A friend recommended a Vornado, and I seriously considered one, but they are all really expensive. The models I looked at were the 630 and 733. I decided to give this Lasko a try, given that the stated capabilities are about the same (circulating air up to 70+ feet away), but the price is lower. It also has a safety shut-off fuse integrated into the plug, push button controls, a seven hour timer, and a remote, all of which the Vornados lack.This fan does circulate air pretty well in a medium sized room. It reaches up to a second-floor loft even on Low, although I find Medium is more effective. On High, the fan sounds a bit loud. The first time you turn it on after unplugging it, it will default to the highest fan speed, but it will conveniently remember your last setting if you leave it plugged-in. Overall, I'm very pleased with this fan.
I wanted to know some technical information when I was looking into these fans, so if you're interested here is what I learned:
The Vornado 630 is a 9.38" diameter fan and on High is rated at 331 CFM (cubic feet per minute), and as of this writing it costs 30% more than the Lasko on Amazon. The Vornado 733 is a 12" diameter fan that is rated at 583 CFM on High. The 733 has a fixed plastic frame that basically allows it to point in just three fixed positions. As of this writing it's twice as expensive as this Lasko on Amazon. It does have the virtue of being made in USA, though, whereas both the Vornado 630 and Lasko are made in China. By comparison, the Lasko 3637 is a 10" diameter fan that is rated at 787 CFM on High. The Lasko also happens to use about 5% less electricity than the Vornado 733 on High and is slightly more efficient (CFM per Watt) than either Vornado. All specs are directly from the respective manufacturers.
Also, I should note that the the description on this Amazon product page and the Lasko website refer to a removable front grill on this fan, which led me to believe that the grill would come off easily with the removal of a couple of clips, like on the Vornados. Not so. The grill is removable for cleaning, but it requires the removal of 7 recessed screws.
Finally, the remote is IR and requires direct line of sight, but it works at great enough distance that I can control the fan--positioned down in the living room--from up in the loft, which I really appreciate. It appears to be a standard Lasko remote that will probably operate any Lasko fan. As noted on the Amazon product page, the remote uses two AAA batteries that are not included.

I bought it to circulate hot air from my living room wood burning stove. However, being in the living room, I hoped it would have been quieter. Even on low, it is too loud for the living room, unless you have the stereo/TV turned up loud. Originally, I had the fan mounted to the ceiling. Then I moved it to the floor behind the wood stove trying to shield the sound. That's were it stays. Not convenient but better than nothing.Apart from the noise, I can report the fan appears to be well built with a nice design. If noise is not an issue, I can certainly recommend this fan it you want to really move some air. Low is pretty strong and high is, well, very high. The remote works as advertised, but I wish it had a longer timer option; 4 hours is tops.
