Looks like a double burner, cast iron, indoor grill cooking tool. And it is just that. Not pre-seasoned, but I prefer to do my own seasoning myself anyway. This grill pan is solid cast iron, long enough to cover completely the two burners on one side of my electric stove, and does what I want it to do--cook meats, fish and vegetables indoors with less fat. Does it really "grill" them? No, but it's not the fault of this particular pan. If you want real grilling, use a barbeque. Obviously you don't get that smokey flavor from this. But if you want to cook a steak or some onions and peppers for a fajita and you can't or don't want to fire up the barbeque, this will do a good job, searing the food where it touches it but not sauteing or frying it. It also uses a lot less energy than an oven, and takes less time.

I've found two downsides of grill pans. First, since it's not designed to be used with much, if any, fat, some foods will stick. I've had some problems cooking fish; when it comes time to flip or remove a salmon fillet, you may find yourself scraping vigorously with a spatula to avoid leaving that nice crust behind, stuck to the pan, even though you've brushed the fish with oil first. This may change eventually, if the pan gets thoroughly seasoned from use. (Of course, the alternative is a non-stick version, but no, thank you.)

Second, be sure you have a hood fan that works well, or a very well ventilated kitchen, or your house will likely fill with smoke. Putting a cover (or upside-down pot) over it may help.

But these issues are inherent with grill pans. This particular model is well designed and well made and reasonably priced. It's solid without weighing a ton, and I've had no problem with warping or cracking. It has a flat griddle on the other side, useful for pancakes or, for those who like them fried, burgers. Being cast iron, it should be washed without soap (so it maintains seasoning) and dried thoroughly before storage (or it will rust).

I have Lodge skillets and they are great. However, this griddle is poorly manufactured. I am wondering if the business that sold it to me purchased them as factory rejects. There are pinholes (for lack of a better word) in the cast iron, a dent in the griddle top, and the entire surface is quite rough, especially on the grill side. I would have returned it, however when I ordered it I didn't notice that it came from a non-Amazon supplier and thus I would have to pay for shipping costs to send it back. It weighs over 10 pounds so it costs almost as much to return it as I paid for it. I'll use it for a boat anchor or a prop under my car when I put up jack stands to work underneath the vehicle. Alternately, if you saw the movie "Tangled" you understand what I mean when I say that it would also work well as a Rapunzel pan.

I recieved the package in a very timly manner. It was packed very well. Came with all hardware needed to do the swap. The only issue I had was that the ignitor mounting bracket didnt fit on the burner very well. It seems on the replacement they combined the ignitor bracket mounting holes with the holes used to secure the down pipes to the burner. The OE didnt have removable down tubes and only had the holes needed to secure the ignitor mount. When they combined the purpouse of the hole it seems that the hole is in a slightly different spot and requires mounting it at a slight angle. Use of the ignitor requires several pushes before getting a good light. Whereas before it always lit the first time. This may be from other circumstances, not sure. Either way the product along with some new briquetts has made my grill new again! Product works great, nice to not burn food anymore with a burner that leaks out the top. Probably get another 5 years of grilling from it. If you lay the briquetts out well it makes a very even heat source.

Cons: No screen over air/fuel mixing ports. (bugs can get up in there and affect the mixture.) Fitment of ignitor mounting bracket a little off.

Pros:

Great product, cheap, even burn, came with all extra hardware needed. Installed fast and easy.

I made the mistake of trying a generic burner from Lowes. Such a mistake. A little extra research provided better information to enable an Amazon search to find this burner for me.It's an exact replacement for the original burner in this very old grill.Works perfectly and I could not be happier. Holmes Ultra-Quiet Dual Ceramic Heater with 1-Touch Electronic Thermostat, HCH4953

I've had this heater as the only heat source in my 10X15 ft. office through two Florida winters. It puts out plenty of heat on "low," and is so quiet that I don't know whether it's on or off without looking. The only problem, sadly a big one, is that the thermostat only sets in 5 degree increments and allows too much heat variation before it turns on, so I'm always a little too hot or too cold. I'm thinking of replacing it with one of the competing Lasko ceramic heaters. A friend has one, and it seems to be just as quiet and efficient as the Holmes, but does a better job of maintaining a stable temperature. I have waited and waited for Holmes to come out with a ceramic heater just like this one but with a better thermostat, but I guess this isn't going to happen. Oh, well.

Holmes makes an excellent compact and portable ceramic space heater that really gives off a lot of heat than my older one does! Moreover, the unit is very lightweight and easy to carry although of course I wouldn't carry it while it's working or just after it's been shut off.

The heater is reasonably priced as of the time I am writing this and I sure hope that Holmes continues to make these; I would like to get one for my father. The unit is completely quiet--in fact it's so quiet that you'll never know that it's there unless you see it. It rapidly provides a good amount of heat to areas like bedrooms and offices.

This heater by Holmes is best used for spaces that are roughly 100 square feet or slightly more; I wouldn't depend on it to heat several rooms or a combination living room/dining room all at once. For that you'll either need more than one of these space heaters or you'll have to use this unit along with your central heat or oil heat, whatever you have.

