Disney DCM-1 Classic Mickey Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless Steel

Disney DCM-1 Classic Mickey Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless SteelWe ordered this waffle maker for my 10 year old son who enjoys having belgian waffles when we go on vacation at the hotels. I wasn't sure if I should get this waffle maker or not because it's not your traditional waffle maker design, but we have 3 boys, 10, 12, and 14 and while they are getting a little older my wife and I thought it would be fun to make Mickey waffles and could always invest in something else later on if we really tired of it. The waffle maker is very easy to clean due to the non stick surface. Everything peals off easily with a wooden spatula or fork. The outside gets very hot during cooking, but the handle stays very cool so make sure to only touch it by the handle when cooking. We just started using this and for startes purchased generic pancake/waffle mix from the super market, using a very popular common brand of mix. When you plug it in, you will see a blue light that turns red when hot and alternates between red and blue as it works to maintain an even temparature. With the store bought mix the pancakes take only 1 minute to cook and are light golden brown. Leaving the mix in even 10 more seconds will darken the outside considerably, but not burn and the waffles come out delicious in either case. Very quick to cook and super easy to use. The waffle maker feels very durable. The waffles are fluffy. I'm not sure if it's the particular mix we are using which is really more for pancakes, but ours came out tasting like pancakes and not crunchy on the outside. I'm sure this will vary depending on the particular mix you use. We love this waffle maker and would recommend to others, although seems hard to find at a reasonable price nowadays. I'd seen it advertised for half the price we purchased at, but it was sold out at that price and all places I looked for charged about the same as Amazon did. I purchased for less elsewhere however. I could not find a single review on line anywhere so i'm adding this one. Hopefully it helps others. This will make fluffy waffles, I can't say if it will make crunchy ones or not as I have not yet tried enough mixes to know for sure.

Here's the thing this does not make a legit waffle. It is a thick pancake. If your kid realy wants a Mickey imprint it does the trick and tastes ok. The only other problem is there is no setting, the thing is just on full blast. So it gets hotter and hotter, the waffles cook faster as you make each next one and eventually it will make a crisp outside and underdone inside. So you might have to turn off and restart. Most people who buy this I assume have had a Mickey Waffle in Disney World, where they are awesome. This is not that. I'm not sure why they can make a decent waffle iron that also has Mickey's face, I mean it is 2012, we do have the technology. I would gladly pay an extra $20 to have a legit waffler. This is why you see people selling the old style Mickey Waffle Irons for $100-300 used. Which I believe one of those versions was recalled. I really don't want to burn my house down to make a decent Mickey waffle. So I'll continue to make these because my kids love Mickey's face, but I long for a legit waffle iron that cooks easily and also features Mickey's face.

Not sure how the new Mickey Mouse waffle iron could be so different than the model before, but this one was designed in a way that you cannot cook the entire waffle... so if you like eating doughy Mouse ears, please buy this one.

We have purchased, many years ago, three of the Mickey's Waffle maker for ourselves and our one child's family. Our 16 grandkids love the Mickey Waffles. Our first one wore out and we found you didn't make them anymore, but found one on line from VillaWare in Canada. Since we travel to all 5 of our children's home with the Waffle maker, we decided, since we saw this one on line, to buy one for our New Jersey family. When it came, we saw it was a little different than the original and our others. It is smaller and makes thinner waffles. Therefore we feel it is just "Okay" and not as great as the original. The grand kids were Ok with it, but said they liked our original one much better.

Waffles tasted more like pancakes. Was very disappointed. Expected a light and airy waffle. Waffles were soggy and doughy even after several different recipes

Outset QN77 Copper Colored Nonstick Grill Skillet with Removable Soft-Grip Handle

Outset QN77 Copper Colored Nonstick Grill Skillet with Removable Soft-Grip HandleThe surface is truly non-stick and that is impressive considering I use it on the grill. It is very nice to cook something like onions or shrimp on the grill and not have them fall thru the grates. The removable handle is great as I have a small grill and could not cover a pan with a handle. I highly recommend this.

I got this pan for my dad for father's day, and he loves it! It works better than a similar grill tray he has, cooks evenly, and it's also a breeze to clean. The handle is a room saving device that easily attaches/detaches from the pan with hooks similar to peg board clips for flexible transfers. The pan is also large enough to hold veggies or fish for a group of four to six. I recommend this product.

