Weber 6432 Silicone Basting Brush

Weber 6432 Silicone Basting BrushFolks, this is a heavy brush and it is a good brush! I, like many others have use either a nylon or plastic-ish sort of brushes for years and was just a bit leery of "silicone." My goodness, resistance to change is certainly a sign of getting older I suppose, but it is also a big time impediment when it comes to doing things better and easier. This basting brush is oh so much better than the ones I was using before...both on the grill and in the oven.

This is a very reasonably priced well built tool and it is big and heavy. I've no doubt that if the circumstances were right, you could use it as some sort of defensive weapon. But of course that is not what you buy it for. You buy it to slather stuff on other stuff so that it will taste better when you eat it. This brush more than fulfills its calling in life. It allows a smooth flow and allows you to regulate the amount of what ever it is you are smearing on your food as you cook. As a big time plus for me, you can put this thing in the dishwasher. That may not seem like much, but cleaning one of the old type basting brushes could be a real pain and a bit time consuming...they certainly were not built for dishwashers, which since I am the official dishwasher in our household, is quite at the top of my list of things I want and this has made my life much easier.

I like Weber products; buy them when ever they are available, and I certainly have not been unhappy with this purchase. Unless I do something real stupid, which does happen now and again, this brush should last me for years! I may quite well put this item in my will.

Grilling tip for you: I bought this as a replacement brush for the one I have had used for a couple of years. I found that if you become distracted and lay the basting brush...any basting brush, over the open flames of a grill and leave it there, it will burn. This causes a horrid mess and the smell is not pleasing. When grilling, you got to keep your head in the game and let others yell at the dogs.

I never expected a heavy, stainless-steel handled basting brush like this for the reasonable price: Weber does it again!

If you are looking for a lightweight silicone brush, however, this is NOT it. This is heavy and should last a lifetime and for that, I am very, very appreciative.

How could I possibly be so excited about a basting brush??! I imagine all of the other reviewers before me scratched their head and preceded to type out little loving haikus describing their adoration. If you have dealt with basting brushes from your local 'supermarket' before then you will understand why we love this product. Many a times, I try to clean under warm/hot water the sticky marinade that has become forever embedded in the nylon bristles of other brushes. Forget about egg washing anything ever again.... you are always left with a myriad of scents no matter how many times you wash, rinse and repeat. Then you must throw the cheap basting brush into the dishwasher. What remains is a gnarly burnt bristle mess which has rendered that 4 dollar baster unusable. RIP nylon brush.

Now onto this beauty: It is BIG, slightly heavy and long (about 12 inches it seems; didn't measure)! The handle is SOLID stainless steel in a beautiful matte finish. Whatever you have known of other basters it completely the opposite of this one. It isn't light, the handle isn't plastic and the bristles aren't made of nylon. I almost forgot to mention: It is dishwasher safe!! Mine runs through and comes out like the day it was purchased. FINALLY!

I was able to egg wash some Easter cookies without blinking. I also brushed a marinade that was very herb heavy on pork souvlakis. The usual herb mix would have been stuck between nylon bristles; with the silicone this did not occur (AMEN!). This was purchased for my husband and his balcony grilling, but I have decided to keep it in my kitchen crock. The same day he basted the same marinade on the aforementioned souvlakis while grilling outside. He came back raving because for once the handle was long enough to reach the meat in the back and finally, he didn't burn the basting brush.

Highly recommend to anyone that is in need of a modern basting brush that can actually handle kitchen/outside grilling tasks. I do agree that weber should add a nice hole/metal loop to the top for hanging while barbecuing. If it had the loop, I would have never taken possession and put it into my crock. Buy it not just for barbecuing, but also for your kitchen. It blends perfectly in my stainless steel appliance kitchen.

I was uncertain about a silicone basting brush, but this works well. The effect of the bristles is a little different from what you'd get with a plastic or nylon brush, but it does a good job of spreading the sauce and juices around on the meat (which is what it's meant to do after all). It is huge, however, as you might expect for a grilling basting brush meant to be used over high heat. The length is also useful for basting within the oven. My wife doesn't like it because she thinks it is too large to fit in our utensil canister, and because it's a bit too tall to fit upright in the silverware basket of our dishwasher. I lay it down flat, and it cleans just fine, and doesn't retain that oily residue as the old nylon brush did. It's a manly tool for manly men, and I use it constantly. Recommended.
