Iwatani Torch Burner Professional #Cb-tc-pro

I've only been using it for a few days now, so if it falls apart in the next few months, I'll amend my review.

I primarily use this for Sous Vide cooking, which requires most meats to be seared when they are done cooking. When you are making 5-10 steaks at a time, and want to serve all of your guest at once, a reliable torch that works fast is a must.

I had been using a propane torch ($12 at Lowe's) and finally got tired of the flame-outs and uneven burn. Let me say, this torch is awesome. It puts off way more heat than the propane torch, does not flame out no matter how fast you move it or what angle you hold it at. I bought the GasOne 12-pack of butane cans (about $2 per can with shipping included), and a dinner of 5 steaks seemed to use about 10-15 percent of a fuel can.

Its very hot, and has a nice wide flame, resulting in fewer passes when torching a steak.

Pros:

-Cheap Fuel

-Steady, Hot, Wide flame

-Adjustable flame intensity

-Big. It sits well in the hand with a fuel can attached

-Trigger for lighting the flame. No lighter or sparker required

-Trigger does not control fuel flow. I thought this would be bad at first, but it would actually be a pain to have to hold the trigger down for extended use

Cons:

It didn't come with a Ferrari.

Great torch with power. The flame is around 22 cm when full throttle. I use it for cooking (creme brulee, searing beef, charring eggplants for Middle Eastern food, grilling skin side of fish fillets for interesting Japanese touch) and it works perfectly. Just remember to adjust the flame so it is a sharp blue. If the flame is yellow the combustion is incomplete and some of the gas particles will deposit on your food item. No matter what, there will be a slight residue taste using this torch. I think of it being part of the torched taste now. The torch clips on really easily on a small gas canister and off you go. The build of the item is very good. I believe it is made in Japan.

Other uses:

Emergency gas hob. If you use bottled gas and run out, just put this burner on its side on the hub under your pot.

Killing kitchen ants. I also have lizards in the kitchen and they eat the ants so there is no need to clean up. Just zap the ants.

Bending plastic. I bent a plastic dish washer so that I can use it to clean my espresso machine.

Lighting candles. If you put the torch on the lowest power you can use it to light old fashion candles.

Lighting fires. If you have a fireplace this burner can be used to start the fire, unless you're a traditionalist.

Torture. I have not used it yet, but if I catch an Al Queida terrorist it might come in handy.

NEW USES

Killing small flies. If you got those small flies hoovering over food scrap, the torch is great! A bit harder to kill normal house flies with the torch. You might run around accidentally putting fire to your house.

Cockroaches are also a good target if you just have one of them once in a while. If you have more of them, you really need to take other measures. Burnt bug does not smell pleasant.

Killing tree plants that continued to grow in the cracks in the cement of the driveway. Surprisingly efficient. Naturally it wont work on weeds, which are much more resilient.

Peeling hard boiled eggs. You know the situation when you steal some eggs from your neighbour's chicken, then they are too fresh to peel properly. I got this suggestion from Modernist Cuisine at Home.

TOTALLY MEANINGLESS USES:

Testing the amount of oil in a citrus peel.

Burning off foam from the dish washing liquid in the sink.

Manually lighten the gas stove after first letting out three seconds of gas. Makes for an impressive flame lasting a fraction of a second.

Scaring people in general. Like those 20 dull individuals that read this review and gave it negative feedback.

And finally, don't buy this torch as a present to a kid. Do not even use this product creatively anywhere near a kid.

I had concerns initially as this torch burner only fits on certain butane canisters which are hard to find anywhere locally via internet search. The torch burner itself is not expensive, but the shipping and handling of the butane canisters sold online are too high to be ignored for the overall cost. Luckily, I found out that Costco business centers carry them ($4.99 for 4 cans) as lots of restaurants are using the butane burners which use the same type of canisters. So, without a second thought, I placed the order immediately.