This is NOT a copper skillet, it is copper colored. I would guess it is made from steel, you can check this out using a magnet (copper is a non-magnetic metal). Do like the nonstick finish however.

The first time we used the product the "copper" paint peeled and it was hard to get the fish off of the pan.

Non-stick -I don't think so. I was forced to give it one star

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto Grill

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto GrillThe family and I were taking a road trip through New Mexico when I got that sudden and familiar urge: I need ham. I had my wife Laura grab a nice, thick ham steak from the cooler at her feet. She offered to grill it for me, as I was driving at all, but in my family there's only one person that handles the grill, and that is me. My daughter Layla and my son Cody said they wanted hot dogs, so I threw them on the grill too.

Despite having different meat products, the Koolatron was cooking the ham and hot dogs evenly, and there was so much space I could have put another dog on there. I took my ham steak off first and it was really good: the Koolatron allowed the meat to retain much of its moisture and succulence.

Unfortunately, just as I was giving the hot dogs one final turn, I lost control of my vehicle, on I-40 about 30 miles west of Tucumcari. I don't remember much of the accident, just waking up in a hospital bed a few days later. It was then that I learned that Layla and Cody did not survive the crash. Laura was relatively unscathed, with only a broken leg and some broken ribs. I suffered burns over 40% of my body and had internal bleeding.

I got out of the hospital three weeks later. Laura and I decided to sell our home, as it held too many painful memories. It was bad. Laura and I found we couldn't live together, and recently divorced. The loss of the kids had a lot to do with it, but I could also not please her (my genitals had been burned off in the fire). I'm trying to date again, but it's been hard (as mentioned, I have no genitals it's like a Ken doll down there, but with the skin complexion of Freddy Kreuger).

However, once given the doctor's ok to operate a motor vehicle, I purchased another Koolatron and I can tell you that I've been happy with the (non-family destroying) results. Every time I cook something while driving a ham steak, hot dog, burger, etc it come out delicious and juicy. Of course, I'm no dummy and realize that another accident is just around the corner. But at this point, I don't even care anymore. I don't even care anymore.

PROS: lots of room, food retains moisture and doesn't dry out, durable

CONS: subsequent loss of family, genitals

I work for a utility company and I work out in the field. So I spend about $250 a month on lunch usually fast food or at a diner depending on the area I am at. Then I came across this grill. I thought wow I could to save some money using this grill. Got the grill followed the instruction and the hot plates were only warm to the touch. I did not even try to cook with it because it was just not hot enough.

For centuries, man has longed for the ability to cook while driving. With the advent of the Koolatron 401-596 (I can only imagine the countless hours focus groups must have logged to come up with that name), that dream has finally become a reality.

No longer constrained to the physical boundaries of a 'kitchen', or the archaic mores of 'safety', one can finally enjoy the freedom of careening down the highway at 85 mph (please check with your local municipality for the legality of these speeds) while grilling various meat products. And what of the oils from said meat products? Why, the sloped design allows them to just melt away into the (included) drip tray! What could be safer than hot grease in a moving vehicle? Certainly, no one has ever spilled anything liquid in a car before! Safe as milk, it is!

So free yourself from the tyranny of non-mobile cooking today with a Koolatron 401-596.

Apparently this product hasn't gotten any better in the three years since the previous gentleman review it. I purchased this for my fiance who is a truck driver. I was hoping this would provide him a way of cooking meat/grilling sandwiches, but it only gets hot enough to melt the butter on the bread. Obviously, it wouldn't get hot enough to cook a piece of raw meat. It's being returned. Very disappointed.

Camp Chef Wireless Thermometer

Camp Chef LTRM Wireless Thermometer with ProbeWe got this for Christmas two years ago and it has given us many a good meal. We've had one problem, the batteries are on the bottom and tend to eventually drop out of their placement which cuts power to the base. I just push them back in again and I'm in business. Otherwise, everything has worked fine.

I have had two of these they both have broken. The thermometer probe can't handle the temp of normal grilling even on my grill's lowest setting. The temps ruin the probe.

Buy Camp Chef Wireless Thermometer Now

I did not buy mine on Amazon... I purchased it at a grocery store for $17.

