Camp Chef Weekender 2-Burner Stove 2012

Thank you Camp Chef Weekender!

My Coleman propane and white gas stoves and low BTU camper stove took ages to boil water at high altitude if at all and frankly just didn't have enough room to do much "serious" cooking. For me, good food makes a good camping trip.

Frustrated, I took a leap and bought a bigger "Yukon" sized 2 burner Camp Chef...Mistake. Great stove, it was just too big and too heavy for my purposes. Sadly, I returned it, but before I did I browsed through the Camp Chef catalog and lo and behold there it was...."The Weekender"...a suitcase style stove with cast iron burners with 30,000 BTU each and it looked to be built to take some abuse. I HAD TO HAVE IT! ...and thusly, the Weekender found it's way into my life and my camping meals have improved tremendously.

This stove goes with me every time we go camping...car camping with the Cub Scouts and with our pop-up camper, I even banished the stock camper stove to the attic and take the Weekender instead (you can buy and adapter hose to connect directly to your camper...Sweet!).

The Weekender puts off enough heat I was able to boil water in a 50 gallon galvanized stock tank. (Elk taxidermy project...don't ask)

If you are looking to buy, here's a couple of things to keep in mind...

1. Construction is steel and cast iron this is not a light weight stove

2. Cast iron griddle you probably need one...if you get one, buy a flame diffuser plate to go between the burner and the griddle to more evenly disburse the heat across the griddle. You will be happy you did.

3. Size. This stove is probably 3x larger(wider for sure and definitely taller) than a 2 burner Coleman camp stove. This stove doesn't run on the 1 lb green propane tanks. You will need to have a 5, 10 or 20 lb propane tank to use this. Not a problem but something to note.

4. Stove does not come with an igniter to light the burners but they can be added if you like.

The only to possible "cons" I have for this stove are minimal. 1. knobs are somewhat exposed and seem like they could be broken off if transit but I haven't had that happen. 2. Latches that hold the lid down and wind screens in place are sturdy but could latch a bit tighter. Minor nits.

Buy this stove with confidence and bring your outdoor kitchen up a level...or two!

Very good light and powerful unit... Maybe to hot a burner but it sure does it's job... We canned Salmon in the field in Alaska..

This is a great compact stove for tailgating or if you "camp" from a prairie whale or a popup. Excellent for community events like World Tai Chi day or the club or fire department picknick.

Unlike the burners on the Camp Chef Camping Outdoor Oven with 2 Burner Camping Stove (see my review) this will boil 2 quarts of water even in adverse conditions and do it quickly. It stays lit much better than the burners on the oven particularly when on high.

The Good:

Well made given the weight constraints.

The way the wind shield wings attach is much sturdier than most.

Puts out a lot of heat, even when turned down.

The legs attach with captive machine screws easily.

Folds up securely into a compact bundle with a suitcase handle.

Low legs make it easy to use on a picnic table or tailgate.

Captive wrench on the hose for the burner attachment.

If you take the regulator and hose off it and the legs stow inside the case.

The bad:

Puts out a lot of heat, even when turned down, finer control would be good.

Uses up propane quickly--well DUH!

Low legs mean uncomfortable bending unless it is set on something.

The ugly:

Puts out a lot of heat so sitting it directly on most things or close (

Chefman Sandwich Grill - Non-stick, Two Slice Capacity (Grey)

After almost 15 years of using my old sandwich grill, decided to buy a new one. Expected thenproduct would be moving up in quality and better performance but sadly was disappointed in both aspects. The sandwiches are not browned or crispy, come out rather flat. The metal in the grill and the clasp to bring in the grill together are both of poor quality and feel flimsy.

Lastly, the product looked used when delivered and not sure if it was a returned item that was shipped again. Not a good buy!

It is pretty good for the price BUT somewhat delicate. Some of its small parts coming off, while handling it.

I was looking for a cheap machine as I use it very rarely. I ordered this inspite of reading some bad reviews about the handle.

I must say that I am not disappointed. It works well .... make my sandwiches crispy, just the way I like it. The handle is not bad if you know how to 'handle' it. :)

Sandwich is not coming brown in color. Not much crispy as other sandwich makers I have used in the past.

But it is good for the price it is sold.

Charcoal Companion Monster Grill Cleaning Brush

This is the best, to date, brush I have used on my grill. The design is robust. The bristles are stainless and tough enough to dispense quickly with any residue on my grill. The knob on brush head is a great idea and grants you the extra elbow power needed for the stubborn grime. The hook is a good open desgn allowing to either be slotted into a hole or grate and yet has a big/long enough curve to be used on a portruding knob.

This was a real piece of junk. The first time we used it, it fell apart. We had wire bristles all over the place. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

This brush seemed alright for the first minute or two. Then the head began to melt and the bristles fell out. Had to use aluminum foil on the grill to cook so we didn't get bristles in the food... I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! I bought it at King Soopers.

