This grill is terrible for hamburgers. I returned it and purchased the Cuisinart model at Costco for $53 with a $15 instant rebate. Here is the link Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler

The reason I bought this grill was to cook hamburgers and maybe steaks. There are a few flaws with the design. First, the fat does not flow to the drip tray, instead it sits in the bottom and sizzles, splattering it everywhere. The second problem is when you open the lid, all of the juices from the top run down the plate and drip behind the machine. In the end, there was a mess everywhere and my house filled with smoke(due to the sizzling of the fat that should have dripped in the tray), setting off my smoke detectors.

So happy plates can be removed for cleaning and the adjustable top fits evenly on top of sandwich for an even grilling.