I have seen people say it worked once, then stopped working. This was my experience too... But being an engineer, I want to fix things rather than give up. Turns out that there is a slight flaw in the design in that the unit requires fresh batteries in the hand-held unit after about 1 to 2 cooks. I use mine for monitoring the air temp inside my smoker, rather than inserting it into the meat.

Since I don't use it the exact way it was meant to be used, I don't use all of the features. I don't like the way it works 100%, but that is mostly because I am using it in a way other than what it was intended. I cook things like brisket, and I may have the smoker going for as long as 24 hours, so for me it is about keeping the smoker at a low temperature... And I'm not cooking till the meat is done, I'm cooking till the meat is ready to fall apart, which is more about a long an low cook than it is about the internal temperature of the meat (the meat temp counts too, but the cooking temp is important to keep controlled).

The beeping alarm is too high-pitched for me to hear, so my wife has to tell me when it is going off... But for the most part the purpose is so that I can keep an eye on the temperature, without running outside every half hour.

As for the "it worked once then nothing" problem, what I notice is that the hand-held unit needs fresh batteries to work... I mean really fresh. When it stops working, it can't pick up the transmitted signal. The batteries are still good, just not "good enough". It probably won't work on rechargable batteries, as rechargables run at a lower voltage. I checked the voltage drop of the batteries when it is running, and it didn't seem to be drawing too much current, seemed like it should be good for months. The problem is that as soon as the voltage of the batteries drop below the "brand-new" state even a little, the unit looses it's range. This kind of sucks, but once I understood the cost of using it is that I must use fresh batteries each time, I decided I could live with that... I spend $60 on meat, $20 on various other things like spices, veggies and charcoal... I can live with spending another dollar on batteries.

the current consumption is low enough that if you could figure out how to add another half-volt to the voltage of the battery, you could probably only change batteries every few months.

It has a flashlight built into the hand-held unit... Don't use it if you want your battery to last.

I can see this being a 2 star unit for most people...if they know it just needs batteries... One star for those that think it is dead when it really just needs new batteries. I bought this to replace a $40 unit I bought at the same store that worked fine, but I didn't like it at all (the remote displayed the cook timer, but not the temperature, only the base had the temp, the remote had an alarm and a timer... LAME). So I'm really happy with this unit despite the weakness of needing fresh batteries with each use, thus the 4 stars.

The base unit seems to not need fresh batteries constantly, but your experience may vary.

I didn't buy Camp Chef LTRM Wireless Thermometer with Probe last fall because of some of the reviews I read here. Instead, I bought the maverick thermometerMaverick Remote Smoker Dual Probe Wireless Thermometer ET-73, which is a disaster. The maverick probes are unbelievably very poor quality. I had 6 fail in 2 months (and I was babying them because I had been warned of their poor quality shame on me). The Maverick was a total waste of money.

I met the Camp Chef product manager at the national hardware show a few weeks ago. I told him about some of the issues I had seen written up. He told me they have made some modifications to improve the battery issue and more importantly, to change their probe design by giving it extra "armor" (much heavier mesh and insulation around the probe wires) to make the probes more durable. I talked him into giving my partner and me each one of the new models. I have used it about 8 times already and my partner has use his about 20 times (he is a true smoker fanatic) with zero issues, so it seems they have beaten most of the quality challenges mentioned by others.

The only minor issue I still note is that the alarm tone is at such a high pitch that I can't hear it (nor can my partner), but my wife and children can. I don't care, but it drives my kids crazy (not necessarily a bad thing...)

I will continue to monitor performance and I will post an update if I have issues.

Optimus F-0645S 6-Inch 2-Speed Convertible Personal Clip-On/Table Fan, White

Optimus F-0645S 6-Inch 2-Speed Convertible Personal Clip-On/Table Fan, WhiteReally, I'm not unrealistic. I know that lower prices normally mean an equal decline in quality. But this was too much. One of the fans hums but doesn't turn (returned this one). Two others had the on/off switch knocked back into the casing--I had to disassemble these and glue them (even before plugging them in!). I am sure you can find somewhere better to spend $10 and cool off.

