should say "NOT dishwasher safe" , as all of the paint came off in the first run in the dishwasher. I would NOT recommend or purchase this product again, and am disappointed.

These spreaders are great for Halloween. The finish on the handles is nice. The painted features are also good. The only thing that is not up to snuff, is the blades. They are very thin and the finish is a little spotty.

It's a small thing. I have Christmas spreaders that have the same problem. I guess it's just part of the deal when you get cheap holiday themed spreaders from China but since the blades will be covered with "spread" they won't really be seen. What will be noticed is the cool handles.

I am so surprised that this product only has 3 stars. I use this 2-3 times a month...I make 1 cup of gluten free mix which puts out 28-30 baby waffles...then I freeze them on a baking sheet, once frozen I then bag them. This process of freezing helps them not to stick to each other.

Every morning my daughter wakes up saying "waffles, waffles" she's 2. I put 4 in the cold toaster oven set it on broil...ready in2-3 minutes. When I make the batter I add a tablespoon of honey, maple or agave to the batter...gives the waffles a tiny taste of sweetness. They are then ready for munching...I do not add additional syrup...to messy for a 2 year old. She loves them this way.

One more thing I no longer oil the waffle pan this makes them browner & crispier...yes only one side gets the toasty color the other side is lightly toasted. For presentation I always lay the dark side up. I love this pan!

My baby girl loves these little waffles. I think she was getting bored w/pancakes...I use a gluten-free mix from Whole Foods by 365, their delicious...I love them too. Make sure the pan gets nice & hot (otherwise the batter does not get a nice toasty color to it), I lightly oil each little griddle & they come out perfect. Buy some nice maple syrup & organic butter...Yum. Enjoy.

Got this for my birthday from my mom (it had been in my wish list for while) and I am not disappointed. I have three little boys who love pancakes and I don't have room for a large waffle iron in my kitchen. I tried this out (using the recipe included with the pan) and they were delicious and easy.

My tips for success: butter or oil the pan before you put the mix in and only cook 4-5 at a time (otherwise I had trouble flipping them fast enough--or else I need to turn it down some more!) Sprays don't work as well (same as any other non-stick surface--they leave residue and buildup on the Teflon); oil with a basting brush is better. You use a fork to flip them and it's actually not too hard to flip them back into the little holes.

Bottom line: Great purchase. Fun. Tasty waffles. Worth the money! :)

P.S. Here is the recipe in case you misplaced it. I think that they work best with the recipe that came with it.

Ingredients

1 cup flour

½ tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. sugar

¾ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk

1 Tbsp. melted butter

Directions

Preheat pan over medium heat and season with butter or oil. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, sugar, baking powder and salt; set aside. Beat egg until light and fluffy. Add egg, buttermilk and butter to dry mixture; mix until blended. Spoon about 2 Tbsp. butter into each cavity, and cook until pancakes bubble. Turn each pancake over and continue cooking until pancakes are a light golden brown.

I LOVE Nordicware's products and was quite excited when I found this pan marked down at my local giant store. However, don't order this pan thinking that voila! You're going to get up and have a great time making waffles. Not so! This boy takes some serious practice to get them right. The instructions do not say at all if it needs oiled or not and since the finish is nonstick, you cannot spray it with cooking spray or it will peel off. So, my first batch, thinking that it might be the same coating they use for Williams Sonoma, was made without using any nonstick product. Well, I had waffle goo everywhere imaginable and crumbled up waffles. So, I dug it out, cleaned it, and tried again. (The ONLY thing that will clean this too, by the way, is a very soft, non-scratching bottle brush. You just wouldn't believe all the nooks and crannies this guy has!) This time I used butter in the waffle sections before I put in the batter. Guess what? It really works well! They flip out easily and you can actually turn them over without making a messy disaster. The directions indicate that you need to use a plastic fork to flip the waffles and believe me, that's the ONLY thing that works! They really should include that with this product it would definitely make life easier! Recommend, but be sure you use a good waffle recipe and butter in the compartments!

