This is a very heavy porcelain enameled griddle that is reversible (you can see both sides of it in the product photo). I gave it a very light and fast wash with some dish soap and warm water and then dried it thoroughly.
The first time I used the griddle I gave it a heavy spray of olive oil and let the grill get up to about 400 degrees. I have observed you will get very fast and thorough heat by applying direct burner heat under the griddle as well as turning on a different burner to medium temperature for ambient heat.
Made some fish on this and it came out wonderfully (I used the textured side for the fish and there was no fall apart of the fish as is typical when being cooked directly on the stainless grates on the grill itself). I really look forward to using the smooth side of this for making breakfast items, fajitas and other things that will cook great on the grill.
Clean up is a bit of a headache as you must take the heavy griddle off of the grill, bring it into your kitchen and clean it up. Arguably if the griddle is well seasoned you can just give it a quick wipe down with a cloth.
So why only 4 stars? Well, the griddle fits the grill so tightly that you actually can't put it at either end of the grill, due to the bolts on the back of the grill pushing the griddle forward just a bit so you can't close the lid of the grill. You need to scoot the griddle a couple of inches over to clear this bolt if you want to close the lid (which you probably do).
The other issue I have is that there is no good way to store this. It would have been nice to see something like a liner, etc, that could be used to encapsulate this so you could store it in the grill cart. If you just slide this in it will scratch up the finish on your grill, you don't want that!
All in all this is a reasonable value for money paid, it's a great addition to your Summit 600 series and makes even more flexible cooking on the grill possible. There are other griddles here at Amazon that should fit the S-400 line, but in fact only this one does.
Heavy griddle, excellent cooking. I replaced one of the two grates with it.

Some folks complain about the weight, but you need a griddle to be this massive to properly cook. As usual. Weber has built a product specific to the Summit grills that reflects the kind of cooking folks do on this product. For fish, veggies, and even the more unusual (ie. lobster) you can't beat thisRead Best Reviews of Weber 7404 Cast Iron Griddle Here
This is a nice griddle. I recommend seasoning it on the oven, not on the grill or it may cook your oil instead of seasoning the skillet. It works well, arrived with no defects, warps, etc. The only thing I would like to see is a slight slant to the oil drain. When you're cooking bacon, the skillet is flat: therefore, you have to manually pull the grease toward the drain not a huge deal but could be fixed.Want Weber 7404 Cast Iron Griddle Discount?
I love to grill veggies. I've tried 3-5 different grill baskets to hold veggies and each have their own problems can't shut the grill cover, impossible to clean, etc. A friend uses a griddle and suggested I give it a try.Overall I'm very pleased with it. I am giving it 4 stars because there is only 1 drain hole (at 1 end, in the center) and there is a raised edge around the entire surface. When I load this up with veggies soaked in a marinade the excess marinade can't easily run off and instead ends up being charred. I do need to re-level my grill so it's angled so the drain hole can act as a drain...apparently my grill is tilted to the left so the drain hole doesn't do its job.
One side of the griddle is flat, which is the side I always use. The other side has cross hatches which would be perfect for searing meats. I don't use it because it is a hassle to try and flip a hot griddle mid-grill session. One side for steaks, the other side for veggies
Yes, I should probably use less marinade but I'm too lazy to measure the 'just right' amount. Plus I like to have it run onto the 'flavor bars' or whatever Weber calls them as I trick myself into believing it makes the food taste better.
If you use dry rubs or use marinade sparingly, then I'm guessing you'll rate this a 5.