This fan was awful and didn't work out of the box, as follows:

The off/hi/lo switch wasn't installed right and kept falling into the housing when you tried to use it

The lo setting didn't even work

Upon looking into it, the wiring for the lo setting wasn't even hooked up!

Conclusion: Looks like someone assembled this in their garage. The wiring wasn't soldered and just held together with electrical tape. This fan is great if you just wanna throw away $10! I suppose you get what you pay for.

This is an inexpensive fan that clips on instead of standing on a flat surface. It works and it looks ok and fits on my shower curtain rod where we attach it and run it after showers to keep the mold and mildew down. The only problem I have encounter is the switch became detached an fell inside the fan housing. We were able to retrieve it and re-attach it and it seems to be fine now. Minor flaw for someone that doesn't mind making repaires to equipement but might be major to someone that doesn't have this skill.

It's a good fan for the price, but Amazon can't compete with local supermarkets and other stores. Turns out that this EXACT same fan is available under other brand names. I found a second one at my local supermarket for $10 marked as "Cool-Breeze" brand.

As another reviewer mentioned, the switch fell in on mine as well, but after removing a single Philips screw to get inside, it was easy to clip the switch back into place and it works fine. I would guess that it was never seated properly, because once I re-seated it, it's very sturdy and isn't going to fall in any time soon.

The fan is powered by a standard wall outlet and has a Hi/Lo/Off switch on the back. Comes with a table stand and a clip (can be swapped out with a thumbscrew). It has 360 degree rotation in one direction and can tilt up and down nearly 90, so you can cover just about every direction.

Check your local stores to see if they have the same one for a competitive price.

UPDATE: It's a piece of crap. I have two of these fans and they bother broke the same way. The plastic spring-clip snapped right through. I've rigged both of them up with coathangers and tape so that they clip again, but if I ever buy another clip fan, I will make sure it has a metal clip.

Want Optimus F-0645S 6-Inch 2-Speed Convertible Personal Clip-On/Table Fan, White Discount?

The fan was cheap so you really can't expect awhole lot. It works pretty well but has to be right near you in order for you to feel it. The front part of the part that is suppose to clip to things broke in half about a week and half after I started using it. So it is definitly made cheap but if your looking for something inexpensive and handy, I would recommend this just make sure you are gentle with it and make sure you don't clip it too something that is too wide or it will break like mine did.

Lodge Logic LJSCP3 Jumbo Chef's Platter, 12-inch by 15-inch

Lodge Logic LJSCP3 Jumbo Chef's Platter, 12-inch by 15-inchLet me start off by saying that I'm an unabashed fan of cooking with cast iron cookware and Lodge cast iron in particular.

Having used the Lodge Pro Logic pizza pan from over a year to make roast potatoes (thin skin red, fingerling, little gourmet potatoes, cut to roughly same size, liberally tossed in olive oil, Rosemary, Oregano, a dash of red wine vinegar, 450 degrees, 20 minutes then flip with spatula or tongs, roast another 20 minuts or until soft).

The possibility of roasting all kinds of veggies arises. I bought this pan to serve as a spill over pan when I had too many veggies on the pizza pan (a little space around the roasted veggies helps).

Alas, it perfectly fits 1/2 of my gas grill, I'm now thinking about roasted veggies in the summer without running a high temperature oven in the summer. I'll also use this for family style fajitas.

Like all Lodge the quality is great. The 12" X 15" dimensions are outer dimensions, with the inner dimensions being about 12"-10", 10-14" at the wide point.

When you buy this remember it is a heavy pan that will get heavier when full of food. Be in the habit of picking up a pot holder when you move towards a pan. This pan will hold the heat from the oven. Be prepared to still have your food warm on the coolest winter days when you go back for seconds, or even when it comes time to clean up.

Lodge makes a smaller version of this pan, I"m not sure if it's on Amazon yet. The smaller version has a wood liner available, but there is no liner available for the jumbo platter.

The Lodge Chef's Platter can certainly be used as a serving platter. Warm it slightly in an oven to keep hot hors d'oeuvres warm. Chill it in a refrigerator for an hour before serving a relish tray or meat and cheese tray so those items stay colder longer.

The versatility comes from its ability to be used in the oven, on the stove top, or on the grill. Preheat it for 15-20 minutes in the oven and put on french fries, sweet potato fries, pizza, veggies, chicken strips, or anything else. The food comes out crispy with a perfectly thin "crust". No more soggy baked french fries!