I was skeptical that this could work but ordered the waffle griddle anyway. I love it. The wafflecakes made with the recipe on the pan were delicious, very light and fluffy. I normally don't like waffles because they are often hard and crispy, but these were not. The first time I used the pan I used too much batter and they ran together but if you actually follow the directions and measure 2 Tbsp. in each slot it really, really works. I hightly recommend this griddle for pancake lovers.

I was excited about this product and it seemed like such a good idea! I love waffles, but hate the bulk of and inability to easily clean a waffle maker. So this seemed like a perfect compromise. But for me, it just didn't work. I used vegetable oil to grease the pannot non stick spray since it seems to get "gunky" on non-stick surfaces, and then put my batter in. It scorched quite quickly, even though it was only on medium heat, and then they stuck to the pan when I tried to turn them over to cook the other side. Trying to turn them over was a bit awkward, too. I don't know if my experience was different since we have an electric flat-surface range? Perhaps cooking on a gas stove is different? But I was not happy with how it cooked or the ease of use. I guess I'll have to drag out the wafflemaker...

Kingsford KRU40 St. Louis Grill Brush

I had given this grill brush a five-star rating just a few days ago, but now must change it to only one star. Why? While cleaning off the grill today I noticed that the brush has started shedding metal bristles. Lots of them, and this is only the fourth time I have used the brush. I have handled it no differently than others I have used in the past, and those had no shedding issues whatsoever. (They were just as inexpensive as this one, too.) It is a good thing that I was paying attention, because otherwise my steak and asparagus would have been seasoned with sharp barbs of stainless steel. I'm throwing the brush away, as well as the extra replacement head I purchased with it. The folks who produce this brush should consider recalling them, and Amazon might want to consider notifying buyers of this potential problem.

Nice brush, long handle, great quality and construction but I am disappointed that Amazon is advertising that it comes with a replacement head when it does not.

The bristles are indeed stainless steel, but the rest of the metal parts rusted within one month, so the whole thing now looks totally disgusting. Very disappointed.

De Buyer Mineral Steel Grill Pans

I have the de Buyer carbon steel pan as well as the heavier mineral pan which is slower to season than the carbon steel pan. You have to effectively season (black patina) the surface in order to achieve stronger grill marks. The grill lines seem a little wide; depending on the weight of the food, the grill marks can be narrow or wide. Heavier foods will bear wider grill marks. I prefer the healthier 99% iron surface of the mineral pans. You have to use it frequently in order to prevent rust and maintain a nonstick black patina.

Cuisinart GR-11 Griddler 3-in-1 Grill and Panini Press

I often cook for one and have a lack of kitchen space so I have searched for something that works for sandwiches and as a mini-grill for some time. After trying some others that were lacking or settling for one that does one or the other I finally have what I wanted.

This has lots of great features.

-the non stick surface is actually non stick

We received this griddler a couple of weeks ago and have used it almost every day since because it makes an ordinary sandwich just so special and it takes only minutes! Also the ease of cleaning is a bonus because the griddle plates eject so nicely. We liked it so much we ordered one for our friends and they are thoroughly enjoying it also!! The Food Network has 50 Panini recipes and the sky is the limit on what you can put in your sandwiches and I suggest trying all different types of breads, what fun!

We like the size of it because we can make two hefty sandwiches with no problem; if you have a larger family you may want to consider a larger unit.

This is my third panini press purchase over the last 5 years. I have purchased two other panini products that did not have removable plates and were very difficult to clean. After a period of time I had to dispose of both because the food/grease buildup became excessive in spite of regular wiping down, scraping, and all other 'dry' methods of cleaning. This panini press heats up quickly, fits 2 sandwiches, and cleans thoroughly with both plates popping out with ease. My only complaint (and this has been an issue with all the panini presses I have owned) is that they heat at a higher rate in the back of the press so I have to flip the sandwiches for even cooking.

I highly recommend this product and will only buy removable plate products in the future!
