Charcoal Companion Maple, Cherry and Apple Wood Chips Sampler Pack

I bought this as an alternative to the easily accessible mequite and hickory chips. I am stationed in a pretty remote location and other choices are just not around. I though this would be a good sampler to get me started. I like having three to choose from. Unfortunately the amount of each sample is not enough to get a good long smoke. Also, the three chips all smell the same. They have an Elmer's glue aroma while in the box, which doesn't make me hopeful when using them. I've asked others to smell, and they agree. I'm not sure if thats a what these chips are supposed to smell like. Used the apple wood so far, and didn't add much to my pork. This would be a good choice for the novice or someone who used to eat paste as a kid.

We ordered this sample pack to try out our new smoker and find out what wood chips we like. The only thing we found us that the package says to soak the chips for a time, make sure to read the manual on your smoker before you do this. We have a set smoker and you are not supposed to soak the chips first. This is a very good product and we were happy with it.

I must say my favorite has been the apple wood chips! I use a charcoal kettle grill,soaked chips in water for about 15 minutes and dropped them on my ready to use coals. I put salmon and some marinated vegetables on the grill and closed the lid! They came out SO awesome! Enjoy!