For the bakers, this also works well for Italian bread. Pre-heat it and you'll get a nice crispy crust that works very well with Italian bread.

What originally drew me to the platter was its flat bottom (save for the small Lodge logo cast into it). The flat bottom means it can work effectively on a glass or ceramic smooth-top electric stove. You must give the platter adequate time to pre-heat when using it on a stovetop. Due to its size and slow-heating nature, it will take a good 10-20 minutes for the edges to heat up on a smooth-top stove (longer than my 12" Lodge skillet). If you don't, you'll have a big hot spot in the middle. Depending on the size of your stove and the configuration of your burners, you may be able to get the platter to fit across two burners.

Once your platter is pre-heated on the stove top, it works very well as a smooth griddle for pancakes, eggs, fried rice, grilled cheese, paninis, and everyone's favorite food: bacon.

Take the platter outside and put it on your gas or charcoal grill. It will prevent smaller items from falling between the grates. It also won't let flames to directly contact the food which can be good if whatever your cooking is somewhat delicate or has a tendency to catch fire.

The platter does come preseasoned from the factory. However, in my experience, it is a bit weak and needs a bit of help. My process for building up the seasoning on a new pan, or giving a boost to used ones is to warm the piece on the stovetop and lightly coat it with vegetable (soybean) oil or vegetable shortening. I then place the piece in a 500-degree oven (upside-down so excess oil won't pool) for one hour. After the hour is up, I turn the oven off and leave the piece in there until it is cool. This process will create smoke, so be sure to turn your range hood on and/or open a window.

The only negative to this pan is its size. The cooking surface is less than 12x15 probably closer to 10x13. Lodge needs to make a 15x20 version to fully occupy two burners on a typical stove.

The standard warnings about cast iron apply to this platter: it's heavy, it takes time to heat up and cool down, it's not dishwasher safe, it will rust if you scour it and soak it, and you shouldn't use soap or detergent on it.

I use cast iron pretty much exclusively at this point, so I purchased two of these platters to replace cookie sheets. They're great! I don't normally love Lodge's pre seasoning, but these pans really were non-stick upon arrival (not that that stopped me from applying my own coat of seasoning anyway...).

Size-wise they're great as well. I've used them to bake cookies (each platter holds 9 good-sized cookies), make fries for two people (two large potatoes worth), bake two personal-size thin crust pizzas (I choose these over my pizza stone for ease of use), and warm cheesy, gooey nachos. In all those applications, nothing ever stuck to the platters, they wiped clean with just paper towel, and I was able to store them easily. I definitely recommend you get one or two of these!

George Foreman Grilling in Hot Metals

George Foreman Grilling in Hot Metals, SilverWe used a George Foreman Champ model grill for a year before dropping and breaking it. We replaced it with the George Foreman Grilleration model. Since there already so many reviews of the Champ here's a comparison of the Champ versus the similar, but larger, George Foreman Next Grilleration:

Cleaning: The Grilleration grilling plates come off and go on easily, and cleaning them in the sink or dishwasher is a breeze. The base unit doesn't even get dirty! The Champ has fixed plates and the unit can't be submerged, so cleaning is much more difficult.

Cooking area: Grilleration: 72 sq. in., large enough for 4 hamburgers.; Champ 42 sq. in., large enough for 2 hamburgers.

Fat dripping: Both units drip into the provided tray with no leaking out the back or sides.

Floating hinges: Floating hinges on both units allow varying thicknesses of food to be held tight on the top and bottom.

Weight: Although the Grilleration can be hefted with one hand (if you have big hands), it's much larger and heavier than the light and petite Champ.

Thermometer & temperature control: Neither unit has these, but they aren't needed for most things. Price is lower as a result.

Both units offer an easy, fast, and inexpensive method to cook many foods: (chicken breasts, burgers, hot-dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, etc.).

Taste of cooked hamburgers & chicken: The first time we used a Grilleration to cook hamburgers, we put them on when the temperature light said the grill was hot (around the 7 minute mark), as per the instructions. Instead of grilling the burgers, it slow-cooked them. We suspected this was happening, since there was no "sizzle" sound while cooking. The worst of it was, the burgers had almost no taste, as though they had been baked. Next time, we let the grill heat up for a full 15 minutes before putting the meat on. The plates got much hotter, and, as a result, the burgers sizzled. They also tasted much better.

