Chefmate 2 Slice Sandwich Maker Grill Nonstick Plates Upright Storage

Chefmate 2 Slice Sandwich Maker Grill Nonstick Plates Upright StorageIn fact, I got it for $7.00 at Target. For that price it is extremely worth it.

Sure it is small and cannot accept very large or very thick bread but that's fine for me.

Sure it can be awkward to clean if there's a cheese spill but it is not really that hard (I just mop the cheese up when wet with a paper towel).

If all you want to do is make toasted sandwiches on "normal" sized bread then this is perfect and it seems to be sold very cheap at least at Target but not so cheap on Amazon.com.

I bought this item as a door buster on Black Friday for less than the above reviewers therefore I wasn't expecting much, but it works and we're happy.

It will handle any kind of bread as long as you don't mind squished bread, which we don't. For standard sized bread, we cut the bread into quarters, first down the middle and then diagonal on each half. The cheese does leak out this way, so the idea of sticking the bread in the middle may be best. As one reviewer states, you can always purchase the right size bread too.

We have a round sandwich maker too and the black teflon surface quickly peeled off. This seems to have a stronger surface.

The cheese does get into those little grooves. I think we're going to leave it there and just wipe out the part where the sandwich sits. It doesn't seem difficult to wipe out. I'd use an old toothbrush on those grooves.

It looks like all of the white sandwich makers are made by the same company and just relabeled with a name brand. These sandwich makers seem a bit shallow, but that's probably necessary for toasting.

Another benefit is that it saves on on butter. When I try grilling on the stove top, I load the pan with butter to prevent sticking. That's unnecessary with this product.

I also bought this cheap at Target, and it is probably one of the most useful and most used kitchen appliances I own. Nothing takes any longer than five minutes to grill in it, and in most cases that's even too long. The other reviewers say it won't handle large bread slices, but that's not true. I don't know if it's deliberate design or happy convenience, but just place sandwiches made with wide bread slices in the middle instead of loading up two puny sandwiches, and grill as normal. It even comes out with a perforation down the middle to make it easier to cut in half.

Someone else mentioned a giant cheese mess, which did happen to me once, but that was because I was using processed cheese which is basically oil, so it runs like water at those temperatures. The few times I had a little bit of real cheese sticking out the sides, it stayed in a clump that slid right off the grill with the sandwich when removed leaving no mess behind. So just use real cheese, which is better anyway.

It also handles stacked sandwiches pretty well too. I made some really stuffed tuna melts with it, we're taking about half a can (before mayo and fixins) on each sandwich, and they came out clean without leaking or dripping cheese. The bread seemed to grill up a little better too.

So yeah, for my less than ten bucks this definitely rates five stars easy.

I bought this sandwich maker as a little piece of nostalgiain renemberance of my time abroad in college. We had one of these sandwich makers and practically lived off of ketchup and cheese sandwiches. Sounds odd I know, but when made in one of these sandwich presses they're actually kinda tasty. Anyhow I've been nothing but pleased with this little gadget. It's nothing fancy, but I'll be darned if it doesn't make the tastiest grilled cheese everand without any butter or oil to boot!

I got this for those days when the sandstorms are unbearable and I don't feel like walking to the chow hall for the same thing I ate yesterday..It came quick, but the only problem is that it came with a broken handle and pieces just keep breaking off, but I dont wanna go through the hassle of sending it back so I think I can work around that issue. It just kinda sucks that it cost 30 bucks for this on amazon (after shipping) to come with a broken handle, when all the other reviewers spent 7 at target! O well, is what it is!