This is my very first torch burner, but I was too eager to try it before I read the instruction (printed on the back pages of the folded cardboard). And it just works perfectly. That tells how intuitive and easy to use it. I have been using it to sear meat prepared via Sous Vide and heat brown sugars on the custard of Creme Brulee. I am very happy with its performance and would highly recommend it.

I liked it because it has a longer nozzle than other product ,an air adjusting feature and made by Iwatani whichi is a solid

but its self ignition worn out upon heavy usage.

I used it for my job every day to torch roasted pork for 8 to 10 times a day about 20 total miniutes and its self

ignition somehow run out. I started to use it about 2 years ago and I'm using the 3rd one now. I probably will

continue this product until I find better torch tnan this but I say this product is not for heavy duty.

5 stars plus. I have had my Iwatani torch for over 3 months and use it daily and sometimes several times a day to finish sous vide dishes, to "barbeque" ribs after cooking low and slow in the oven, and for other general cooking use. I have tossed my other kitchen torches in the dustbin. The Iwatani is a solid heavy professional device, and has the output of a jet engine [no lie], with the flame easily 5 times larger than the other products being sold here, especially the wimpy creme brulee type of torches. As a result you can finish broil chicken or steak quickly with ease. It burns very clean and does not use fuel excessively just a superb design all around. In truth I use this now in lieu of my broiler the flame is that large and hot. I just bought a second one today, to have in reserve and use at a second location. I am not big on doing reviews and usually have a critical and careful eye when it comes to tools of all kinds but this truly will blow you away [although for your sake, I hope not literally!]. Get the 12 pack of gas canisters and stash them for use.

Because it's electric, it heats a little slower than a gas stove. The burners get hot, but the knobs do not (a problem others stated). It's easy to clean with no little cracks or crevices. If you're in need of a stove alternative, this double burner can't be beat in both price and performance.

The product is attractive enough, and heated up well enough, albeit somewhat slowly for as long as it worked.

However, the reason I'm giving it only one star is because the large burner simply stopped working after less than 60 days use and it was light use at that.

The double burner was not immersed at any time, it did not have liquids splashed on it, it was not abused in any way. It simply died!

For the price there is simply no excuse for the quality of the merchandise to be so poor.

I purchased this hot plate for use during a kitchen renovation, and it has performed beautifully. It may take a little longer to heat up, than a cooktop, but when you have nothing ... it's a lifesaver! 5-16-11: UPDATE!!! Unfortunately, this product has made me change my opinion ... the larger burner no longer works, and it was only used 3 or 4 times. I did not abuse the item, it just stopped working. Just my luck, that of course I have had it over 30 days, so I am unable to return it. After reading the other reviews, I see that I am not the only person who has had this experience. Very disappointing! My renovation is still not finished, and now I am back to having nothing. So don't waste your $36.00! The quality is just not there. Four stars just turned into 1.

I received this from the google shop and gave it as a gift to my daughter. When she opened the box the white face on the Hello Kitty had black marks on it and it looked like something that should have been at an outlet store. For a sandwich maker this one is pricey and you are paying extra for the face of the kitty. When I contacted Amazon about an exchange I got an e-mail from google shop that I could return it but I would have to pay shipping and then shipping again to get a new one and since I had free shipping on the original purchase they would be deducting that cost from my purchase. So I would owe them money to get a new one and in essence pay for shipping 3 times, when they are the ones who sent me a reject product in the first place. I could purchase the item again from another source after paying all that shipping. Needless to say I think that Amazon & Google Shop should stand behind their products. I will not be purchasing from them again.

I know you can't expect much from a sandwich press shaped like a cartoon cat but I'm incredibly satisfied with this product. So far my sandwiches have come out very well and there's something delightful about eating Hello Kitty's face. They do tend to flatten a bit while in the press and it can be a little hard to clean if you aren't careful (but not impossible) but these are minor issues when compared to the sum of it's parts. I am quite pleased.

