I just received this sandwich maker as a birthday gift. I was really excited to use it, probably due to childhood nostalgia. When we closed the lid on the first set of sandwiches, the bottom handle snapped off, rather than the latch engaging! Maybe the bread we used was too thick, but the instruction manual didn't say anything about it. It was just regular sandwich bread, cheese, and some chicken salad (like tuna, but with just chicken). This product might work if you want some thin bread with only one slice of cheese, but forget anything fancy! The sandwich maker I had growing up would have handled this sandwich easily.
I got this as a gift. In my dorm we aren't allowed to have traditional toasters as they are a fire hazard but sandwich makers are allowed. I use this press to toast bread and english muffins, I've never tried to make a sandwich with it. It works pretty well but I wish the plates were removable.