Even pre-heating for 15 minutes, this Grilleration doesn't get as hot as the Champ. The Champ is ready to start in 7 minutes and cooks faster (because it runs hotter). The Grilleration doesn't stay as hot during the cooking cycle as does the Champ, especially if the grilling plates are covered with food (e.g., 4 hamburgers). This is easily discernable as the "sizzle sound" dies out as the cooking progresses. There are two reasons why the Champ gets hotter:

1. The Next Grilleration heating coils heat the sealed base unit, and transfers heat to the removable grilling plates, which are touching the base unit. The Champ system is more efficient, as its heating coils directly heat the non-removable plates.

2. The 760 watt Champ cooking area is 42 square inches, or 18 watts per sq. inch. The 1000 watt Next Grilleration cooking area is 72 square inches, or 14 watts per sq. inch. (That's 1000 claimed watts. According to my Kill-a-Watt meter, the Grilleration actually draws 955 watts.)

The Grilleration would need to be in the 1400 watt range to cook as hot as the Champ.

Summary of important differences:

Foods needing high heat to grill taste better with the hotter operating Champ model.

Champ's cooking area is 42 sq. in. versus 72 sq. in. for the Grilleration.

The Champ is a pain to clean since you can't submerge the base unit, whereas cleaning the Grilleration plates is simple.

Recommendation:

If taste is most important, get the Champ model, or, if it's too small, buy two Champs (for less money than one Grilleration).

If ease of cleaning is most important, buy a Grilleration or other [larger] unit with removable grilling plates.

My reasons for buying this grill may greatly differ from most. I've been on the Atkins diet for 4 months now, and I always seem to be cooking small steaks and sausages. The problem I encountered was that I was constantly cleaning the oven, and my wife was always complaining about the grease splats on the oven door.

This product allowed me to cook my meat quickly, and with less of a mess. I can also take the grill to work when I have a late shift and cook up a quick steak or piece of chicken. While it doesn't hold a lot of meat, it's great for my uses. I hope this helps you.

Buy George Foreman Grilling in Hot Metals Now

What I really love about this grill is that it sears and cooks burgers, chicken cutlets, steaks, etc. evenly and within a short period of time. The lid automatically allows for thicker cuts of meat (I think up to 1" thickness) and is variable in its height adjustment, which is an excellent and useful feature.

The lid prevents any spattering of liquids or fats which are directed to empty into the plastic fat rendering container provided. Since there is a small output of smoke during grilling, I just place the grill on a thick wooden cutting board, on the stovetop (obviously with the burners in the off position) and with the stovetop hood on to remove smoke and odors; it's pretty effective.

Cleanup is relatively simple due to the grill's nonstick surface and takes just a few minutes. This model is quite small, compact and lightweight, making it easy to store. The surface area is large enough to grill two burgers at a time. I use it often and highly recommend it.

Read Best Reviews of George Foreman Grilling in Hot Metals Here

I have had the George Foreman for a while... while it is a convenient tool, it is good only for chicken and fish. The heater plates don't get hot enough to make a good steak that is seared on the outside but rare on the inside. It causes almost uniform cooking through the thickness of the meat. For the same reason it has a tendency to dry out chicken and fish.. but that being said, if you baste sufficiently, reasonably moist chicken and fish can be cooked.

If you are serious about cooking/grilling indoors invest in a cast iron skillet...

It's one of those items that people think is a hoax-a hack, but amazingly it's one of those items that works. The fact that you can get a brand new one for $15 is amazing. Sometimes you can even get a brand new one on Amazon for 10 that's crazy go nuts!

It is my recommendation by one of these grills and make grilled cheese. It's amazing, done in less than seven minutes, or try a frozen chicken breast from frozen to juicy and done in less than 10 minutes. Perfect for bachelors or moms with bachelors in training or moms married to bachelors. You get the point.

So give it a shot perfect in what it does. I liked it so much upgrade to a larger size (know I didn't buy the company), and I use it everyday.

And yes I do know that he has six children named George crazy go nuts