I love Hello Kitty as much as the next person, but this product is just HORRIBLE. I dont understand why they couldnt make this a good panini press. First off, it makes the sandwiches wafer thin, and you cant use bread thats thicker or shaped differently than standard sliced. Secondly, it squeezes all the cheese out,(dont even TRY to add more than one slice btw) where it then cooks into a hard, un-scrapable, disgusting mess on the machine. The vague Hello Kitty head thats stamped onto the bread isnt worth the mess and totally unsatisfying sandwiches. Its going back to Target tomorrow in exchange for the Giada one.

My first time trying this, I made a yummy Pizza Grilled Sandwich & was amazed at how FAST it grilled, in 6 minutes it was nice & toasty! I was a bit skeptical at first if this grill would even work & heat but it sure does. & cleaning it up after your done is extremely easy.

My wife and daughter love Hello Kitty so I figured I would buy them this for their grilled cheese sandwiches. I was introduced to this miracle product by my uncle. Now, there are many many products out there that make outlandish claims to be able to clean miraculously. I will say this -when it comes to baked on carbonified foods (like the muck that winds up on a grill or on your stovetop burners) there is no product out there that I have ever seen come anywhere near close to what this product can do.

My stainless steel grills for my outside grill had 3 years of baked on carbon. I really was considering throwing them away and buying new ones. I couldn't get the carbon off of them. I tried wire brushes, steam, pressure washing, wet towels, dishwasher, etc nothing worked. I brought the grills in and put them on my sink. I sprayed this product on them on both sides. Let them sit for 20 minutes. Came back and used the green side of a kitchen sponge and the carbon wiped away without too much fuss.

I stood AMAZED!

I don't know about the toxicity of this product, I do recommend gloves because this stuff is doing something!

This is the last product I will ever buy to clean my grill and when it comes to my stove, it does equally amazing work.

My first bottle of this i received as a free sample. It's fantastic. I believe the reason it didn't survive in the resale stores was due to the fact that people did not read the directions. You apply this directly to DRY material you want removed the drier, the more backed on, even things left for long periods (like the ceiling inside your microwave) the better. I actually went hunting for this stuff again when my kid destroyed (or so i thought) my favorite pan by burning rice to the non-stick surface, two applications of this no scrubbing my pan is saved and better than ever.

I worked in a sign shop this stuff will take glue off anything, it will take grease off an engine, it will clean aluminum before powder coating like nothing you will ever find.

I cleaned an oven not cleaned in a year in a rental house and it sparkled in two applications. No fumes.

I love this stuff just remember NO WATER first or it wont work at all.

This product is expensive when compared with most household cleaners, but wow, it packs a punch. I got this at the recommendation of my cleaning lady, who was unable to clean the dried, stained oil burns on the heating element of my gas stove with the normal cleaners I had on hand. I got it and applied it to those stained oil burns, let it sit for 2 hours and it really did the job. This is one of the most powerful household cleaners you can get. Worth the money!

I have to say this product is difficult to find. I searched all the grocery stores in my area and even Walmart & Target and just could not find it anywhere. It may be some of those places were out of stock, but wow, I was stunned by how much trouble I had finding it. So it's worth putting in a good word of praise about Amazon. I'm glad I can find so many otherwise difficult to find products here, whether it is shipped and fulfilled by Amazon or Amazon store operators. I'm not in the habit of turning to Amazon when I can't find something at a nearby store. Retailers churn through their inventory list often and drop low volume items frequently, so it's nice to have this option.

We rent out our townhouse for part of the year. Our last tenant left the pots and pans with burned on grease and the cooktop had the burned on remnants of what I can only assume were many cooking disasters. Steel wool was no match for this mess so I went to Walmart for a solution and bought this purely on name value. Plain old Dawn works on plenty of things that are not related to cleaning dishes, etc. so I figured this might be the heavy gun needed. I sprayed this on the cooktop and forgot about it for over an hour. I couldn't believe how it dissolved the greasy dried gunk and left the cooktop glistening. Since then I have used this on the gas grill and other messes.

My only gripe with this product is that the local Walmart no longer stocks it and it is hard to find this elsewhere. I'd buy a vat of this if I could.