I also like that the unit turns itself off automatically of it should accidentally tip over. That's good protection against fire or ugly marks on your carpeting that could be tough to remove.

If you look at the fourth picture of the unit at the top of this page, you can see for yourself the way you can control the temperature. You get "on" and "off" buttons; and there are five specific temperatures from which to choose. You can adjust the temperature a bit more simply by pushing the "hi" and "lo" buttons. Great!

Again, this is one awesome space heater that's more than worth the current price. I highly recommend it.

I just ordered two more of these units. We've been using them for the last five years or so and love them! We need more because we keep giving them away to our kids, who ask for them specifically. They run quieter and put out more heat (double ceramic heater) than any other fan driven area heater we've ever used. We also love the thermostat features and tip-over shut off. I don't think Holmes is making this model any more and it's a shame. I thought I better get a few more while I can.

I have to say I've enjoyed my unit. It's the only heat I've had in my large north-east exposure, 2nd floor bedroom over a 2-car garage and still kept it toasty warm. We've had cold weather much more snow than we've ever had at one time and it's been a great little heater. I doubt the thermostat is correct ... I just adjust it up or down as needed. So glad I got it. The 2 Laskos I had were very loud and ineffective. They stopped after only a couple of weeks and not during our coldest weather. This has been very quiet and I really like it. I bought mine from Amazon, and now I see it's sold by a vendor I won't use at $11 higher price than I paid. I bought mine mid-December 2009.

It's been safe to have around my small dog and my 2 yr. old grand-daughter. I would buy it again if Amazon is the vendor and it is a reasonable price.

I hate being cold.

Update (3-28-10) It suddenly quit. Not sure why yet. The temperature can still get cold so I'm not happy. Like another reviewer said it turns itself off no matter what. So what's up with that? It's been about the same 4 month time frame as the other reviewer mentioned. Have to figure something to do about it. Not too sure I would give it the same rating now. I hate being cold.

Update 04-01-10 Discovered that the heater melted the plastic outlet on the heavy duty extension cord I had to use because of the heater's short cord. At first it looked like the heater plug had arc-welded itself to the extension cord. But instead it melted everything inside the extension cord outlet. Thank gooness it was the only thing on that extension cord and the only thing plugged into that wall socket. We thought after prying it loose from (and destroying) the extension cord that the heater was fine since its plug looked normal. But something's changed the prongs, and it won't plug in anywhere.

So lesson learned don't use even heavy duty extension cords (even with a built-in breaker and being the only item plugged into it and only thing plugged into the wall socket). I don't trust this heater enough to buy another of it's kind. I feel fortunate it didn't catch my house on fire.

Just bought my second one. Very quiet and quickly heats the room. (If you start having problems with it prematurely turning off, remove the reusable air filter in the back of the unit and rinse it with water, and voilà, the unit works again!)

I had previously reviewed this product with one-start for falling apart all the time. After contacting the company, I was advised to turn the floor of the container over. I did. It solved the problem. The parts fit together much more securely. So give this a shot.

The construction is a bit unorthodox as there are no screws that hold it together but once it is together, I was able to pick it up and move it without any issues. When putting on the side pieces I noticed that there are two pins that need to go into holes of the front and back panels. You can force the box together without making sure the pins go into the holes which would probably make for a sloppy fit. I imagine that is what happened with the people who's box fell apart.

Overall, this is a great box and they have accessories for it also. I am using it to hold hot tub and grill supplies.

We use this out on the deck to store hot tub items as well as patio furniture covers and it works great. Living in the Seattle area we tend to get a bit of rain and it keeps everything dry as can be. Great product!

We have a pool area with a whole bunch of Rubbermaid storage products, most a few years old or more. They've been great with no wear or fading so when we wanted to replace a non-Rubbermaid deck box we bought two of the 5f21 model.

I have to say I was disappointed to see some of the changes since my older models. One of the units left larger gaps where the modular pieces fit together, large enough that I felt water would get in. This unit also came with scratches on the front panel and was missing the plastic strips which are designed to keep the lid from exceeding 90 degrees when opened. Interestingly, the other unit assembled snuggly without any gaps.

My main gripe with the new design is the lid can no longer just snap closed to the main compartment anymore, instead just resting loose on top. There are matching loops to attach a lock, which I strongly suggest you slip something into to keep that lid on in a good wind. I can't figure out why they felt compelled to remove such a simple feature.

I just got my Rubbermaid deck box today.

It was fairly simple to put together, but I did have to look at the instructions (on the side of the box) to figure out the little strap/screw arrangement.

The only problem I had was that my hammer didn't fit in the space to hit the hinge pegs into the lid. So I hit it with the side of a wrench. Problem solved.

I'll report back after a rain storm to see if it's watertight, but I've had the Rubbermaid slide-lid storage shed for years (keeps lawn mower, gardening stuff, bikes) and it has been wonderful! The inside doesn't get wet in rain. So I am fairly confident that the deck box, similar in construction, will be fine.

7-12-09 -Update

We had a huge rainstorm last night. Today I checked inside the deck box. Chair pads--dry. Charcoal -dry. Misc stuff---dry.

This box works for me!