This is a very well-designed brush. The knob you see on the brush head allows you to hold it with two hands. Not only for more power when needed, but for a lot more control, and for really getting the clean bristles at the correct angle. If you buy this you will never want a grill brush without this feature.

It works. The bristle heads are good quality and there is a metal scrapper on the end. If you use this when the grill is still hot, either after grilling or before putting your food down you will be very pleased. For me the best grill brush I have ever used. Recommended.

Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish,12 oz

I am a professional housekeeper and as such clean and polish a LOT of stainless steel appliances. One of my clients has this spray and it works much better than any other brand I have used. We have all SS appliances, and this works wonders! Returns the surface to factory finish quality. It works well with caked on dirt/food/water stains, gets them out no problem, and continues to polish. It works more like a traditional polisher and not just a cleaner. So you have to rub it with some elbow grease, and it takes a minute per area to get the polisher to really shine. I usually use two microfiber towels, one to wipe down the initial spot that cleans off the gunk, the second towel to go over each spot for about 30-60s to give it a good polish shine.

I can compare this directly to the WOW stainless steal cleaner. Which, I'm not sure what I'd classify that as. It's a lot thinner of a liquid, so it doesn't really seem to polish to a shine as well. What's even more upsetting is the WOW cleaner DOES NOT clean at all. We'll get water drip stains down the front of the fridge from the ice maker, and the WOW can't even get out a water stain/spot, let alone anything caked on. If your SS is already clean and you just want a real quick semi-shine then maybe WOW would be the go to product. Otherwise I'd recommend Weiman hands down, every time.

This is the only stainless cleaner I have tried other than commercial stuff for restaurant equipment. With a microfiber towel it does what it claims, which is clean and polish my new stainless steel fridge. IT is supposed to keep finger prints from showing and it kind of does help some but do not expect it to make your appliances smudge proof.... not going to happen. I find I wipe mine down almost daily with my microfiber towel but only use the spray cleaner once or twice a week.

So what can I say? It's a replacement brush head and it's the same as what's on the original product. I cannot tell any difference between it and the original. I've not worn it out like I did the original, but expect it to last at least 40 or so BBQ sessions. I typically clean before and after the grilling, so that gives you an idea of how long it should last. I scrub pretty hard. I didn't keep records, but I think this bush lasted about half again as long as the last generic brush head I had. Bristles have not come out after all my scrubbing either. Good product.

This is one tough grill brush. Not cheap but it will go the distance. I like the replacement brush option rather than throwing the whole thing away.

Cuisinart Outdoor Grilling Steak Thermometers, Set of Four

These thermometers seem to be essentially the same as others I've purchased in the past from different vendors. I wonder if they are all being OEMed from the same manufacturer but with different printing on the dials to customize them for the seller.

One thing that not all the sellers tell you (but Cusinart, to their credit, does in the included instructions) is that these thermometers are not safe to use on your grill in the manner you would expect and desire. Instead they make a big deal about them being dishwasher safe! What is not mentioned on the web page is that you must insert and immediately remove the thermometers once you've taken a reading. You are not supposed to leave them in the meat while it is on the grill and the lid is closed. Apparently these "Outdoor Grilling" thermometers can't take the heat in a grill. I have used another version of these sold under the Taylor brand without knowing about this restriction and they did indeed stop working after a few sessions of being left in the meat while it was grilling.

So, if you find it convenient to insert these thermometers into hot steaks and them remove them (they are also now hot) after a minute or so then you might find them handy. And this particular set of 4 I purchased was reasonably accurate or at least consistent (three read essentially the same in 140 degree water and one was a slight bit low but probably still useable for this application)

I wish I could find somemone who made a grill thermometer that could actually stand up to the heat in a charcoal or propane grill. If that's what you were looking for, then you might want to keep looking...

I rated these thermometers 1 star but would prefer to rate them no stars, if Amazon would let me, since the gauges didn't even move. We had steaks on the grill and we knew they were near done. Put the Cuisinart steak thermometers in them and after 30 second no reading. We put our old digital fork type thermometer in them and they were done. Go figure? These steak thermometers aren't even worth the time you spend thinking about buying them. Horrible product!

Used these twice just to make sure. The temp does not reflect the doneness of the meat. Thermometer read MW and the meat was still rare.

I wish there was a ZERO rating!

These thermometers all show a different temperature with my hot water test. (So..which one is correct)?

They are very slow to attain their temperature reading, so while you are waiting for the reading, your steak will already be in the next done-ness state.

NOT GOOD, but I suppose you could develop a future temperature prediction plan.

When a NAME BRAND like Cuisinart moves to CHINA, expect the worse possible quality.

I can't think of anything to do with these things except toss 'em.
